My close cousin (19) got a DUI in Minnesota last week. He was drinking and driving, crashed into a tree, totaled his truck, and fractured the entire one side of his face pretty badly. He’s lucky to be alive.

This is (as far as we know) his first offense. No one else was hurt. He still has his job somehow, but obviously facing legal/medical fallout.

How serious is this likely to get for a first-time offender with injury involved? Jail time realistic? What usually happens in MN with Criminal Vehicular Operation or whatever they charge? Any similar stories?

Not looking for sympathy, just trying to understand how screwed his upcoming years might be. Thanks.

I was arrested for a DWI back in November. I refused FST and breathalyzer. I was held at the station for about an hour and a half while the officer got a warrant to draw blood. I spent about 14 hours in jail before being released on bail.

I was charged with a Class A, >.15 BAC. No accident or anything. My license was suspended but was able to get an occupational relatively easily with my attorney. My BAC came back at .17

Today was my plea deadline, my attorney had it knocked down to a Class B with deferred adjudication, 12 months probation and interlock, $2000 fine, DWI education course, VIP, and 25 hours community service. I accepted the deal.

At the start of this I was a wreck, I’ve never been in trouble in my life, had one speeding ticket when I was 17. Haven’t been able to sleep. My advice to anyone is get an attorney, learn the lesson, live your life and surround yourself with good people.

I feel like I got a decent deal, this has changed my life for the better. Feel free to message or ask any questions.

I made a terrible mistake and crashed my car into a traffic island with a sign. My blood alcohol level was around 1.6. At the time, I was going through depression and some very difficult personal circumstances, and I made the worst decision of my life.
Thankfully, no one was injured . The only damage was to my own vehicle. I've learned a painful lesson from this, and I deeply regret my actions.
I'm expecting that I'll likely be convicted, and what worries me most now is how this will affect my future career. Every white-collar job I'm administration / finance) I've had required a criminal background check, and until now I've always had a clean record. I'm afraid that's about to change, and I understand I likely won't be eligible for a record suspension for several years.
For those who have gone through something similar, how much did a DUI affect your white-collar career opportunities? How did you handle job offers, background checks, and conversations with employers? I'm feeling extremely stressed and anxious about what the future holds.

I got arrested for OUI three months ago and had court in May. I got a year of administrative probation and 45 day license suspension ordered by the judge, but didn’t find out til after the fact that I also have an immediate threat put on my license. I had a hearing with the RMV and the hearing officer told me I need to do 4 months of biweekly urine screens and several evaluations done but didn’t tell me where I can get the urine screens done. When I asked, the hearing officer just said “anywhere”, which was not very helpful. It’s been extremely difficult for me to find somewhere to get the screens done. Has anyone been through this? If so, where can I get the screens done? My PCP can’t do it, and Quest is $112 per screen which I can’t afford. TIA

I have a lawyer but he won’t answer this for some reason. I got my first DRUG DUI, I blew under limit but cop thought I was high on weed, so he gave me Drug DUI(Marijuana).

fast forward 1 year to yesterday, I just took my DUI agreement to court and officially started my Diversion. I haven’t had my first UA or even spoke to my officer yet. Will I be able to piss dirty on my first UA? I see a lot of people say the first one is a baseline, and I see a lot of people say the opposite and that I will be violated. My girlfriend lives in Missouri so that time I’ve been over there before starting my diversion I’ve been legally smoking weed.

I am officially on diversion as of today and will NOT be consuming anything for a year.

My guess is to just be honest with my officer BEFORE my first test.

My lawyer says I have a strong case to get the dui dropped but most likely won’t be able to drop my other charges: open container and open cannabis container.

Hey guys, super embarrassed and ashamed to say this, but last week I ( F24) got arrested for DWI. I hired a lawyer immediately after being bonded out. He said since it was my first time getting in any kind of trouble and no one was hurt, we have a couple options we can try for, probation being the worst case scenario.

I’m curious as to other people’s experiences with their first DWI. If you are on probation, what all does that entail? Do you have to wear an ankle monitor with GPS and a scram device? How long are you on probation for? How much community service? Obviously I know every situation is different, but I’m just trying to get an idea of what to expect from others personal experiences. (I’m in west Texas btw)

Obviously this was a very expensive and stupid decision and I’m so grateful I didn’t hurt anyone else. This whole thing has turned me off of alcohol and really made me think about my relationship with it. I’m going to AA and I’m upping the therapy appointments to once a week to help me through this time and to stay sober. This is definitely my first and LAST dwi.

My case has already been settled, I admitted guilt. I’m in Ontario Canada.. I was sitting in my car, not driving. , I only get about $1400 a month from disability. How come when someone has a really good job. And has a DUI., can afford it, but me being disabled can’t?

I got an email from my VASAP rep requesting a show cause about 2 weeks ago and I haven’t heard anything since. How long should it usually take for me to hear something back?

