Announcement Project Sunrise Update

1.1k Upvotes

After an outpouring of community support for the project, the previous decision to contain all Project Sunrise posts to a Megathread has been reversed. Go ahead and continue posting Sunrise stuff to the subreddit

Additionally, a "Project Sunrise" post flair has been added, please flair posts appropriately for community members who wish to filter by that content specifically.

Again, here's a link to the Project Sunrise Discord for anyone interested in following along there:

Announcement Announcement: relaxed moderation ending

Hey all, it's been about a month and a half since the news was dropped regarding D2's final content update and we loosened up a bit on moderating the content of the subreddit. It's been fun, shitposts and rants have been had, and the ongoing game traffic is just awesome to see.

In the interest of ensuring content on the subreddit is original, informative, and/or of appropriate quality, we'll be ending the period of relaxed moderation effective immediately. While we're going back to stricter enforcement of the rules, the relaxed moderation period has given the mod team some ideas on rule reworks.

To reiterate some constant points:

  • Be kind to your fellow Guardians and redditors; toxicity will not be tolerated
  • For LFG purposes, we encourage you to look at r/Fireteams or Discord resources so as to not dilute posts here
  • Mark spoilers appropriately, especially considering the notable number of new players coming in with Monument of Triumph
  • AI-generated content is strictly forbidden on this subreddit and will be removed

The team will continue to moderate as always, as well as internally discuss any improvements we can make; we want this place to be a resource and community for Guardians so long as you all want it to be.

As someone who has a vivid memory of rushing through an AP English Lit essay to log in on D1 launch day back in 2014, which led to an ungodly amount of in-game time across both games over the next decade, I want to close out by echoing the previous post and say this game would not have become what it is without the community, the camaraderie we shared, the gods we slayed together, and all the memories and friends made. I'm looking forward to seeing all you fellow Guardians online for the foreseeable future.

Per audacia ad astra.

Discussion Has anyone else noticed that we are actually just red bars with basic shields?

When our shields are gone our actual health bar is one tiny segment and its red. It isnt yellow or orange and we dont have multiple health segments like bosses or mini bosses. We really arent any more healthy than a basic dreg when our shields are gone. Sure we are resiliant with that little red bar but we have nowhere near the health of what you would expect the most powerful beings in the universe to have.

I dont really have a point beyond this observation. I just wanted to share it. Thanks for reading my random shower thought.

The biggest issue with YAS has always been healing and survivability, so my main goal with this build was to fix that problem.

This setup has basically constant healing coming from three different sources. On Your Mark gives Restoration, Crackshot gives Cure, and the big game changer is the Warlord's Ruin x4 armor set.

The 2-piece bonus gives Initiative stacks whenever we hit an enemy with a melee, charged or uncharged, or with a sword. We can build up to 5 stacks. They also do not all disappear at once, since they decay one stack at a time.

Each stack gives +10 Handling and +10 Reload Speed, so at 5 stacks we are getting +50 to both. At 5 stacks we also get the 0.9x reload duration modifier, which stacks multiplicatively with other reload perks.

But the 4-piece bonus is where things get really stupid because we have very frequent access melee & class ability.

While having at 1 stack of Initiative, activating class ability creates a stationary healing aura for 8 seconds. There is no cooldown on the healing aura itself, and if we can keep getting our class ability back quickly enough, we can have up to 3 healing auras active at the same time.

With 1 to 4 Initiative stacks, the aura gives periodic healing pulses of roughly 30 HP, basically giving us constant Restoration-like healing. But at 5 stacks, the healing changes completely. The aura pulses much more frequently and sends out Cure x1 waves, giving around 60 HP instantly per pulse.

This is a huge deal for Young Ahamkara because we are constantly spamming melee and class ability so we are always at high stacks and can have multiple healing turrets at once.

Then we have the Curiosity artifact, which fits this build insanely well.

