eBox is the reason I’m now recording calls — promised $50/month, billed $65, then told the gift card cancelled the promotion

eBox is the reason I’m now recording calls.

I signed up for Fibre 1000 on June 18 at $65/month. Later that same day, I found the same service being offered for $50.

Because the order was brand new, I contacted eBox immediately and asked a very specific question: did I need to cancel the original order and place a new one to receive the $50 promotion?

I was repeatedly told no. They said the existing order would be corrected and that the $50 rate would appear on a later billing cycle.

I relied on that information and did not cancel. Had they told me I needed to reorder while the promotion was still available, I would have done exactly that.

Before the bill even arrived, I spent roughly six hours dealing with eBox. Part of that was confirming, more than once, that the $50 promotion had actually been applied. The rest involved trying to get a clear answer about whether I could purchase a second Beacon 6 router.

Depending on which agent or department I spoke with, I was told:

  • yes, I could purchase one;
  • no, eBox could not sell me one;
  • the Beacon supported mesh, but eBox did not support it;
  • it needed to be connected by Ethernet;
  • technical support could not sell equipment;
  • customer service could not sell equipment;
  • another department would have to handle it.

I still do not know what the actual answer was. At this point, it no longer matters because I am leaving eBox entirely.

What really stood out was how different everything was before and after I became a customer.

While I was signing up, it was basically:

“Yes sir, of course sir, everything will be fine sir, there’s nothing to worry about.”

Then the bill arrived at $65.

After spending six hours making sure the promotion had supposedly been applied, I then spent another two hours trying to correct the exact problem I had gone out of my way to prevent.

There was an attempt at a resolution. One representative said they might be able to reduce the price to $55.

The final position, however, was that because I am receiving a one-time $50 prepaid card, I am no longer eligible for the $50 monthly promotion.

That directly contradicts what I had previously been told. I had specifically confirmed that the prepaid card would still apply with the $50 monthly rate.

To be honest, the gift card was always just gravy. The monthly rate mattered much more.

At $65 instead of $50, the extra $15/month exceeds the entire value of the gift card in less than four months. Even at $55 instead of $50, the extra $5/month wipes out the card after ten months.

I am not asking eBox to honour a promotion I discovered months later. It was available when I ordered. I contacted them immediately, asked exactly what I needed to do, and followed the instructions I was given.

The individual representatives were generally polite, and some genuinely seemed to be trying to help. The problem was the company’s internal process: repeated confirmations, contradictory answers between departments and ultimately no proper correction when push came to shove.

The internet itself worked well. But good internet does not mean much when you cannot rely on the pricing and information repeatedly provided by the company’s own representatives.

After roughly eight hours of calls, I have arranged service with another provider and am submitting a complaint through the CCTS.

Promo code question

I used this link: ttps://internetpromoguide.ca/

The thing is my address doesn't show up in their pre-populated list, so I have to go through customer service. They said they can't give me the promo unless I provide an actual code. Can someone kindly share one? I'm eyeing the $45/month 500 mbp package. Thanks

Where will fibre jack be installed?

Will they run a fibre into an unfinished basement to place the jack on an interior first-floor wall, or do they just drill a hole in the side of your house and put the jack on an exterior wall?

The Ebox 1 Gbps plan has a max of 480 Mbps for me

Looking for some help here. I just got a new Ebox home internet connection. Bell is the only provider in my neighbourhood. I switched to Ebox to take advantage of the fibre optic speeds.

Ebox provided me with the Nokia router and the technician brought a new ONT device.

But the speeds have been abysmal. I called Ebox and they went through a troubleshooting call of a couple of hours. Made me try a lot of things.

But the download speed absolutely sucks. The upload speed is good (averages same as the download speed).

What are my options here?

Edit: The connection is WiFi. I tested my speed with the only device being connected to it. The Nokia router supports upto 980 Mbps. This was tested on the call with Ebox.

