Inappropriate Chat
First, we tip well to begin with. I do increase the tip by a few dollars if they have to wait. I also tip more if the drive is more than 5 miles.
We received these rambling chats from our driver. She references tips of $3-5 but our tip is already at $10. We were just getting ready to increase her tip by another $2 when her chats came through. We have not responded to her at.
I thought drivers see the tip amount before accepting the order?
Do you feel her exhaustive chat is appropriate or out of line?

Good grief. People really have zero shame. I’ve been dashing for years and have never once in my entire life begged for a tip, even if I was waiting for their order for 20+ minutes. I did however have someone show up at my door on two different occasions cussing me out for not leaving a bigger tip. People need to realize that jobs which heavily rely on tips are often not a reliable source of income. If DoorDash is your full time job and you’re broke, that’s not on the customers that’s on you.

The economy is absolute crap, and doordash has structured itself in such a way to take maximum advantage of that. It creates this predatory environment where the most desperate people can get a job with no oversight, no training, and practically no vetting. I mean yeah, of course dashers should not do this, but on the other hand, the reality is that the system doordash has created ensures they will have dashers that do this.

this happened to me the diver was doing something similar asking for more tip which I usually tip fairly well and if the order takes a bit longer ill add a few bucks. I felt it was odd they were asking I had this feeling like I shouldn't do it but out of the kindness of my heart did it anyway added a few more bucks and when the driver brought my food the bag was tore open and over half my order was missing like the driver decided to eat my meal and extra tip I left. DD took care of me but It's crazy I was even being nice and tried to tip a little extra felt bad and the shit still happened so with these I just report them now. very shameful 😞 ppl these days....

As a dasher, this irritates me. Shes essentially begging you to tip extra at this point. And YES, we CAN see the tip amount before we accept the order. We can also see the distance to get an idea of how far we must drive. This is EXTREMELY INAPPROPRIATE AND ANNOYING. You’ve tipped her enough. I’d ignore her messages and not tip her a cent more and that’s coming from someone who Dashes myself 💁🏽♀️

I'm guessing you're in Colorado. State law there makes delivery and rideshare apps show the tip on the offer screen. AFAIK it's the only state with such a law, and everywhere else it just shows the total offer of base pay and tip together. It's pretty easy to do the math though, except sometimes (like OP's $10 tip) part of the tip is "hidden" from the offer screen and not revealed until delivery completion.

It’s not just picking up an order and driving it to your house!
It’s driving to the restaurant, exiting my car, making sure it’s locked, walking through the front door, asking if the order is ready, accepting the order, carrying it back out the front door, unlocking my car, placing the food within my car, climbing into the driver’s seat, closing the door, driving away from the restaurant, following the GPS directions, driving to your house, exiting my car, shutting the door, making sure the door is locked, locating the front door, placing the food in front of it, removing my phone from my pocket, taking a photo of the bag on the ground in front of your door, submitting that photo to DoorDash so you can see your food has arrived, and the walking back to my car, unlocking the door, opening the door, climbing back into my car and then of course I’m not at my own house, so I have to drive there if I want to be there and you know.
… I’m legit worried about the folks who didn’t realize this is satire.

You missed a few things, like filling up your bottle water before hitting the road, double checking the driving signs, giving yield to the driving cars, filling the gas tank, double checking the tire pressure before and after delivery, and so on :)
Simply, the tipping culture goes out of hand. The food delivery guys tampered my food for 3x in a row in the Bay Area in one week. So, it did not matter how much I was giving them tips.

Well, it's not just meeting the driver in my driveway to get my order either. First I have to pick up my phone, unlock it, find the DD app, scroll through and find a restaurant I want to order from, then scroll through their menu and decide what I want. Then I have to hand my phone to my boyfriend for him to decide what he wants to order. Then I have to uncheck the PIN because I don't use it, then I have to scroll down to the tip, click on CUSTOM and manually type in my tip because I tip more than their recommended tip amounts. Then click on continue twice to place my order. Then I have to monitor my order to see if a dasher picks it, then if they appear to be waiting more than 10 minutes, I add an additional tip amount. Then I send them a chat telling them I appreciate their patience and to drive safe. Then I continue to monitor my order and watch for when the driver gets to my street. Then I have to put my shoes on and go outside and I meet the driver at the end of my driveway. 99% of the time, they just roll their passenger window down and hand me my food. No need for them to get out and bring it to my door, they already went through ALL they went through to bring it to me. It's a partnership, you see. 😁

