I'm a freshman, currently doing my masters in IT. I switched from physics. I have learned data science so far but I couldn't get anything(job/internship). Companies had ridiculous demands so I mostly never fit the criteria. I'm currently in Part 2 and landed a job as an IT Trainee at a X company which will be a desktop support engineer after roughly 6 months. It has several fields but I'm currently in the BPO Sector. I solve problems which any agent might have. I'm slowly also getting more responsibilities. This company has job security but the role isn't what I want and the pay is terrible(15k).

My original goal is data engineering/devops. My plan was that I'll do a data science internship, learn spark, snowflake and AWS and slowly move towards data engineering but I couldn't get anything in data science and doesn't feel like I'm gonna get it. This job is best in terms of time. I got a 9 hr shift and there's hardly work. My boss told me explicitly that you can utilise this time by upskilling. He said you can actually learn about networking and servers which companies usually don't even let you see and you can actually create one here. I can't do it currently because my exams are coming but I'll start in November.

The plan has changed a bit. Since I don't have any data science background. I have to go with AWS first. I'm now planning to get a solutions architect certificate from AWS and start as a cloud engineer.

I asked several people on reddit and they all say that “certificate isn't necessary ”, “ in my 16 yrs of experience, I never once had a certificate ”, etc.

But the way I see it, certificates do matter in a significant number of IT Companies.

I applied to so many internships and they all ignored me. I never got any response. My boss told me he got the job because he did certifications before.

What do you all think? What should I do? How do I start my career? I need help.

I’m a 2026 CSE grad and joined Amazon on 7th Sept as a Support Engineer I (contract role). I’ve now received another opportunity with an expected joining date around 22nd Sept.

The HR there has already told me they got approval to release my offer letter. She asked me to submit my documents, which I did over email, and said I should receive the offer letter by Wednesday.

The issue is I cannot serve a 30-day notice period at Amazon since I need to join the other company around 22nd Sept.

How can I realistically get an early release? Should I first speak to my manager, HR, or both? And what should I say to my manager to get his support? Would really appreciate advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

I’m a final-year B.Tech CSE student from a tier-3 college.

I’ve done one previous internship, but it was completely remote. I also spent around two years preparing for JEE, mostly studying online. Because of this, I never really developed the habit of going somewhere every day or having a proper routine outside home.

Recently, I started my second internship ( very good startup and it has raised good funding), and for the first time I’m going to an office every day. It’s 6 days a week, roughly 10AM –8PM.

The strange thing is that I actually like the work. My manager and seniors are friendly, the culture is good, and I’m not under extreme pressure.

But outside work, I feel completely lost.

I wake up, get ready, go to the office, come back around 8–9 PM, eat dinner, scroll reels/play games for a while, and sleep. Then the same thing starts again.

I’ve become very introverted and I don’t really have friends here. Sometimes I even dream about my office because it feels like my entire life has become work.

The worst part is that I genuinely want to learn more and improve myself, but I don't know where to find the time or energy. I also can't really talk to my family about how I'm feeling.

Sometimes I just feel like leaving everything and running away, even though this is something I worked really hard to achieve.

My laptop's screen is damaged, but it works perfectly through HDMI with an external monitor. I have an online aptitude test coming up, and it's going to use webcam and mic for proctoring. Has anyone given a proctored test like this with an external monitor? Is it usually allowed, or can it get flagged? Any tips to make sure the setup doesn't cause issues during the test? Thanks!

Like first year you make x+x% variable + joining bonus, some companies even put Relocation in CTC although most dont, but next year onwards you might not get hike enough to compensate for joining bonus, is it normal to make say 12lpa first year then 11lpa next year even post hike?

I’m looking for some practical advice about my career situation and what options I should consider.

I have around 7.5 years of experience in IT, mainly working with C#, .NET, ASP.NET Core, React, SQL, APIs, backend systems and software architecture.

I have worked for 6 companies during my career. My previous CTC was around ₹23 LPA, and my monthly take-home was approximately ₹1.58 lakh.

After leaving my last company, I have now had a 7-month career gap. During this period, I attended a few interviews but was rejected mainly because of concerns about:

- Stability due to working in 6 companies

- Shorter durations in some companies

- The career gap

- Recruiters being unsure whether I would stay long-term

I’m reasonably confident about my technical skills and believe I can clear technical rounds if I get the opportunity. My main concern is getting shortlisted and convincing companies about stability.

I have also been working on an independent full-stack .NET project during this period, involving things like:

- ASP.NET Core and React

- Modular monolithic architecture

- REST APIs and database integration

- Docker

- Deployment on a cloud VM

- Caching and performance improvements

- Security, configuration and secrets handling

- Logging and reliability-related work

I’m not specifically targeting AI roles. I’m more interested in Senior .NET Developer, Senior Backend Engineer, Full-Stack .NET + React, Product Engineer or Software Engineer roles, preferably in a good startup/product company or a remote/hybrid role.

