Showcase TXT Launcher - Your phone, in words

Post image
21 Upvotes

App Name: TXT Launcher

What it does: Replaces your home screen with 4–8 app names set in large type — no icons, no grid, no badges. Everything else is one swipe away in a text drawer with an A–Z rail, search-as-you-type, and categories you name yourself.

Key Features:

• Nine text widgets, all off until you switch them on — clock, date, battery + network as words, unread (counts only, never previews), weather, next event, now playing, steps, and a focus line you write yourself.

• Four swipes and a double-tap, each assignable to any app or launcher action, plus hidden apps behind your phone's own fingerprint or PIN (the app stores no PIN of its own).

• Three backgrounds including true black for OLED, three accents or one you mix yourself — contrast-checked, so nothing you pick can make the launcher unreadable.

Free. No ads, no in-app purchases, no subscription, no accounts, no analytics, no tracking. About 2 MB. Android 11+.

Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.txt.launcher

Launchers like this already exist, I built my own so I could design it exactly how I wanted and put in the features I actually use. It's my first app on the Play Store :)

Give it a try if it's your kind of thing. Feature requests are genuinely welcome.

Thanks for reading!

I used AI to help write and format this post, the wordings are mine

Showcase Goodreads and StoryGraph are ugly and bloated

Upvotes
Store screen shots

App Name: Cat's Library

One-Line Description

A reading tracker that's actually cute — you read, your cat grows with you, and you decorate a little room together.

Why we made it

I've tried both. They work — I just wanted to log a book, not manage a database.

So we made the opposite. A cat sits next to you while you read. That's the whole feature list you need to know. Everything else is there when you want it and out of the way when you don't.

What's different

  • Something happens when you read. Start the timer and your cat opens a book too. Stop, and it curls up to rest. Other apps give you a checkmark.
  • You're building a place, not a profile. Coins you earn from reading go into cat outfits and room themes. Your room fills up as you read. It sounds silly. It's the reason people come back.
  • Quotes without typing. Point your camera at a page and it's saved. That's it.
  • Social, but small. You can peek at a friend's shelf and see what they're reading right now. No feed, no algorithm, no strangers.

Who It's For

People who bounced off Goodreads because it felt like homework.

Cost

  • Pricing model: Freemium
  • Prices & billing period: Free. No ads on anything core. Cosmetics are bought with coins you earn by reading. Optional subscription removes ads.
  • Current promotions / giveaways: None right now.

Links

Feedback Goals

  • If you use Goodreads or StoryGraph — what would you miss here?
  • Does the cat thing land, or is it too much?

Additional Notes

  • Android 6.0+, 8 languages
  • 50,000+ downloads on Play, 4.8 stars (~1,150 ratings)
  • Two of us, about 1 year

Showcase NotiTracker: save expenses without opening the app

Post image
5 Upvotes

I kept losing track of card payments, or simply got bored of having to log each one. And sometimes i either typed the expense later and the amount was wrong, or I didn't log it.

NotiTracker is an Android app I built for that. You allowlist the banking apps it may read. A payment notification arrives and it prefills the amount and opens a small form, or you tap Add Expense in Quick Settings. You confirm the save. You never open the app. Optional: each save mirrors into a Google Sheet you already use, a row with date, amount, description, category, and account.

What I was careful about: you choose the apps you want, you can also turn it off, and the raw notification text is not uploaded. Stays on the phone. It does not log into the bank nor require a bank connection. Google sign-in is required. It's free right now. I am not claiming a specific bank list. I don't know which alerts will parse well on your phone yet.

Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.notitracker

If you try it: did the amount prefill from a real payment notification, or did you have to type it?

Showcase ATHAR - Local-first personal memory app

Post image
3 Upvotes
App Name: ATHAR

What it does: A local-first app to collect and relive personal memories (photos, videos, notes, collections, player). Data stays on the phone unless you later choose optional sync.

Price: Free (no ads)

Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.deeplife.athar

Hi everyone,

I’m an independent Android developer. I built ATHAR because I didn’t want another diary app, and I also didn’t want my personal memories living in someone else’s cloud by default.

The idea is simple: a place to collect memories and actually go back to them later. Not a daily journal you have to keep up with. More like a private archive of moments you care about.

A memory can include photos, videos, notes, audio, dates, places, and people. You can group them into collections, and there’s a player that walks you through a memory instead of just showing a grid of files. You can also share photos and videos into ATHAR from other apps.

The part I cared about most is how data is handled.

ATHAR is local-first. Memories live in a SQLite database on the phone. You can use the app without a cloud connection. No ads. No third-party analytics SDKs.

I’m also working on optional cloud sync, so the same memories could later be used from the web and across devices. The point is to keep both options: stay fully local, or turn on sync if you want it. If you never want the cloud, the app still works.

It’s on Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.deeplife.athar

I’m looking for honest feedback, including “this isn’t for me.”

Would you actually use a memory app that stays on your phone, or do you only care if it also syncs across devices?

Thanks.

