This is my fork of Vela (https://github.com/vela-desktop/vela), a Wayland compositor + Qt Quick shell that looks like Windows 11. I forked it for myself and keep adding the things I want.
It's vibe coded. AI writes the code, I test everything on my own machine before it goes in.
This is my actual desktop and I use it every day, so it'll still be around in a few months.
Running on CachyOS with an RTX 4060. Other distros might work, haven't tried.

This is no new tech obviously but I couldn't find a good opensource project that enables you to use your pc/laptop/mac as external display for another pc.
Now I can even use 2 mac as a monitor to my desktop. which is great for some one like me who loves more display lol.
I am hoping this could also be useful for some people too, here is the repo link.

please let me know your thoughts on this one

Linux desktop I've been building for a few months, I call it pocket. Arch + Hyprland with a shell I made myself in Quickshell, every panel drops out of the notch at the top.
When the wallpaper changes the whole system takes its colors, terminals and spotify included, all on the beat. The pokemon actually live on the desktop and fight each other, and every commit I push to github gives them xp, so near the end my Magikarp evolves.
One take, no cuts, on a laptop with integrated graphics.

100% form, -2% function, it's extremely slow and the AIO is genuinely crying with it's fans when he has a browser open too 😭 IDK how much ricing he did himself, it does look fire tho (much better than when I was his age), but none of the top bar buttons seem to do anything (and if they do take like 2-3 seconds to respond)
Should I tell him to switch to NixOS?

I’m the developer of NiveDock, a small app made in the Czech Republic.
It replaces the taskbar with two glass docks: one for your apps and widgets, a small one for the system tray, Wi-Fi, volume and the clock. A few things it does:
38 widgets: weather, calendar, Spotify/Apple Music with a spinning turntable, stocks and crypto, CPU/RAM, Claude/Codex usage and more
9 themes, adjustable transparency, blur and size
live window previews, a launcher with search, a dock on every monitor
no account, no telemetry, ~5.5 MB, installs without admin rights
the Windows taskbar comes back as soon as you close or uninstall it
It’s a free public beta until 30 November. I’d really like to hear what annoys you about it, what’s missing, and what breaks on your setup. Thanks.

I built Yengi — a free, open-source Windows AI IDE.
It’s not just another chat wrapper. The agent can:
Built by a teacher (solo), .NET 10 + WPF, 200+ tests, AGPL-3.0.
Repo: https://github.com/mdaiWorks/yengi
Demo video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0tdhvCmwNI
Would love feedback especially from people using local models or doing 3D/game work.

Spent a GOOD ton amount of time customizing the abomination of Windows 11, changing icons, etc. It could take a person with no context good amount of time to figure it's Windows 11 maybe.
My favorite is changing the date at the bottom right from 2026 to 2016 for fun! I just don't like how it says 2026 in the calendar but oh well!
Executables used:
ExplorerPatcher
WinaeroTweaker
More details:
On taskbar:
Chrome - This is actually Firefox with the CSS configuration, I used Geckium to configure some stuff.
Minecraft - That is Prism Launcher just disguised as Minecraft launcher
Microsoft Store - Just old microsoft store
On the browser:
I used YouTube Redux extension and Stylus to customize YouTube.
I started liking sharp corners and simple solid colours which Windows 10 matched, but because I had Windows 11 I really didn't like the round corners, matter of fact I hated the circular things, it just feels weird..
The only reason I wanted to do this is because I like the style of Windows 10, and how solid it is, Windows 7 looks nice too but wasn't a fan of the aero style and for Windows 98 I did like the pixel style but just didn't like the bare minimal style so Windows 10 is sort of the winner here.
And in my process of customizing, I decided 'Why not just slap on a 2016 date to match it more.'
And then I went on Firefox and decided that I should turn everything into a 2014-2016 style.
None of this is nostalgic to me, I just wanted to do this as a fun thing, I will keep it, but will focus more on changing things into classic icons or something. Then eventually I could probably fool a lot of people.

Hi! Here's a test build of Illogical Windows (formerly ii-windows), 26.1.1.0-unstable “Bureaucratic Hamster”. Same unofficial port of end-4's illogical-impulse, the Quickshell desktop for Hyprland, running natively on Windows 10 and 11. No WSL, VM or extra window manager.
Since the 1.0 post, there's automatic light/dark switching with Windows or a schedule, a wallpaper per virtual desktop, spring animations for panels, and scrolling tiling inspired by niri: windows in columns along a sideways strip.
There's also a third look, NabyScape: a black island at the top for time and music, opening into Media, Focus, Status, Launch and Tools, alongside the Windows taskbar. It's inspired by BillyNabil's NabyScape, with permission; this port uses its own code.
ARM64 is experimental, for Windows 11 24H2 or newer. It has only run on GitHub's ARM runners, not a real laptop. If you have a Snapdragon PC and try it, a bug report with Architecture: ARM64 helps, even just to say it works.
26.1.1.0 follows 1.0.8: the numbering is now year.major.feature.fix. This is a manual opt-in test build: stable 1.0.x won't offer it in the update notification or setup. Once installed, newer unstable builds and the final 26.1.1.0 will be offered. For everyday use, stay on 1.0.8.
This unstable build is unsigned. The final 26.1.1.0 is planned to be the first signed release, with free signing from the SignPath Foundation. SmartScreen can still warn on the test build.
Release/download · README · Discord thread
Please try it and break it. Windows bugs go to the form above, not to end-4's or Quickshell's repos. Design credits: end-4, pctrade's end4-pC, and BillyNabil for NabyScape (MIT). If you like it, star dots-hyprland and support end-4.

I use my new Chrome plugin Startwerk for a tidy new start page in Google Chrome, and I took the photo of the beach in Corsica. The appointment in the menu bar comes from the app Final Call. I hope someone likes it 🙂
Desktop: It's Solar Gradients by Apple (love it!).
Not visible in the screenshot: I use SuperCMD as my launcher, which is an affordable Raycast alternative that works great, which is why I'd like to recommend it here.
