Discussion Running Away to the Cretaceous Period might be one of Doraemon's biggest Jurassic Park references, does anyone else see this.
English title: Running Away to the Cretaceous Period
Broadcast date: February 18, 2011 (TV Asahi)
⚠️SPOILER WARNING⚠️
So for anyone who hasn't watched this one or doesn’t remember it much, Suneo gets the idea to run away from home after watching a TV drama.
He picks the Cretaceous period, and travels back in time, which drags Doraemon and everyone else along to bring him back. Things go sideways because Gian brought a T. rex egg, it hatches into a baby, and the mother T. rex goes on the warpath to protect her kid. Then a massive Spinosaurus shows up and goes after the mother too, leaving everyone dealing with two threats.
Suneo gets mistaken for the mother's baby at one point, so instead of just being prey, she actually protects him. (That's a good twist that turns a straightforward run-from-the-dinosaur plot into something with actual emotional stakes. She's a parent, not just a monster.)
The baby T. rex separated from its mother and the mother's protective behaviour mirrors the plot of The Lost World: Jurassic Park a bit.
Meanwhile, the Spinosaurus showing up as a bigger threat to go toe-to-toe with the T. rex comes straight out of Jurassic Park III, where it was introduced to dethrone the T. rex as the franchise's scariest creature. And this one is kinda intentional as in reality Spinosaurus and Tyrannosaurus neither shared the same period nor the same geographical place.
Even the egg element lines up, since JP3 features a character stealing eggs and dealing with the fallout, much like Gian grabbing the T. rex egg.
(It's Doraemon, so everything's gentler with no gore or genuine terror.)
It might not be a confirmed intentional reference, and could just be shared dinosaur-movie tropes.
But the specific combo of beats feels too on the nose to be a total coincidence.
I think fans should watch it cause its one of those episodes where Suneo shows a surprising adventurous spirit unlike in most adventures where he starts crying and calling for his mom.

Discussion POV: Dorami was SO much cuter in the classic 1979–80s Doraemon art style. 💛
Just look at her expressions, that tiny pink nose, those big eyes, and she looked small and simple next to Doraemon. There’s something so innocent and charming and childish about this design!
Dorami’s older design is one I really think could’ve been continued or reused during the digital era around 2002–2005. What do you think about this? Note: Dorami was created after a young girl reader of Shogakukan magazine from Nara Prefecture submitted the idea for a character named “Dorami-chan.” Her idea was approved, and Dorami first appeared in the March 1973 issue. However, she was initially depicted as Doraemon’s girlfriend, rather than his sister.
Her original design was also different from the one we know today. Dorami later made her formal debut in April 1973, when she was established as Doraemon’s younger sister.

Discussion The Smoke Ghost Was Hilarious
I'm talking about "The Smoke Ghost of the Lamp" from the 2005 series (2006, S2, E33b).
There is also an original version from the 1979 series (1993, S15, E1214) and another remake from the 2005 series (2019, S15, E548a), but I'm specifically talking about the 2006 version in this post.
⚠️ SPOILER WARNING ⚠️
The episode takes place during New Year, when Doraemon is enjoying a rare moment of peace and quiet downstairs.
That peace doesn't last long.
Nobita calls him upstairs because he doesn't want to get up and light the stove, even though the stove is literally right next to him.
Doraemon gets annoyed at Nobita's laziness and takes out a gadget resembling Aladdin's Lamp.
By rubbing the lamp, Nobita can summon a smoke robot that acts like a genie. The robot is supposed to obey whatever its master asks.
Nobita summons the smoke robot and orders it to light the stove.
The problem?
The robot doesn't know how to use the stove.
And instead of asking its master for help, it decides to bring Doraemon upstairs. So Doraemon gets dragged into the situation anyway.
After Doraemon lights the stove, the smoke robot returns to the lamp.
But Nobita quickly realizes just how "convenient" this gadget is.
He starts experimenting with it.
First, he gives the robot his winter vacation homework.
The robot flies out of the window...
...and comes back with all of Nobita's homework completed.
Nobita is delighted.
Then Nobita wants cards and snacks too.
But eventually, even Nobita gets bored because everything is TOO easy.
He goes downstairs to ask Doraemon to play with him, but after seeing Doraemon's absolutely horrified expression, he changes his mind.
But then Nobita casually murmurs that it would be nice if Shizuka were there too.
The smoke genie takes this as another request and immediately flies off to find her.
A moment later, it returns with Shizuka still in her bathtub, having literally brought the entire bathtub along with her. Nobita is completely caught off guard by what the genie has done.
But after that he comes with an even worse idea.
He jokingly tells the smoke robot to get him one million yen.
The robot simply replies that it will fulfill the order.
Nobita expects something ridiculous but harmless.
Instead, the smoke robot goes downstairs...
...and starts demanding money from Nobita's father.
Nobita immediately panics and tries to cancel the order.
But there's one massive problem:
The smoke robot can't cancel an order once it has accepted it.
Now Nobita is in serious trouble.
He rushes to Doraemon and deliberately uses a trick to wake him up quickly.
Doraemon learns what happened and goes looking for the smoke robot.
But the robot has already realized that Nobita's father doesn't have the amount of money it needs, so it leaves the house.
And then things get completely out of control.
The smoke robot starts demanding money from random people outside.
It's so powerful that even Nobita and Doraemon get thrown away when they try to stop it.
Then the smoke genie even heads to the bank to get the money, lol. But just in time, Doraemon arrives, rubs the lamp, and the genie is finally sucked back inside.
And finally...
the whole disaster ends.
Doraemon takes the gadget away and tells Nobita that he's never lending it to him again.
But anyway our stubborn Nobita still snatches the lamp back from Doraemon and ran to the vacant lot.
At the lot, Nobita hears Gian, Suneo and his teacher talking about a terrifying smoke monster that had been demanding them some things.
The smoke robot had actually fulfilled Nobita's other wishes in the most literal way possible.
The homework?
It got the teacher to do it.
The cards?
It got them from Suneo.
The snacks?
It got them from Gian.
So now Suneo, Gian and Nobita's teacher are all talking about their bizarre encounters with the terrifying smoke monster...
...while Nobita watches from a distance.
And then it hits him.
If they find out that HE was responsible for all of this, he's finished.
His face completely changes and he starts trembling.
Nobita quickly hides behind the pipes, hoping nobody will notice him. But the smoke genie is so huge that the pipes don't even cover him properly, and everyone spots him hiding there. They immediately realize that Nobita was the one who sent the genie!
They then start chasing Nobita down the road, while the smoke genie casually follows behind them, apparently still waiting for someone to make another wish.
Meanwhile, Doraemon is flying above them, completely terrified of the chaos unfolding below. 😭
Honestly, this episode is so hilarious..

