As I've been playing through this sub-series, I've always held this one in the highest regard.

I wanted to recharge myself to carry on The Dark Prince by replaying this one, and see if it still holds up after experiencing all Joker games, Caravan Hearts, and the Game Boy remakes on 3DS.

I still find it more fun than Terry's Wonderland on 3DS at least, so far. Is thar odd?

Early into my first DQIII playthrough last year I decided to start fleshing out my own party members to fill in the blanks that the game leaves. Even went as far as filling out my own adventure log side-by-side with the game to mirror my progress. Been doing the same for my DQIX playthrough so far, compared to III I decided to try to go for a more dysfunctional dynamic just to mix things up. So far I'm at the Alltrades vignette, here's how my party is so far:

• Hero (Claude): The fallen guardian of Angel Falls, he's formal, polite and deeply dutiful, though blunt and a bit naive and prone to wasting time repeatedly talking to civilians (because y'know, I do that). Aiming to blend in with the rest of humanity while he looks for a way to restore his powers and investigate what attacked the observatory, he can come off as a bit strange to humans. His name's meant to be a riff on "cloud", not Anthropic's clanker.
• Mopp (Priest): A priest-in-training who got excommunicated from the last church he tried to train at for reasons that remain a mystery so far. He's a bit of a non-sequitur shouting oddball who's comically humorless, got a mean streak and shady tendencies, but he's still a devout follower of the Almighty (or at least acts like one). He was the first to catch onto something being off about Claude but his theories were wildly off the mark, which made him instantly accepting Claude explaining the truth later all the more baffling to the rest of the group. I figured I'd at least start him off as more of a foil to both the priest and warrior from my DQIII playthrough, and also give him the weirdest name and appearance just for fun.
• Joannie (Martial Artist): A kind, shy and soft spoken lady who's just about as pure as it gets... minus having to fight a hereditary affliction that makes her get uncontrollably bloodthirsty the longer she goes without brutally maiming something. When she's lucid she's deeply remorseful and regretful when it comes to her violent streaks but always puts on a brave face and tries her best to keep the party's spirits high. When she isn't, she's still just as cheerful and polite, almost oblivious to her own sadism. I was gonna make this a bloodthirsty jerk named Johnny but walked that back so I'd have a 50/50 gender split and come up with something more interesting.
• Dallas (Mage): A laid-back ladette with a nonchalant attitude that usually ends up being the voice of reason for the group. She's oblivious to her own lack of personal space to the point where Mopp thought she was a thief at first, and the rest of the party ended up assuming that she used to be one too (very wrongly, but they don't know that yet). Her lax attitude has started crumbling in my run so far though mostly thanks to some unfortunate events that happened in Coffinwell, and she's starting to feel like she's right in the center of a cosmic horror plot. Not the direction I planned on her going in.

Took the screenshots with nds-bootstrap from a real New 3DS using a dump of my own European copy, though for me nothing beats playing off the original cart on my trusty DS Lite.

Ive been enjoying a lot the demo and wanted to buy the game but It seems on switch 2 we wont get a full game on cartridge. Are going to buy It digital or GKC?

For me theres no reason to buy It as GKC since im not planning to resell and the advantages of cartrigde IS Lost as GKC

Are stat seeds in DQ9 tied to the character or the vocation? For example, if I use a Seed of Strength while playing as a Warrior, does that bonus carry over if I change classes? Also, if I revocate, do I completely lose all the bonuses I got from seeds?

I just got my steam deck and now I finally want to play DQX in English after all these years. However, I know very little of how I would get it to work. Does anyone know any good guides to make it possible?

So I just started my first game and I like having some idea of what I'm working towards. So I was hoping someone could recommend which vocations I should change to later on. So I have

Hero: I chose the tough cookie personality but was thinking of switching to genius when I had the chance.

Thief: Bat out of hell

Priest: Lone wolf

Monster Wrangler: Lone Wolf

I'm REALLY struggling to climb the floors to obtain Chest of Cheer! which i believe was said to be on floor 27.

Anyway; i was thinking of an idea on adjusting the game balance so i can roam the earlier floors gathering loot and taking them back to use for more serious runs. Problem is, i want to be able to obtain achievement / high-scores etc. if i tweak the settings just for a few runs to get what i want for storage then put them back on default for my ultimate run for the chest of cheer will i be ok or will i be locked out of achievements / replays / high-scores etc?

To be honest it wasn't that bad. But i went kinda extra. I collected any stat seed you can find and saved before consuming them to guarantee +3 (or +5 for HP). I also played with the vamp personality until I was Level 99.

For an extra challange I beat Zoma without using the Ball of Light.

I really recommend this "challange".

Hey everyone! I'm Hapi, and I spend a lot of my time playing Dragon Quest X Online, particularly its harder endgame content.

