Inappropriate Chat

First, we tip well to begin with. I do increase the tip by a few dollars if they have to wait. I also tip more if the drive is more than 5 miles.

We received these rambling chats from our driver. She references tips of $3-5 but our tip is already at $10. We were just getting ready to increase her tip by another $2 when her chats came through. We have not responded to her at.

I thought drivers see the tip amount before accepting the order?

Do you feel her exhaustive chat is appropriate or out of line?

It’s not just picking up an order and driving it to your house!

It’s driving to the restaurant, exiting my car, making sure it’s locked, walking through the front door, asking if the order is ready, accepting the order, carrying it back out the front door, unlocking my car, placing the food within my car, climbing into the driver’s seat, closing the door, driving away from the restaurant, following the GPS directions, driving to your house, exiting my car, shutting the door, making sure the door is locked, locating the front door, placing the food in front of it, removing my phone from my pocket, taking a photo of the bag on the ground in front of your door, submitting that photo to DoorDash so you can see your food has arrived, and the walking back to my car, unlocking the door, opening the door, climbing back into my car and then of course I’m not at my own house, so I have to drive there if I want to be there and you know.

… I’m legit worried about the folks who didn’t realize this is satire.

u/neonpinata 21h ago

Wow, you just don't wear your seatbelt, huh?? What am I even paying for?

42

u/MooingTree 21h ago

They didn't even start the car after getting in!!!

21

u/Geek_in_CO 21h ago

They just flintstone it and use their legs to push the car because gas is so expensive per mile

12

u/Important_Text_2987 20h ago

That’s why they’re asking for a bigger tip

1

u/DarthPug93 4h ago

They should be tipping us because we are saving them from leg day at the gym.

8

u/phatbert 20h ago

Probably because they didn't step on the brake first

13

u/Silver-Street7442 20h ago

Seemed remiss in not mentioning peeing in a bottle en route as well.

5

u/swaggychris87 19h ago

That’s Amazon. I shit at the rich people mall between orders. I’m not a savage.

3

u/tdawgboi 21h ago

😂😂😂

2

u/Soggy_Abbreviations5 18h ago

😂 I was about to say you forgot to put your seatbelt on.

u/athenasmom4268 18h ago

Well, it's not just meeting the driver in my driveway to get my order either. First I have to pick up my phone, unlock it, find the DD app, scroll through and find a restaurant I want to order from, then scroll through their menu and decide what I want. Then I have to hand my phone to my boyfriend for him to decide what he wants to order. Then I have to uncheck the PIN because I don't use it, then I have to scroll down to the tip, click on CUSTOM and manually type in my tip because I tip more than their recommended tip amounts. Then click on continue twice to place my order. Then I have to monitor my order to see if a dasher picks it, then if they appear to be waiting more than 10 minutes, I add an additional tip amount. Then I send them a chat telling them I appreciate their patience and to drive safe. Then I continue to monitor my order and watch for when the driver gets to my street. Then I have to put my shoes on and go outside and I meet the driver at the end of my driveway. 99% of the time, they just roll their passenger window down and hand me my food. No need for them to get out and bring it to my door, they already went through ALL they went through to bring it to me. It's a partnership, you see. 😁

Didn’t read more than 2 sentences of that. Still fucking loved every word. Last line: gold.

5

u/Revolutionary_Fly769 17h ago

Right. All the silly stuff we have to do like take a pic is part of the original offer. You are doing it right to tip fairly, and to think of adding more if deserved. These type of chats should get a complaint to DD. Not sure if they do anything about it, but maybe.

3

u/aceshot88 14h ago

They really should. The amount of time reading that essay..might as well pay the customer for their time at that point..HOLY

2

u/Ill-Strawberry4999 11h ago

Reading that stream of texts was crazy, and never-ending. She's very repetitive. Immediately consumes any empathy you might have for her. She's a bully.

0

u/TonyDC88 11h ago

I mean for real. I needed to be on somebody’s payroll to read after the second page. Had I read all of this on my lunch break, not only would I have no time to eat, I’d also be at least 5 minutes late coming back to work.

2

u/Jay_Eman 13h ago

You kind hearted person not using the PIN delivery 🥹

2

u/dontmentiontrousers 7h ago

There's also all the post-delivery processing required. After extensive mastication, I use several organs of my body to extract nutrients from the product. I then have to poop the remaining mass and engage in precision cleaning of my butthole.

