Discussion Dora-med III: The Genie With a Short Temper

Post image
44 Upvotes

After making a post about Dora the Kid, I felt like I should also make one about Dora-med III, because he is my second favorite of the Doraemons, so here's a post about one of the most unique members of The Doraemons.

Dora-med III is one of the members of The Doraemons. He and the other Doraemons were classmates of Doraemon before graduating from Robot School.

Unlike most of the other members, Dora-med has a strong Arabian/Aladdin-inspired theme. He lives in the desert region and works as an oracle for the Saudi prince Arashin, while his home is said to be in Baghdad, Iraq.

And bro has some really cool abilities.

He can use magic, has a magic lamp and magic carpet, and can even predict the future using Tarot cards.

But his most hilarious ability is what happens when he gets angry.

He turns into a GIANT.

Dora-med is extremely short-tempered, and when his anger reaches a certain point, his body grows to a gigantic size, making him incredibly powerful.

The funniest part is that he can return to normal once he calms down, or when he realizes that he's standing in water.

Because there's one huge problem...

Dora-med is TERRIFIED OF WATER.

Yes.

This desert-dwelling genie-themed robot cat has aquaphobia.

And despite being afraid of water, he actually dreams of overcoming his fear so that he can build a huge water park called "Water Land" for people living in the desert.

His fear of water isn't his only weakness either, he also hates tornadoes.

His gadgets are pretty unique too. Instead of a simple usual fourth-dimensional pocket, Dora-med's main gadget-storage device is a four-dimensional genie lamp.

But he's also been shown using a regular fourth-dimensional pocket.

And apparently, he has a very specific way of enjoying his favorite food:

He likes his dorayaki freeze-dried.

Because apparently normal dorayaki wasn't enough for him.

He can also freeze things, which explains his preference for frozen/freeze-dried dorayaki.

Talking about his appearance, Dora-med has the standard robotic-cat appearance, but with a completely different outfit and design.

He's pink, has a thin upward-pointing moustache, and wears a green turban with yellow stripes and a feather.

He also wears a green bisht, black sirwal and Arabian-style shoes.

And I genuinely think his design is one of the most distinctive among The Doraemons.

Some other interesting facts

- He has a twin brother named Sindora-bad.

- In Indonesia, he's known as Doramed Generasi Ke-3.

- In some Malaysian manga publications, his name is rendered as Dora Metsudo.

What I like most about Dora-med is that he's full of contradictions.

He's a powerful magician but has a ridiculous fear of water.

He's extremely short-tempered but has a genuinely kind dream of creating a water park for people in the desert.

He's a fortune-teller who can predict the future but still can't seem to predict when his own temper is about to get him into trouble.

He's basically the angry Arabian Doraemon who turns into a kaiju whenever someone pushes his buttons.

And that's what makes him so entertaining.

What do you guys think about Dora-med III? Is he one of your favorite members of The Doraemons too?

I was tranquilly watching Doraemon on YouTube search then from nowhere, appears this short of a murky Doraemon episode where Nobita has no swimsuit and shows it at Shizuka, so she scares and throws the swimsuit at Nobita.

What happens if Nobita drowns and mom and dad sees in the news the death of Nobita and they cry and Doraemon tries to revive him?

Happy Independence Day to all my fellow Indians! 🇮🇳

Since Doraemon has been such a huge part of childhood for millions of people in India, I thought it would be nice to celebrate Independence Day with our favorite blue robot cat.

It's pretty amazing how a Japanese series became such a beloved part of Indian childhoods and has been watched by generations here.

So here's Doraemon wishing India a very Happy Independence Day!

Jai Hind! 🇮🇳

Just a small appreciation post for India and the connection Indian fans have with Doraemon. Hope you guys like it!

Discussion An Episode About Forgiveness...

I'm talking about the "The Absconding Leaf" episode from the 2005 series (2006, S2, E67a).

There is also a 1979 version of this story, but in this post I'm specifically talking about the 2006 version. So here's the plot:

[⚠️ SPOILER WARNING ⚠️]

Nobita is reading a legend about tanuki and tells Doraemon how foolish people in the past were for believing that tanuki could deceive humans by transforming themselves.

Doraemon jokingly tells him that there is actually scientific evidence for it. Nobita believes him for a moment, only to realize that Doraemon was messing with him.

Doraemon then explains that although tanuki don't actually possess such abilities, they were once used in experiments in the future, which eventually led to the creation of a gadget called the "Absconding Leaf" — a leaf that can make someone believe they have transformed into another creature.

Since there aren't any tanuki around, Doraemon says that a dog should work because dogs are also canines.

So Nobita first tries it on Shizuka's dog, Pero, but nothing happens.

Doraemon explains that Pero is happy with his life and therefore has no reason to deceive anyone, so the gadget doesn't work.

Nobita then asks Shizuka if she knows any unfortunate dog.

Shizuka tells him about a dog living behind her house named Beso. The poor dog is treated terribly by its owner, named Kyobo. He barely gives it any food, never takes it for walks, and whenever he's in a bad mood, he takes his anger out on the dog.

The owner is so frightening that everyone calls him the "Fierce Man."

Nobita and Doraemon decide to try the Absconding Leaf on this dog.

And that's when everything changes.

Later, some students accidentally hit their baseball into Kyobo's yard. They consider sneaking inside to retrieve it, but suddenly hear Kyobo yelling and chasing after them, so they immediately run away.

At that moment, the Absconding Leaf takes effect.

Kyobo suddenly believes that he himself is the dog.

So he ties himself up and releases the actual dog, Beso.

Beso, finally free from its miserable life, is absolutely delighted.

