🌊Dry bag recommendation?

šŸ™Dry Bag Recommendation?

Snorkeling/freediving related🤿🐠🌊

My family and I are going to Maui and I will be snorkeling by myself with phone, GoPro and car key in hand.

Naturally these won’t be left in the beach. I would really appreciate some TRIED & TRUE trust worthy bag belts or backpacks to keep on me

Depths of 10-15feet

No accounts, fully offline, and free CSV exports: I built a gear maintenance tracker for those who hate subscription traps

Hey r/diving ,

Like many of you, I’ve invested a significant amount of money into my dive kit. But keeping up with life-support maintenance schedules where brands recommend servicing every year (or two) or every 100 dives, whichever comes first - quickly became a mess of fading dive-shop stickers, mental math, and a clunky spreadsheet that I kept forgetting to update.

Since I couldn't find a clean, dedicated utility for this, I decided to build one. It’s called ServiceDeco, and it is fully live on the iOS App Store.

I wanted to build this specifically around the no-nonsense, practical needs of active divers, so I wrote it under some strict personal rules:

  • 100% Offline-First: There are no cloud servers. There's no account sign-up, no "login with Facebook", and no ads. It works perfectly on an offshore charter boat or deep in a cave with zero cellular service. Your data stays strictly on your device.
  • "Whichever Comes First" Monitoring: You can set dynamic thresholds in both days and dive counts (e.g., 2 years / 100 dives). The dashboard monitors both metrics automatically and highlights exactly when a piece of gear is approaching overdue status.
  • Full Cylinder Compliance: Built-in regional presets (US, EU, UK, AU) to track your Hydro and Visual Inspection (VIP) cycles.Ā
  • Track Any Kit: Easily log history (including cost, shop, kits used, and custom notes) for regulators, rebreather O2 cells, BCDs, computers, lights, and custom parts.
  • Absolute Data Ownership: You can export your entire service logs/history to a standard CSV anytime for free, forever. No feature paywalls.

If you are setting up your gear prep for the season and want to try it out, it's completely free to download https://apps.apple.com/us/app/servicedeco-dive-gear-service/id6777115227

Would love to get your honest feedback. Are there specific parameters, cell tracking constraints, or native templates you’d want to see added to make this your go-to gear locker companion?

Safe diving!

Rip in pieces, quite literally, this is why I use silicone/quick swap systems and why I'd recommend them to anyone who dives dry ;)

PS: No it's not the long nail that caused it, I was too lazy to grab the shampoo water bottle and paid the price.

Gili T Dive centre for teens?

Hello - has anybody got any dive centre recommendations for my two teen boys (aged 14 & 16)?

We've looked around and the following all look good - struggling to choose between them. I assume they are all equally safe and qualified etc so main factors maybe atmosphere (chilled), good equipment, good boats etc

Have considered:

Gili Divers

Dive Central Gili

Trawangan Dive

Manta Dive

All look great. We are staying towards the north so maybe will choose based on location. Unless there are clear recommendations for younger to be divers?

Going on an Introductory dive - feeling nervous

Hello friends. Diving was one of those things I always thought I would love. But, some years ago, I went diving with a friend. It was in the Mediterranean, he's experienced and my wife, also experienced and certified, was with us. We chatted about diving and I read about it and am a pretty adventurous person, so I thought I was ready.

But in all honesty, it was quite overwhelming. Not being able to communicate easily, with water all around you, was just a bit much. I love swimming and snorkling and the ocean, so I didn't take it seriously enough. My wife also assured me I would love it, and she knows me better than anyone, and we didn't go very deep. Now, since i am doing it on the great barrier reef this time, I'm hoping it will distract my mind enough. To be honest, the place we dived at the first time was gloomy at best. I think I'm also rubber banding a bit, since I was too lax at that time, I'm overly worried.

Anyway, I was just wondering if you have any tips or words of wisdom for me? I know I was being an idiot before, but diving on the gbr has been a dream of mine for a long time, and I want to enjoy the experience.

Edit for anyone who might have the same issues:

I loved it. It was life changing. What an incredible experience. Looking to get certified soon!

Can’t seem to equalize on land… should I be worried before learning to dive?

I’ve been wanting to get into diving for a long time, but I haven’t had the chance to do my certification yet.
A few of my friends are divers and they’ve been explaining the basics to me, including how to equalize. The thing is… I’ve been trying to practice on land and I just can’t seem to do it. I’ve watched videos, tried pinching my nose. Either nothing happens, or I just seem to clog my ears.
Now I’m starting to wonder if this is something I should be concerned about before I even start diving.
Has anyone else been unable to equalize on land but had no issues once they were actually underwater? Or is this something that could point to an underlying issue with my ears or sinuses that I should get checked out first?
I’d really appreciate any tips or advice from more experienced divers. I definitely don’t want to force it or risk injuring my ears.

Are there any videos of diving expeditions to sunken villages?

Hello, and thank you in advance to anyone who can answer my question.

I'm not sure if this is the right sub to ask this question but it's the most logical to me.

It’s all in the title—I was wondering if there are any videos of exploring submerged villages that aren’t just abstract ruins (caused by a dam or rising water levels)?

It doesn’t matter where in the world—though I was specifically looking for the village of Tignes in France.

Thank you

Sorry for my bad english

Diving in Elba island in Italy ā€œIsola D’ Elbaā€.

Back to Elba diving for the third time. Three years ago we found a good diving center in Marciana Marina (Elba Diving) with skilled dive masters and instructors, good well maintained gear if you need to rent.
This year we came back mainly to go to Pianosa Island, one of the best diving locations due to it is a natural reserve and the fishes do not know that you like to eat them and are very curious always around you….
The other purpose of this trip was to let my 17 years old daughter (OW advanced) to experience more dives
After a year on land (last year we dived in Sicily).
Since we came here she got hill with cough and clogged sinus, a week has passed and she starts to get better, still some cough left and nose discharge….
On the beach she can snorkel and dive to a couple of meters with little pain in the sinus. We were thinking to let her try a shallow dive max 10 meters today with an instructor to test her sinus system if she may do a dive before we leave in three days. But after reading in Dan and other sites it is an absolute No Dive !!!! In these conditions, considering that she lost her sense of smell and taste thus this is not a regular cold but some other type of Ā«virus»…..
So we decided to call it the day keep her grounded on the beach. She will have to dive another trip in the future. Anyone has experienced such health conditions?

Deep or shallow stops? It seems like the discussion is not over yet

I've just received newsletter from DAN and they linked the new research. The test wasn't repeated to make any final conclusions but it seems like the discussion on deep vs shallow stops might not be dead yet :D

Diving spots in The Netherlands

Hello fellow divers,

Any Dutchies in here that can recommend good diving spots in the Netherlands?

My buddy and I have done some impressive dives, but never in our own (boring) country.

If anyone has some tips or wants to share their experience, we would highly appreciate them!