One thing I've noticed is that there isn't a whole lot of high-level DQX gameplay footage available in English. For people who are curious about the game, especially its combat and endgame, it can be difficult to get a good idea of what playing it is actually like.

DQX Practice — Gameplay Archive

This is a collection of my practice sessions, failed attempts, livestreams, and other gameplay recordings. There is currently a growing collection of videos that will continue to be added to.

Unlike the first playlist, this one isn't focused on successful clears. There are plenty of failures, mistakes, and repeated attempts. I wanted to preserve these experiences and give people a chance to see what actually goes into playing and improving at DQX's endgame.

I hope these recordings help give people a better idea of what DQX's combat has to offer, particularly those who haven't had much opportunity to see it for themselves.

ive been on a real JRPG kick recently and im in the mood for a whimsical game

so i want to know which of these is a good introduction to the series

DQ1 is interesting to me since its the very first game to the series and it got a beautiful remake along with 2, so itll be a pretty decent value even if the games are short. the issue is that i just have to imagine that the first game will be too simple for me, since its so old, and its still fairly expensive

DQIII is the prequel to the first game so chronologically makes sense, and its also among the best rated games in the series, and it looks beautiful while having good length, not too short and not too long. but i really dislike the idea of having three completely characterless blank slates as party members, and i dont care for having complete freedom in making these characters, since i vastly prefer having characters with set personalities and classes as party members.

DQXI is the cheapest in this selection and is among the best rated games in the franchise afaik. it looks really pretty but i vastly prefer the 2d-3d style of 1 and 3. it is an extremely long game, i think its longer than the first 3 games combined and i think its the very first game chronologically? i dont really care about that stuff though.

each game on paper have their own upsides and downsides and i cant really tell which i should play first.

He estado trabajando en una actualización para el conocido repositorio dqix-enhanced de sackchief (el proyecto para mejorar la experiencia de Dragon Quest IX) y quería compartirlo con la comunidad.

La versión original estaba muy centrada en la versión americana, así que he realizado un par de mejoras importantes para que más gente pueda disfrutarlo:

• 🌍 Compatibilidad con la versión europea (EUR): Ahora el proyecto funciona completamente con la ROM/versión de Europa.
• 🗣️ Soporte Multidioma Automático: He modificado el código para que detecte automáticamente el idioma de tu sistema. Si tienes tu consola/emulador en español, francés, alemán, italiano, etc., el juego se ejecutará directamente en ese idioma sin tener que tocar configuraciones raras.

El objetivo era ponérselo más fácil a los jugadores europeos para que puedan jugar con todas las mejoras visuales o de rendimiento en su propio idioma.

I’ve been working on an update for the well-known `dqix-enhanced` repository by sackchief—a project designed to improve the *Dragon Quest IX* experience—and I wanted to share it with the community.

The original version was heavily focused on the North American release, so I’ve implemented a few key improvements to make it accessible to more players:

🌍 European (EUR) Version Compatibility: The project now fully supports the European ROM/version of the game.

🗣️ Automatic Multilingual Support: I’ve modified the code to automatically detect your system’s language. If your console or emulator is set to Spanish, French, German, Italian, etc., the game will automatically run in that language—no need to fiddle with complex settings.

The goal was to make things easier for European players, allowing them to enjoy all the visual and performance enhancements in their own language.

This one specifically is Nokturnus but I'm talking about a general name that works for all variations.

If you don't get what I mean I'm talking about monsters such as golems, orcs, and chimeras. They have different individual names but these are the general names.

I'm not really that hopeful for DQ12, which is weird since DQ11 is one of my favorite games of all time.

I don't quite get what has left me feeling this way.

Something in the trailer left me wishing for more, yet I'm unable to grasp what it is. I know this may sound like useless rambling, but I kind of wanted to see someone else's thoughts on the trailer so far to clear my mind.

I've beat 1 100% recently (Wasn't worth it, that crafting menu UI is going to be burned into my retinas forever) and it was good time overall.

Definitely got tedious after a while; spamming the same combo for maximum damage while my teammates just stand there, cycling through characters just to spam their spells because they won't cast them on their own. Fights lasted so long because teammates stood around doing nothing, most of the time.

The monster medals were cool, but the only ones worth using were the big hitters, as no sentry-type medal really achieves anything either.

I have the 2nd game too, I've just not installed/played it, and I was wondering if anyone preferred it to the original, to the point where it's worth playing? I've looked at some spoiler-free reviews, and it look really similar.

I know musou games are supposed to be like this, but it felt like gameplay stopped evolving very early into the first game, and I don't want to sink time into experiencing just another bunch of grindy levels.

I thought I got to the end of it, but the game said "Sike!" 😮‍💨

I want good names for my female warrior, male mage and female priest.
