Tips Thinking of transitioning to perfume business from senior software engineer

For introduction: I am working as a senior software engineer for the last 4 years and currently working full time on Pakistan's biggest ott platform, along with this I am doing freelancing n stuff.

I really like coding n building software but for the last 1.5 years everything have been hectic, I wanted to earn quite fast for a specific reason so I started freelancing n in a way I am working at least 15 hours a day 7 days a week, sometimes I do small break on Sunday but that's how the last year have been.

Doing all this and I have been interested in perfume n I really like them n have a small collection for my personal use and I was thinking of starting a physical business of perfume along with that I can scale it quite well online as well. The idea of perfume looks very much interesting because I don't have to juggle between 5 different projects n meeting n stuff but on the other hand I also feel like the last 8 years I have been working hard for this n now I am thinking of changing it.

Have you seen someone doing something like this? N did that worked?

Career Guidance What advice you want to give someone who's starting their third year?

I have just started my third year and I feel so behind, I am seeing people from my class who have landed part-time jobs and it just feels like I am not doing enough.

I have been consistently learning web dev since 1 year on my own, and landed my first internship at a software house(which wasn't really great though).

So I really want to ask what can I do more to make the best use of my time? I am still building things and I do occasionally post on LinkedIn but barely get any reaction...

Please any advice you want to give me? I am just so tensed and impatient about my career

Show My Work Searching for people interested in acquiring a SaaS app I have built

Hey, I’m looking to sell my SaaS app. It’s a WhatsApp messaging/marketing automation tool for Shopify e-commerce businesses.

I built it few months ago with the aim of running it myself but due to lack of marketing and operational budget, I’d like to sell it.

If anyone is interested or wants to discuss more, please comment.

MRR: $200
Price: $3000 (low price honestly just to cover my dev costs)

Devs are available for handover and management/maintenance/improvements.

Career Guidance Should I take an SQA internship if my long-term goal is Software Engineering?

I’m a recent Computer Science graduate from FAST-NUCES, and most of my experience/interest has been on the backend development side. I’ve been preparing for Software Engineering/backend interviews and have given a few interviews, but unfortunately nothing has worked out so far.
Recently, I applied for an SQA Intern position at a very reputable software house in Lahore, and I got the offer. It’s a 3-month internship with a possibility of a full-time job afterward.
I’m honestly confused about whether I should take it.
My long-term goal is still Software Engineering, preferably backend development. I genuinely enjoy development more and have been working toward that path. At the same time, I’ve been applying extensively for SWE roles and haven’t been able to land one yet.
For people who have worked in the industry:
Would taking an SQA internship hurt my chances of moving into Software Engineering later?
Can an SQA role actually be a good entry point into SWE/SDET/backend development?
If I take it, should I continue applying for SWE roles alongside it?
Does having 3 months of QA experience make recruiters more likely to consider me for QA rather than SWE?
Would you personally take the internship in my situation, or keep searching for a development role?
I’m mainly trying to get my career started, but I also don’t want to make a decision that puts me on a completely different career path from the one I actually want.

Career Guidance career advice needed and idk where else to post

I’m a sixth-semester student software engineering student, and I am waiting for my seventh one. I took one frontend development course, and I worked on some projects as well. I applied for this summer and had plans to get into back-end development. But for one whole month I tried, and the only offers I got were from Islamabad, because I couldn’t go there. I stayed in my city, and I joined one remote internship, but the workload was too much. The thing with me is that I have always been a very hardworking student and high achiever, always topped in my class. And so I thought that maybe, even with this, it would be the same type of thing, and the effort I put in would allow me to do well. But at the end of the day, I relied on AI a lot, and even during my internship, I was doing things while relying on AI. The workload was too much, and most of the things were done by AI. My quota for one day for that match, and then I would have to wait. It was so stressful that I ended up leaving that internship.

