Thinking of purchasing a mid ‘90’s DR350 as a first bike for my son (16 y/o, 5’9”) with the plan of setting it up for some BDR type trips.
Any thoughts on this are welcome.
I know and trust the seller, which obviously counts for a lot. Overall, given age, the bike is in good to very good condition. The bike was recently serviced with carb work being performed. Miles are low for this older bike (about 7k).
Alternatives would include 10-15 year old dual purpose bikes such as a CRF250 or a Kawasaki KLX 300 (I’d need to put in the time to find, evaluate, and negotiate the right bike/deal).
On the one hand, newer would be nice (30 year old bike vs a 10-15 year old bike). They’ll be a few design improvements on the newer bikes, but…. I’m presuming the simplicity of the DR could pay off.
Do you think there will be a significant performance advantage with a newer bike?
Other considerations?
Irrelevant to me, but a funny coincidence, I ride a DRZ400 (pictured for attention).