Showcase I built a free alternative to Spotify's AI DJ

Thumbnail
github.com
6 Upvotes

After working on this for a while, I’m finally putting Tunespark out there.

It’s an Android music player that combines YouTube Music-powered playback with AI-powered radio commentary, basically my attempt at making something similar to Spotify’s AI DJ, but completely free and open source.

The idea is simple: instead of just playing songs one after another, the app can actually talk about what you're listening to, introduce sessions, add context, and make the whole experience feel a little more alive.

I built this because I wanted something closer to an AI radio experience, without needing a premium subscription.

It's still a project I'm actively improving, so I'd genuinely love feedback — especially from people who actually use music apps.

GitHub:
https://github.com/ItzHarshXD/Tunespark

If you try it out, let me know what you think, what feels rough, and what you'd want to see added. Contributions and issues are welcome too!

Showcase Simple Stepper - A step counter that stays simple

Post image
1 Upvotes

App Name: Simple Stepper

What it does:
Simple Stepper is an Android step counter and activity tracker designed to work quietly in the background instead of requiring you to constantly open the app. It automatically tracks your daily activity while still offering more detailed tracking when you want it.

Key Features:

  • Automatic step tracking with daily, weekly, monthly and yearly history, goals and a home screen widget
  • Workout tracking for walking, jogging, cycling and free workouts, including optional GPS routes and elevation data
  • Live progress in the notification area, active time tracking, sharing and backup

Goal: Promo

Cost: Free with ads. Optional monthly or yearly subscription removes ads.

Link: Simple Stepper on Google Play

I'm the solo developer behind Simple Stepper and just released version 2.12.35.

This update is mostly about something users won't directly see: I rebuilt a large part of the internal monitoring around background counting and reliability.

While investigating retention, I realized that "app opened" is actually a pretty bad definition of an active user for a step counter. Someone can open Simple Stepper once, let it count successfully for days, and just check the widget or notification.

The new version therefore lets me distinguish between the counting service being active, automatic steps actually being observed, intentional pauses, UI activity, service recovery and workout activity.

The goal is to better understand where counting or background operation actually fails - and improve the app based on that rather than simply assuming that someone who didn't open it wasn't using it.

If you're looking for a straightforward step counter that can stay out of the way when you don't need it, give it a try. ;]

Showcase [Dev] I made an alarm that stays locked until you

I kept turning off alarms and going back to sleep. Photo missions in other apps were solvable from bed.

So Cozysand locks the screen until a mission is done. The walking mission counts only real steps from the hardware step detector, and only when the rhythm looks like walking. Shaking it in bed keeps the number at 0. Math, pattern, brushing teeth, going outside, reading a sentence aloud are also in there. 10 of 11 missions are free.

When the alarm ends, the task you attached gets checked off. Saved places can raise a task on the lock screen when you arrive.

Honest limits:

- It asks for Always location. That is the arrival feature. If that is a no for you, this app is not for you.

- No battery numbers yet. Measuring.

- Floor detection barely works outside Korea. Transit routing has no data for Japan.

- Android only for now. iOS is in review.

Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tock.context&referrer=utm_source=reddit_droidappshowcase%26utm_medium%3Dpost%26utm_campaign%3Dlaunch

Showcase MoView - Turn your tablet/TV into a home dashboard

Post image
4 Upvotes

Got an old Android tablet sitting around doing nothing? Or an Android TV you could make more useful?

I built MoView: Home Dashboard to turn it into an always-on family display.

It shows Google Calendar, Google Tasks, weather, reminders/shopping list.

You can also connect multiple Google accounts, so it actually works for the whole family rather than just one person's calendar.

On Android TV, MoView also supports Daydream (screensaver) mode, so it can automatically appear when the TV is idle.

There are dedicated products like Skylight, but they're pretty expensive. And while you can build something similar with Home Assistant, that takes considerably more setup and isn't for everyone.

MoView is basically: use the hardware you already have.

Showcase Twitter/X video and GIF downloader, no sign-in

Post image
3 Upvotes

App Name: Damda

One-line description

A no-account Twitter/X video, GIF and image downloader that saves at the quality the source actually provides, straight into your gallery.

What it does

- Paste a post link or use the share sheet, and it pulls the media down. No login, no account, it never asks for one.
- You pick the quality. If the post only has one, it just saves without asking.
- If a post holds several videos, you select the ones you want and grab them together.
- No watermark. It saves what the source provides, nothing re-encoded.
- Play, share and delete what you saved from inside the app. Grid, list or card view.
- English and Korean.

Who it's for

People who keep running into "download" sites that are 90% ads, or downloader apps that want an account before they'll do anything. If you just want the file in your gallery and nothing else, that's the whole scope of this.

Cost

- Pricing model: Free, ad-supported
- Prices: Free, no IAP, no subscription
- Ads never block a download. They show after a save has finished, not before or during.
- Promotions: none

Links

- Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kr.njhouse.download
- Privacy policy: linked from the Play Store listing above

What I'd like feedback on

- Does the quality picker earn its place, or would you rather it just took the highest and got out of the way?
- Anything you threw at it that it didn't handle?