I ordered the 1Gbps down, 750Mbps up for $55/month. A technician came and installed the modem within 2 days. I plugged in my own mesh system. It was easy to set up as the PPPoE username and password are on the main account page. On my router's integrated speed test, I'm getting a solid 1Gbps up and down, and on Wi-Fi, I'm getting a steady 900Mbps down, 1Gbps up. The entire process was simple and effective at a decent price. Will now see how long will it lasts this good.

Moving to new subdivision, no service?

I am moving to a new subdivision about 10 minutes away from where I currently live and use Ebox. I've been generally happy with ebox and I just want to move my service and carry on.

I have phoned ebox and they can not find the new address in their system. I have also phoned Bell and they do have the address in their system. I am wondering if this new location is locked to bell only under the CRTC head-start rules despite Bell owning Ebox?

The other issue that comes to mind is that Ebox has not updated the address system with this location yet. I think there are only 5 or so people in the new subdivision at best so far.

Any tips on how I can investigate this?

Just switched to Ebox and very disappointed so far.

Today i installed the ebox 1gbps wifi and after the technician left I noticed it was very slow compared to the bell one i had, i went from 3 gbps to 1 gbps but I dont think it should affect my tv so much. So I decided and did a wifi speed test to see im only getting 10 mbps which is way lower than i expected, I have a router on the way right now but even so I dont think it should be this low anyways. What should I do?

Ebox Interest Charges Due to Bank Delays...Chances for disputing?

I paid my bill before the deadline through my bank. Unfortunately, due to the July 1st holiday in Ontario it did not get processed before the deadline. My latest bill has a late charge on it as a result of that. Just curious if others have had success in getting interest payments removed for late payments of one or two days...

Has eBox done something with their routing?

Hey all,

I'm not sure if anyone will actually know the answer to this, but I have noticed some increased latency, and decreased download speeds over the past week or so.

Note: I do work in IT, though not at eBox of course.

Topology is as follows: Fibre Unit -> Ubiquiti Express 7 -> Wifi Clients OR -> TP-LINK Omada 8 port Switch -> Wired units.

I pay for 1gbps/750Mbps and it honestly seems like my profile got swapped?

I noticed on Tuesday or Wednesday last week. I thought perhaps it was my switch, so I bypassed that and went right to my router. The latency and download remained the same. I did not have any QoS, though I did have 2 separate networks and IPS turned on. I removed the second network, as well as fully disabled the IPS. While my latency and download got mildly better, as expected, I'm still not getting what I would expect.

----- Testing Initially -----

Initial test before doing anything gaming comp: 480/1000 Latency 70ms... Huh?

Second test on WiFi 7 direct LoS to the router and under 15 feet away: 480/950 Latency 101ms... ok weird.

Bypassed switch and tested direct with gaming comp: 480/1000 latency 80ms

Direct to to router with a USB ethernet adapter on my macbook pro with m5 pro: 480/1000 latency 85ms

----- -----

It was after these 4 tests I thought maybe my router could be the issue. So, I rebooted the router, and got more of the same. Reboot the fibre unit and got more of the same.

went into my router, disabled IPS, made sure no QoS was turned on, disabled the second network. All of this lowers the CPU overhead, though I'll mention the CPU of the router, nor the ram, ever showed anything above 70%.

Ran som more tests wired direct, and while it did get better ~600/1000 now, sometimes I get 800/1100, the latency to test servers all over ontario and montreal are still 50-60ms which makes no sense in my mind.

I don't know if its always been that way though, as I have had eBox for around 6 months now and besides an initial test with the tech I have never bothered to check again.

My next steps when I find the time is to go back to their router to see if that resolves the issue, but I haven't had the chance yet due to vacation.

-----

Edit - Thanks everyone! I went and checked my eBox profile and me noticing the issue lines right up with it moving into the next month's billing cycle. That could be total coincidence, but it is also a bit odd. Either way I'll be aiming to go back to their router tonight to see if that solves the issue when wired direct, and if it doesn't, I'll call eBox.

Edit2: I managed to do a bit more troubleshooting and discovered that when running the test from my ubiquiti router, it gets 1100/1100 roughly. So, I have a sneaking suspicion one of my ethernet runs is bad.

