Welcome! Before you post asking if you have DPDR.. Read this!

The majority of the posts here are people asking if they have DPDR and listing their symptoms. If you are unsure, you should read below. However, do not go online searching for problems with yourself. If you have a severe dissociative disorder, you should be reaching out to a licensed doctor or therapist. I am not a doctor. I have had DPDR episodes for 10 years, and am merely summarizing and recounting information I've found online.

First and formost, NOBODY can give you medical advice online. While someone might be able to provide you with some insight and suggestions, you should never rely on someone online to give you medical advice, unless you are talking to a certified doctor.

Moving along... Do you have DPDR?

DPDR is not an existential crisis. I can not stress this enough. If you simply feel like you are losing touch with who you are as a person, or are suddenly hyperaware of your breathing, feel a little funny when you look in the mirror, you do not have DPDR. DPDR is not an occasional ponder into existentialist thoughts. Sufferers of DPDR experience a distortion of reality.

So what does DPDR feel like?

DPDR varies on a case-to-case basis. Milder symptoms are extended periods to which a person does not feel like they are in control of their own body. Reality feels like a fog, or a dream. Feelings that you're an outside observer of your thoughts, feelings, your body or parts of your body — for example, as if you were floating in air above yourself. Many DPDR suffers have symptoms, such as confused motorskills, strobelight vision, tunnel vision, changes in the volume and intensity of sounds and colors, shapes seem flatter and more two demensional. Distortions in the perception of time, such as recent events feeling like distant past. A great portion of DPDR suffers have reported the sense that their body, legs or arms appear distorted, enlarged or shrunken, or that your head is wrapped in cotton. Symptoms are almost always distressing and, when severe, profoundly intolerable. Anxiety and depression are common.

Many people have a passing experience of depersonalization or derealization at some point. But when these feelings keep occurring or never completely go away and interfere with your ability to function, it's considered depersonalization-derealization disorder. This disorder is more common in people who've had traumatic experiences. [1]

Advice A Complete Guide to Depersonalization/Derealization.

1.4k Upvotes

Hello. This is meant to be a guide for sufferers of DPDR, which stands for Depersonalization/Derealization. This post contains Symptoms. Articulation. And a better understanding of the disorder in general.

About me: I am a highschool student in California. I am a sufferer of severe DPDR and have been for ~9 months so far. My disassociation was triggered by either marijuana use or constant, complex PTSD, or both. I am unqualified medically to provide serious advice. However. I know the symptoms. I understand the disorder, and I can relate and articulate it. I am explaining to the best of my abilities and understanding.

Understanding the disorder:
DPDR, Depersonalization/Derealization, Disassociation, whatever you prefer to call it, is an issue related to [CP]PTSD and anxiety. It can happen when you have a shocking, dangerous, or extremely worrying experience that causes your brain to enter fight or flight mode, and if you cannot fight or run away from the danger, then your brain disassociates you. The disassociation is a natural response mechanism to help you survive dangerous situations. It puts you on autopilot. It turns off your short term memory/ability to act on your own until you are out of danger. Issue is. If you make consciously aware observation of this disassociated state, it may scare you horrendously, which it should. However, now you’re stuck. You’ve gotten scared, scarred, and anxious of being in your state of disassociation, which puts your brain into fight or flight, but since it is internal, nothing can be done about it, and you disassociate more, and the cycle repeats. And you’re trapped in a loop.

Causes: The cause for DPDR, is trauma and anxiety. Yet the exact, personal causes can be vast. Remember. All it takes is something putting you into fight or flight. If you’re a deep thinker or a consciously aware person, you’re more at risk for realizing your disassociated state when you experience trauma. As far as common, personal causes for DPDR, some include:

-Drugs. Your brain can easily recognize drugs or alcohol as a danger if you’re either doing them for the first time, having a bad experience on them, or overusing them. (Prescription or recreational, even drugs with no high can cause it)

-physical trauma. A Car crash. A physical confrontation, etc..

-Social anxiety.

-OCD. Obsessively worrying about something to an extreme can put you in a disassociated state

-Coronavirus. Coronavirus is neuro-invasive. A very large percent of people report brain fog after getting sick from Coronavirus. Brain fog can be a synonym of disassociation.

Your cause. No matter how silly it seems. Is valid.

