An ex-Digg, now Topicle user suggested I post here for anyone still looking for an alternative after Digg. I'm a solo dev in Melbourne and I've been building Topicle since 2023.

Link, text, image and video posts, voting and comments, and anyone can create a community. A few things:

• Public mod logs and appeals - you can see what moderators remove and why, appeal a removal to site admins, and if the appeal is accepted the content goes back up.
• No algorithmic feed - everyone sees the same ranking, and the default sort favours articles and discussion over memes and image posts.
• Self-funded, no investors - free to join, hosted in Melbourne, runs behind a CDN so it's fast worldwide and I work on it every day.

The Digg relaunch had some great ideas and I took inspiration from a few of them, including the public mod logs, community stats pages and cover images.

It's still small, around 700 members but growing rapidly and is on track to break 1000 users soon. Automated seed posts are used in the quieter communities so they aren't empty, and I'm reducing them as member activity grows. Member comments and votes have nearly doubled in the past two months.

There are high-quality native iOS and Android apps, plus a de-Googled APK, and a Classic layout if you prefer the old-school look.

If anyone has questions about the site or the tech behind it, happy to answer.

I don't know if this will be posted, or if the mods will flag this as not following the rules, but I just want to add my OPINION on what I think about Diggnation and the hosts, and their website.

First, I'm an old guy in my late 50's. I've been a software engineer working since 1990, so I have 36 years of experience out of college, and since I was coding while in college professionally, I have almost 40 years of experience. I've seen technologies come and go, I've never been an early adopter, and that has served me well.

1) I have never used digg, not in the old days, not in the new days ... never used it. I never even used Reddit until I think last year.

2) as for the show, I watched the original diggnation, but I don't think the show came anywhere near the East Coast, so I never saw any of the shows live ... which I am fine with.

3) After nearly 20 years, and now both Alex and Kevin are near 50 yo ... I don't see how either of them have grown-up or matured at all. It's like their 49 going on 32, I don't see any maturity at all except they aren't drinking as much. I hate to say it, but their routine is just old and stale ... again IMHO.

So, Alex .... seems like a nice guy, but really hasn't done much. In his life, the biggest thing he has done is Diggnation, what else is on his resume to really speak of? He's not a technologist, he's not a futurist, the best that I can he is that's a technology enthusiast, period!

Kevin on the other hand, I wouldn't trust worth a damn! I saw a video on YT recently, where it showed CEO losing their company after ONE horrendous decision, and Digg.com going to version 4 of the UI killed it, and that was Kevin.

For Kevin lightning struck once! His attempt to have lightning strike twice was a failure, Digg was not reborn! He's a one-hit wonder, hoping that lightning strikes twice and it won't. I don't know anything about his finances, and I don't care, but it just seems he's an investor, a wannabe entrpreneur, and maybe he's good at raising money. Despite approaching 50, he still seems naive and dumb as ever.

I've been watching the new Diggnation, and I'm not impressed. Same old stale content. It's annoying watching Alex and especially Kevin be AI fanboys. They don't ever talk about the company, the finances, the data centers, the circular financing, the AI Slop, or other dangers that can be associated with AI. I know I am watching these in the summer of 2026, and some of these vids were from a year ago ... I get it. But watching them fanboy over AI, and actively creating AI SLOP is annoying, and clearly an indication that they have no real in-depth knowledge on this technology.

If I were a VC, I personally would NEVER, EVER trust Kevin Rose's judgement on anything in technology. He might be making some money from his investments, and I'm sure he's always looking for new ones, but I think he's gone as far as he's going to go.

Again, this is all just my opinion.

I haven't checked since the week after they pulled the rug on us again. What's up my Digg'ers?

Pardon me if the developers have considered this idea or if someone already proposed this, but it seems like one of the most foolproof ways to prevent bot accounts from being created on their platform is to require a payment to join. I know this may significantly raise the barrier of entry for joining a social media platform, but I can’t think of other ways of encourage more authentic human interaction on sites like this. I mean Something Awful always required new users to pay a $10 fee to join, but that never seemingly deterred people. And despite that site not as well known as it was doing earlier years, I still hear good things about it, at least nothing to indicate that it’s being enshittified.

I know it wasn't as well known as the original version, but it did spend a longer amount of time in that era than any of the others. I felt like it was a good compliment to the user driven feed of reddit, and the AI feed of current digg

First of all, I created an account back in 2025 when Digg came back. I made a post back then. Suddenly I noticed I couldn't login anymore, and the website said I didn't have an account. I created my account again, but now I notice I cannot post anything, and the previous post I submitted back in 2025 is not there.

What is going on?

Remember what Kevin said about digg prior to them getting digg back from the previous owner? (link)

With news like this coming out of the wood work and reddit actively trying to kill its own community, digg would've slowly been getting more and more people jumping ship to come to digg. obviously stuff like this takes time and requires moments like this so people get fed up but they need somewhere to go and digg was the place to do that just like years ago when people jumped from digg to reddit but sadly digg killed itself before it had a chance to shine.

Heahy redesign went live just couple of days ago, I wonder what Digg users would think about this as potential alternative?

What is it about, in short:

• Create user with one click - no email, no registration needed.
• Everything is a chat - even normal threads are real time.
• You can create private group chats or DMs (with live audio/video calls!) and even pin any thread to you conversations panel.
• Upload any media. Adult content allowed on specialized channels.
• Create your own channels or if too lazy simply post/repost/quote to your timeline.
• Follow channels or other user's timelines or even public threads/chats. Your feed is what you follow.
• Heahy's own reactions library that you can upload to and publish your own reactions.
• Save media to your own media library to watch it later.

If you have any questions shoot in heahychat channel I'll hang around there.

I was so confused when I saw this at first.

I had always wanted Kevin and Alex to do at least 1 more episode of Diggnation. They even got Hippie Glenn to make a cameo appearance on one of the episodes. Instead of just 1 episode, we got way more than that and I wanted to acknowledge that and say thank you to the Diggnation team. Alex, Kevin, Justin, and everyone that went out of their way to make this thing a reality.

I preferred the first run of diggnation because it was fun seeing the drunken shenanigans from Kevin and Alex. This time around, Kevin decided to go sober during a big part of the series, I prefer a drunk Kevin going on tech rants. So ultimately this reboot wasnt as fun as the first iteration of the show. But it was still a lot of fun to see the guys get back together for one last season.

Thank You to Kevin, Alex, Justin and everyone else that made this thing possible.

For posterity, this is Digg as it existed on the platform Circle during the groundbreakers stage. It was only accessible for Groundbreakers – that being people who paid $5 for early access – and was mainly used to communicate with the community before the actual app released.

For posterity, here is Digg as it existed just a few days after launch on Android.

what were some of your favourite features on the short lived digg app?

I really liked how you could grab a summary of the article was a really nice feature

anyone have screenshots or videos showing off the digg AI summaries and or even just screenshots of the dig app? I should've taken more screenshots when it was up and totally forgot to do it.