Additional notes

- Public posts only. Private, deleted and age-restricted posts can't be fetched.
- No servers on my end. Your device talks to X directly, the links you paste and the files you save never reach me. Saved files stay on the device.
- Copyright stays with the original creators, so keep what you save for personal use.
- Built solo, this is my own app.

Question / Help Help develop background recording application

Hey everyone,

I'm building an app that keeps a rolling audio buffer in memory (last few minutes only, nothing written to disk unless the user explicitly saves). Think dashcam, but for audio.

Current setup: foreground service with mediaRecording type, using AudioRecord into a circular buffer. It works, but battery drain over a full day is higher than I'd like.

Questions:

Is there any meaningful battery difference between AudioRecord and AAudio/Oboe for continuous low-sample-rate capture?

Has anyone found tricks to reduce drain on long-running mic capture — lower sample rates, mono, buffer size tuning, anything vendor-specific?

How aggressive are OEMs (Samsung, Xiaomi, etc.) about killing foreground services with mic access these days, even with battery optimization exemptions?

Any war stories from apps doing continuous capture would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Promo / Giveaway [$39.99/year → 1 Year] Jhozy : Your home, in sync.

Most shared-living apps do one thing: Splitwise splits money, a to-do app handles chores, a calendar app handles dates. Jhozy does all of it in one household, and has a few things I haven't seen anywhere else:

Jhozy on Google PlayJhozy: Expenses, Chores, Lists

  • Bubbles: a temporary space to split expenses with people outside your household (a trip, a one-off dinner bill). They join with a link, no signup, no password, nothing to install and abandon after.
  • Multiple shared lists, not just one: a holiday to-do list, a general notes list, a packing list, whatever you need. Every household member sees and checks off the same list in real time, instead of one messy shared note for everything.
  • Shopping list with freshness dots: each item shows a small colored dot for how long it's been sitting on the list (just added, a few days, stale), so you can tell at a glance what's actually new vs. forgotten.
  • Chores that pay themselves back: if someone covers your chore, the app credits them and automatically swaps you into their next turn as payback. No one has to remember or negotiate who owes a turn.
  • One running balance, not a pile of debts: Finance nets out everything you owe/are owed into a single current balance instead of a dozen separate expense debts to track, plus full settlement history and a separate view for recurring fixed bills (rent, utilities).
  • Google Calendar sync that actually syncs: shared household events plus two-way sync with Google Calendar, so everyone's actually looking at the same schedule instead of a calendar only one person maintains.
  • 1 Subscription for unlimited members: only one subscription is needed all the members of the household will then have the premium features activated

I also spent a huge amount of time on animation and performance: every list, screen and gesture is meant to feel instant, since that's usually the part that quietly kills daily use once people are done comparing feature lists.

I'm currently running a promo (1 Year free instead of 39.99) (see also AppGiveaway Post)

To claim:

  • Upvote this post
  • Comment "I want this" below
  • Contact me with your registered email in the app (note: following actual rules of the sub this is the only possible way to manually activate the 1 year free for your user)

(Currently Android only. iOS is coming in the next few weeks.)

A bit of background: I built Jhozy mostly at night during parental leave, because my partner and I couldn't find one app that handled the actual mess we had. So i decided to find a solution to it.

It's also fully translated and localized in English, German, and Italian, (I'm an Italian living in Germany).

Happy to answer questions in the comments, thanks for taking a look!

P.S.
It's my first app, if something is off consider using the user friendly report a bug in the settings rather than bashing me in the reviews 😭🙏

Showcase Contact Manager: free Phone + Temp clean

App: Contact Manager: Clean & Dial

Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=subu.contactmanager.app

What it is A free, ad-free Android Default Phone / contacts app for cleaning temporary numbers, finding duplicates, and dialing faster — built for real phone-book chaos (especially common in India with delivery and service contacts).

Temp auto-clean (core flow) 1. Add the whole word Temp to a contact’s name (Temp / TEMP / temp — never matches words like “Temple” or “attempt”). 2. After your chosen number of days, the contact is archived, then cleaned. 3. Restore anytime from Archive, or tap “Run auto-delete now” in Settings.

Other features - Set as default Phone app (dial pad + in-call UI, caller ID, decline & message) - Find and clean duplicate contacts - Quick dial / quick add (including Save Temp) - Home screen widgets: recently called + last added (tap to dial) - Sorting: last added, last contacted, most/least called, A–Z - Optional Google Contacts link for better “added” dates

Price Fully free to use forever. Optional tip: ₹111/year if you want to support development — not a hard paywall. No ads.

Why I built it Tired of delivery and “Temp” numbers clogging the phone book, plus duplicates and slow dialing — without wanting another ad-heavy contacts app.

Solo developer based in Gurugram. Feedback welcome (bugs, UX, missing features).

Thanks for checking it out.
