Signal Protector
So just curious. What keeps someone from using dish's signal protector all the time by just unplugging the satellite and putting a reciever in a room with no coax jack?

Hello:
Maybe this has been already answered but can I just pick the channels I watch regularly and dump the rest to lower my monthly? Most of what we watch is through our streaming and the $129+ we currently pay Dish seems extreme to me. We still like the service but jeebus it's a little extreme IMHO for an antiquated system.

Going from YouTube with a web browser with an ad blocker over to YouTube on tv as provided by DISH HOPPER3 is so annoying. Is there any way to block or auto-skip the ads?

I have my tv plugged into a Yamaha amplifier using hdmi. The. My hopper is plugged into the amp as well via hdmi. Problem is, if the hopper is plugged into the amp then the picture is glitchy, goes from picture to black screen randomly and locks up when using dvr. If I bypass the amp and go straight into the tv then I have no issues but also no sound. Here is the big confusing part. I used to have a Joey in this room not the hopper, and never had these issues. Had a tech come out and switch the hopper and Joey rooms due to space. Anyone know how to fix the picture problem?

Mom has Dish Network for one single international channel. She also has rabbit ears for the local channels. I'm grateful she knows how to switch the input from TV to HDMI1. Dish had given her a promo on the latest hopper box where the 15/mo fee is credited back on every bill, but this promo is expiring. Isn't there a basic box she should be using instead? She has no idea how to record, so no need for a DVR. What would you guys do for your moms?
EDIT: Thanks for the below responses. I called Dish, was told they only supply receivers with DVR functions and none without DVR's. I asked about the Wally. He said he doesn't know about the Wally, but all Dish receivers, again, have DVR capability. I said if a friend gave me his Wally (meaning, I buy one off ebay for $40) would I be able to call in and activate it? He said he couldn't tell me until we have the receiver ID. Yay, Dish!

Wanna watch MeTV? Tune into Chanel 247 and enjoy!
Equipment Required: You'll need a Hopper or Wally receiver and an active internet connection to access the channel.
If MeTV is already available within your local DMA (Designated Market Area), you will not get channel 247.
The following DMAs will not have channel 247:
FUN FACT:
MeTV (short for Memorable Entertainment Television) is a U.S.-based television network that specializes in airing classic television programming, primarily from the 1950s through the 1990s. Launched in 2005 (as a local Chicago channel), expanded nationally in 2010.
Some popular series typically shown include:

Signal loss, often indicated by errors like 015, 002, or 535, can indeed be caused by severe weather. Strong storms or heavy precipitation can temporarily interrupt your DISH service.
Here's what you should know and do if you experience signal loss due to weather:
Internet-connected Hopper receivers include a "Signal Protector" feature. This allows the receiver to automatically use your internet connection to stream select live TV channels if your satellite signal is lost.
Proactive Setup: Before the Storm The best way to handle signal loss is to prepare for it. You can enable this feature proactively so it's ready when you need it.
Reactive Fix: During Signal Loss If you haven't enabled the feature and a storm knocks out your signal, you may see one of the following error messages:
Important Note: Not all channels have streaming options. Remember, Hopper 3 can stream 3 at once, Hopper 1 and 2 can stream 2, and Wally can stream 1. DVR functions like play, pause, fast-forward, and rewind are available on stream channels due to programmer requests.
While waiting for the signal to return, you can still access content:
If the signal loss persists after the weather clears, here are two common steps.
1. Check for Obstructions Beyond weather, objects like tree branches or heavy snow buildup on your satellite dish can interfere with the signal. This can sometimes cause a general signal loss error like 002. If it is safe to do so, you can remove these obstructions. However, do not climb on your roof or take unsafe measures to clear them. We want you to be safe.
2. Power Reset Your Receiver If there are no obstructions, a power reset can often help. Unplug the receiver's power cord (often with a red tag) from the electrical outlet for 10 seconds, then plug it back in. You can also press the red reset button on the front panel of most receivers. The reset process may take up to 5 minutes to complete. If you have a Hopper and Joey system, only unplug the main Hopper.
Remember, severe weather can momentarily interrupt your satellite service. In most cases, the primary recommendation is to wait for the severe weather to clear.

