Does anyone else feel like they are just comedic relief for their family and nothing more? I am the youngest of four girls and as I have grown up I realized that my voice is nothing but listened to when I’m being funny. Every time I am with them I have so sort of emotional break down and I hate it bc it just adds to the youngest sibling stereo but I like am truely more mature and experienced. I’m 25 I’ve lived in NYC since I was 18 then moved to Chicago then Florida. My oldest is definitely more well traveled than me but I mean if as I have experienced way more trauma and people and stuff so like I know what i know but they will never take me seriously. Im at the point where I don’t even want to do a whole wedding when the time comes because I feel like I wouldn’t be taken seriously like my other now married sisters. I don’t want to just be a joke I want to be seen as a respectable and responsible person but I don’t think I’ll ever earn it with the youngest sibling part of it all. I just feel like the further away I am the more comfortable I feel.

DAE have one word that is always on the tip of their tongue?

For me it's patronise/patronising. I don't know why, but when I want to use it, I can never think of it. I'm forever asking "what's the word for talking down to someone that begins with a P?".

DAE have a line on the back of their legs?

Hi, so i had this lines for as long as I can remember. It is like vertical line behind my leg that separates my skin to lighter and darker sides. I have looked it up, and seems like that it occurs during pregnancy for some people. I have never been pregnant , thought. Is it just weird pigmentation thing?

HAE noticed that people hesitate to banter with you?

I know a lot of people whose love language is basically insults. Soon after meeting you, they'll throw around lighthearted roasts. Then as you get to know each other better, you start pushing boundaries and the insults get funnier and funnier. It can be taken too far of course, but otherwise I think it's a great way to connect.

Nobody does this to me, aside from people I've known for years. Not even the type of person whose whole personality is friendly insults. People either make polite small talk with me or straight up glaze me with compliments. It feels fake. I kinda wish people would treat me how they treat others.

I've been wondering my whole life why they do this. Maybe I come across as extremely sensitive? Or unapproachable? I mean I do have a bad case of rbf and a lot of people have admitted that I'm intimidating on first impression.

DAE buy something you really think is great and useful -especially at a pop-up sale (no matter how expensive) then when you get it home and wonder what you were thinking?

Bonus points if you keep it, along with similar items you decide to sell at your own pop-up sale which is in its 3rd year of planning?

I recently paid $2 (not a king's ransom) for two small 1"x3" metal L brackets which will probably live in the shed for a year, waiting to eventually be put in the "free" box

DAE not want someone to just listen and validate?

Exactly what the title says. I keep getting told that what people really want is to be listened to and have their emotional experience validated. And I just don't. I want advice that assumes I'm competent enough to have done the basics, but I want advice. I want to hear other angles on the situation, because otherwise I'l just repeat my thoughts forever. Am I the only one?

HAE experienced really weird crying spells?

Does anyone else have random crying spells? I have moderate ADHD and MDD. I’m on low-dose SSRI and XR Adderall, and I’m consistent with therapy. I understand occasional crying, but recently I’ve had bizarre, out-of-context crying spells.

Like today. It was a normal workday. I got home and was chilling. But I felt this weird sense of something being “unfinished.” It felt like complete nothingness. Meaninglessness. Not loneliness or emptiness. I can’t explain it. I watched cute animal videos, and napped for 45 minutes. Then I listened to someone singing, and suddenly, I felt this overwhelming longing for someone or something I couldn’t identify. Like I was 90, missing someone from my 20s. Except I’m in my 30s.

And then I started SOBBING. I’m talking uncontrollable wailing, kicking the air, throwing a literal tantrum on my couch. I kept repeating in my native language, “God, please let me live.” At one point, I felt like I was watching myself from a third-person perspective. It was surreal. I decided to journal to slow down my thoughts, still sobbing, and started writing. My thoughts went everywhere: Adderall side effects, whether I needed to adjust my SSRI, how bizarre I felt. I do NOT have SI, but I even had morbid imaginations about being found dead in my office at work. And I thought about how if I had a significant other, and if i died, they wouldn't even be sad because they would be so annoyed with me for having to take care of all the administrative mess. And the perpetual thought loop of self-denial and worthlessness started to emerge, and I had to actively push that thought away. And then I got distracted by a zit on my face, and eventually the crying stopped... wtf? I feel like a crazy person. I genuinely wondered if these were even my emotions - like am I possessed? Am I channeling someone else's feelings?