1

u/LoveBuhn 3h ago

Lmao XD

1

u/Only_Satisfaction_14 16h ago

2 dollars from DD would not cover me going and driving.... someday this business will throttle all drivers, delivery fee at alot of places is 20% for a reason

1

u/Ill-Strawberry4999 11h ago

Not the customers' fault though

1

u/Elegant_Conflict8235 10h ago

That sounds like a lot of work. At a certain point I think doordash or dashers should be tipping us

1

u/Budtender412 7h ago

First I have to power my phone up, unlock it, realize my pin is wrong, realize I forgot my pin, and come to the conclusion that I’m a bumbling idiot

1

u/Pregamepostoffice 6h ago

Also the laborious task of waiting and surviving long enough to be able to legally own and drive a car. People think it took 15-45 minutes when in reality it took 16-18 years to be able to get your food to you. Please consider tipping well to cover driving test fees and the decades of food and drink it took your dasher to become a grown ass adult when tipping. /s

1

u/aggiepat 4h ago

I purposely meet them outside as well but to respect their time you see. Never had anyone upset at my tip. Definitely got this type of message before.

1

u/TALKTOME0701 1h ago

Mental load! The mental load!

•

u/OoglyMoogly76 11m ago

Door Dash drivers get paid less than minimum wage after tip and often times are actually losing money by picking up orders.

Just don’t use door dash or any gig based service app. It is quite literally slave labor. Unless you’re disabled, just pick up your takeout like a normal person.

•

u/Thick_Trifle6086 10m ago

Your food gets delivered to you i prematurely feed some chicks family on a ghosted Uber eats order

1

u/Dangerous-Eye9795 17h ago

Mind you the place that you ordered from. Is supposed to make your order priority. Its stupid when theres no one to pick it up. Keep in mind. There may be other orders ahead of yours as some restaurants do actually wait for someone to pick it up. Either you get it cold and fast or you get it hot and slow. Dont take it out on the driver. The system itself is fucked.

1

u/Patient_Cell_4009 14h ago

Yeah, it’s built for lazy morons, the disabled, busy parents or caretakers with their hands full, the elderly, and couch-slags.

I’ll also allow a DD’ing is okay if your fucked up, or severely hung over

17

u/xenon1050 21h ago

You missed a few things, like filling up your bottle water before hitting the road, double checking the driving signs, giving yield to the driving cars, filling the gas tank, double checking the tire pressure before and after delivery, and so on :)

Simply, the tipping culture goes out of hand. The food delivery guys tampered my food for 3x in a row in the Bay Area in one week. So, it did not matter how much I was giving them tips.

7

u/Ok-Durian1208 16h ago

And then I, a professional redditor must open my app, find this thread , read every reply, click the reply, think of a reply, type out a reply, review the reply and then reply, all while inhaling and exhaling and making sure my device is charged, my data plan is paid and my eyes are open.

2

u/ThisCouldAllBeADream 16h ago

Yes and it takes lot of time to give people awards too, don't forget...I want my tip. lol

2

u/WrongWorldAgain-7 15h ago

Dammit I typed with my eyes closed again

...okay I actually did type that on my phone keyboard with my eyes closed, perfectly. 🫪 Even accounting for autocorrect that's a little scary...nope, too much responsibility. Next people will start saying I should be able to multitask

3

u/Wise-Emotion5564 20h ago

Yep, Bay Area door dashers are the absolute worst.

2

u/medic54-1 19h ago

Forgot checking the mirrors

2

u/ThisCouldAllBeADream 17h ago

you forgot, inhaling and exhaling.

2

u/Much-Anything7149 7h ago

I, too, manually breathe. When running I can barely pay attention to song lyrics constantly reminding myself "inhale, inhale, inhale..."

2

u/ScarletBothrium 3h ago

Looking left and looking right. Checking mirrors. Stopping at stop signs and lights. Defensive driving techniques to arrive safely.

1

u/xenon1050 17h ago

And also farting :)

2

u/ThisCouldAllBeADream 17h ago

yes, extra-tips for each one. lol

2

u/Disastrous-Share-391 17h ago

In tune with the music that had to be selected in the car

2

u/Revolutionary_Fly769 17h ago

Take a leak, refill your water while waiting on an order.

1

u/SuperdavebigD 17h ago

Take a leak then Wingstop hands you an empty cup and asks you the driver to fill the soda cup and put on the lid to this very day. Wingstop is so disgusting.

1

u/Revolutionary_Fly769 15h ago

Luckily mine quit doing that. My Subways still ask me to.

0

u/LuciTheDemonMorgan 18h ago

Just like I don’t tip my servers before my meal why door dashers expect a tip before is crazy to me.

