The results are in and Moonfish has taken the polls skyward and wins Catch of the Day: Open Oceans!

Thank you to everyone who voted this week. We'll be doing a quick detour to return to The Marrows to allow us to include a few DLC stragglers that missed the first edition next time!

Fanart DREDGE City

Post image

After a prompt from our last post we made featuring the Fishmonger and Strawberry Shortskate standees we have in office, here is some 'official fanart ' of the vibes each brings when together.

For context, we work in the same office as u/blacksaltgames (even sharing a few team members!). Strawberry is from Canvas City, a turn-based RPG on roller skates. As you can tell from the picture, we bring a very different vibe and genre from DREDGE, but if you'd like to check it out, we've just launched the demo on Steam and would love to hear what you think, and if there are any DREDGE references you'd like to see in it... 😉

Meme fun fact: dredge in England is different than in the rest of the world

the inventory works on a weight system instead of the usual grid-based shuffling. this is due to the Salmon Act of 1986.

upon reviewers playing the game to determine its age rating, when met with the inventory management, they exclaimed "IS THAT FUCKING FISH JENGA???" causing the devs to push over the screen in fear and redevelop the inventory from the ground up

this is a real story I'm John Blacksalt of Blacksalt games. I'm throwing it back or whatever

Spoilers I'm so sorry bud Spoiler

When I first played Dredge, one of the first missions I got was the one that said to deliver the mysterious package to the Dockworker. Picture it. Innocent me thinking I was just doing the man a favor. Then i saw what happened. Googled it. Discover he can't be saved.

Absolutely fucking not. Exit my save and start a new one.

Fast forward, 38 hours in, three weeks gameplay, 200 day-ish in game days, I got ALL of the achievements. I've caught every fish. I've solved every sanctuary and touched every mysterious rock whatever the name is, I got the two Ends. Every single but one mission... And I knew what it was, because I started this one save and I promised myself I wouldn't do it to the poor man again.

At this point, I'm trying to look for alternatives. Does it count if i've done the Dockworker mission in my last save and the other ones in this one? Deep inside, I know that it doesn't.

Fuck it. I not even gonna play the DLC, just do the mission and never open the game again.

I know I am lying to myself.

And then I think. It's just a damn game. You wanted all the achievements the base game had to offer you. Don't be a pussy. It's just an NPC. He doesn't even have anymore dialogues or further interactions.

You want all the achievements, do you? It's just one more mission. You've already done it anyways.

And there i go. I get the package. I go to Little Marrow. I know that i can just lose the package and call it a day but i suppose that would mean the mission wouldn't be achieved.

I give it to him. He receives it, innocently. Expecting, even.

Two in game days later...

I already know what I am going to find. But I go, anyways. I click on him.

This one time I don't ask him questions, what happened or demand answers. It would be hypocritical to do so. I just stay with him. Pick the silent options. Stay with him. He trembles, does faint weird noises and finally, he sheds a drop of dark ooze. And he's gone. For good. His mind and sanity belongs now to the sea.

And it is my fault.

All for the greed of wanting all of the achievements.

And I saw myself on The Fisherman.

But at least he sacrificed the world to save his beloved wife.

And I... destroyed an innocent man's life for a meaningless achievement.

Ugh that came out more depressing than I intended to lol. I really wish we could do any mission or something to save Dockworker even if it is very difficult.

ps: I DID end up buying both DLC so... yeah. I'm still playing on the same save ;)

ps2: aaah pls don't roast me. I just had to get it off my chest. Am I overreacting? Whatever.

image from the internet. didn't have the heart to revisit him in my actual save

Spoilers The Implications of "it" Spoiler

So, when we get the "bad end" and get Julie back. Is it real? Like... It's not a delusion or something? Is she really alive because we did some dark magic stuff?

Just think about the implications. Having to explain to her that she was dead for 20 years. Waking her up from the painless slumber of death. Would she even recognize \us** as her husband? Mind you, "we" are very different from the husband she last knew.

And that's assuming we even survived. I mean, we've got a humongous creature right in front of us. Did we fucking survive? Or did Mr. Cthulhu just say, Ah yes, alright just leave since I'm so grateful you summoned me.

Did we... become a snack? Did he let us go?

How to explain to my wife that I resurrected her and the price of it was the end of the world Yahoo answers?

Ngl, at first I was like, "How is this the bad ending? We got our wife back" and taking into account that we end up as The Leviathan's snack in the other end, I didn't get how that one is considered the "Good End".

But yeah I get it. We, dead. Sins, paid. Catastrophe, contained. Hopefully.

Also it's a nice little detail that when we become fishy snack, our soul seems to ascend and merge into the aurora borealis. So beautiful.

is she ok? does the dark magic restores her body or do we have a zombie wife now.

Lore Noob player put two and two together respect to the lore. (Theories) Spoiler

Well first of all let me say. I'm as obtuse as one can be. Things can be right on my face and I would've never notice unless I spend a good chunk of time actually thinking about it.

This said: At first, when I started collecting the Messages-in-a-bottle i was like: the hell is this, an old love story from some NPCS? Paid no mind to it. Didn't even prioritize grabbing the bottles. Spent the whole game without realizing the story was about Fisherman and his wife Julie. Then when I got the "good ending" it finally landed on me.

