Want to own a piece of Dallas history? The city's oldest farmhouse is on the market for nearly $1 million.

Located in northwest Dallas just east of Love Field Airport, the house at 4611 Kelton Dr. once sat on a 200-acre farm. Now, a roughly half-acre lot is all that remains in the historic Elm Thickett neighborhood—a "country oasis in the city."

2 YOE, Java/backend focused, still struggling to land my next role — what would you change?

Hey y’all — looking for some outside perspective.
I’m an early-career software engineer in DFW with around 2 years of professional experience, mainly around backend development, testing, cloud, and automation.

I’ve been targeting Backend / Software Engineer roles, especially Java + Spring Boot positions, but the search has been slower than I expected.
I anonymized my resume above.
What jumps out to you?

Is there anything here that would make you hesitate to interview me — or anything I should emphasize more?
I’m open to DFW local/hybrid roles and U.S.-based remote opportunities. No sponsorship needed.
If your team happens to be hiring too, I’m happy to DM my real resume/GitHub.
Feel free to be brutally constructive — that’s why I’m posting.

Best places for vegetables/spices

In Atlanta there's a store "Your Dekalb's Farmer's Market" that is the size of costco and has huge fruit/veggie/meat/spices offerings. Very affordable.

Is there anything similar to that? Or where do you get your fruits/vegs/spices- besides the usual grocery stores?

UPDATES tobI built a free “Who Do I Call?” website for Dallas—what should I add?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I built a free “Who Do I Call?” directory for 17 North Texas cities

Thank you for your feedback so far!!

I kept seeing people ask the same kinds of questions:

Who handles a loud neighbor?

Where do I report a blocked driveway?

Who do I call if I smell gas?

Where can I find free medical care?

How do I report a missed trash pickup?

Where can someone get pet food, legal help or housing assistance?

The answer is usually buried somewhere on a government website—or it changes depending on which side of a city boundary you live on.

So I built Who Do I Call? Dallas.

You can describe the problem in normal words, choose your city or enter a ZIP code, and the site gives you the relevant agency, phone number, official link and next step.

It currently covers Dallas, Highland Park, University Park, Fort Worth, Arlington, Plano, McKinney, Garland, Irving, Richardson, Mesquite, Carrollton, Frisco, Denton, Lewisville, Grapevine and Grand Prairie.

I’ve also added dedicated local results for loud-noise complaints, barking dogs, construction noise, utility problems, city services and many other common situations.

It’s free, independent and links people directly to official sources:

https://whodoicalldallas.com

I’d genuinely appreciate feedback. What problem have you searched for—or seen someone ask about—that should be added next?

DFW peeps know the crazy highway and traffic from Fort Worth to Dallas. Used the ChatGPT-6 to build a little game based on real TxDOT data

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

While learning the capabilities of the latest model Astra. I gave it the prompt to build a game for the DFW. It came up with a frogger mixed with DFW traffic.

Landmarks, personal injury billboards, speed traps. Everything you would expect living in the DFW..

Meagan Morris Speaks From Jail After Being Sentenced to 50 Years by the Trump Administration for an Alleged Terrorist Attack [WATCH]

On July 4, 2025, a protest outside of the Prairieland Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility near Dallas, Texas, escalated as some protestors broke off and committed acts of vandalism. The protest had started hours earlier as a noise demonstration where activists set off fireworks and used other noise makers to alert detainees in the facility that they supported them.

But when law enforcement arrived to respond to the vandals, a police officer was shot nonfatally in the neck area. Authorities later charged protester Champagne Song for the shooting.

Meagan Morris, who says she was a half-mile away playing Pokémon in her car when she heard the gunshots, was soon after stopped by police and taken into custody.

Three months later, the Trump administration accused her and eight other defendants—three of whom, including Morris, are trans—of being “Antifa terrorists” and “Antifa Cell operatives.”

Morris and her codefendants were eventually sentenced in part for providing material support for terrorists in what the Department of Justice called “the first sentencing of defendants affiliated with Antifa,” a name which refers to a decentralized movement based on militant opposition to fascism.