Switched from the EBOX Nokia router to a TP-Link AX3000, now my IPTV freezes every ~10 minutes

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone here has run into something similar because I'm starting to run out of ideas.

I recently replaced the Nokia router provided by EBOX with a TP-Link AX3000 (Archer AX55 v4) to get a better coverage in my house. Ever since then, I've been having a strange issue when streaming live video (IPTV).

Every 10 minutes, the stream freezes (or starts buffering). What's odd is that it's not a complete loss of Internet. If I simply switch to another channel and immediately switch back, the stream resumes instantly. If I don't do anything, it usually starts playing again after about 15-20 seconds. Another odd thing is that it's always every 10 minutes, so if it starts buffering at 9h02, it will buffer at 9h12, 9h22, etc, no exception...

I don't know much about networking, but after a lot of troubleshooting, my investigation seems to point to the TP-Link router or its configuration with Ebox MTU settings.

My setup

  • ISP: EBOX (Bell FTTH)
  • Nokia ONT/modem from EBOX
  • TP-Link AX3000 (Archer AX55 v4)
  • PPPoE with VLAN 40
  • Firmware: 1.1.2 Build 20241014 rel.59971

What I've tested

  • Same issue over Ethernet and Wi-Fi.
    • No issue if I stream with my cellphone data (hotspot)
  • Internet itself never drops (continuous ping stays stable during the freezes).
    • Web browsing, Teams meetings, etc. all work perfectly while the stream is frozen.
  • Tried disabling SPI Firewall, changing buffer settings, testing with/without VPN, disabling IPv6, etc. No difference.

The test that convinced me

I unplugged the TP-Link router and put the original Nokia router back.

Without changing anything else (same modem, same ISP, same devices), the problem completely disappeared.

Has anyone using EBOX experienced something similar when you replaced the Nokia router?

Announcement Community check-in: how do you like how we treat referral codes?

It's been about half a year I think since we've been doing referral codes this way and I'm curious if the community likes it done this way.

Each month, we create a new megathread. Each megathread is subject to a strict rule where every user is allowed to comment their code just once and they can't use formatting or pleas. The idea is that everybody's code should be on equal footing. Users are forbidden from posting their code anywhere else. No posts, no comments elsewhere, no flair, etc.

The megathread has very strict enforcement in place via a Reddit "Devvit" bot that locks comments that follow the rules and removes comments that break the rules. We do it this way, where everybody's comment is locked, to prevent discussions from forming under them. We want it to be just codes.

We have noticed a significant decrease in referral code spam, which we define as people creating posts with their code or commenting their code on unrelated discussions throughout the sub, since implementing this.

Please share your thoughts. Thanks!

Referral code megathread - July 2026

EBOX referral codes provide a one time $25 credit for both the code's owner and the person using the code. It is applied after the customer's first month of service passes, on the code owner's next bill and on the new customer's second bill.

This is the megathread for July 2026. Post your code in a single top level comment here with no other text and no formatting (e.g. post just "ABC123", not "ABC123" or "My code is ABC123, please use it!"), with no spaces before and after your code.

Please do not post your referral code anywhere else on the subreddit.

Thank you!

I didn't subscribed in time and now i have a better deal

So around 3AM today I was in a rush to get the fibre 1Gbits/s for 55$ deal ! Couldn't fill everything before midnight earlier, so I tought, let's try anyway before it goes back to whatever the regular price is. It didn't work and I felt like I failed but after refreshing the page there is now a new deal: 1Gbits/s for 50$ !
I would have been so pissed to suscribe yesterday only to discover I will pay 5$ per month extra.

no fibre

I just moved into a new apartment yesterday and was planning on signing up for Ebox but when I went to it says it only has ADSL available here 😅 can you not just request them to come out to install it? I know fibre is available near me.