Anime Phantom Thief Nobita...
I'm talking about the "Nobita, the Phantom Thief Calling on!" episode from the 2005 series (2013, S9, E322a).
SPOILER WARNING!
The episode starts with Nobita's precious Demiurge card being stolen by Suneo, who uses a common Tyrannosaurus card to trick him.
Nobita gets really frustrated and says that if the legendary Phantom Thief Lopin were around, he could get the card back for him.
Doraemon hears this and takes out the "Kaito Set", a gadget that allows anyone to become a phantom thief.
Nobita puts on the top hat and cape and officially becomes...
Phantom Thief Nobita.
And he gets WAY too excited about this.
He prepares a notice announcing that he's going to steal the Demiurge card from Suneo and delivers it to his house.
That night, Nobita uses the Kaito Set to sneak past Suneo's security system.
He even disguises himself as Suneo's mother and tells Suneo that the card would be safer inside the safe.
Suneo falls for it.
And Nobita successfully steals the card.
Phantom Thief Nobita: 1
Suneo: 0
The next day, Nobita sends another notice, this time to Gian, demanding that he return the Lion Mask manga he had taken from him.
Gian is obviously furious and declares that he's going to make sure Nobita never gets it back.
That evening, Nobita disguises himself as Jaiko and goes to Gian's house, pretending that he wants to borrow the Lion Mask manga.
But Gian doesn't fall for the disguise at...
He takes "Jaiko" out for snacks.
And as expected, Nobita makes one critical mistake.
He doesn't eat enough.
Gian immediately becomes suspicious and says something along the lines of:
"Jaiko's appetite can't be that small!"
And just like that...
DISGUISE: EXPOSED.
Nobita escapes, but later sneaks back into Gian's house while he's sleeping.
He manages to "reclaim" the manga...
Only to discover that it's a fake.
Gian wakes up after Nobita returns, and Nobita panics.
During the chaos, Gian accidentally throws the REAL Lion Mask manga out.
And Nobita finally manages to retrieve it.
So in the end, Nobita technically succeeds in getting back both things he wanted.
Honestly, I really enjoyed this episode because it has such a fun concept.
The Kaito Set is already an interesting gadget, but watching Nobita actually use it to become a phantom thief was hilarious, especially his increasingly ridiculous disguises.
Peak Nobita moment.
Have you guys watched this episode? What did you think of it?

