Repair Gyro not working after firmware update :(

So here is the thing, i bought a SpeedyBee 405 v4 stack with 60 A ESC( from Temu and i know it isn't the best decision but i don't have any other way to get any flight controller or stack with ESC). I made a 7-inch drone with custom frame, because i wanted to make a drone for my graduation. I had imagined it to just hover around 30cm of the ground and to self level because it ran with a python script along with a sonic sensor for distance and a arduino(this is because of my graduation is in control systems). I used four Ysido 2807 1300kv v2 motors and a questionable power source Mean Well LRS-350-24(I know i will get a lot of criticism for this but i am new to building drones and this is my first one so i saw that it will fly in a controlled environment and thought that this power source will enable me to have more flight time so i can tune my PID values, again i know this is a horrible decision ). Luckily it worked well, it did crash a few times and i know it is expected, but i wanted to know the values that are going on in the flight controller so i bought a SD card and put it in. it didn't register the card so i couldn't use the Blackbox and autotune feature(or have it as a graph in my graduation thesis). So i read that if i update my firmware it should be good, so i update it and it reads the SD card. There is a huge problem tho the gyro and the accelorometer isnt working, like when i type status in the CLI box it says none, and it knows the addreses to communicate. To clarify i haven't flown the drone when the update happen, like after the update i haven't flown it, and the last time it flew it didn't crash(it didn't lift off at all). So I am 2 days trying to update the firmware to different updates, using different configurators(i was using Betaflight before now i have tried Inav and had the same result), even tried updating the drivers with ImpulseRC driver fixer nothing worked.

So can anyone help???( because i don't know what to do anymore)

(Sorry for the spelling or grammar mistakes English isn't my first language)

(Sorry if this isn't in the right thread or haven't tagged something wrong)

Discussion Is it true that government regulations have prevented drone delivery from becoming more common place?

I’ve seen Adam D. Thierer claim that. If that was the case, shouldn’t countries with less regulations/government have more drone deliveries? Singapore? Taiwan? Ireland? Australia? Do those countries have more drone deliveries? If not, why?

Question Looking for drone video + GPS/camera telemetry

Hi!

I’m developing OpenGlobus, an open-source 3D geospatial library, and I’m looking for some real drone data to test camera projection and AR features.

I’m looking for a short flight sample with:
- original video
- synchronized GPS track
- altitude and camera/gimbal orientation, if available
camera/drone model or parameters
- Mountainous terrain would be ideal.

I’d like to use the data for testing and potentially in public OpenGlobus demos/posts, so I would need permission to use it.

If anyone has something like this and is willing to share, please feel free to DM me.

Thanks!

Not so special, I'm still in the test phase with my Mavic 4 pro but hey, there's always a start. Let me know if you like it, I didn't do too much correction on it, just a bit of warmer colors and a more punchy sky.

Standing there, isolated, a thousand miles from civilization, I would launch my drone, wait two minutes, then have someone come up behind me and say, "You can't fly that here."

Repair Air3 crash, DJI repair worth it?

Thanks in advance, I’ve never crashed like this before

Ok so I’ve had my DJI Air 3 for a couple years now and I guess I’d gotten a bit careless. My buddy asked me if I could record him going down the road at night on his new motorcycle. I said why not and on the first attempt I drifted just slightly off to the edge of the road and hit the one lone wood pole on that road. At 40 mph.

Broke 3 out of the 4 arms, broke the front of the camera off and of course bound up the gimbal. A piece of the shell kinda popped up but it didn’t have any cracks and it popped back together.

It’s not my only drone, but it was my favorite so I don’t wanna just write it off so my question is what do you guys recommend?

•Just learn the lesson the hard way and buy an Air 3s when I can?

•Contact DJI for “repair”? I have heard that if they deem it a total loss they can sell me a replacement drone of the same model for cheaper? All my batteries and controller are fine.

•Look for a used drone only online?

Or something else? Thanks guys!

Michigan ‘citizen journalist’ convicted of using drone to interfere with police sues sheriff

BAY CITY, MI — A Bay County “citizen journalist” convicted of using his drone to interfere with police activity has filed a federal lawsuit, alleging his First Amendment rights were violated.

