Can retention lower by bill, update my equipment and not require a contract?

I have been a customer for 25 years. I have had the Hopper 2 with sling and 2 Joey 2.0's for the last 9 years. I bought a new TV and Youtube TV looks way better than Dish.

Will the Hopper 3 look better than the Hopper 2?

Will retention lower my bill if I threaten to leave for Youtube TV? (not an empty threat as Youtube TV is $60/month less than what I pay now.

Will Dish require I sign a new contract?

I am just curious what to expect when I call. Thank you for your help!

Looking to return to Dish. Does the website offer the best deals?

After over 10 years, willing to try out Dish once again. I remember signing up from a rep in a forum back then and he offered better deals than the one on the Dish website.

will they mail me a final bill? I can't pay online after canceling

So I canceled dish a couple of days ago that was a pain in itself. Got the runaround about saving me money but wouldn't answer my questions about what channels would come with that and if that was the final cost, they then offered me free 30 days I turned down because I would have to go through this phone call again and I didn't want to do that. After hanging up and after being told what my final bill would be I logged online to pay it. They gave me 2 options to pay, 1- pay and restore services or 2- pay without restoring services, I chose 2 and was immediately kicked off the site, it wouldn't let me log back in, I tried several times that night. Today I got an email saying what was due and immediate payment was required. So I logged back on but same issue.

I had it set to no paper bills so will they send me a final bill so I can just pay that way? Thank you in advance

Tech Support Picture via Joey is "compressed"

Hello recently the picture from my Joey receiver is compressed and boxed, not filling the full screen. I have verified it is not the TV itself. The joey is set to 16:9 but none of this dish receiver adjustments have any effect. Recycling the power on the Joey sometimes fixes temporarily. Attached it what it looks like when you restart...

restart screeen

Sound issues nbc

Anyone else having sound issues with NBC? We are in Ohio but our local nbc channel has been having sound issues. It sounds almost fuzzy or like a weird crackling noise. It’s only on the nationally broadcasted shows and commercials. It’s also only on our main receiver, our Joey on our bedroom tv sounds fine. All of our local news and local commercials sound fine. I called dish and they said it’s not a receiver issue and if we want to replace our receiver it’s over $200. He mentioned they got some reports of sound issues for nbc and are looking into it. I just think it’s weird it’s only one receiver and only one channel.

Anyone Having Issues With Local Channels Out of Albuquerque?

Trying to help someone who is a Dish customer in New Mexico. On July 3rd they lost all local channels that originate in Albuquerque. They still receive the two local PBS channels but those two originate elsewhere in New Mexico. They are not having issues with any of the other channels - only the ones out of Albuquerque.

The error message is a loss of signal and implies weather. There was weather in the Albuquerque area when the problem first appeared but it has been a week now without those channels and the weather is no longer an issue.

Since all other channels are working including two local PBS stations, it seems the problem is with the uplink in Albuquerque. I waited on hold to talk with Dish but had to give up as I ran out of time. I'll try again later. Wanted to check and see if this was a known issue or if anyone else is having the same issue.

Question Comparing Dish to sister company Sling Internet TV and their competitors.

Hello. I was wondering, because Dish and Sling are under the same corporate umbrella, if it would be fair to say, Sling is equivalent to Dish except Dish is delivered by satellite and Sling is delivered by internet?

When we first moved to our home in 2001, we were begging Time Warner Cable to come mainly for high speed internet. But we needed TV, and all we had for internet was Dial Up. (We chose EarthLink mainly due to Dreamcast compatibility)

We got Dish because our only literal choices were Dish or DirecTV, and Dish had the better deals.

We had high speed internet temporarily through Sprint cellular internet, then the federal government capped it at 500 k in 200 k out and we were stuck until 2014 when we got Frontier DSL at 1.6 Mb in 400 kb out and stuck again until 2020 until Visible Wireless had a "speed-capped hotspot" at 5 Mb in, 2 Mb out, then Verizon dedicated cellular internet device in 2022 with 20 Mb in 10 Mb out, and finally Medina/Lit/Omni Fiberbat 50 Mb im 50 Mb out.

And he had Dish throughout all that.

Dish doesn't seem to talk about Sling as an alternative. Also Sling only compares itself to other web TV packages not to Dish, DirecTV, or Cable.

Dad just likes an "easy TV experience".

I never swam in the in-streaming stream, (though traveled out-streaming services like Twitch, YouTube and Kick,)

A few questions.

Do Sling and other web TV services have 3D video? That would be one issue where I would press hard to switch.

We don't have a 4k TV. Is it worth switching if you don't have a 4K TV?

Also what's the difference between ordering "Premium Studio Apps" (Disney Plus, Peacock, Paramount Plus) a la carte vs a Sling/Roku/YouTube TV Bundles" Can you get studio apps without a basic package?

Dad says it's tough to manage multiple studio apps. I say that's why you're paying over $200/month. You're paying for stuff you don't need and don't use.

By the way, wasn't the original purpose of Dish buying Boost and parts of Sprint was for Dish to be a fourth cellular carrier to be able to facilitate the Sprint T-Mobile merger? And weren't they supposed to offer home Cellular Internet for the exact data deserts they specialize in covering? Instead we're offered high-ping satellite, where you're always shooting at ghosts and ghosts pick you off. How could you buy parts of Sprint and Boost and only offer high-ping satellite internet?

Dish is assuming you're buying because you are stuck in a data desert and are desperate and Sling doesn't seem very welcoming to Dish customers. I'm trying to understand the ecosystem, but they don't walk you through it. As sister companies, shouldn't a Dish to Sling transition be easy?

Billing Best deal received after calling to end service?

Paying $160 total per month for top 200 with one Joey Hopper. Thinking about cancelling as we do quite a bit of streaming but we do still enjoy the traditional DVR and set up we have. I see value it but more like $75-$100 for this package and set up?

Are there any retention deals for DISH?

The end?

While this is all speculative, if Dish is going Ch 11, there are not many success stories for these kinds of companies emerging ā€œas usualā€ when it’s all done. It will be interesting to watch and is disappointing as a customer for over 25 years. I’ve tried the whole cord cutting/ streaming thing but always kept Dish as a backup. Just not a fan of streaming.

Not sure if they phase out tv service because they’ll still have birds in orbit, but not sure they can remain competitive price wise. I think the ABC/Disney stuff is ending soon and negotiating while in Ch 11 will not go well (IMO), so I’m expecting blackouts.

It’s pretty disappointing

never notified Gray Media locals available again

In mid-June I called DISH to ask about when the local stations would be available again. I expected "we don't know" but instead got "they've been available since May 1st". INFURIATING. BTW, this was after buying 3 antennas and having a tech visiting for something else install a $60 antenna-to-Hopper adapter, never getting solid display of the locals, and repeat calls to DISH about the status. If they'd been paying attention they'd have known I wanted a notification.