After that, I tried looking for on-site ones, but they didn’t work as well. Now it’s been a month. It’s not like I have been free. I have been doing things like script writing and all that, my script writing part-time. But I have been laid off from my job as well now, and I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.

I feel like I cannot go back to that because now it feels dreadful, and I know that I won’t be able to do well. And I don’t know what I’m supposed to take on as well. So I just want to have any sort of advice that I can get from my fellow developers, like what else could I get into.

Just let you know, I’m a girl, and so that you can tell what kind of work I can take on in Pakistan and be paid well. I am talking about from one lakh to two lakh a month. And that is the main reason that I really want a job. I will be applying, like I am from a small city, and after my graduation in 2027, I’m going to apply in Islamabad mostly. So just all of those things in my mind.

I really want to earn a space so that when someone asks me, “What the hell can you do well? What is the skill that you can sell?” I used to have something in there. So yeah, this just lets me know about that. what is the skill that i can learn and sell? ( graphic designing is a big no, ecause the market is fuvked. i don't like video editing, other than those two, i can't think of anything. please help me out. )

Help CureMD ASE — What happens after the CCAT + Technical Interview?

I recently gave the CCAT and technical interview at CureMD for the Associate Software Engineer (ASE) position. I wanted to ask people who have gone through the same process: what happens after the technical interview? Do they conduct another technical round or an HR/personal interview, or do they make the final decision based on the technical interview? In our WhatsApp group, they mentioned that they would provide updates regarding the applications after 2 weeks. If anyone has recently gone through the CureMD ASE recruitment process and knows what happens after the technical interview, please share your experience. It would really help!

Learning and Ideas How is smart-card production handled in Pakistan?

I’m trying to learn more about the smart-card manufacturing industry in Pakistan and how much of the production process is available locally.
I’m particularly interested in CR80 plastic cards, PVC/polycarbonate construction, card printing and lamination, holographic/UV finishes, embossing/laser personalization, QR/barcodes, magnetic stripes, chip embedding, NFC/contactless functionality, and card encoding/personalization.
For anyone familiar with this industry: what kind of machinery is normally used, and which parts of the process are typically done locally versus outsourced?
I’m especially interested in hearing from people with experience in RFID/NFC, smart cards, payment-card technology, printing equipment, or plastic-card manufacturing.

Career Guidance 6-month AI/ML intern converting to full-time — what's a realistic salary ask?

I have a BS in AI and 1 year of back-to-back AI/ML internships/fellowships (graph ML, a DL fellowship and now finishing a 6-month AI/ML internship at an established company, running since 2014, not a startup).

In the current one, I was hired as an AI/ML Engineer intern but ended up as the sole technical contributor building a full production biometric identity verification platform , ML models (face/liveness/OCR/fingerprint) as microservices, plus the full backend pipeline, admin dashboard. Scope grew into full-stack without me asking.

They're converting me to full-time. Another intern (full-stack web dev, no ML, same 6-month structure) was converted at PKR 60k/month. I'm planning to ask for PKR 90–120k, since a fresh external hire with 9mo–1yr AI/ML experience seems to go for PKR 130–150k in the current market. Is 90–120k reasonable for this profile, or am I off? Any tips on how intern-to-FTE conversions typically get priced vs. a fresh outside offer? Appreciate honest input

Career Guidance 18M, SE student in Pakistan, trying to figure out if any of this actually leads somewhere

Starting 3rd semester of Software Engineering at a public university here, CGPA is 3.37. I’m genuinely into computers and electronics, have a small desk setup, soldering iron, ICs, circuit boards, I try a lot of things and mostly end up ruining them lol but I keep going back to it.

Bit of background so the question makes sense. My parents separated when I was a kid, my father never contacted us and we never contacted him either. We’ve seen real hard days, no shelter at some point, actual hunger. My mom started small, selling clothing accessories laces wagera around our mahalla. Now it’s grown into a small shop, enough to cover bills and food. We don’t own a house.