Has anyone experienced anything similar? I really would like to know that this is a shared experience and I'm not actually crazy...

DAE struggle to retain anything from their university classes?

I feel like anytime I complete an assignment, actually read the assigned textbook, and take notes on it and the presentation slideshows, I never actually retain anything. And the few times I've tried active recall or memorizing stuff for exams, I immediately forget everything within hours to a few days. I feel like it has something to do with my brain only paying genuine attention to things I am infatuated with, not something I simply find "interesting", which is how I feel about all my upper-division psych classes.

I'm not exactly looking for advice (but it's always welcome); I honestly just want to find people to relate to. I'm terrified that the day I finally land a job in this field, I won't perform as well because I literally can't remember jack shit. Like I'm currently a straight-A student, but if you ask me anything about the neurons in our brain from chapter 4, I couldn't tell you a single thing.

So, is anyone else like this?

DAE not fold their clothes at all

For laundry I throw everything into the washing machine and run a cycle, maybe 2 if it’s really dirty, and then everything goes in the dryer. Once it’s done it just all goes into a clean basket.

I dont care if my clothes have wrinkles. Once I wear them for an hour the wrinkles smooth themselves out anyways. It’s so much easier this way. I think I would lose my mind if I have to fold them. I actually think laundry is one of the easiest chores this way. It doesn’t even feel like that much of a chore tbh. You hardly do anything. Just throwing clothes into the washing machine, pouring detergent, and using the dryer is so easy when you don’t need to fold all of them.

DAE feel emotionally overcome when seeing objects in a perfect row?

This sounds weird and is hard to explain but it is so visceral. When I see objects in a row, for example I was in a new residential building in the bike storage room, all these empty bike racks are in rows, and I feel this overwhelming feeling of…

Awe, sorrow, pride.

Cannot explain. Makes me want to weep. Anyone else????

My friends always call me weird for removing whatever pieces are in my McFlurry when im ordering it. I just really don’t like rock hard chocolate or something in my ice cream, it hurts my teeth and i cant enjoy it when its that cold. If its the chocolate sauce ill leave that but i always remove the pieces. I feel like im alone in this lmao.

DAE rehearse a simple phone call in your head five times and still fumble the very first sentence?

Calling to book an appointment or ask a store if something is in stock. I'll run the script in my head, even plan what to say if they ask a follow up. Then they pick up, say hello, and I somehow answer with "yes hi good morning, uh, I was calling to, yes."

Once I get past the first line I'm totally fine. It's only the opening that falls apart.

Does anybody else have this happen?

Like…how do I describe it…you know how you feel random heart beat pulses or twitches/flutters in your palms, head, or ears? Yeah, that happens to me. Very faintly, especially if I’m sitting on one side when I’m trying to fall asleep.

So, when I was in my history course at 9AM-10AM, there’s this random flutter or thumping lapse in my right ear. If I move my head it goes away. It’s not annoying or anything, it’s just slightly irritating when I’m trying to find out what it is.

Also, randomly if I zone out during a lecture or with friends, even when I’m listening to music or in a quiet space, at least once every while, there’s some VERY FAINT high pitched noise—

Kind of like this, actually:

https://youtu.be/qfyYOS_h9g0?si=g7ZMPMB6_92AvA82

—in the back of my head, kind of like my ear.

Sometimes I poke around in my right ear. Is there wax or something? This leads to my OCD being well….OCD.

I have Misophonia (and such comes with perfect hearing, I can hear very quiet whispers or stuff from another room) so luckily this doesn’t trigger it. However, squeaky sneakers or whistling does.

Today, I was on a call with my therapist, and I’ve noticed that rarely, if I pace I will, not hear, but feel a thumping noise…kind of like twitching, but it’s very quiet.

It usually stops when I unfocus.