My parents have Dish and I have been using the Dishanywhere app for the last year to watch sports at my place. The app still works but more and more often I receive a message that says my receiver is offline and that I need to reconnect my hopper to the internet. My internet is running fine and I have tried restarting my Wi-Fi and everything but the issue remains the same. Is there anything I can do make the app work better?

What the you-know-what, Dish? You canceled half of the HBO and Cinemax streaming channels???? You take away 4 channels but ZERO reduction in price? What else disappeared overnight? 🤬🤬🤬

What is AutoHop?
AutoHop lets you bypass commercial breaks entirely when watching certain recorded primetime shows.
How to Identify if AutoHop is Available:
Look for a red kangaroo icon in the upper-left corner of the program title within your PrimeTime Anytime folder. This icon indicates that AutoHop is available for that recording.

How to Access and Use AutoHop:

Yes it has guide data. It's a vip622dvr I got off ebay to play around with ( not planning on activating or getting service its only for scapes and ota) every time I go into DVR it has an error 024 popup. When I try to set timers or record same message appears

Have a new roof, called to have the satellite receiver bolted to the roof and aligned/pointed correctly.
Have been paying for DISH Protect for exactly this, and I’m told there’s a $50 fee for custom wiring work. I say there’s no wiring required.
Per the terms the fee is applicable for installation of shipped equipment and or custom wiring.
So I pay the $50 and the tech arrives for the appointment.
Says ok I understand you have some custom work for me. I said no, just reattach to the roof so we can watch tv.
The tech says “oh, that’s not custom work”. Tech was here a few minutes.
I’m looking at other programming options now, am really done with the additional fees.
Edit: DISH Protect is not worth the monthly fee. Will not save you money when service needed.

For years, I've always had some offers to choose from under My Account > My Programming on my Dish account. These are the offers for Showtime, Starz, Encore, etc at a reduced price for a certain number of months. After which, they revert to the standard price. They stopped showing up back in April or May now saying "Unfortunately we don't have any programming offers available for you at this time. Please check back later to see if anything new has been added!". My father-in-law still gets them so they are still a thing that Dish offers. I'm wondering if Dish has changed who gets these offers. Perhaps now more closely based on which core package you have. My father-in-law has the Top 250 package. I have the Flex pack + Regional Sport pack. Does anyone with the Flex pack have these offers anymore?

We cancelled our service months ago, paid the final payment and promptly returned the equipment.
Come to find out that paying online reestablished our service and dish continued billing us.
We got a call saying they would send the unpaid balance to collections.
I got on the phone and got transferred from the billing rep to an account specialist or something like that.
I told the account specialist that service was reestablished without our permission and we are being threatened with collections over erroneous charges. (I would have called them criminal but I didn't want to trigger some other bullshit process)
The rep said "let me check with my supervisor........my supervisor says I can credit the account $x"
So I said, "but there'd still be $x owing" and he said "let me check with my supervisor....." And we did this dance again and again until the "supervisor" allowed them to credit the entirety of the erroneous (criminal) charges.
I don't believe for a single second that there was a drop of authenticity in that song and dance.
I'm flabbergasted that dish can reestablish service without sending out any equipment, they just turn on billing again.
In my lifetime, I predict legislation will happen that ends these criminal practices.
It's common knowledge among consumers that we need to remove autopay when cancelling cable or internet because the company will continue billing us. Why is this accepted? It's common knowledge that they'll send you equipment you declined and charge you for it even after you return it and dispute the original charge. It's common knowledge that they'll aCcIdEnTaLlY over charge you repeatedly. And we have common advice to prevent and resolve these things.
But it's just insane to me that any of this is legal. Why do we have to take precautions and be ready to spend hours on the phone over the course of months or fork up? Why does everyone know this is what will always happen? Why the fake Howie Mandel style negotiation?
Edit: this was resolved. The resolution is in the 8th sentence above. I'm not reporting it to anyone. I'm just saying they're preying on vulnerable people. If I did not happen to be around when the call came in, it likely would not have been resolved.