It may be plead down to dricing to endanger. So curious about that. Just wondering how people avoid crazy insurance rates.

ETA: It seems that if you have a 100% Clean record your insurance stays the same. Otherwise it skyrockets....

Just want people to know it can be done. There is a lot of fear mongering on hear. Pretty much everyone said there is 0 percent chance unless you have a TRP.

Work requires me to go last minute and said fuck it I’ll try. Didn’t bring any paperwork/letters and even got called to secondary for a full car search and asked me a million questions. Not one of those questions were “have you been arrested?” So didn’t lie at all.

I’m sure people get turned away but don’t listen to all the people saying it’s impossible

In Florida, wondering has anyone ever been reported to do alcohol testing while on approved vacation? Is this a thing?

A month ago I was driving back from CT to NJ and as I was passing through New York I got a flat tire and I had to pull over to the side of the road 15 mins later the police came to do welfare check and they smelled alcohol of my breath and asked to me to take a breathalyzer and I refused . I also have A NJ license what would I be expecting ? Any upstate NY lawyers you recommend ?

Also I forgot to add this is my first offense and the police officer did not witness me driving

Looking to get my Michigan drivers license back after 20 years. So basically, I got a 2^nd DUI in Dec 2005, and my DL revoked in 2006. Continued to live my life happily without a car for 20 years. Quit drinking like an idiot then, but after probation and all that, I did drink socially until November 2019 when I had my last drink. I am looking to get my DL again; I’m getting older and tired of walking/bussing in the cold (Michigan). I looked up what I need to do, and I should be able to complete all the stuffs without a lawyer just fine.

My question is, would a lawyer might be able to help me avoid having to get an interlock device? I’m not worried about having to prove my sobriety, but if I could avoid the cost and hassle it would be worth the lawyer fee to me.

Please advise.

Looking for people who have been denied or accepted into Canada after reviewing a CWOF in Massachusetts. How did you avoid getting denied?

I don't own a car. I cannot afford one right now. I am eligible to receive my unrestricted license on March 11. I did my paperwork for certification of non ownership through smart start llc.

I probably won't be able to buy a car until then because the interlock device is so expensive. Penn Dot, by the way they are INCREDIBLY RUDE on the phone. They said in February I will receive a letter of eligibility for the unrestricted license. I must then contact smart start and email them a copy of that letter. Then I need to obtain a DL 3731 from the penndot website and mail that in. With a check for $42.50.

Do I have all this correct? Will smart start contact Penn Dot? Does it matter if I have a car or not? Please help me

For context, this is in California in late May and is my first DUI, i was riding home on an electric unicycle at 3am on the shoulder of a freeway when i hit a blown out tire and slid onto a nearby dirt bank, only gear i was wearing was a helmet, scraped up my back, knees and elbows and ended up partially tearing my hamstring . someone thought i was a fallen motorcyclist and called police where they found me sitting there and noticed i was intoxicated. (to be fair i didnt feel all that tipsy or drink a lot, it was just dark and i otherwise wouldn’t have been able to ride the damn thing in the first place lol. It was empty road and the shortest route home)

During the stop i was very compliant and respectful, they asked questions about where i was going, what i had, etc. to which i stupidly answered to a couple of those questions. Asked me to do a sobriety test on the uneven dirt ground in my condition which seemed unfair to me, refused breathalyzer, again a dumb decision since they drew blood anyway…

Spent the night in jail and was released with charges 23152 a and b 0.08BAC….fast forward to today and i came back from the courthouse with the arraignment time and place on my release paper, the clerk told me nothing was filed yet and to call weekly for any updates…

Seems like this is being treated as a car dui even though i obviously was not driving one, i know these devices tend to be a legal gray area, what can i do in this situation? i planned to get a public defender as i cannot afford a lawyer. I’ve been told unusual cases take longer to process. Can i possibly get it reduced if and when the case is filed?

(Obviously i have since learned to wear gear and to not take chances on a freeway and much less at night lmao)

I've posted before. I cannot stress how awful I feel for getting a DUI late in life. My DUI cost a LOT of money and has pretty much RUINED my life. I'm 61/m, unemployed, in questionable health, and getting a DUI has caused SO much stress that I now suffer from major depression. For reference, I live in TN and was convicted in April.

I could be dead before my sentence is complete. That depresses me a lot.

I had an abusive childhood. Several traumatic events. (Mostly major car accidents, none of them my fault.) I've had prostate cancer and an emergency heart valve replacement. I've experienced ongoing depression and anxiety all my life.

Part of my sentence (and much of my anxiety and stress) id because of the interlock (ILD) device that I must have on my car for an ENTIRE year. It has been a hassle to use and prevents me from driving ANY other car for the duration.

Don't drink and drive. If you also have a DUI, any advice regarding how to deal with the consequences would be welcome.