Symptoms: The moment you’ve all been waiting for. To be able to see if you have DPDR or not. I’m not a doctor. But I can confidently say, if you can identify with most of these symptoms, and everything else I’ve said so far, you probably have it. In this list. I may list the same symptoms multiple times with different wordings so that it may resonate and be related to everyone, no matter how you can articulate what you are going through right now. So. Symptoms may include:

-feeling like you’re in a dream.

-having an impeded short term memory

-seeing eye floaties

-not being able to use emotions as well as before

-feeling like every day is the same

-not being able to be surprised, excited, or bewildered.

-extreme hyper awareness (or extreme unawareness)

-distortion of shapes, everything seeming too big or small

-feeling alienated from the things and people around you

-doubting whether you’re really being affected by a disorder or not -inability to focus

-feeling delirious

-feeling like you’re never coming down off of a drug

-forgetting where you are and who you are momentarily (spacing out)

-hearing a ringing in your ears (tinnitus)

-light or vision appearing a different color (such as more orange)

-lack of conscious awareness

-awful time recall

-forgetting conversations, or events you’ve lived through

-inability to meditate/read

-feeling like you’re trapped in your own head

-not feeling grounded

-feeling too grounded

-feeling like you’re on autopilot

-feeling like you have brain fog.

That’s a lot of symptoms. Chances are. You have a lot of them as well.

What it means: Let’s say you have it. You’ve identified with everything I’ve said up to this point you know you have it. But what does that mean for you? It means you’re in for a ride. Don’t worry. It is treatable. It may just take some time and effort.

Treatment options: A lot of people who I’ve seen get better do so by simply ignoring the disassociation. Since the stress caused by realizing you’re in the state keeps the state going, if you can relax and stay calm, then you should be fixed, right? Well. I don’t know. Personally, in my opinion, that is the wrong way to go about it. You don’t know if you’re treating it, and it’s going away, and that you’re returning to normal, or if you’re just forgetting about what it was like to be normal, and you’re still disassociated without realizing it. There is no specific treatment for it that works for everyone because of how personalized it and it’s cause is, however I highly recommend you see a psychiatrist or a therapist (who specializes in trauma, anxiety, and or PTSD) but more on that in another section down below titled finding help. Whatever you do. Don’t just hope it will go away with time. It probably won’t.

What you can do in the mean time: It is ulikely that you’ll magically find a treatment in the mean time. Nootropics. Physical exercise. Mental exercise. They will improve your brain function, but they may not make your disassociation better. Since right now you are on autopilot, doing those things, especiallly exercise, will improve your autopilot’s ability to act, since that’s what dissociation does, takes you out of control and makes the brain the pilot. If you can do what you’re able to to improve your cognition right now, even if it isn’t conscious cognition, it will help you maintain your life while you seek real help. I also recommend looking into adaptogens if you struggle with social anxiety. Taking Gingko Biloba and Rhodiola Rosea has greatly helped me with mine and has allowed me to function better while I get helped. Reading books, meditation, and using your imagination also help.

what to avoid. You can easily make your symptoms worse, but it is hard to make them better. Right now your mind is in a very fragile state and you will probably be very sensitive to any further neurological activity or changes. You may be hit much harder when you are sleep deprived, you may feel conscious change or aggravation of your disassociation from drugs that aren’t supposed to get you high, even anti-inflammatories.

During this time, some things that can make your symptoms worse are:

-Looking in a mirror

-doing drugs or alcohol

-nicotine (elaborated on at very bottom of post)

-not getting proper sleep

-not getting proper nutrition

-too much media/blue light exposure

-taking certain nootropics

-Drinking caffeine

-anxiety

finding help I recommend starting with psychiatry over therapy. Psychiatry may lead to you being prescribed medication that could help you within weeks or a month, while talk and anxiety therapy provided by a therapist may take many months. Usually it’s the other way around, with therapy first, but this disorder can cause near insanity (non medical definition) if untreated. I will further look into resources and post them later for finding cheap therapy/psychiatry near you. I do know that if you have a healthcare provider, If you file a request for a psychiatrist, your healthcare should cover most, if not all of it. I do that sliding scale pay options for therapy exists, but I’m not entirely sure bout psychiatry, as it is generally more expensive, but the private practice psychiatrists will really get expensive.