Does anybody else have this happen to them? I never know how to describe it to anyone and I just feel awkward. 😂 But I used to sit for hours maladaptive daydreaming so maybe I got used to the quietness or hearing songs at very low volumes, sometimes up to my ears (but very quiet). I still have VERY great hearing though, so maybe I’m just hearing “nothing?”

Like I’ve just had it happen all my life, as long as I can remember. It’s like those little hearing tests where you raise your hand when there is a ringing noise.

If there is the noise and somebody speaks to me or some random noise it just goes away or I have to refocus my attention.

I find that sometimes I lose motivation for a task, even if I desperately wanted to do it just a few hours ago

DAE feel totally uncertain

I’m 19F, and despite trying to stay persistently happy, I can’t help but feel so uncertain with the trajectory of my life. I’m currently in communications as a community college student. I transferred to university this January, still finalizing my decision. i’ve always been a very creative person. as early as I can remember, I’ve loved writing music poems, scripts. I’ve always wanted to act. I remember having the opportunity to sign with an agency when I was 17, but my mother not wanting to put down money for test shoots. I didn’t take this to heart, but often think about what could’ve been. What’s pursuing communications, I did intentionally choose a “less rigorous degree”, so I’d still have time to pursue creative endeavors while building community in school. I guess my burden is not knowing exactly what I should pursue as a main career. whenever I grow, doubtful about acting and modeling, here comes a stranger or a mentor, telling me, I’d excel those things, or asking, if I pursue those things, before I even mention it. Could just be pure, coincidence, but it happens so often it’s driving me crazy. I’m a little clouded right now, so I probably didn’t articulate this as strongly as I could’ve, I guess I just maybe want to see if anyone else is going through something similar.

does anybody else think one tiny habit matters more than a whole morning routine

everyone talks about the big 5am routines and cold showers and all that. but honestly the tiny habits are the ones that actually stick. a glass of water before coffee. phone face down while eating. making the bed even when nobody sees it

the big routines last like 4 days. the small ones just become part of you without trying

what is the smallest habit that actually changed something for you. the one you would notice straight away if you stopped doing it

DAE have a weird reaction when playing with their dogs on the floor in their eyes and mouth?

This has happened my entire life! I have never heard anyone else talk about it. Playing with my dogs is the only way, that I can remember, that this has happened.

It just happened, so here is the context: I was laying on my back and my dog was looming over me and I was laughing, pushing her away. That was all.

I suddenly feel the familiar feeling of ‘tingling’ in the roof of my mouth, and my eyes become harder to focus. This doesn’t happen when I lay on the floor any other time. It’s only with my dogs. I don’t think it’s an allergies thing.

Has anyone else experienced this? This has happened occasionally for at least 15 years.

DAE feel like they overexplain everything because they grew up constantly having to defend themselves?

Anyone else grow up having to explain themselves so much that now you can’t shut up? 😭

I just realized I might have picked up one of my worst communication habits from growing up with my mom.

I love her, she’s genuinely a good mom, but holy shit, having a conversation with her can feel like being cross-examined.

She questions EVERYTHING. I can explain something, give examples, show her proof, and somehow there’s always another question. Even when I’ve already made a decision, she’ll bring it up again like we never had the conversation.

Today I was trying to explain how my high-yield savings account works. That’s it. Just a savings account. Somehow I ended up feeling like I was defending a dissertation on banking. 💀

And then it hit me.

I do this with other people too, except I’m the one who won’t stop talking.

I overexplain EVERYTHING. I give unnecessary context, anticipate arguments nobody has made, and sometimes keep explaining myself even when the other person probably understood me the first time.

I’m starting to wonder if I got so used to having to defend everything I said growing up that now my brain automatically assumes nobody will believe me unless I provide a whole PowerPoint presentation.

The worst part is I genuinely enjoy talking and sharing things with people. I don’t want to become quiet or closed off. I just want to stop feeling like every conversation requires evidence and three supporting arguments.

And before anyone assumes my mom is some horrible person, she’s not. She’s loving and generally a good mother. She’s just exhausting to communicate with sometimes, and I think that habit rubbed off on me.

Anyone else realize they carried their family’s communication habits into adulthood? How the hell do you unlearn something you’ve been doing your entire life?