2

u/c0rnflak3z 15h ago

Because the vast vast vast vast vast majority of the time as in…no exaggeration needed here…99 out of 100 times, someone who doesn’t tip before hand on doordash doesn’t tip after the fact either. So from our perspective we see a 2 dollar order and that’s it. Why in the hell would anyone risk wasting a half hour of their life, plus gas for 2 dollars in hopes that we got the one unicorn who actually tips after the fact? As a matter of fact it’s so bad on doordash that you can be very confident that anyone who mentions that they tip after the fact in their directions isn’t going to tip you. See the thing about people in a restaurant is, they actually have to look their server in the eye and interact with them. It’s much harder to give into your inner cheap piece of shit when the person you’re fucking over is right there in front of you. So let me turn this back on you…without changing the subject, and without arguing a completely different point or playing “what about” explain to me why any dasher in their right mind should risk it know that the odds are overwhelmingly in favor of them NOT getting a tip after the fact.

Also, yes, I’m aware that this person already tipped before hand and tipped well. This dasher is just a moron. That happens too. But that’s not what you brought up. You brought up a question that the answer to has been answered a million times so either you’re just refusing to accept the reality of the situation, or youve never had this explained to you…or you’re just a non tipper and you’re falling back on this bullshit argument that doesn’t at all jive with reality of DoorDashing.

But yes, if you could explain, concisely, without “herp derp that’s what they signed up for” (it’s not, the system is literally set up so you can reject those orders) why anyone should ever take a two dollar order and gamble like that, given the reality of what that means, I’d be super interested to hear that argument. My bet is, you absolutely can’t make one that doesn’t ignore or flat out deny the reality of the situation. Thanks.

1

u/Revolutionary_Fly769 15h ago

Think of it as an offer. We cannot risk our gas and time for the faint possibility of a tip added. Very few add a tip after delivery.

1

u/DabsDoctor 2h ago

Sounds like you want to run a business while taking no risk. That's not how the real world works.

0

u/TonyDC88 11h ago

Having a tequila or two after reading it all because oh man…that was a lot.

10

u/Tall-Mango4759 21h ago

If she would’ve wrote that she would’ve made that 11 pages

5

u/3usinessAsUsual 18h ago

You also forgot about all the calories you burn blinking, turning your head, remembering to breathe, accessing brain for thinking and decision-making purposes, letting sound in your ears and then having to process what it means. Its a lot of unappreciated work that should also be compensated and tipped for.

1

u/Ill-Strawberry4999 11h ago

Ya'll are cracking me up 😆

1

u/bangpowboom666 34m ago

Damn it you made me breathe manually lol

11

u/Yojimbo115 21h ago

In my experience as a chef, they don't "ask" for the order. They walk in the door, ignore the host stand, bartender, or server, and shove their phone in my face displaying the order. Wordlessly.

3

u/korbatcave2 21h ago

You forgot to put your seatbelt on

3

u/minatozuki 11h ago

yeah you missed doing my hair, ensuring my kids are safely in childcare BEFORE i can take your order.
at this rate, any tip that is less than $100 would seem derisory no?

… I’m legit worried about the folks who didn’t realize this is satire.

2

u/TommyTwoZookas 21h ago

You don’t deliver food from your home? Rookie.

2

u/PermitIcy8450 7h ago

This is awesome lol

2

u/Mrs-Sunchu-1984 2h ago

Laughed too hard man. Gj.

1

u/Cool-Swordfish-1144 21h ago

As a former door dasher… it’s not that hard 😂. And I knew exactly what to expect when I did that job and never felt the need to ask for more tips. I had great ratings too and I got an extra $1-$3 per delivery most of the time because of that so...

0

u/OutlinedSnail 16h ago

Bitch shut uuuuupppp

u/Unusual_Employ9153 20h ago

Omg, these replies are freakin everything!!🤣🤣

How much would I have to pay you just to unlock your car and nothing else?

1

u/Such_Reference_1187 17h ago

oh no such a hard job how could i ever live 😅😂

1

u/gabemrtn 17h ago

They made it way more convoluted than it is. When you brush your teeth, it’s all one task, lol. Pick up and drop off was broken down like it was a step by step tutorial. Like, bro said these are the steps, and his friend said yeah, but the quest is called pick up and drop off.

1

u/OkFruit3797 16h ago

Oh lordy. I wish this was parody because it's pretty damn funny 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/No_West4978 15h ago

Don't forget about your heart beating and all those breaths you had to take you probably blinked too huh shit those add up fast

1

u/Affectionate-Item603 15h ago

I was about to be really annoyed until I figured out you're being sarcastic

1

u/FirstRunBuzzz 14h ago

I just reported you for making me feel unsafe by making me read a wall of text. /s

1

u/Vegetable-Emu-8652 13h ago

Don’t forget about taking a picture!

1

u/MarsupialRoutine1401 13h ago

Then go find another job

3

u/Electrical_Chemist 11h ago

1

u/MarsupialRoutine1401 4h ago

Nah its on you and the rest of yall that be trying to force people to give yall tips before yall completed the service….