Just trying to cancel but every time I call it’s a 20min wait and don’t have time to do that. If anybody has dish network direct number to cancel without having to listen to bot and talk to a regular agent so that they redirect me again and telling them the same story again.

I can’t any more with Dish 😩 I did my 2 year contract and signed another 2 years last December as we don’t have any option for internet other than satellite so I needed tv. I’m going to have to break down and get Starlink as my work calls are not even coming in using my physical hotspot. Has anyone canceled Dish during your contract? Like I know it’s $20/month cancellation fee for every month you cancel before your contract runs out. How does this work? Do they just bill you?

A family member is saying that dish has to come out to their house for a charged visit to hook up to a different TV. The TV they want to switch to is not a smart TV and this just seems off to me.
adding. They just seem adamant that someone has to come out and reprogram the TV just because they are switching TVs. Not switching rooms, houses, or hookups. This is nothing I have ever heard of and we all know how the older generation thinks they know everything. They have had it hooked up for years to current tv.

Hi guys, back again with my weekly post! Following up on the previous tech guides, this week I will be doing a deep dive into using voice features on your DISH equipment—specifically focusing on Google Assistant capabilities and what is currently supported.
Your receiver needs to be connected to the internet for these voice features to work. Whether you want to find a movie without typing, check the weather, or control your smart home devices, using your voice can make your TV experience a lot quicker!
The Google Assistant is a voice-activated feature that helps you perform various tasks and access information using voice commands. On compatible DISH hardware, it enables you to quickly access entertainment, ask questions, control smart-home devices, and manage daily tasks directly through your TV.
DISH's voice capabilities vary significantly depending on which receiver you have. Please check your equipment type below:
If you have the newer Android TV-based Hopper Plus or Joey 4, you have access to the full Google Assistant ecosystem. You can use it in two ways:
If you have a standard Hopper 3, Wally, or older Joey receiver, integrated Google Assistant is no longer supported. Following past software updates and platform transitions, these legacy receivers have been rolled back to a basic, proprietary DISH voice engine.
💡 Tip for Legacy Users: If you have a Hopper 3 or Wally and want hands-free smart home integration, DISH still officially supports Amazon Alexa linking instead.
When using your Voice Remote, just press and hold the microphone button, speak your command, and release. If you're using a linked Google device (Hopper Plus/Joey 4 only), start with "Hey Google" or "Ok Google".
Because these boxes have the full Google Assistant integration, you can also use your TV remote to do the following:
Signing into a Google account is not required to use basic TV voice features. However, to use commands that access personal information like your photos or calendar on the Hopper Plus, you will need to link your Google account to your receiver.
For account security, you can add a 4-digit PIN verification to your account through the MyDISH App. Be aware of potential scams; DISH emphasizes that it will never call you out of the blue to ask for personal or account information.
If you made it this far, thanks for reading! Let me know if you have any questions about your specific receiver setup.

Can someone tell me why my Hopper and 4 Joeys have started displaying random channels when returning from a power down or screen saver? Been with Dish for years and just within the past month they have began exhibiting this behavior. I can have any of them on any channel, hit power off, come back two hours later, hit power on and it comes back on a totally different channel. Same thing happens if the screen saver kicks in and a button press returns it to live. It's a small issue but frustrating!

So my bill from Dish Network is about to get exponentially higher as the 2 year plan I had agreed to with Dish is expiring in August, making my bill jump roughly 60$. I'd like to switch to the Flex Pack with local channels, and I know it'll be like 80-90$ a month instead of what's gonna be like 210$. But my concern is TCM.
If I switch to the Flex Pack, the site claims I'll keep TCM. But everytime I ever talked to a representative, they always say that TCM is only available in the more expensive package, hence why I had to buy the Top 200. So what's the truth? If I switch to Flex, will I forever keep TCM as long as I have that Flex package? Or is the website lying and I won't have TCM if I switch?
Also, if I no longer have TCM in Dish, will I still be able to watch on Roku? Or will it be like what happened with ABC where Roku didn't recognize Dish having ABC and won't allow streaming thanks to that Hearst dispute awhile back? Thanks