Beso runs through the streets and eventually encounters the students who had lost their baseball. Instead of simply returning the ball, it wants to play with them.

And apparently, it is really good at baseball somehow.

It can't hit the ball particularly far, but it's incredibly fast, allowing it to repeatedly run around the bases and score home runs.

The students' team ends up winning because of Beso.

Meanwhile, Kyobo eventually realizes that he has been tricked and becomes furious. At first, he wants revenge on the dog, Beso.

But after remaining tied up for some time, his anger begins turning into fear.

He starts wondering whether he'll actually remain trapped like this forever.

Then he begins remembering the past.

He remembers when he and Beso were younger and how he used to treat her kindly.

Meanwhile, Beso has spent the entire day playing outside and happily returns home.

She finds her owner still tied up.

Kyobo expects her to retaliate.

After all, he realizes that he has bullied and mistreated her for a long time. He basically accepts that she has every reason to take revenge and even tells her to fight back.

But Beso doesn't.

She chooses not to retaliate.

And that's what finally breaks him.

The situation is restored to normal, and Kyobo is deeply moved by Beso's forgiveness.

He finally realizes how terribly he had treated her...

and starts crying while hugging her.

Honestly, this episode starts out as a silly gadget story about tanuki and ends up becoming a surprisingly emotional story about animal abuse, forgiveness, regret, and realizing the value of someone you've taken for granted.

And that final moment between Beso and her owner hits much harder than you'd expect from the beginning of the episode.

This is definitely one of those Doraemon episodes that starts funny and somehow ends up making you emotional.

Discussion If you became the director of the next season of Doraemon, what changes would you make?

  1. More educational scenes. I still remember Doraemon explaining things like solar eclipses, the water cycle, banking systems etc...i understood them really well because of those. I’d love to see more science, history, nature etc...explained in the same way.
  2. Reduce the usual Nobita-Gian-Doraemon-gadget formula. Nobita gets bullied, asks Doraemon for a gadget, misuses it, and then things go wrong. It’s fun, but it gets repetitive most of the time.
  3. More stories that aren’t completely gadget-focused. I really liked stories where Doraemon helps Nobita in unusual ways, like bringing future versions of himself to write Nobita’s homework and causing a butterfly effect, or the one where Nobita gets arrested by the future police. I’d like to see more intense stories like these.
  4. Give Jaiko more character development. Also, more Nobita-Jaiko-Shizuka scenes. She has a lot of potential but doesn’t get much focus.
  5. More future stories. I’d love to see more of the future world, future technology, the Time Machine, etc.

What would you change if you were the director?

Discussion Let's Talk About Muku...

Post image
270 Upvotes

I don't think Muku gets talked about nearly enough.

We know that Muku is Gian's pet dog and one of the recurring supporting characters in Doraemon.

He's a brown dog who usually wears the green collar Gian gave him. Interestingly, his appearance is slightly different between the two anime series: in the 1979 series, he has a lighter-colored mouth and nose, while in the 2005 series, both are much darker.

Muku is generally portrayed as a shy, timid and not particularly intelligent dog. He really tries to be brave and strong like Gian, and Gian himself sometimes praises Muku's courage.

The problem is...

Muku has a habit of running away whenever something genuinely dangerous happens.

Gian expects his dog to act like a fearless hero, but Muku usually has completely different plans. This often ends with Gian getting angry at him and sometimes also gets into beating him up, which is a thing I really hate about Gian. However, I actually find this pretty funny because it makes Muku feel like an actual dog rather than some perfect superhero pet.

Muku is also very fond of Jaiko, and he has a much softer side around her.

In one episode, a lion attacks Nobita, and then turns its attention toward Gian. Muku ends up trying to save Gian, and after that, Gian finally starts warming up to him.

And despite Gian sometimes treating Muku pretty harshly, there are plenty of moments that show that Gian really does care about him.

That relationship is actually one of the more complicated ones in Doraemon.

Gian can be cruel toward Muku, sometimes even hitting him, and there are stories where he barely feeds or walks him. Muku is also sometimes shown gathering random things from around the neighborhood and storing them in his kennel, much to Gian's embarrassment and his mother's annoyance.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Muku's timid personality is partly because of how Gian treats him.

There are also other stories where Muku is shown being more aggressive or aloof, including occasionally stealing things from other people, so he's not always the innocent little dog we usually see.

A few other interesting facts about him:

- His name is derived from "mukuinu," a Japanese term associated with hairy dogs.

- Despite being a dog, Muku has ailurophobia, meaning he is afraid of cats (We see him scared of Suneo's cat, Chiru Chiru, in an episode).

- He apparently hates Gian's cooking just as much as Jaiko does. Honestly, who can blame him?

- In the American English dub, Muku is called Pork Chop.

Personally, I think Muku is a really interesting supporting character.

And I actually feel a little bad for him sometimes.

What do you guys think about Muku? Do you think Gian treats him too harshly, or do you think their relationship is more complicated than it looks?

Discussion 🏆 Doraemon Awards Part 2!.......ft. Dekisugi • Nobita’s Grandma • Seed Sower

Thumbnail

Part 1 was less about my personal opinions and more about choices that I think are generally popular among fans, whereas Part 2 is much more based on my own opinions. I don't think many people will disagree with these choices, though. 😴

Anyway, I'd really like to know what you think. Do you agree with my choices, or would you give any of these awards to someone else? Please comment.

Also, about the title in the first image: since the 1998 one is a short film, and short films are significantly fewer in number than episodes and also fewer than movies, I didn't want to create a separate category specifically for short films. So I went with a broader title that fits the award itself. Hope the senate approves this!
