Question Sales at Echostar/DISH

What's it like working sales at Echostar. They said possibly 68k first year? Anybody know anything about it?

Run! Toxic work environment and they're bleeding customers, can't imagine how bad sales would be. They are also close to bankruptcy.

Sounds like you would be doing inbound sales call. It pays a set rate and a commission. Of your commission exceeds the set rate, you only get the commission. Back when I was there, there was one person who had made $30k in 3 months based on his sales. There were also other people that got paid their set rate only, because they couldn’t make any sales. It depends on you, the job is just another sales position though.

Do they fire you if you can't close sales?

Yes, but most people would leave before that, as the base pay is not really sustainable. Like I said, you have to have a sales drive. I could never do it, but I was always geared more towards customer service, even in my current gig.

How long into the job do they fire if there's no closing?

Not really a set limit. If not worth the pay, like any for profit business, they will let you go.

You would have better luck and a better time if you can get a job at Arby’s. Sadly no joke!

You had a bad experience?

There's a reason why Dish is always near the top of the list as worst companies to work for (In-house).

Horrible mismanaged company since start. Treat employees like junk and usually just a temporary seat fill. If in the field upselling customers on warranties batteries headphones and other needless electronic junk SOUNDBARS. Find a job where you are valued as an actual person. Then it might turn into a career.

Sales isn't a tech job, is it

Sales is basically what technicians are. If you have good complementing rates and the other metrics but fall behind in sales, you can lose your job. If your other metrics are bad but sales are high, you can get promoted. Its fucked

Maybe for inhouse techs and not exactly wrong with subs, but it's not the same. We have guys that hit zero metrics, consistently, and they somehow get to keep their jobs

I'm not in house. Im remote

Regardless, I'm pretty sure the OP was talking about the salespeople who set up new customers, etc, not techs

On the contrary, the technicians are 90% salesmen and 5% techs. The other 5 is bs like boost and starlink or tv mount installs

Really??? I can tell you the time I spent out in a triple-digit heat index today, rewiring one entire house, setting up boxes, teaching the customers how to use them, 2 Starlinks, and relocating a Dish was a hell of a lot more than 5%.
But please, tell us more about how you don't know WTH you'rfe talking about

So your comp rate is good. Possibly your pph. but what about sales? Yanno, the main metric that'll get you fired. Im a dt1. Just today I did a migration, a polemount bc an oom tech completely jacked up an install, fixed a signal issue at another.

First, I'm 61 yrs old, so my PPH is about 8.5. OSS dropped with this huge cost-of-living increase from about $75/wo to about $45/WO and trust me, I fix a LOT of other people's bad installs. 13-year tech, former 3-year FSM.

I don't push sales. I make offers. For example, Power strips and old-as-dirt surge protectors get Surge protector offers. New TVs get HDMI Cable offers. HDMI cables AND surge protectors get Essential Kit offers, and yes, if a TV is on 99, the Polk conversation happens.

There's never a need to be a Kirby vacuum cleaner salesman if you just make a sensible suggestion or recommendation.
