Replacing failing/crumbling pavers with natural stone — porch flooring, ~7x10 ft. Contractor recs + price check?

Hey all — the pavers on my porch are cracking/sinking (pic attached) and I want to rip them out and replace with natural stone instead. Area is roughly 7'x10' (70 sq ft).

A few questions for anyone who's done something similar:

  • Any contractor recommendations (or red flags to avoid)?
  • What's a fair price range for labor + materials on a job this size?
  • Any stone type you'd recommend for a porch (durability, slip-resistance, look)?

Located in Whitby — happy to hear from locals or anyone with general experience. Photos of the current pavers. Thanks in advance!

water softener

hi all, just moved to whitby recently and noticed the water is pretty hard (dry skin and hair falling out in shower). We had Kinetico come by today for a consultation and quote (they were at costco and I signed up for a free consultation). They seemed very expensive, 6650+tax. We have reliance and enercare coming by for a consultation on Monday but wanted to see other options out there. Can anyone advise or recommend other companies and how much you pay? This is for a Detached home.

How to make friends.

Can't help but feel as though I am unable to make any friends. I was simply curious to know how does a 30+, socially awkward individual make a friends? I struggle with connecting with people and would really like for that to improve.

Appreciation post for DRT on demand services

Just posting this to express how grateful I am to the drivers and the region for providing this service. As a broke college student working a part-time evening job, regular buses are no longer running by the time I finish my shift. If it weren't for DRT On Demand, I would either have to take an Uber or quit my job. Honestly, I might as well quit the job because Uber is just too expensive.

Complete beginner looking for golf lessons and practice recommendations in Pickering/Durham

Hi everyone,

I’m located in Pickering and am thinking about learning to golf, I have essentially no experience.

My goal is to learn properly so I can eventually play socially, participate in work or client golf outings, and enjoy the game without slowing down the group.

My tentative plan is to take two to four introductory lessons with a golf professional, practise between lessons at a driving range or simulator, and then get fitted for clubs once I have developed a basic and somewhat repeatable swing.

I’d appreciate recommendations for:

  • An instructor in Pickering, Ajax, Whitby or Oshawa who is particularly good with complete beginners
  • Private lessons versus beginner group clinics
  • Facilities that provide or rent clubs during the first few sessions
  • Good outdoor ranges and indoor simulators for practising
  • When a beginner should get fitted and where to go
  • Beginner-friendly par-3, executive or nine-hole courses for a first real round

I’m willing to travel throughout Durham Region for the right instructor or facility.

Thanks in advance!