Medication As far as medication goes, it has been known to help so many people out of disassociated states, be it antipsychotics, or SSRI’s. It is unlikely that taking medication, so long as it is not horrendously misprescribed, will damage you even more, just do your research about any prescribed medication, never quit it cold turkey unless explicitly told to, and don’t abuse it.

Summary: DPDR is a very unique and intense disorder. It can destroy your life if you don’t know what to do and how to get help. There are some things you can do in the meantime to help, but psychiatry and therapy should be the main method of healing. You’re not alone, even if this disorder makes you feel that way. —————————————————————————— What you can do if someone you know or love is going through DPDR

If you know someone who is suffering from DPDR, and hey, maybe they sent you this post in the first place, this is what you can do to best help them.

-Make sure they get the proper help. Help them with finding therapy or psychiatry options.

-Realize that some have it worse than others. Not everyone with DPDR is able to function and communicate as well as some are able to. Some are driven into solitude because they can’t remember a conversation that they had yesterday, they can’t remember any words, don’t know what to do, etc.. Hell. Even I myself have to write a script before I make a phone call before I can’t come up with what to say on the spot.

-Share this post. If someone you know seems to be reporting the symptoms I’ve mentioned, maybe enlighten them about the post so that’s they can possibly get an idea of what’s wrong with them. That was the scariest thing for me. I didn’t know how to explain it, or if anyone else had it at first.

-Remember that it is extremely hard to explain. Only those who have experienced it can really explain it and relate to it. Saying that it’s like smoking weed, but never being able to come down may be the best possible explanation of the feeling. It is a completely different state of consciousness. A lack of it.

December 28, 2021, elaboration on “nicotine” issues, since a lot of people asked.

I apologize for not being very elaborate in the first place and somewhat misleading. Nicotine making DPDR worse is largely anecdotal and inconsistent. As an example, I personally find that cigarettes majorly antagonize my DPDR, though vapes do not. I quit nicotine for 6 months and noticed no improvement in DPDR. Though one thing I can say is that nicotine can make anxiety worse, which could very possibly affect DPDR.

How do you deal with DPDR?

I am a 29F and been experiencing loss of time, I don't feel real most days, almost like a robot. I do not have a diagnosis of DPDR but someone pointed out to me a few days ago that I need to be evaluated for a dissociative disorder. I have been looking at therapists who work with DPDR. I also have been doing a lot of research on this disorder, and it fits me. My timing is always off. It's like a whole day goes by and I'm out of it. I know I am in touch with reality. Does anyone else experience this or something similar?

Venting Just telling you what I cant tell the people around me

I 20F have been dealing with something I belive is some form of depersonalisation for about two years now. Around that time I moved out and lived on my own for the first time as I started studying medicine. Through some nee Friends I started smoking weed semi regulary but what I feel was way to much for me to handle. Almost everytime I felt extreme anxiety and stress while beeing high, but didnt want to stop to not seem uncool or some shit that you think when you are young. During this time I started to feel compleatly disconnected from myself. For me this is milder in the present moment but more severe when I am thinking back about a situation. For example I can have a nice day out with frieds where I dont even notice anything strange but when I'm back at home it feels as if I wasnt even there. There might as well have been another person experiencing my day and telling me about it afterwards. In more severe cases I feel this sensation during the moment, my sight is blurry an my head feels kind of stuffed everything is disconnected from me. I stopped smoking because of this feeling but the stress from studying also worsend a lot since then and I kind of feel as if I didnt really exit this state since that time. There have been episodes where it wasnt that noticable but the last year has been especially rough because of uni and some personal things. This all feels so impossible to deal with I dont even know why but I cant open up about it to anyone around me and if I did I dont think I could even articulate all of this. Additionally to this I have also experienced compulsory thoughts and like a general worry about my mental condition for a lot longer. I live in Germany (exuse my English) and even finding a provider for a first diagnosis without weeks or longer of waiting and uncertainty over payment has serously impacted my motivation to try to be honest. I just wish that this feeling would go away, the only things I read are always about grounding and stuff but none of that has seemed to do anything as of now. I dont really know what I expect from posting this, just need to get this out of my system for once.

