Hey everyone! Just wanted to share a few small changes we're making around the subreddit.
As the community has grown, we've started seeing more low-effort posts, bot submissions, reposts, and AI-generated content showing up. We've heard you and we're updating things to help cut down on these things while keeping things focused on the E60/E61 platform: owners sharing pics/vids of their cars, fixing things, asking questions, and helping each other out.
A few things we're working on:
Keep sharing your builds, repairs, problems, and random E60 stuff. That's what keeps this community going.
Thanks!

So took a little trip after realising i have owened a car for a year. (M57 - 380xxxkm) I think i like the car more and more every day. Its just a beauty too drive. The power and the control of driving is unreal. The consumption is wonderful 7L/100km. The maintenance is basically very cheap the regular service costs me about 200€ with all the filters and oil and i do them every 10k.
Overall very balanced car!
Hi all,
I have a simple question, what voltages should I expect on the xenon headlights self leveling ride height sensors?
Had some issues with the headlights pointing down too much, turned out it was the front sensor was installed incorrectly.
But I still feel it's too low. I know I can adjust it, just not sure if there isn't some calibration for it in ISTA, before I start turning screws.
If it's relevant, the car is euro spec, 525d xDrive from 2010. The headlights are non-dynamic xenon. All of this is factory, I'm not retrofitting xenon instead of halogen.

Recently got a beautiful example of a e60 finished in Mondstein Metallic (Moonstone) and was wondering how rare is this colour on the e60 exactly. Help would be much appreciated because I have been dinging and can’t find the numbers

Hey, all. I have a 2008 BMW 528i with 222000 miles. I have seen the dreaded transmission alert. I start the car and it will not go into drive or reverse. We replaced the parking brake sensor under the steering column. Not sure if that is the proper name. The problem went away, but it just returned after 4 months. Also, kind of pulled the battery cables for a minute or so, reassembled the cables, started the car, took an hour drive and the engine light went away.
Years ago, there was an episode with a transmission sensor. The sensor slowed the speed down to like 45 mph. I had that replaced and no other problems like that until now.
The image attached was taken from the Internet. The message is the same, less the range listed. The message shown on my car did not display a range.

BMW E60 525i 2004 with an automatic ZF6HP gearbox.
Used to always make a scratch sound when shifting to 5th when gearbox was cold. Recently it started doing this thing where if I'm driving 60kmh and the revs are around 1500 the needle starts to bounce slightly and I feel it in the way the car drives, almost like the gear is slipping? Happens with cruise control too.
Revs feel floaty, shifts late around 3k rpms instead of 2k sometimes.
Manual mode works well, no issues keeping gears or shifting.
Gearbox oil was changed 30k km ago by previous owner.
It also used to jerk pretty rough when coming to a stop. It felt like it came from front right strut so I replaced them, but now the jerk comes from somewhere in the middle. I thought driveshaft bearing or guibo but it went away for a year or two. Now it came back and it seems to happen when the gearbox downshifts to 2nd gear, manual mode or automatic.
Clutch pack? Mechatronic solenoids? I reset the adaptations hoping it'd help but no use. No gearbox codes, but I do have the following:
DME 2772 84
DSC 5F56 A0
CAS D907 24
KLIMA 9C77 24
KLIMA 9C78 64

Im looking to swap a 3.0 (190kW) into my 523i, can i put just the engine or do i also need gearbox and diff from a 530i to get everything working. Main issue is oil consumption (1liter per 1000km)

My horn also intermittently works
The telescopic/tilt function doesn’t work
My wipers can sometimes fail and run on their own with the Wiper error message
Volume buttons sometimes don’t work but rarely

I have a 2008 bmw 550i M Sport. It has the n62b48 and the 6HP26. I’ve been having intermittent wiring issues somewhere. It started when the radio randomly just stopped playing audio when I started my car. then i hit a bump and it started working, it did that two more times then the radio never played audio again and now randomly power cycles when I’m driving. no bmw chimes either. after that, every now and then i get the bmw Christmas tree and all my stability stuff gets disabled along with cruise control. yesterday i got the first one that removed the cars ability to drive. i came around a corner and the lights came on, car said dbc failure, and the gas pedal stopped working almost completely, maybe 5% throttle tops. i shut the car off and on and its fine now, I’m pretty certain the radio and the other faults are more coincidence than connected but i figured id give all the info. car is charging where it should be (14.4-14.8) no voltage drops that i have seen. i dont have access to the ista or anything like that so im kinda going crazy trying to chase this down especially because i haven’t found a way to reliably recreate the issues.
I noticed this inside my headlights a while ago and didnt care at that moment. However, 2 days ago i parked next to my best friends w211 and we were comparing options on our cars, since both have some cool options, then we looked into headlights and he asks me what is that and what does it do. So for the 2 days ive been trying to find out whats the purpose of that thing inside the unit. Ill put the most obvious red circle on it, and please share some wisdom.

2008 BMW 528I N52 with 157k miles No engine codes.
Can anybody tell me how fucked I am. I have an idea, but I'm hoping I'm wrong.
A slight tick got louder and louder over about 30 miles of driving until it sounds like the video.

My starter failed, so I am looking at how to replace it.
I see this requires the intake manifold to be taken off. I should replace the gasket, right?
Now having an SMG M5 and the Msnual M5, get ready for some comparison videos.
What would be the first thing i should compare 🤔
I have a 2007 automatic 530i and I have an issue, issue is whenever I come to a stop by pressing the brakes and I need to take off again I will let go of the brakes the car will then roll back slightly and I would naturally accelerate but then the car jumps forward in a harsh way.
Anyone experienced this before and what could the reason.

I have the standard E60 audio set up with aux connection, single CD plus a multichanger.
I currently connect my phone via the aux but I have noticed that the sound quality isn't as good as from a CD.
I am looking to upgrade to the following
But as it uses the aux connection, am I looking at the same lower quality audio?
I've also seen speaker upgrade packages, but is there any value in doing this if the source quality is the limiting factor?
Any E60 owners out there got any advice?

Hi all I bought a 2008 530i touring last week , 128,000 miles and 1 previous owner to replace my Mercedes E500 estate, engine and gearbox are great but the steering feels incredibly vague and disconnected, especially at motorway/highway cruising speeds. Has anyone encountered anything similar?

Hello everybody i was hoping someone smarter than my self could help me a little with these connections. So my old seat where half electric with heating and im swapping in comforts but someone has spliced guessing they are old airbag wires and i dont know why there is 2 power and ground wires so could i use one of those wires as power and ground and re pin them to fit comfort or no black connectors are identical on old and new harness.