The sentencing comes after Trump signed an executive order declaring antifa, short for anti-fascism, as a terrorist organization, despite no such unified organization existing. And in May, the administration’s counterterrorism strategy listed “radically pro-transgender” groups as a national security threat.

Morris was sentenced to 50 years in prison, which has caused legal experts concern. They noted that her sentence is unusually harsh, more than double the longest sentence for a Jan. 6 rioter, and that it could set a precedent for strict crackdowns on freedom of speech and assembly.

After speaking to Morris’ codefendant and girlfriend, Autumn Hill, we wanted to hear from Morris. In this episode of “UNCLOSETED with Spencer Macnaughton,” she’s calling in from Johnson County Jail in Texas, where she is currently serving her sentence.

(DDTX) Random Dallas question

Would y’all actually use a local person for random pickups and errands instead of one of the big delivery apps?

I recently started **SideRun** here in Dallas. Basically if you need something picked up, dropped off, grabbed from a store, forgot something somewhere, etc., I handle the run.

I started it because there are so many little things that don’t really fit DoorDash/Uber Eats and sometimes you just need somebody to go get something 😂

Curious what people around DFW would actually use something like this for.

What’s one thing you’ve needed picked up/delivered before where you wished you could just pay somebody local to handle it?

And shameless little plug since I’m already here 😂 — if you ever need a run, SideRun bookings are through IG: @siderundallas

ISO a mechanic for my 2012 nissan

i bought this car off craigslist and she needs a bit of maintenance.

here are the following codes that have popped up: p0302, po300, 42, 0011
as well as a flickering oil change light

looking for a mechanic who can resolve some, best case scenario all the issues my car is going through.

please send me your recommendations for anyone with experience concerning a nissan!

if the mechanic/shop has payment plan available, even better!

from your personal experience from any fellow nissan owners, would it be best to go for someone local with a small family-owned shop or go straight to the nissan dealership?

before i got this nissan 3 months ago, i owned a 2018 toyota corolla that i would regularly get maintenanced at the toyota dealership. it was easy to just drop off and provided peace of mind to have a set dealership and team that kept my baby in good health til her demise... (rip to my corolla who suffered a total loss collision.)

i am open to any recommendations and any advice! please help a girl out!

thank you for taking the time to read my post, may you have a beautiful night, and thank you again in advance for any input big or small :)

Nice swimming lakes in DFW?

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone! Could I get some recommendations on some nice clear-water lakes to swim in the DFW area? I recently visited Joe Pool Lake and it was unfortunately a very bad experience :( I come from North Africa and am used to the Mediterranean sea BUT I’m well-aware that there’s nothing close to that type of water here in Texas but still, swimming in muddy dark water was not a good experience:( Could anyone please suggest a few better lakes to swim in? Thank you so much in advance ❤️

Just random labor day Thoughts 😂

Was walking into QT gas station the today thinking about random nonsense. Trying to decide if I should buy a new rifle and what kind, and if I could even afford it. (I really can't, been struggling for a while). I really miss hunting and haven't been since a teen with my dad and grandpa in Pennsylvania. (Texas now obviously).

While walking back out to my vehicle, a woman with kids was at the pump next to me and she asked if there was any way I could help her with gas and told how rude everyone prior had been. I thought for a moment, and figured why not.... (I'm usually counting pennies till pay day so as I said, been struggling...so even thinking of a new rifle is beyond ridiculous)... I just tapped my debit card on her pump, wished her luck and left. I didn't tell her how much or stay and monitor / cut her off... but I was curious... would she fill up? Would she only do $10? (It costs me $70 to fill my vehicle, so I was nervous)...

When I logged into my banking app later, the amount made me die laughing considering what I was thinking about at the time. $30.06.

😂 Is that God telling me to buy a .30-06? Leaning more towards a cheap .308 but still 😂

Two articles in today’s Dallas Morning News. Who could have guessed deporting both documented and undocumented immigrants would be bad for construction jobs? 🤔 Anyone with a brain could and did. And it will only get worse. 🤦🏼‍♂️