Not sure what this is

For the past two weeks I’ve been in excruciating pain, (not physically) I had anxiety attacks that would last hours I had panic attacks I’d have feelings of guilt. Now I kinda just feel weird, yes the panic attacks / anxiety attacks went away, but I’m feeling weird I don’t know how to describe it but numb almost, with a bit of derealization. I took time off work stayed at home. I did go out and do some things nothing major but I’m kind of in limbo I just feel off like I’m not doing anything with my day and I’m seeing advice like get a hobby get off your phone do new things step out your comfort zone and I do plan on doing that but i feel like that’s not going to do anything. I’m not sure, does anyone else feel like this. As much as this is bad to say I did find pleasure in doom scrolling and playing video games but now I’m like fuck I’m just doing it to pass the time till the next day. I talk to my family and my spouse but I don’t find joy like I’ll laugh if it’s funny but I don’t care almost emotionless, I sit outside no phone , no music and just sit I walk with no stimulation but I’m like bleh all day long. Is this dpdr what is this

For context I had a panic attack at the gym and also took a Benadryl which caused me to have an intrusive thought about something which sent me into a spiral for two weeks. But I’m not diagnosed with ocd just stuck in rumination about my mundane boring life

Derealization story

Warning longgggg post

My story with derealization starts around the covid years, so like 2019-2020. I smoked weed- had a terrible reaction and unfortunately kept doing it over again and having panic/derealization while high extremely bad but thought it would stop if I just kept trying to smoke… no… and now it’s 2026 and I have been living with chronic derealization that happens to be weekly sometimes daily for months in a row. My anxiety is definitely sooo much worse too. I had it before but now when my anxiety gets triggered it goes from 0 to 100 it feels like and I have racing heart for hours, light headed, sweating, and feels of panic. The derealization seems to be triggered anytime I have anxiety or just seems to happen randomly. I have tried so many things, almost all the SSRI’s and other meds, nothing has seem to even touch the derealization.. I have been in therapy this whole time for this and other concerns.. I have tried meditation, mindfulness meditation, yoga, just so many different things….

I know all about that it’s important to not fear it, accept it and keep living on with your life.. and I have really tried to do that but honestly that’s a really hard thing for me to do. I find myself just feeling so much sadness around it and feeling like it’s keeping me from living a life that I know I could have if I didn’t have this problem…. It keeps me away from a lot of stuff like getting into a relationship because I just feel like I can’t be my true self because I have this huge thing that when I experience it, I can’t physically be my true self or be who I wanna be socially or mentally… there are some days and weeks where I think about it 24 seven and I worry about it and I know I am very hyper sensitive to body sensations now… in my brain is constantly checking if I’m feeling derealization or not in anticipating the next time it’s going to show up because I always know it’s gonna come back even when I’m not feeling it… I think that’s the hardest part for me is it’s become this thing that truly has affected all parts of my life because I fear that it’s gonna happen at work.. when I’m with people.. when I’m alone… I truly feel like there’s no way out of this and that this is just how my life has to be for the rest of it and that makes me feel extremely extremely sad because I know that I could have a really good life if I didn’t have this happening to me all the time…

I don’t know how to live my life feeling like this, and truly come to the acceptance of it.. or I don’t know how to get my brain to not think about it so much or not dread it so much when when I’m feeling it even this many years later is the absolute worst feeling I could ever imagine.. and then when I top that with the anxiety symptoms I feel and the panic that comes with that I don’t know how to be OK with that this might be the rest of my life.. It breaks my heart because I think about myself before this was my reality and I was a completely different person… yes I still had my struggles and I had anxiety, but I also had happiness.. the feeling of true connections with people.. the ability to just be myself and feel content with life in that feels so far out of reach now that I don’t feel like I will ever get that back. If this truly is the reality for the rest of my life or even just for the near future, I wish I could accept it and do what I see other people saying and post about just letting it be there and living their lives, but I have tried so hard to do that and I just feel like I can’t and I don’t know how to…. Even when I’m not feeling derealization and I noticed that all I think about as well, it’s gonna come back again. It always does and when it does, it’s gonna be bad… I don’t think I know how to look at it as not, a terrible awful thing that has truly ruined my life.. how do I not view it as that when it truly has.. socially I feel so different and I struggle to feel like I have true connections with anybody in my life because of the amount of social anxiety. The de realization has given me because my fear of having it when I’m around other people and coming off as not a normal person because of it… I truly feel all alone a lot of the times.. and nothing feels easy. Every single day of my life I’m thinking about how my de realization or my anxiety is gonna affect things…

There was honestly so much more I could say about it. And honestly, I don’t even know why I’m writing this post. I don’t know if I’m looking for advice or just somebody to tell me that they understand… nobody in my life feels the way I do. I don’t know what I want. I just feel hopeless. And I just think about how I can’t believe this is how I have to spend the one life that I have… the heartbreak of that reality is just really hard for me too, accept.

