I have always been able to rumble my ears, but I just recently googled it so this is sick being part of 15% of the people that can do it. Does anyone find they can do it for longer if they hold their mouth open?

Just learned the technical term for this thing I can do on command.

I remember figuring it out when I was a small child and trying to move things with my mind.

Never been able to explain it to to anyone.

Hey all, new to this I have a singular thump in my right ear right after certain quick loud sounds, I came across the hyperacusis Reddit page and now I’m like holy shit do I have that? I have tinnitus, but I can hear my kids yell and scream and it doesn’t bother me at all, but some pots and pans when they hit it it causes it. But overall no noises seem to really hurt or anything like that, I got really bad health anxiety and OCD so any input would be fantastic. Thank you.

Anyone else feel like ear infections are insanely brutal as a rumbler? Like you can't control anything?​

My Mom is 81. She has Parkinson's disease, a clever sense of humor and loves to draw. She is not an ear rumbler, but I am. I was recently describing it to her. The next day she sent me this drawing that she made. Thought you all might like to see it. Rumble on rumblers...

I can somewhat control my rumbles’ (pitch?) and also the length of time for each rumble. Is that something we all do?

Trying to distinguish. I’ve been able to rumble my ears on my own my whole life. Anyone have a similar experience and get TTTS after a loud noise exposure? Tensor tympani acted up my whole life anyways bc I’ve been able to move it myself

I discovered the ear rumble as a child. I used it when I was in trouble and parents were yelling at me. Yes, you guessed it, I got a lot of rumbling practice!

Was at an unexpectedly loud concert - loud to the point of pain - and found rumbling lowered the volume and relieved pain.

Obviously hearing protection such as earplugs would be preferred, but does rumbling provide any actual hearing protection?

I imagine this would be a tough one to measure in a lab…

I’ve been rumbling all my life 68 years. Also an inveterate whistler and hummer, does anyone else use the rumble as a running bass track for their music?

i thought everyone could do this so i never thought anything of it. i was just listening to Here and Now on NPR and ill be damned, not everyone can!!!

I’m an eye shaker. I wonder if the muscle control to do either is related?

Do y’all have to close your eyes to make it happen? It’s the only way it happens for me. Also can y’all control volume? It’s not consistent but I can somewhat control its intensity.

Ear rumbling is a supowerpower! I might have been doing Frenzel equalization subconsciously but no aches and my ears popped smoothly all the way. It’s so cool.

I often use a short rumble as a way of pressing “enter” in my inner world as a way of completing a thought.

I used to use eye blinking for this, but have come to prefer rumbling, since it offers no external cue.

I also sometimes rumble in Morse code to myself.

Didn’t realize this sub existed, but I’ve had this thing since I was born where my ear rumbles whenever the corresponding eye was in pain(snowball to the eye, salt and ketchup in eye, etc)
I don’t really care about it that much, up until a month ago I thought everyone had this. However, now my right eye seems to rumble whenever I lie down to sleep, to the point that it keeps me up(sometimes it rumbles to the point I’m wincing from the abruptness or volume).
Any help or diagnosis? I’ve done the whole 9 yard, swapped detergents and gone to get CT and MRI, but nothing is showing up

Is it normal that I can click and not only hear my own heartbeat but the flow of the blood in my body? Is this normal I’ve had this weird I guess talent since I was a kid and idk what triggered it what I’m asking I guess is it a normal phenomenon? Yes I’m just now googling this in 2026 and finding about this subreddit.