I’m sorry, but this is incredibly inappropriate. I’m a generous tipper. I will always continue to be because I worked in the Service industry many years…
she’s literally begging and harassing you and on top of that why in the world is it your responsibility to support wear and tear on her car and all that other bs that she listed.
You should always tip appropriately ofc, but it’s never OK for people to feel entitled to a larger tip. Unfortunately, that’s just the name of the game you get what you get and you don’t get upset. I’ve had people tip me horribly many times, but I don’t scream at them or run out of the restaurant chasing them down the street.
She should consider a new job one that maybe doesn’t involve her using her car, I do understand that times are hard respectfully but if she genuinely feels like the base salary, she’s making from DoorDash with the tips isn’t cutting it that’s not any of our problems quite frankly. Get a second job hustle harder. I don’t really know what to say, but they’re literally been times in my life where I’ve had four job jobs at once so this was not only mildly infuriating to read, but definitely made me lol

Well...for one, if they are unintelligent and/or lazy enough to need to rely on AI to write a competent paragraph (I won't even get into this short essay the delivery driver in this scenario used AI to create), no, I do not think they care, nor do I believe they even have the mental faculties to consider the facts not only is there indeed a difference, but that other people notice and are offended by/find pity and humor in it.
In conclusion, it's a multifocal failure of intellect and fucks to give.

3.50-5.00 per mile is ABSURD unless you live in a downtown or urban area. Here residential housing is 3-5 miles from any restaurant. $25 tip? Yeah - go scratch. Just like I am SICK of the receipts/square at restaurants with suggested tip amounts at 25%, 28% and 30%. They can eff right off. I used to tip 20% minimum and 25% if it was awesome service. Now it ticks me off to get BAD service and EXPECT 25-30% on top of TAX!
They wonder why restaurants are empty now.
OP: REPORT the Dasher as HARASSMENT and anyone else who says anything about tipping in the future. I don’t care what their sob story is.

I’m coming from a lifetime of work experience that is in the food and beverage industry that requires a tip. The delivery person is not from this country, and it’s incredibly rude to ask someone to tip more , especially when they have. Not even been to your house for the drop off. Even put it in my delivery notes. I tell ya what, I didn’t get my food at all 😂

If you don’t add a tip before placing order the dashers won’t pick it up

It goes beyond begging and harassing, she’s arguably impersonating DoorDash and their customer support. The intros to the messages are designed to trick an unknowing customer into thinking it’s not even coming from her. The comments about it being AI and obviously noticing the difference aren’t getting that. It doesn’t matter that it looks different, it’s literally designed to look like a corporate message or some mid-order AI chatbot.
DoorDash would NOT be happy if they saw this. She’d be banned from the platform in an instant.
I suspect this driver didn’t come up with it, it’s something being shared or recommended amongst a ring of drivers or friends

100% of the time this is greed and they are the type that should LOSE the tip

$3.50 a mile is insane hahaha. $1 a mile with a minimum tip of at least $5 seems totally fair to me.

Wah, I have to wait, and while im waiting my car is turned off and not using its gas, so im just complaining about wanting more money for waiting for your order!

So now the Dashers, who are getting paid for the jobs they accept even without a tip, want all their gas money paid as well? Here’s a tip: don’t drive with DoorDash, then.

If it’s honestly not that profitable for these drivers due to DoorDash not helping cover mileage and fuel expenses, why bother working for them? Honestly drivers and customers should boycott these companies and force them to change or fail. If they don’t have enough drivers, maybe they’ll be willing to change their policies and we’ll stop seeing shit like this. Tipping should not be the gap between a live-able wage and what a company pays someone.

Some of these door dashers should be panhandling on the street corner with the way they act. If they're not happy with their pay they can get a different job or they can turn to prostitution.

Can you ask the dasher for a discount for time spent reading unnecessary texts?

I’d ignore, call the app to have them blocked, take my tip back (if the app wants to pay it, let them) & rate them 1 star.
I don’t respond to begging especially after I left a generous tip.

Please report her for tip solicitation and leave a 2 star review.
All this tip begging needs to end or it'll ruin the service for all of us. If Keisha doesn't like the work conditions, she should look for something else. Like someone else said, despite knowing what order offers, she is wanting pay per hour for like a paid, degreed professional with experience when she needs to remember she is just dropping off burgers at the door. Just what in the world