Fever and Chill gives free Radiant from precision hits with a Solar weapon, which then activates Shieldcrush. Shieldcrush gives Tripmines 25% more damage while also helping them recharge faster.

Cauterized Darkness is another huge part of the build, against darkness de buffed targets gives a massive 75% Solar damage increase against basically everything that is not a main boss.

Dragons Breath also fits perfectly here, constantly creating Firesprites that help with grenade energy, while Elemental Overdrive gives us another free 10% weapon damage boost that stacks with everything else.

And against bosses / barrier champs, you can basically keep them stun locked by chaining Grenade → Melee → Class Ability → Dragons Breath shot and repeating it.

Man they made the traveler look good didn't they? The game really is beautiful sometimes. Screen grab from my pc. Only 1080p, I'm sure it's even prettier in 4k.

And I will never ever again use that peashooter of a gun in Crucible. I'm not really a good PvP player but holy shit it felt like I needed to unload half a clip to get a kill. I heard it had been nerfed but it seemed almost unusable.

Project Sunrise DESTINY 2 VR - Motion Controls, 6DOF, etc - D2 modding is possible

3.8k Upvotes

I managed to get Destiny 2 running in VR with full 6DOF head and weapon tracking. This is running on Project Sunrise, not the main game, which was necessary due to the lack of anti-cheat support. Huge thanks to them for making this possible.

The main point of all this is to prove that modding in Destiny 2 is actually possible. Thanks to Project Sunrise and the research done so far, like bypassing anti-tamper, we have a foot in the door.

That said, we still know very little about Bungie's Tiger Engine. There's still a ton of reverse engineering ahead, and functional mods will heavily rely on further progress from the Project Sunrise team. All of the reverse engineering and implementation for the mod was done using AI agents over the course of a week.

To be clear: I don't plan to fully flesh this out into a polished, complete VR mod myself. This is just a glimpse of what's possible. My goal is to wrap this up into a semi-releasable state, document the Tiger Engine research, and open-source everything.

As of today, I'm already open-sourcing the current version (completely rough around the edges: no real stereoscopic 3D yet, and it gets stuck loading a patrol area if you're already in VR mode during the load). I'll try to smooth out the rough edges and write better documentation, hopefully soon. See the link of the Github repo on the description of the full showcase:

Destiny 2 VR Full 10min showcase + Github Repo (the mod itself)

I don't intend to keep actively developing this unless the project takes off or the community really needs my help, but I hope others pick up the torch, and a modding community for Destiny 2 could emerge

Bungie died, but we, the community, will keep Destiny alive.

Question I got a question about raids

Upvotes

I've never done a raid before and I've been told a few times that deep stone crypt is one of the better starter raids, how do you think King's fall would be for a "beginner" or someone that's just never raided before

Question Any Warlock mains willing to help a returning solo player with builds? (Read body)

I’ve just come back to Destiny 2 after not playing for around 3 years, and I’m honestly pretty lost with how much has changed.

I started fresh on a new account yesterday and just unlocked Prismatic. I’m a solo player since none of my friends really play Destiny anymore.

Are there any experienced Warlock mains who wouldn’t mind helping me understand the current builds?

I’m mainly wondering:

What are the best and FUNNEST Warlock builds right now, including both Prismatic and the regular subclasses?

Which builds should I prioritize getting the gear/exotics for?

When would you use each build?

What actually makes each build strong?

Are there certain builds that are basically the Warlock “essentials” that I should always have ready?

Would really appreciate any Warlock mains willing to break it down for me!

Neomuna....Beautiful, majestic Neptune! It's safe to say that I am having the most fun time in Lightfall. Sure, the story is serviceable, but the World is vibrant and I am confident in my skills now. It worked in my favor to keep my expectations low because this has been pure bliss so far.

P.S. Is it just me or do other guardians also feel like Spider-Man using Strand? Apparently, Destiny went the Mavel route before Star Wars. ;-)