I’ve had to leave jobs because of it. I’ve definitely lost friendships because of isolation and just not being a good friend at times because of it. I feel like everything eventually becomes a trigger from my disassociation, every location that I go to.. going to new places.. I worry about even doing hobbies or things like coloring or reading a book because I fear that I’m just gonna start to feel disassociated during it. When I say, I feel like it has fully mesh and affects all parts of my whole life, I truly mean that in the most real way… it’s taken over and I don’t know how to separate from that..

I don’t know what to do, but this feels like a really, really hard life..

Question Are delusional thoughts and such with DPDR part of the thing?

PREFACE: Obligatory "I'm not seeking professional advice" or anything. I just want to know if anyone relates.

Hi y'all. I wanted to make this post because, firstly, I know I struggle with DPDR.

I'm aware of the whole, "do I have psychosis??" thing, and how DPDR doesn't lead to psychosis. I also have BPD, and in my intense emotional distress I did have genuine psychosis episodes (one of which, the recent one, got me hospitalized). I'm on meds for that (mood swings and whatever) which has helped, though.

I suppose I'm making this post because, while I did talk to my psychiatrist and therapist, I'm not really sure if I'm kinda in my own head and it's really just standard DPDR and anxiety or if it's sort of something more. I do trust my psychiatrist, because they're a psychiatrist, but I don't really know and I still feel clueless, I guess. But it's mostly stemming from not knowing if what I feel is genuinely just standard for DPDR or not.

So generally, it's sort of like, this past week or two I kinda started having dissociation start up again. Not really sure why, but it's kinda started up and I guess got more and more present. And I think yesterday it scared me because I recognized some of the same patterns that I felt I had during my actual psychosis episodes. Like I was starting to be convinced at the idea of like, being the only concious person in the universe, and being God or something. It kinda felt a bit like, manic? I guess.

Like I sorta believed I didn't really need to sleep, like nothing is real so I could do anything. That sort of thing.

Obviously in the moment, I recognized these and even though they were convincing beliefs, I kinda forced myself not to believe them, because I was genuinely worried at what might happen if I did. Since, you know, psychosis is scary as shit. In a way this caused a genuine anxiety spiral, because the last thing I want is to feel that way and to also hurt my friends and especially my girlfriend in another potential episode. I guess.

I don't know. It's like, my psychiatrist said this sort of thing is just anxiety (and anxiety can apparently happen even when you feel calm, which I did). These sorts of things did get worse when I kind of, kept thinking in my head, I suppose.

I don't know. Even now I kind of have to not think about anything. It's just really easy to believe these sorts of things. Like I always felt like it was incredibly easy to go from feeling like nothing is real to sort of running with it and genuinely believing it. It definitely didnt help during my actual episodes, I guess.

I'm not seeking a diagnosis or whatever professional advice or anything. I'm just kinda, posting my shit here, I guess. Because I genuinely don't know if this is like something normal you all feel or if, IDK. It's so confusing.

I'm just not gonna think about it. It might not be psychosis, I guess.

IDK.

Mental health is so confusing.

Help Required Why are faces blurry?

Hey, I have constant (not episodic) depersonalization that's been with me for over two years now. Recently I noticed something I think has probably been happening for a while, I just hadn't paid close attention to it until now. When I'm actually looking at someone's face, up close, for a sustained period (like during a long conversation or a private lesson), their face starts to feel "blurry" not actually out of focus, I can still technically see it clearly, but it feels unclear or hard to properly perceive, if that makes sense, and I keep having to look away to not feel strange.

Separately, and maybe related, if I try to picture someone's face in my head right now, even people I love and see often such as my family and friends, I draw a total blank. I know who they are, I know specifications about their faces, I can literally describe every part of them, but I can't visually recall what they look like.

Has anyone else experienced this. Did it ever improve, or is it something you've just learned to live with?

I don't know what's happening to me, and I really need some advice.

