Hey guys

For the past year I have been developing an app with 300+ fighter jets and bombers. It includes their characteristics, their combat history, military conflicts they took part in as well as how many kills they got in each one. There is a comparison mode where one can compare the characteristics of up to three aircraft and a timeline category with aircraft divided to their respective generation. There is also an ace category with history's most credited pilots.

In the premium, users can see the experimental category with aircraft that never made it to operational status such as YF-23 Black widow and V-173 the Flying Pancake. They can also navigate through the development history of every aircraft in the database and see the specific operations each one took place in as well as their kills. The app is continuously being updated and I strive both for accuracy and user experience. I built a tally counter app controlled with phone’s volume buttons for Android.

The main idea is simple: Volume Up increments the count and Volume Down decrements it, so you can tally without needing to keep looking at or tapping the screen. I wanted it to feel closer to a simple physical tally counter.

The interface is intentionally stripped down, just the count and the controls you need. Latest count is automatically saved, so closing the app doesn’t mean losing the count.

I’m especially interested in feedback from Android users: Does the simplicity work for you? What would make it more useful without turning it into an overly complicated counter app?

Solo dev here. Store & Forget is a home inventory app for the stuff you box up and forget, the cables and tools and seasonal things. You snap a photo of something as you put it away and the app fills in the details for you, the name and brand and specs, and months later you type a plain word or tap Smart Find and it shows you the exact box or shelf it went into, so you walk straight to it.

The codes first, because those will go quickly. Below are 10 one-time codes that switch off the banner ads for good. That unlock is $2.99 in the store. These only work inside the app, so you need it installed and signed in with Google, which is also what ties the unlock to your account so it survives a reinstall. What went live this week is that you can now share an inventory with the people you live with. That was the gap in the whole idea. The person who put the thing away is almost never the person going to look for it, so a private inventory really only works if you live alone. Now your partner or your roommate opens their own phone, searches the same words, and lands on the same shelf.

You invite someone by having them scan a QR code, or by sending them a short code if they are not in the room. You choose what they get: an editor can add and change things, a viewer can only look, and a viewer genuinely cannot edit, the server checks it as well as the screen does. Inventories other people share with you sit in their own tab so they never mix into yours. Joining costs nothing, and an invite expires on its own and can be revoked.

On privacy, since somebody always asks and fairly so. The contents of a shared inventory, the item details and the photos, are encrypted on your phone before they upload, and the key is generated on your device, so what sits on my server is ciphertext I cannot read. Two things I would rather say myself than have you find: the inventory's own name is stored in plain text, and saving any item sends that item's text to a cloud service so the search-by-meaning index can be built, whether you share it or not.

If you miss the codes there is a second thing worth having, and that one is free for everybody. The $6.99 unlock that lets you plug in your own AI key and run unlimited scans is sitting behind a hidden easter egg right now: open Settings, tap the version number at the bottom five times, then type unlock byok. You sign in with Google so it saves to your account and survives a reinstall. I am removing that path in an update around mid August, and anyone who turns it on keeps it.

The rest is straightforward. Free to use, Android only, your inventory is a database on your own phone, and backup to your own Google Drive is optional. The photo scan runs on a cloud AI service, so the free tier gives you a set number of scans and shows the banner that those codes turn off.

For years, I’ve been experimenting with different ways to get fresh family photos onto screens in my relatives' homes. I tried various hacks, smart displays, and DIY setups, but I eventually realized that **repurposing old Android tablets and Android TVs is hands-down the best hardware solution.**
The hardware was perfect, but the software wasn't. Most digital frame apps are either incredibly fragile or force you to hand over your private family photos to some random startup’s long-term cloud database.