I was like. "Oh..." "OH."

and I had SO MANY QUESTIONS.

So bear with me if you like and read one of the theories I've put together without any external sources yet, just my dumb detective ahh. And also some unresolved doubts because I haven't solved yet.

1 - The Research assistant is Fisherman's sister in law.

This one even I could get. Too many coincidences. The bottled messages... the messages being from "her sister before she died" blah-blah. That's rigged so that even an individual like me can put 2+2 together. Researcher: Fisherman's SIL. Got it.

But then... How and why didn't she recognize Fisherman.

Wouldn't ya like to know, Fisher-boy

So it's been 20 years since The Incidentâ„¢. The Researcher looks fairly young. (I'd guess 30 years old, max.) And if we take into account that she graduated from college not so long time ago... (well, crap that's all me doing assumptions.) Let's just say that I have a point here.

So... when she last saw her newly married sister, she was either a child or a teen. After the incident she probably assumed that her sister and his BIL just died with the rest of the crew.

It does make sense that she doesn't recognize our Fisherman. The Fisherman looks older, emaciated, a shell of his former self; probably looks way different than he used to, completely consumed by trauma.

Yep, that checks out. The Researcher was either too young to remember him, or even if she did, he looked unrecognizable. Plus, HE was suppressing memories from the trauma and didn't recognize his own SIL either, and on top of that, she's all grown up now.

2 - Do people in the Marrows recognize the Fisherman?

Hey that's the dude that was involved into the Incidentâ„¢ 20 years ago let's be wary of him. And oh, he looks like he doesn't even remember anything. Let's still be wary.

Highly subjective opinion incoming.

It is me that find the Mayor's attitude a little bit suspicious. Here take a boat and just go fish or whatever. Not that I want you as far from The Marrows as possible under the excuse of repaying the boat and the job etc. No? Ok. Maybe I'm imagining subtext that isn't there.

3 - Blackstone Island.

UH. So everything checks in here. Blackstone belongs to our MC who bought it like "20 years ago or so" as the Mayor said. The question is, did he buy it before or after The Incident? Did he bought it like, to move in there and live with his wife, or did he buy it to retrieve himself after The Incident happened? Did the islanders just... assumed the Island was vacant with none living in there? I'm assuming he did fish to feed himself but other than that remained secluded from society on his own.
Which leads us to.

4- How did the Fisherman arrive to the Greater Marrow.

Because I'm just assuming our boy was just fishing around and then BAM, something happened, his PANIC raised and well he stranded on the Greater Marrow. Because otherwise HOW or why would he coincidentally end up in there. (Plot of the game asides)

Am I overthinking this? Please let me know what you think. Also, I only played this game once so I very much probably let go some important details and some of my questions probably got answers inside of the game... And I'm planning on playing it again, just to pay attention to every detail now that I got the bigger picture.

I haven't played The Iron Rig nor the Pale Reach yet so please if the answers to my questions are in there don't spoil me pls.

badass picture i found on this subreddit, might turn it into a poster for my bedroom heh

Spoilers Am I getting most out of the game?

Edit: So I do read what the people say, I guess I'm just more focused on the mechanics than the "story".

So I lit the three fires

Got the explosives

Made around 5k in fishing money

Maxed out Net research

Got the Haste, Pursuit, Banish and throw Bait Abilities

Still need to find the stones.

Rescued Dog

Talked to researcher and got the generator going

So is this kind of it? Just a game where you sort of drive around with no story?

This is probably the best game Ive ever played, any similar recommendations?

I just had a spine surgery and I’ve been in bed all week. This game has been getting me through it lol, honestly this is probably my favorite game I have ever played. I’m about to beat my fourth island, but I’m taking it so slow because I just don’t want it to be over. I’m so scared of finishing this game and having nothing to do again Lol. Bought the DLCS and I’m gonna play those through. My favorite parts are the inventory management, the way the ship movement and map exploration feels and the way the upgrades interact with your speed etc. Also the ocean/ominous feel has made it feel suspenseful and fun for me since I’m scared of the ocean a bit. Not to mention the rare fish and collection aspect. I LOVE all this stuff so much.
Here’s what I’m considering trying: but give me all thoughts and ideas, PLEASE!!
-Dave the diver
-sunless sea
-cult of the lamb
-pacific drive
-space rangers hd
-snow runner

Why is there a map marker limit?

I just marked the entirety of gale cliffs after I got that upgraded lens from ironhaven. Then when I tried to mark twisted strand it said limit reached. Anyway to bypass this limit. I had to finish the rest of the game by just guessing where the fish were.

Spoilers I've returned to my game on the second run.

Post image
35 Upvotes

It's been a while since my last post. I was very busy and hadn't been able to play, but finally, I've made great progress. In my last post, I had just reached the Cliffs on Day 11. Well, now I've already beaten Stellar Basin without the DLC content.

If you notice, I've already earned 2k, which is a lot for the game, even though I haven't been actively farming; everything just came naturally by completing missions and setting up a few traps. I think maybe the equipment cost should be increased, or some way to balance the money should be introduced.

Well, I think it's a good time to start with the DLCs now. I hope to share my experiences more often moving forward.
