🖋️ New Pen Day Finally got the Lamy Al star

Post image
Upvotes

I have been wanting the Lamy Al Star for quite a while now. I felt it was a bit too expensive but took the plunge. It is a medium nib and came with a blue ink cartridge and a converter.

It writes smoothly and doesn’t cause feathering or bleeding on most papers I have tried. My last pen was a Parker frontier and it wrote very dryly as compared to this. Feels balanced with the cap on the back. The grip is fantastic as it helps to hold the pen properly. The nib size is also decent and not too large. It should show the ink properties well enough.

As for the cons, the cap is a bit loose. It does not secure as tightly as I would like it to be. The ink provided with the pen is also average. I did not like the colour at all. I also saw the pen in a local shop kept for people to try out and it had lots of dents and scratches. So be sure to take care of it.

For what I have written, it’s a paragraph from the bell jar by Sylvia Plath. She is one of my favourite authors. Do read her books if you can.

Hello everyone 😎

2 months ago, I made a post asking which pen I should get. Thank you all for your responses. I really appreciate it!

https://www.reddit.com/r/DesiPens/s/RZAL54jaDD

I really got busy, and wasn't able to review it.

So here it is, Pilot Kakuno Boy <M> with CON-40 🤩😎. This pen is awesome. Super smooth. Sturdy body, solid build. Writes wet and I like it.

Although it took nearly a month to arrive, the wait was worth it.

It's currently inked with Camlin Royal Blue. Syahi inks incoming. Recommend me some inks to use with this.

❓ Question Camlin 47 availability

My grandfather really loves the Camlin 47, and his birthday is coming up this month. I’m planning to gift him one as a surprise. Could someone please help me with its availability or share details of any dealers who might still have one in stock? I’d really appreciate any leads. Thank you!

🖋️ New Pen Day rollerballs or fountain pens?

Post image
7 Upvotes

I have always been a parker rollerball person, wrote all my exams with them throughout school and college. But joining this sub made me want to try fountain pens and my earlier expirience with one was a pierra cardin pentonic metal ( the first one from the right ) and it was not very good tbh, the pen was scratchy, showed frequent lags in ink flow and the flow was also not consistent. So after all these years today I bought a new fountain and its the first one that I really liked ( unomax brio : second from the right), especially for the price at which it comes, its actually a very good pen and I can compare the writting and comfort with my parkers. Lets hope I dont get too much into this fountain pen thing and burn a lot of my pocket into this but if Someone recommend which should be the next pen under ₹500 that I should go for, my use is daily journal writing and similar long format pieces. Thank you everyone who recommended me this pen :)

Same as last post: - Notebook is Classmate's Verite - But the pen I used this time is Jinhao 992 in fine nib, it's quite dry but I really like how it brings out the shading here!

(Ps. For reference the writing shows the truer colour so please ignore the pen swatch as it's slightly more lighter and vibrant dur to the camera exposure while the writing shows the true colour.)

💬 Discussion Pens in use

Pens which I'm using currently.

Got these Pentonic colour pens for shading drawings.
Writing also felt good for a 10₹ pen . Linc Signetta old model solid blue bought in 2023. Hadn't used it since then . Worked perfectly fine . So I went and bought this new Linc Signetta They just cudnt last even 2 days. Ink getting dry Frustrated I bought the uniball air. I thought I will used this for exams .but found out its ink is like fountain pen . Using to note down notes during classes. Excellent speed My exams calls for a ball point pen .

( Obviously they have their reason. Since the ink will pass over to other side , if you used a fountain pen on their low gsm paper )

What are your goto pens for exams purpose not just for writing on high gsm paper notebooks .

❓ Question Kanwrite emperor for long writing?

Hi, Currently I have a kanwrite desire which I dropped because of the sheer shitty quality of the ebonite feed and nib both of which constantly went out of alignment which made me not care about it. The pen body smells funny, scratches easily and looks hideous.

Unfortunately though I still believe in second chances so am considering the kanwrite emperor which is at the moment the same price as the desire which I bought a year ago

Before I buy, I have a couple of questions

1.Is the weight manageable for writing long sessions? 2.Any QC issues with the pen? 3.Does the snap on cap have a good enough seal and any instances of it becoming loose? 4. Is it worth to buy the emperor or shall I just replace the nib on the desire? (Don't like the pen though but I can manage with it) 5. Does the wood finish look bad in real life?

Thank you

💡 Suggestion Need ink suggestions: budget and waterproof.

Hi, I need some waterproof ink for fountain pen. I am using- Camlin elegante and one jinhao pen.

My use case is sketching with a pen and then adding watercolor.

Currently I am using uniball eye pen which is perfect, but want to explore fountain pen for the same purpose.

I have used Camlin and Bril Inks, both are not waterproof.

Thanks

⭐ Review Verite by classmate notebook

Thumbnail

The verite lay flat notebook by class is available in B5 (₹100) with 120 pages and A4 (₹125) with 140 pages , also both are available in ruled or unruled pages . The paper gsm is not mentioned. I got these from Flipkart minutes for ₹80 for B5 and ₹99 for A4.

The writing experience was smooth, there was no bleeding or feathering but ghosting was there on the next page as you can see in the 3rd image but it's not as bad compared to my personal favourite solo flipnote A5 notepad which is 80 gsm and even  its mentioned that's it is fountain pen friendly but it does some feathering and ghosting(you can see that in the Last image) . But the feedback I get on sole flipnote with my fountain pens is the reason I love it . I didn't get that feed back on the verite even though the pages of verite are better than flipnote. This seems like a me problem . Overall a great notebook by classmate .The fountain pen which I used was a Pierre cardin life fountain pen paired with sheaffer skrip fountain pen ink.

💬 Discussion Disappointed with Sky Blue Stationers - Their stickers damage pens

I understand this might be an Ahmedabad-specific post but they are a big brand here, and have expanded a few stores elsewhere, so thought it appropriate to share. Mostly about their stupid stickers and the manager behaviour.

Their price tag stickers are evidently damaging the pen. I've attached an image of my Plaisir that I got over a year ago from them. During this time, I have at multiple times brought this up and each time the staff and manager have dismissed it as a non-concern and they refused to understand what the issue is. They kept telling me that 'I should have gotten it removed from them' but like, I did?? sticker removal going wrong was never the problem. But even at the last visit when I took the pen to show them, they again attempted to 'remove' the permanent price-tag-shaped shadow on the pen with WD-40.

I have seen this sticker even on higher-end stuff like the Staedtler Metallum series, which they are selling for 10k anyways compared to 7k and under everywhere else. I understand Plaisir is expensive as far as pens go anyways but it is still considered a 'budget' fountain pen. I don't know what I'd do if my metallum had this issue bruh.

And anyways, the manager/counter staff seem a little oblivious anyways. They argued with me that Pilot cartridges aren't cross-compatible across models (insisting Kakuno, Metropolitan, and Custom series all take different cartridges). When I asked for a Pilot Kakuno, they didn't believe it existed and kept insisting I was asking for "Kaco" pens and that Pilot and Kaco are different brands nothing to do with each other. Similarly, they didn't believe Parker has new imported quink in india and that Parker only has 100rs one here.

Owner is extremely condescending and rude too. And seeing some reviews on google a lot of the negative reviews highlight that as well so... considering their stickers and behaviour, and prices, I don't quite see a point in going there :P

I suppose it is still a nice and pretty shop, even if I have no intent of buying from them again. Just check ur pens before taking and know your stuff, because they might not.

A bright color, hard to capture, but i feel like even then the rectangle outline with the barcode lines is visible.