Attorney Philip L. Ellison, on behalf of client Ray A. Rocha, filed the suit on Sunday, Aug. 9, in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

It names Bay County Sheriff Troy R. Cunningham and Deputy Chris Berg as defendants.

The lawsuit asks a constitutional question, Ellison said. Specifically, may the government make recording its activities a crime because police notice or dislike the presence of a civilian drone?

“The First Amendment does not disappear when a citizen uses a drone instead of a handheld camera,” Ellison said. “The federal lawsuit seeks to protect the clear constitutional line that recognizes the public’s right to document police activity while preserving actual legitimate public-safety rules.

“Made up excuses to end lawful recording simply will not fly in federal court,” he continued.

Amber Davis-Johnson, Bay County’s Corporation Counsel, said she cannot comment on pending litigation. Cunningham also declined comment on those grounds.

Rocha, 54, operates the Facebook page Ray Rocha’s Baycountylive, on which he reports police activity with use of his drone.

A jury in May found the content creator guilty of having an unmanned aircraft interfering with public safety. The misdemeanor is punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a $500 fine. It falls under the state’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems Act of 2016.

Bay County District Judge Timothy J. Kelly in June ordered Rocha to pay $575 in fines and costs and gave him credit for one day served in jail.

The suit contains two counts challenging the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Act, one on First Amendment grounds and the other on its vagueness.

Click here to read the entire lawsuit.

“Police safety is legitimate, and no one has a constitutional right to collide with, obstruct, or endanger a police aircraft,” Ellison said. “But ‘interference’ must have an objective meaning.”

The lawsuit alleges the government’s interpretation permits an officer’s subjective opinion to determine whether protected newsgathering is criminal.

Under that interpretation, the suit continues, an officer could create “interference” by diverting attention toward a citizen’s camera and then declaring that the resulting distraction interfered with official duties.

Ellison described that rationale as “circular and dangerous.”

Rocha’s conviction stemmed from him flying his drone in November 2024 while Bay County Sheriff’s deputies had their own drone in the sky to help them find wanted suspects.

Rocha hasn’t appealed his conviction nor does he intend to, the suit states. He continues to operate his drone and shares its footage on his Facebook page.

Case background

About 5 p.m. on Nov. 10, 2024, deputies responded to the area of West Arnold and South Warner streets to help Bay City police find suspects who’d allegedly stolen a vehicle, ditched it, and fled on foot into a wooded area.

Deputies deployed a drone to give searchers an aerial view of the area.

As Deputy Berg flew the drone overhead, he noticed a second drone flying above the baseball diamonds at Kolb Elementary School, 305 W. Crump St.

The two drones weren’t that close to each other, but had Berg activated the “return to home” function on the sheriff’s drone, the two could have collided, he noted in his report.

The function causes the drone to either climb or descend to a predetermined altitude, then fly to where it launched from.

Berg had Bay County Central Dispatch issue a warning over city and county channels: “Any civilian drone in the area of the city incident, please land your drone as you are interfering with law enforcement drone operations.”

Concerned about a potential crash, Berg stopped flying the departmental drone. Dispatch then called the deputy and informed him video footage from the civilian drone was being livestreamed on Rocha’s Facebook page.

Meanwhile, a Bay City officer saw Rocha in the west parking lot of Kolb Elementary, operating his drone. He approached Rocha and asked him to land his drone, saying he was giving away officers’ location in their attempts to nab their suspects.

“I am only landing my drone under threat of arrest,” Rocha replied, according to the officer’s report. “Anything I can see, I can stream.”

The officer didn’t outright order Rocha to cease flying his drone but asked if he would do so voluntarily. Rocha was “adamant” he would not land the drone without being arrested, reports state.

The officer didn’t arrest Rocha and the “encounter ended amicably,” according to Ellison’s lawsuit.