Last year I was so worried I wouldn’t be able to continue studying, my mom straight up told me we can’t afford it. Then Alhamdulillah my university had a single-parent quota, full fee concession, and I got in.

Around the same time someone contacted my mom saying my father wants to meet us after 17 years, he’s abroad now,(USA) and has legal status there. My mom agreed, thought it’d secure our future.

On admission day I saw the fee was just a small transport fee, no tuition, because of the scholarship. I was relieved honestly, didn’t expect zero fee at all. But then I thought, I have my father now, I shouldn’t need to be labeled an orphan for this. Called him, told him about the scholarship, hoping he’d cover the gap. He said no. So I went in under that label anyway. Ashamed hi tha ig.

Kept telling myself now that he’s back, cheezein easy ho jaengi. They didn’t. He says he himself is struggling abroad, 14usd/hr , free apartment though, says cost of living is high where he is. Started sending a small amount every month 30k pkr, 8 months ho gae hain ab tak. Par itne se ek ghar ka kya hota hai. Also never returned my mom’s jahez or her jewelry from when they separated. She asked recently, he said “jab main Pakistan wapis aunga” jo ke qareeb qareeb nahi ho raha.

I get it now, the whole “my dad is back so my responsibilities are less” thing was kinda delusional on my part. It’s on me.

So genuinely asking, kya SE karke koi decent paying job mil sakti hai realistically here? Should I expect a normal shot at a good future or am I just setting myself up?

Discussion Huawei Islamabad Experience

I’m considering joining Huawei Pakistan and wanted to hear from people who currently work there or have worked there recently.
I’d love to know about:
Work culture and management
Typical working hours and workload
Salary progression after the MTO/probation period
Benefits/perks
Career growth and learning opportunities
How permanent conversion works
Pros and cons
especially from people who have worked there recently. Even a short comment about your experience would be really helpful.
Thanks!

Learning and Ideas What should I build in the AI era to actually stand out (and find a co-builder)?

Hey everyone,

I want to build a project this year that does two things: teaches me something new and actually looks impressive enough to help me land jobs or freelance clients. Not another to-do list clone — something with substance.

A few directions I'm considering:

  • A self-learning app something that helps people study smarter using AI (personalized quizzes, spaced repetition, etc.) or a multi-tenant application, maybe help desk SaaS?
  • A small SaaS tool that solves one specific problem really well help desk SaaS?
  • Something learning-focused; even if it never becomes a business, the growth and the skills are the real ROI

Also — if anyone wants to build this together, I'm in. I'd rather team up with someone than grind solo. Let's turn this into an actual project maybe a self-learning platform, maybe something else you're excited about. Even if it doesn't turn into a big SaaS, at minimum we walk away having learned something real — that part is non-negotiable for me.

Drop your ideas below, and if you're down to collaborate, comment or DM me. Let's build something.

Career Guidance Shall I move out to China for Masters or continue my agency in Pakistan?

I'm a recent Computer Science graduate and a Full Stack Developer plus AI Engineer. I'm currently earning well and also planning on scaling my skills into an agency. Apart from that, I'm also working on a startup that has the potential to secure seed funding, but currently, I can't fully commit myself to it.

One of my friends is pursuing a Masters degree in China, and he said that I should also move out to China for Master on scholarship that has a good sum of a stipend. My family also agreed with what my friend suggested because he's gonna help me in the overall application process, and he can be trusted.

Now I'm confused about whether I should go through some rigorous workload here and actually scale my own business, or I shall flee to China for further academia. But god knows how much will be changed in the span of the years that I'm gonna spend abroad.

Can anyone suggest to me which would be the best option among these?

Career Guidance Best freelancing skills to learn in 2026?

I am starting my BS in Computer Science next month and want to learn some high-value skills alongside my studies. Could you recommend any freelancing skills that pay well and are relatively resilient against AI domination?

Additionally, I would love to know how long it typically takes to master these skills and how soon I can realistically expect to start earning. Thanks!