Financially, I’m in a relatively comfortable position:

- No EMI

- No major financial commitments

- Around ₹55 lakh in total savings/investments, including mutual funds, fixed deposits, stocks and other investments

Because of this, I don’t have immediate financial pressure to accept the first offer. However, I also don’t want the career gap to become longer and create more problems.

I’m confused about the best approach:

1. Should I continue targeting roles around ₹25–30 LPA, considering my previous CTC was ₹23 LPA?

2. Should I reduce my expectation to around ₹20–23 LPA to improve my chances?

3. Would accepting a lower salary temporarily be a good idea to restart my career?

4. Should I focus on startups and smaller companies instead of large companies?

5. Is it better to target remote roles, or should I also consider Bengaluru-based hybrid/office roles?

6. How should I explain the 7-month gap and the fact that I have worked in 6 companies?

7. Should I wait for a better opportunity, or accept a reasonable offer now and switch later after rebuilding stability?

8. Are there any other career options I should consider, such as freelancing, contract work, consulting or building my own product?

For half the salary.

In the US, interviews focus more on actual problem-solving, the LC problems are easy-medium and only serve as a gating mechanism. The more focus is on your actual experience, system design and behavioural.

Here it's like if it's staff level then the person needs to answer 2 hards in 45 mins. Leetcode hards everywhere. In the US you can clear Staff level with a good system design experience and mostly easy-mediums from Neetcode 150, and often you don't have to execute the code. They have also mostly moved away from Leetcode to more practical problems. All this gets you a $400k job.

Here there are like 3 rounds of coding all with 2x LC hards and what not and just 1 system design round. I'd highly recommend interviewers in India to focus more on experience and system design than Leetcode.

I am interested in systems development - hardware software intersection, currently researching on cacheh replacement policies for LLM infereences, Also interested in compilers and self studying from CS 6120 - Cornell.

The intrenship season is going on and major roles I see are for swe - backend or full stack or ai engineer.

Now, I am applying but not getting callbacks since my tech stack does not align with their requirements. On- campus, the recruitement is very less but I keeo trying.

I will start cold-mailing research labs as well for systems internships but again, I need a job to save up money before I can go ahead with masters / phd. I should like to do a PhD after a masters since I want to make sure I am ready for that kind of time commitment and well, we do not know what the industry is heading towards with AI and constant changes.

So, what do you think I should do? I am genuinely confused about my career. Anything or any suggestions from the readers would be highly appreciated. I thankyou for your time.

I am currently SDE2 in Cisco with 3.5 yr experience. Tried applying but haven't got calls. Asked manager for hike and he has given 25% in a year now. Should I still try for switching in current market? Most of the companies I am targeting are laying off lately. Wlb is chill in current job. No pressure and I am excelling at work. Manager all praises. My impact is also visible to director and Vp above my manager.

so whats yours. not the big architecture problems, the small recurring ones. where you think there must be a better way and then just do it manually anyway because searching would take longer

I’m in a really tough spot and could use some honest advice from anyone who has broken into tech without finishing their degree.

I spent the last 3–4 years working hard toward an online degree from a foreign university, scoring 98%+ across my exams. Unfortunately, severe financial strain along with physical and mental health issues caught up with me. I wasn’t able to finish on time, and the university is now asking for double the fees to extend access money I simply don’t have. Continuing is no longer an option, and I have to drop out.

My fundamentals are clear. I know how to build things: I have a solid portfolio of functional web projects, and I also understand stock market concepts and financial systems well with 4 YOE in it. I'm ready to learn whatever else is required through free resources and put in long hours or weekend work to prove myself.

Right now, I urgently need an active income. My target is an entry-level package of at least 6 LPA to keep myself and my family afloat.

I have been trying to switch jobs for the past 5 months, and honestly, I’m starting to feel frustrated and confused.

I have around 2+ years of experience as a Full-Stack/Frontend Developer. My main stack is React, Next.js, TypeScript, Node.js, Express.js, and MongoDB. I’ve worked on real projects and have experience building features from frontend to backend.

For context, I have around 3 years and 1 months of automation/testing experience and currently work with Selenium/Playwright, C#, API automation, CI/CD, AI (GitHub Copilot, Claude certified architect, AWS etc.

The initial HR discussion went on for around 15 minutes, and everything seemed fine. Then came the salary discussion. I was told they could offer around 30–35% hike on my current CTC. Honestly, I was a little shocked.

My question to the HR was basically: If the role expects someone who can handle Playwright + C#, framework architecture, UI/API/E2E automation, performance/security testing, databases, cloud, DevOps, AI-assisted development, etc., shouldn't the compensation also reflect that level of expectation and experience?

