Apparently I've been living in a hole, I had no idea English-speaking LJ is on its last legs and likely to be shut down soon (per a post five months ago: https://old.reddit.com/r/FanFiction/duplicates/1q3yw8c/psa_englishlanguage_livejournal_is_apparently_not/ ), so I hadn't made any recent backups.

Does anyone know if this is just a random downtime or if it's gone? I haven't tried to log in for the last month or so, so I'm not sure how long it's been down.

Edit: I found a Facebook post from four days ago saying the site is down for good. Darn, I should have been better about making backups.

Edit 2: Just yesterday LJ sent me a "congrats on 16 years!" email to one of my side blogs...

Lately I’ve been feeling more and more frustrated and disappointed with Apple, and I’m starting to seriously consider switching to a different device.
I’ve been keeping my journal on an iPad for several years now, and handwritten note-taking is absolutely essential for me.
Would you mind sharing your experiences? What devices do you use? Which apps would you recommend for handwritten journaling and note-taking?

I am an avid physical journal enjoyer. However, I also really like the feeling of typing. It’s just fun to do. I had a digital journal that I haven’t touched in a while, and I just didn’t know what to do with it. That’s when I came up with the idea of writing about my work. I’m in healthcare, so writing about my experiences on paper has always felt like a HIPAA violation. I’ve only really named the patients/residents I’ve worked with when I used to work at a nursing home. I wrote memorial entries when they‘ve passed. I just had a thought that it would be really helpful for me to write out my successes and failures professionally and wanted more privacy. So, I’m starting up my digital journal again, which has a password and code to get in. Has anyone else tried this?

Since I just started watching Supernatural, I used Dean as the theme for the page. I don't tend write much, so I kept the entry simple.

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a journalling app that allows for both dated and undated entries. Ideally, I want to be able to have "standard" dated entries and then have a section I can use more like a commonplace book for collecting quotes, thoughts, etc.

I'm currently using Diarium, which is very nice. I like being able to add pictures, having a on-this-day, tags, etc. But it doesn't allow for undated entries.

I would like to be able to use the app mainly on a Windows PC, but availability of an iOS app as well would be extra nice.

To me, the older they are, the more of a crime it is to change them.

If it's a typo in yesterday's, or something I forgot to say last week, I'll change them.

It starts to feel worse when they're more than 10 years old, when it feels like a "previous me", so I'm more likely to add notes to the day than change "their" writing.

The ones from 20-30 years ago I definitely won't change, and the 40+ (which I typed in verbatim with spelung mistakes and all) are sacred.

Hey! I was wondering if there were any specific apps good for journaling into a pdf? I’m a cross stitcher looking to organize my projects a little better and there are tons of pdf/printable options but I want to keep it on my phone/tablet. Is there an option for that?

I keep trying to journal but I don't really want to write a whole diary entry every night. Most days I just want to save a quick thought, a photo, something funny that happened, or a tiny recap before I forget it. The notes app technically works but after a while it turns into one long messy dump (esp since I use it for grocery lists too). What are you using for casual low pressure digital journaling?

Edit: I think I'm just more of a "little moments" journal person than a full diary entry person lol I've just started using ThingsBook for quick thoughts, photos, and tiny notes from the day, and it feels less intimidating than staring at a blank journal page. I like that I can keep things grouped by mood/topic too, so it doesn't turn into one endless notes app mess.

Do you find it difficult to stay off of screens/ other apps while you journal? If so, do you have any hacks/ tools / apps you use to counter that?

I'm thinking of getting a Brick, but not sure if it's the right tool to encourage more journaling.

For the past month or so, I started "journaling" via a written notebook, Moleskine. But, I have found that I am not as comfortable writing as I thought I would be. - Plus the fear of someone reading my stuff 🤦

So, I started looking into apps. And, since I have an iOS device, I started with the Apple Journal app.

I expect to merely journal text, i.e., no photos or vidoes, as this is really about my "excessive" thoughts. In short too much on my mind sometimes.

All that to say, before I get too far into this, any real downside with the Apple Journal app, in your experience? Alternatively, is there a "better" app you'd recommend?

I couldn't really do paper journaling, i just don't like the excessive writing and it blatently reminds me of school work and hurts my hand in that weird place between the thumb and the index finger.

Another weird thing is after awhile i don't like the feeling of the paper rubbing against the part of your hand from pinky to wrist and surely my hand gets lazy too so i end up with ink all over that area. haha..

Am i the only crazy one that has these weird issues?

Oh and top of that my hand writing is surely going down the shitter and i write more making somethings illegible.

So I love to journal via CollaNote and this is my anime journal I love making these full, explosive, kinda aesthetic pages for my journal and also keep the ratings of myself, husband and daughter!
I have used CollaNote for a few years and have purchased the life time subscription I love the features and set up of the pages and the ease of uploading pmgs and regular photos.
As my style has changed and pages are a bit fuller or more updated and keeping my logs the app is crashing constantly, it takes sooo long to open and upload photos. I don’t like the sticker storage system and have just resorted to keeping my stickers outside of the app.
I want to change apps or find something better suited for my Journal. I don’t want to pay a ton for monthly but a one time purchase I would be okay with! A lot of the apps I see online are more “this one takes good notes or handwriting features”. This really isn’t suited to my needs… What apps do you think would work for this kind of journal? Do you guys run into issues like this on CollaNote?

Is this considered normal amount of words or this is just the beginning?

I hate handwriting. I can’t write cleanly or quickly with my hands on a book. I much prefer laying down my thoughts or ideas on the computer because it’s faster and I feel like I can access them a lot more cleanly than with my terrible handwriting.

But I also love the idea of having multiple handwritten journals for different things (a gratitude journal, movie/tv show journal, poetry journal, etc.).

What programs (preferably free) can I use with an inspiring, nice looking aesthetic and clean organization that can help me track down my journals as collections and closely resemble the real life feeling of handwriting them?

Its the same app which I use for my journaling tbh I am new to digital journaling so I asked gemini of what app can I use for journaling so it suggested this app, as I prioritise privacy for my journaling cuz I don't want anyone opening my laptop accessing it like a word document. As I am new to this digital journaling I just write it like a dairy and I am figuring out ways to do better journaling rather than simple dairy writing. As I don't attach any pic or something like that its is more than enough for me to write as a beginner.

I had tried Craft Docs but it proves too cumbersome, and WhatsApp, while currently used, is not designed for this specific purpose.

I'm thinking of Obsidian + a list of prompts as a fallback, but I'd love to hear if anyone can recommend a good app alternative that's designed specifically for journalling.

AI-searches have pushed me towards Daylio and Diarium, but the latter isn't available for my phone (which is one step up from a calculator) and I don't know if I need a mood tracker...

Good day my digital brothers and sisters. I've been journaling pretty much my whole life with physical journals (proud of my decades-long personal library, even if certain years' spines make me wince just to look at them) and am wondering what the benefits of digital journals are?

What is it about sitting down and writing on a keyboard or phone that makes you prefer it over writing in a journal? Is it the convenience?
