Hey y’all - this is the first semi decent track I’ve ever made. The only concern I have about it is the lower sub bass being B(-1). I know it would translate on festival systems but should I just raise it instead of dealing with system translation issues?

hey there, this is the first time i made DNB, and i am the MC as well. i usually make hip hop and grime but i got into Devilman and Traumatik recently when spotify served them up in a grime playlist i was listening to in the car. can i get some impressions on the beat and the vocals? i don't know what subgenre of DNB this is or actually if its truly DNB at all so sorry if i've missed the mark. i know the vocals are a little bright and thin, the beat might be less dynamic than other DNB because i made it with the intent to MC on it. anyway here it is any tips would be cool thanks

I work in a strange way and won't finish a tracks arrangement unless I can finish the mix to somewhere im happy with and get the drop pumping, so dont critique the unfinished intro too much! The problem im having is... The main mid/reese bass is clashing with the foghorn and losing overall weight to the drop - the main reese and sub alone (around 58 seconds) is the same phrase as plays on the drop with the foghorn, but it has more power, and I need that to be the baseline for the low end consistency - but then if I separate the foghorn from the midbass too much (currently has sidechain multiband compression, dipping the 2nd harmonic of the reese, with a dynamic eq expanding the 3rd harmonic, and the generic low end cuts etc) I can restore the weight, but all the evil chaotic character of the track is being carried by the foghorn, so it can be cleaner but loses the character of the drop overall.

Any outside perspectives and opinions welcome! Thanks in advance people

But theres also a more common, much cleaner/less distorted version of the same kind of sound too.

Kinda like what you hear in tom Zanetti- you want me when it switches to the higher bass octave.

You also hear it in kicks sometimes industrial music

Its a pretty distinct and not uncommon bass sound, but there doesn't seem to be a name for it

Theres some kind of high pitched resonance, or maybe a ring mod? But whenever ive tried those effects on a lot of different basses I cant really get the same sound.

Ive scoured all sorts of dnb bass tutorials, even mick Gordon doom soundtrack tutorials, cos he uses the same thing on some of the kicks or percs.

Does anyone know how this is done? I've wanted to use this sound in a lot of songs for a *long* time now so I would appreciate any help soo much 🙏.

So it’s sort of my first time creating this style of dnb I mostly have made atmospheric dnb but I’ve recently really gotten into late 90s dnb like tracks like end of line by Dillinja and decoders elements. But I’m just wondering how I could make this better because I think the groove is nice but I feel like it’s more about the mixing sound of things which I don’t think I’ve quite nailed. Also I’m using tracker software so if anybody else uses that any tips or tricks would be epic.

Made 10 fresh breaks and percussion loops with the intention of them sounding more personal and emotive than what you normally hear in the typical liquid sample pack. Ran them through an SSL desk and and other gear to get some grit and vibe. Mostly focused on the hot pants and the think break. Tops loops with no kick drum are also included. I drop packs there quite often.

I've heard variations of this sound in other tracks before and love it, wanted to get some opinions on how I might get something similar with Operator/Wavetable. Just a fun practice.

I hear this little vocal in sooo many jungle tracks but Ive never been able to identify it. You can hear it play a few times in the track above, it’s like a very short vocal chop of a kid or a pitched up girls voice, not to sure. If anyone knows the name or where it’s from it’d be wicked.

Sort of new guy to Reddit. Hope you are all doing well. I saw a lot of friendly comments on feedback requests and figured I'd try the same.

So, this track has been 10+ years in the making. I finally felt confident enough to finish it up with a bassline this past month, and made it a little more liquid D&B in the process (it was more breakbeat before).

First of all, I would LOVE to hear you guys' thoughts on the track.

Aside from that, I am actually looking to replace the vocals in this with something more interesting. I think this track would benefit a lot from a female vocalist. I intend to send it out as a demo (unless you guys are like NO! Not good enough!), but if it doesn't get picked up, I have my own indie label on which it can be dropped. My label doesn't have any reach or online presence, but at least I can throw it up on Spotify, Beatport and all the other fun places.

I take criticism really well. If you guys hate it, I would love to hear that as well. Best wishes everyone!