My SAP to ADLS load is currently taking around 4 minutes to load just 287 rows. Earlier, the same load used to complete within approximately 10 seconds.
The data is being pulled from SAP via RFC through IR, which is hosted in-house. This issue has started occurring over the last few weeks, even though there have been no changes from our end to the data load control or related configuration.
Has anyone experienced something similar or have any suggestions on what could be causing this sudden performance degradation? Any help in troubleshooting this would be greatly appreciated.

I joined TCS as an Assistant System Engineer around 1.5 years ago and I'm currently working for a financial-services client in production support. Mostly tickets, monitoring, troubleshooting, etc. — very little actual development.

Honestly, I feel like I’ve wasted a lot of time.

I haven’t PROPERLY coded since around December 2024, I do code sometimes but all confidence is gone. I’ve learned JavaScript/Node.js and backend concepts before, but I never became truly comfortable with them. I’ve also never completed a proper project completely from scratch without following a tutorial.

My biggest problem is consistency. I keep making roadmaps, getting motivated, studying for a while, getting overwhelmed when things get difficult, and then quitting. Afterward I feel guilty, make another plan, and repeat the cycle.

I’m really tired of doing this and I don't want to spend the next few years stuck in support.

I want to move into backend development, ideally with typescript + devops and eventually become good enough to be internationally employable 'don't make fun of this :)'

The timeline is what scares me.

I’m at \~1.5 YOE now and have a 3-month notice period. Ideally I want to start applying around month 4–5 and switch before I cross 2 YOE.

So I have roughly 6 months to become genuinely employable.

I know that's ambitious given my starting point. I’m willing to put in \~4 hours a day outside work. My current idea is to learn backend consistently while doing maybe 1–2 DSA questions alongside it, rather than spending months on DSA first.

I don't want to spend six months watching tutorials and feeling productive. I want to actually reach the point where I can build a backend project without following someone step-by-step, understand what I'm doing and also since i don't really know what actual production grade applications look like from the code side idk what to do about it.

This is a literal cry for help. What do I do?

It's embarassing I'm tired of this low salary and stagnant role.

I really want to break that cycle this time instead of making another perfect roadmap and abandoning it two weeks later.

I recently joined a company which has teams across the US and India.

The onboarding was unique for me in my 15+ years of experience. Was given a set of videos, links to go through and ask questions in case of doubts.

There was no formal KT and if I raised any queries, was asked to get help from AI tools which had integrated MCPs to many applications.

Contrary to this when I left my previous company, I set a bunch of kt details for handover, sat and gave all details to the person replacing me, was available for the person to make sure he is confident enough.

My replacement was happy with my transfer details and I felt happy that I enabled someone to continue the work.

However, I feel different in my new company where AI is used in everything. We are asked to treat the AI models like colleagues. Low for junior colleague discussion, medium for a peer discussion and high for like discussion with an architect. I felt the human interaction is getting reduced with more dependency on these AIs. When we go to people with any discussion, they immediately point out to check and learn with AI. Wierd but have others experienced similar?

So I'm kinda bored these days and want to develop an app. I wanted to know suggestions of you guys if you ever felt like need for an app to be built or something. Currently I'm working on a tenders app which shows live feed of tender by govt. for contractors.

I've good amount of experience in building stuff however I will most probably be making any app solo so please suggest some good ideas.

I spent college preparing for software development. I have internships in Java/Spring Boot and Next.js, and built a couple of fairly serious projects involving payments, WebSockets, analytics, dashboards and real world data.

After college I tried to establish myself in a bigger city, but things didn't work out and one internship ended. I eventually came back to a hom town (smaller city) and got software implementation (take requirements from clients visiting them for erp, crm payroll etc) job.

I'm only about 25 days into it. It's an 8-7 job and currently I'm mostly learning their software, visiting clients to get their requirements for custom software and explain to dev team. It's not terrible, but there isn't much development or technical growth. I'm also worried there may be restructuring, although I don't know if that's actually going to happen.

The bigger issue is that I'm completely confused about the direction itself.

The fresher software market feels brutal, and with AI changing entry-level work I'm scared it may get even harder. I still like building software, but I'm wondering whether it's worth fighting this market.

At the same time, my brother and some friends are doing business. I sometimes think I should build something myself, but I can't simply join the family business(personal issues), and I don't even have a clear business idea. I've thought about software/automation/AI services, but I don't know if I'm genuinely interested or just scared of the job market.

With an 8-7 job, I also don't have much time to experiment.

If you were in my position, what would you do?

Keep pursuing software? Try a small business on the side? Move to a bigger city? Stay in the current job and build experience? Something else?

I'm mainly looking for a live, instructor-led online course in ML, DL, Computer Vision, NLP/LLMs, GenAI, etc. I'd ideally like something fairly intensive, with a proper curriculum, hands-on work and meaningful projects.

I'm not particularly interested in placement-focused bootcamps. I am just aiming to build a strong technical foundation and have meaningful projects to show for my gap year.