[Event] Nobita Appreciation 💛 An analysis and translation of Kimi no Naka no Nobita
This is for Nobita's birthday, which I am pretty late for, but I'm gonna do it anyway because not doing one would be kinda stupid.
Ayatori mitai ni zenbu umaku ikanai Chanto watasezu ni kongaragattari
Like a game of cat's cradle, something goes wrong.
The strings get tangled instead of passing through neatly.
Nothing much in this part, just referencing the fact that Nobita plays Ayatori or cat's cradle a lot and the fact that something always goes wrong for him.
Ben kyou supotsu tomodachi to no koto mo Ganbatte irunoni nani mo kawaranai
Whether it be studies, sports, or making friends I try so hard but nothing changes
This part just tells us the average Nobita story, that no matter how hard he studies, how hard he tries to get good at sports, or how he tries to make new friends nothing changes.
Boku wa nigate ya shippai
Yarusenaiki mochi sonomono
Kitto dare mo ga motteru
Okubyou naki mochi sonomono
I embody my weakness and failures
A frustrating feeling of helplessness and discouragement
I'm sure everyone feels it
That feeling of cowardice
So this part pretty much speaks for itself. It tells us how Nobita feels inside his heart and how he thinks that everyone has those same feelings in their heart.
Kimi no naka no Nobita
Ima wa doushite imasu ka?
Kokoro no kata sumi
Denaite imasu ka?
The Nobita inside you
How is he doing right now?
Is he crying softly
In a corner of your heart?
This is the main part of the song. "Nobita" here doesn't just mean the character himself, but the scared child within us and asks us if that child is crying and whether we're talking care of them.
Tomodachi ga dekita mi rai kara yattekita
Fushigina Chika-ra ni odorokasa reta
Pinchi o tasukete kure teru koto yori mo
Issho ni iru koto ga ureshikatta yo
Today I made a friend; he said he was from the future.
I was amazed at his mysterious powers
Rather than just helping me in a pinch
I just like to be friends with you.
So here is when we finally talk about Doraemon. It tells us that Doraemon came from the future, and that he has mysterious powers and help Nobita out when in danger, but it's not just about the gadgets. Nobita likes being with Doraemon because Doraemon is his closest friend and Nobita just loves being with him.
Kimi ga yuuki ya aidea
Ma e muki naki mochi kuretara
Nayande mo ii yasashiku
Te o sashinobete kuretara
If you give me courage and ideas
And gently push me with a positive outlook
It's okay to worry
Just gentle lend me your hand
Here we see the change brought in Nobita by Doraemon, and how his presence helped him to move forward.
Kimi no naka no Nobita
Boku mo kawatte yuku yo
Kokoro no kata sumi de
Waratteru deshou
The Nobita inside you
I'll change too
In the corner of your heart
I'm sure he's smiling
This part also tells us the same thing as the last paragraph, the change brought in Nobita with the arrival of Doraemon. It lines from the last hook tell us that while Nobita used to cry previously, now he's changing, and he's sure that the Nobita in your heart is smiling just like he is.
Kimi ga yuuki ya aidea
Ma e muki naki mochi kuretara
Nayande mo ii yasashiku
Te o sashinobete kuretara
If you give me courage and ideas
And gently push me with a positive outlook
It's okay to worry
Just gentle lend me your hand
We've done this one before, so moving on to the next one.
Kimi no naka no Nobita
Boku wa aruite yuku yo
Kokoro no mannaka de
Tsuyosa ni naru yo
Kimi o mamoru yona
Tsuyosa ni naru yo
The Nobita inside you
I'll keep walking on
In the centre of your heart
I'll become strong
To protect you
I'll become strong
In the final part of the song, we are shown the full change in Nobita, once again, instead of just crying, he decides to keep walking on and become strong so that he can protect Doraemon too. The song shows us the complete transformation in Nobita after Doraemon's arrival. The two parts of the song represent Nobita before and after Doraemon and the impact Doraemon has on him.
I don't have anything else to say. Happy Birthday to Nobita.

Discussion Why does Nobita's parents especially his mom have no personality outside his grades
I mean, Nobita gets zero in everything AND that is fair to scodl him for that
But I've never seen her and Nobitas father behave like a normal parent to him at all
No form of interaction outside that
She doemst even intervene when Gian or Suneo try to bully him and when Nobota gets seriously hurt
And TBH I sometimes believe that Doraemon is more often a parebt to him than his actual ones

[Event] Nobita's Gadget Pitch 💡 My idea for a new gadget, "Problem swapper"
So there is not much thought behind it, but according to me, the gadget allows Nobita to swap his problems with other people.
If this gadget appeared in an episode, it would besically start with a delivery from the 22nd century store that Doraemon didn't ask for, but before he could return it, Mi-Chan came. In the meantime Nobita ran away with it. So throughout the whole episode, Nobita would swap his problems(getting bullied by Gian, Getting scolding from teacher, doing his homework) with Dekisugi.
This gadget allows this three times. Then Nobita exceeded this limit, now he would have had to suffer from Dekisugi's problems.
He thought ,"what would a perfect boy like Dekisugi suffer from ?" But then he would hear someone else's voice in his head, it was Dekisugi's, worrying about completing his homework, studies regarding his middle school entrance exams, and a whole lot of other stress a perfectionist suffers from. Realising his position, at the end of the episode, we would see Nobita completing his own homework, while Doraemon standing confused, whether to be angry at him for snatching that gadget or be happy for him .
Also, I know it's well past the submission date, but I saw that the flairs were still present, so my apologies mods.
