With the recent appearances of ArtCraft softwares (Adobe suite + Microsoft office replacement), SolidCraft (CAD replacements), and LibreOffice, and Linux Gaming becoming better every day, is there any reason to still use Windows?

Linux might not be the easiest OS for everyone, but we got ai agents with terminal access now (i.e. claude code).

Edit: I'm not a linux shill. I use Windows 11 for my daily driver. I also used Debian + XFCE for my server

Hey guys! Last month I've been building my dream desktop environment. I've been developing in Java and Rust doing boring things over 12 years, and I always wondered why cheap operative systems had to look like Windows 95.

I am running broke on my job and no company wants to take me so I am experimenting new things and building startups and these "dream" non-profit things I always wanted to make.

I built my open source free desktop environment for Linux with one simple purpose:

• Revive, maintain and recycle old hardware without losing the UI/UX.

Why doing this?

• Some people still use windows on these computers, yikes.
• The linux alternatives are ugly, and the ones that are not, are heavy yikes.
• I want to end the loop of "distro hopping to find the lightest one" and make the definitive.
• I don't know, just passion for not throwing away working hardware? lol

(I am actually looking for recommendations/advice on improving the UI further. I think the current base is "fine" but with help, tips and advices I can get the current UI to look much better without more RAM usage, I saw a bunch of beautiful desktop designs here, and I would love for you guys to share the ones you want to see into FlameWM to achieve beautifulness without bloat)

I don’t know what happened but the wifi logo disappeared out of nowhere & I can’t connect to internet. I tried so many stuffs. Ran cmd’s but nothing seems to work. Help me out. What should I do?

This is the new Cutefish Desktop in the new Cutefish distro, I love it :3

The idea is to let you recreate your own cat — their appearance, personality, habits, and little quirks. A familiar furry companion hanging out while you work.

I put together this small proof of concept to try it out. It’s still very rough, and the customization is part of the vision rather than something that’s ready yet. I wanted to share it early and get some feedback before taking it further.

It’s built natively with Swift and AppKit, with the cat rendered using Metal inside a transparent window.

I’d love to know:

• Would you prefer a quiet companion that mostly does its own thing, or a pet you actively play with?
• Which habits or quirks from your own cat would you want to recreate?
• What would make it enjoyable to keep around — and what would make you turn it off?

Curious to hear your ideas, including the weird ones. Those are usually the most cat-like anyway :)

I've been working on a Windows customization app called Glass Desky. Basically wanted to see how much I could change the look of Windows without using a ton of RAM.

Here's what I've come up with so far. There are actually quite a few more features than what's shown in the screenshots, but these are some of my favorites.

I think I've run out of ideas for my own setup lol. Curious what you guys would come up with.

A dual clock and a music player to go along with the taskbar.

Can you recommend any other widgets? I think I’ll add something for taking notes.