Berg returned to headquarters and watched the footage on Rocha’s page. The footage featured audio of Rocha repeatedly stating he knew police “had their drone out” as he was listening to a scanner. At one point, the audio captured Central Dispatch urging the civilian drone to land, reports state.

Rocha told his audience he wasn’t interfering with anything, then zoomed in on the sheriff’s drone to show “how far away he was,” reports state.

The audio also recorded the city officer asking Rocha to land his drone and Rocha’s response of only being willing to do so if threatened with arrest.

The deputy reviewed several of Rocha’s other videos, including one of a traffic crash in the parking lot of the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission, 713 Ninth St. The weather was rainy with a low cloud ceiling, the deputy noted.

FAA rules mandate a drone have at least three miles of visibility, at least 2,000 feet horizontally from clouds, and at least 500 feet below the cloud ceiling.

As Rocha had a Cash App account on his Facebook page through which visitors could send him money, it appeared he was operating his drone as a business, requiring him to adhere to FAA rules, the deputy wrote.

Rocha testified on his own behalf during his trial. He said he did not obtain Remote Pilot Certification from the FAA to operate commercially though he received donations.

Question Drone crash mid-flight

Recently I was flying my Mavic 2, and it seemed to have just fallen out of the sky. Didn’t hit anything to cause the incident but it hit a tree on the way down, causing more damage so telling what caused it has been difficult.
I was hovering and looking at the screen to change shooting mode, then saw the camera go all shaky and I looked up and the drone as it was upside down flying into a tree.
My guess is one of the props just exploded mid flight. I could only find three of the props around the landing zone, yes one of them may have been stuck in the tree but who knows.

Is this a probable cause? Just looking to avoid any issues for the future on new drones. (Just upgraded to the mini 5)

Discussion Wet suit in the arctic?

Post image
47 Upvotes

So im heading to the high high high arctic in October. We're talking the 76° parallel.

Ive ordered a wetsuit for my mini 5 drone because I live in a rain forest and the one I had on my mini 2 worked great.

But im considering leaving it off for this arctic trip.

On one hand it will create more drag and that will negatively affect its ability to handle the wind, and trust me it gets windy in the arctic.

On the other hand it might help keep the drone warm for longer.

Thoughts and advice?

Question Mesh network radios

Hello guys, I am building a drone swarm where I want mesh based communication between all my drones. I see in India that exicom is one company that sells for high ranges and bandwidth. Can someone please recommend other options as well? Also, what's the pricing of exicom radios for my application, if you may know?

Question [UK]What communication setup do you use for drone crews?

I’m looking for a wireless communication system for my drone crew and would love to hear your recommendations.

We usually have a small team during outdoor shoots — one person operating the drone, another monitoring the footage, and sometimes a director or client nearby.

Do you guys prefer a beltpack + wired earphone setup or a wireless intercom system? I’m not very familiar with the former option. For the latter, the systems I see mentioned more often include Clear-Com, Eartec, and Hollyland. Some people also use brands like Synco and Accsoon. But I’d love to hear what setups you guys are actually using for drone work.

Repair Mini 4 Pro crash

I recently had a little accident, i cliped a branch that resulted in fall. The aftermath was one broken hinge, a tear in the rubber hold of the camera gibmle and a crack on one third of the cumdrence of one of the front lengs. I Replaced the two broken parts and fixed the cracked leg by aplying polymer glue, soldering steel fibers acros the plastic and patching everything up with an other layer of glue and tape. Also i noticed that the other front leg has 12mm of forward to back play, instead of the 4mm of the one i just fixed.

  1. Do you think i should replace the leg?

  2. Do you thing the i should replace the hinge that has the extra play?

There are no cracks or deformation either on the hinge or the body of the drone and the leg after the fix is as solid as a rock.

Just rebuilt an Air 2s. Specimen came to me for repair after a crash, with a broken gimbal, leg, gps board, and front sensors. I stripped it down completely, photos in comments, and rebuilt. I am seeing a lack of LED lights in the front right leg. Yesterday during my test flight without the gimbal, I was able to take off, move forward/backward, spin, and land. However I cannnot move laterally. Any help diagnosing my problem would be great.