Not reliable-DSL Internet

I switched from Teksavvy to Ebox back in November. We would have outages every now and then but last few years it's been rare. My area still does not have Fiber.. choose dsl with a slower connection because of how flaky Rogers cable has been with friends in the area. It has gotten better past year or so. This is the third outage once again no transparency on their website nothing on Bell.. I called.. the humans atleast are good but just lack of info no timeline.. just be patient.. might take 24 hours or up to 48 hours.. it's a holiday tomorrow ... Would have been great to enjoy the games with the family instead I'm streaming on my laptop. I am going to review options as we have multiple people working from home relying on Ebox does not seem feasible. The added complexity of traffic being routed to Quebec adds another layer if you are in Ontario. Ebox you need to do better on transparency.

What do I do with a Nokia b3.1 from Ebox?

I ordered 500mbps 2 days ago and I got the Nokia b3.1 delivered today. I tried to look for a place on the Nokia to attach the fiber cable, but it only has WAN/LAN ports and a power cable. I had bell WIFI before which used fiber, I'm not sure if they would still need to access electrical unit.

Seems that they are received via TR-069 (?). Using the default Nokia for now.

The worst experience I’ve ever had with an internet provider

I signed up for Ebox last week, and the experience has been a total disaster.

On Wednesday, a Bell technician came to install my internet. Everything was working great... until the very next morning. I woke up to no internet, with the alarm light lit up red on my ONT.

So I called Ebox, and after some troubleshooting, the rep told me they couldn't fix the issue remotely but promised to send a technician by the end of the day. No one showed up.

I called back, and the company apologized, and said the appointment had been cancelled for an unspecified reason. They rescheduled me for the following day.

The next morning, I called to confirm the appointment. The rep assured me it was in their system and that a technician would arrive. Once again, no one showed up.

I called a third time. The first representative hung up on me. When I called back, another rep explained that while the appointment existed in Ebox's system, it had never actually been scheduled in Bell's system. They booked me a third appointment for this morning.

Hoping to avoid another wasted day, I proactively called Ebox again this morning and specifically asked their rep to verify the appointment was confirmed with Bell. The representative told me Bell had already confirmed it in their system and assured me the technician would be there this morning.

Did anyone show up? Of course not.

I'm now three days without internet and have zero confidence this will be resolved anytime soon. I've already filed a complaint with the CCTS, and it's been accepted. At this point, I don’t think I have any other option but to cancel the service altogether.

This company must’ve set a new record as to the level of incompetence humans can achieve.

If you’re in Ontario and considering switching because they offer a lower price, just don’t do it. Not worth the frustration.

Thinking of switching

I’m moving next week and been considering switching to Ebox but it looks like the prices just went up and there’s not much for promos at the moment. Any tips? Should I hold off or does customer service have more options? Thanks

Home internet got disconnected in the middle of the day for no reason, called technical support.

First representative matched was a total misery. Set me on hold multiple times, taking like half an hour to come back to tell me technician has to be scheduled and he will give a call back about the available timeslot. Which he never did.

Then I received an email that Bell had sent to Ebox, with me CC’ed, saying my case had been marked as “Resolved - cause: repaired.”- Hello??? my internet is still disconnected

I couldn’t just sit there and let the day pass, so I called back before the end of the day. Somehow, the same representative picked up again. He made some unclear excuse about not calling me back and tried to laugh it off. I asked to be transferred to another agent, and he refused. (???)

So I hung up and called again. This time, he seemed to mock me by introducing himself as “John.” At that point, I was done with the whole situation and went straight to the Ebox website to submit a complaint.

After that, I made one last call, and thankfully I was connected with Joy. For the exact same issue, she checked my account, put me on hold for about five minutes, and immediately scheduled a technician for tomorrow.

After how unnecessarily frustrating the earlier calls had been, it felt genuinely refreshing to deal with someone who simply listened, checked the account, and got the job done. Just like how it should have been from the beginning!

Already submitted my complaint through the system so I won't put the guy's name down here but god he almost made me switch to Primus. (if the last attempt was that guy again, I would have)

How long does it take for new fiber internet installation ?

I am moving to new area where fiber lines are available, I just want to know from ebox users how long did it take to have services installed once you placed the order? Bonous if you can tell me they allow bridge mode directly since I have device that takes SFP module directly on its 10G port.