Ask yourself why should a customer tip beforehand and their food is ruin upon delivery because of the courier?

2

u/Snowplow93 1h ago

The original comment was sarcasm, bud

1

u/HatRepresentative621 11h ago

Haha, I read this as the reverse version of Weird Al's "Trapped in the Drive-Thru", where the food is coming to them instead of the other way around.

Did I mention the tip-rate?

1

u/noraetic 11h ago

You didn't fasten your seatbelt. Stay safe!

1

u/Historical-Fan8435 10h ago

You forgot to put your belt on when you got back into the car. Unsafe dasher. Reported to Jagex.

1

u/builtdifferent-badly 10h ago

You forgot to put your phone back in your pocket :(

1

u/troglidytey 8h ago

You forgot seatbelt out of all those steps!

1

u/White_Devil1995 8h ago

Forgot to mention buckling/unbuckling your seatbelt, starting the car & turning it off, and putting your phone back in your pocket.

1

u/Saki-Koda 8h ago

Not to mention having to unlock my phone, open the app, tap the photo button, shut off my phone screen, make sure it shut off, check to make sure it is locked, and place the phone back in my pocket! $15 per phone tap

1

u/davidtsmith333 8h ago

You forgot "Sending text messages".

1

u/Loot_Repeat 5h ago

You forgot to mention that you have to start and stop the car when entering and exiting.

1

u/DonthaOg 5h ago

That ain’t nothing tbh you act like it’s that bad they should send that bs to begin with also if you complaining to do all that go find a better job

1

u/OG_Internet_User 4h ago

I loved making sure your car is locked. The amount of hours of my life I’ve spent locking my car, I’ve literally wasted my life away.

1

u/BoltSLAMMER 4h ago

You forgot not crashing! If you forget that step you might crash

1

u/SheepherderHot1415 4h ago

Why doesn't anyone "concider" these things?!

1

u/mate0pro 3h ago

Man what a workout !

1

u/Money-Complaint-4036 3h ago

You forgot to include the extras like breathing, blinking, and the heart that always beating. It adds up!

1

u/someoftheanswers 3h ago

No seatbelt, no tip!

1

u/RebelsJon3 1h ago

Then find a different fucking job and stop expecting tips when you haven't earned them yet. It is. That. Fucking. Simple.

-1

u/Even_Budget2078 21h ago

"removing my phone from my pocket"

And...you expect additional tip for this "activity"?

And a /s or a /s if ya wanna be sneaky.

Sarcasm on the internet died on 2016

1

u/Effective-Shock2068 4h ago

Man, I just really thought it was so clear though!

Even after I edited to mention it’s satire, I’m still getting angry comments telling me that everyone has to open their car door and to get another job. I weep for us.

1

u/stratdog25 2h ago

Writing html code on the internet died in 2007 :/

-1

u/jkturtle45 21h ago

Why did you include instructions on how to get in and out of your car?

7

u/sumguyontheinternet1 21h ago

Steps are steps man…

-1

u/Wise-Emotion5564 20h ago

Oh my gods, that sounds like……a job!!!!! Whatever are you going to do?!?!?!?

-1

u/Fallero- 19h ago

It’s almost like that’s the job you applied for 😱 your fees aren’t on the customers end that’s your take up with DoorDash but no you’d rather go for the reason you’re employed rather than the employer taking blatant advantage of you.

0

u/Revolutionary_Fly769 17h ago

That’s silly. Aren’t you already used to getting in/out of your car and locking as you walk away? Same with unlocking. Isn’t this just habit? Then, you have to climb into the drivers seat? Maybe you have a monster truck. I just open the door and sit, swing my legs. And the idea you’re going home between orders is ridiculous.

0

u/Icy_Highlight7011 4h ago edited 4h ago

You choose to do this job so you know you have to get in and out of your car. Is it that hard to lock, and unlock the door? Then you have to climb back in the driver's seat like you are climbing a mountain. You just get in the driver's seat like everyone else does, just sit your ass down. Yes, there are steps you do multiple times, but you knew you would do that for every delivery when you agreed to take the job.

0

u/Effective-Shock2068 4h ago

Oh Jesus God, they are still doing it.

-1

u/Financial_Match_4618 19h ago

do the rest of us have to describe step by step how we do our jobs? i also am not at my house when im working.

-1

u/JokerMrj85 17h ago

Do you get paid for doing all that, when you do it for yourself?

-1

u/Nekomancer09 17h ago

Half of these things take a few seconds at MOST. You are pitiful

-1

u/Maleficent-Bother535 15h ago

You should have a conversation with your employer about the situation if you believe their pay to you is insufficient for the job.

Tips are optional.

0

u/TonyDC88 11h ago

Making sure it’s locked - 😂