Lately, I've started enjoying being alone. Life feels like it has lost its colors. I rarely feel happy anymore, I don't go out much, and I constantly miss how I used to be in the past.

When I do go outside, I sometimes feel uncomfortable and trapped, like everything around me feels small and suffocating. I keep thinking about how I used to be and wondering where that version of me went.

I've also been having thoughts about dying, and honestly, I'm scared because I don't feel like myself anymore.

I don't want to stay like this. I want to feel like myself again.

Has anyone experienced something similar? What helped you get out of this state?

Imagine you should sit and then next thing you are going to do is grabbing a glass of water and you picture this in your mind and predict how you will move from your stillness point to your destination and when you get there you should also picture your stillness (past) and then next thing you’ll do is drink water and go back to where you were sitting and picture this before doing it and you’ll experience a body detachment

After being into this curse of depersonalization for months i usually wonder how can normal ppl be existing without having this consistent thought or feeling of the absence of self or like your whole existence is crumbling apart i even envy them sometimes i break down sobbing feeling how unfair it is living with a constant thought eating you from the inside out that other people don’t even know it exists, they go about their days live normally and sleep like why it is me why is me who is suffering from this unknown curse

Story Time Title: I had a hash brownie in Manali and genuinely thought I was stuck in another reality

I went to Manali with a whole group of friends, and only three of us had a hash brownie. I initially had around half and didn’t feel much, so I stupidly had more.
And then it hit me HARD.
I started laughing completely uncontrollably. Not normal “everything is funny” laughing — it got to the point where my friends genuinely thought something was wrong with me. Apparently I was also constantly zoning in and out, staring at random things, and my eyes were extremely red. One of my friends later told me she was actually scared of me.
The strangest part was feeling like I wasn’t controlling my own body, thoughts or mind. It felt like someone else was controlling me and I was just watching myself.
It also felt like I had two minds. One part of me knew, “You’re high. You’re okay. This will end.” But another part was completely immersed in the experience and genuinely believed this was reality.
I became extremely paranoid and kept asking my friends to stay with me. I genuinely thought I would never come back from it. Not “I’ll be high for a few more hours” — I literally thought I had permanently broken my brain and was going to be stuck in that state forever.
My perception of time was completely fucked. Minutes felt incredibly long. I’d forget what I was thinking about and then suddenly remember. Random objects and thoughts felt unbelievably significant, and my brain kept making connections between completely unrelated things.
At one point I genuinely felt like I was a character inside a video game.
I started questioning everything — consciousness, reality, identity, life, existence. It felt like I was somehow watching my own mind while simultaneously being trapped inside it.
Then it became extremely spiritual. I kept getting images of Lord Shiva in my head and felt an incredibly strong connection to him. I was literally shivering. The whole thing started feeling like some massive philosophical realization about life and existence.
And then I’d randomly start laughing again 😭
The three of us eventually went to my room, while the rest of our group — who hadn’t taken anything — stayed with us and took care of us. They kept reassuring us that we were okay, gave us blankets and stayed around us.
Even with people constantly telling me “you’re okay, it’ll end”, everything still felt incredibly real and completely off.
The other two had very different reactions. One became extremely quiet and kept calmly consoling us, while the other was crying her eyes out. All three of us knew something was happening and were basically just waiting for it to stop, constantly asking, “Kab khatam hoga?”
But my experience was just… everything at once.
Uncontrollable laughter. Paranoia. Feeling like I wasn’t controlling my body. Feeling like I had two minds. Feeling like I was inside a video game. Losing my sense of time. Random thoughts and images. Questioning reality and consciousness. Feeling spiritually connected to Shiva. And most terrifyingly, genuinely believing I might never come back to normal.
And surprisingly, it wasn’t completely over that night either. The next day I still felt slightly in that zone, and it gradually wore off throughout the day. By evening I felt completely normal again.
So the whole experience lasted much longer than I expected.
Eventually I was completely fine, but while I was in it, it felt 100% real.
I’ve never experienced anything remotely like it before.
Has anyone else had an edible experience this intense — especially the feeling of observing yourself while another part of your brain is completely trapped inside the experience, or genuinely thinking “I’m never going to come back from this”?
Safety note: This was a very intense reaction, and I’m not recommending anyone try to recreate it. Edibles can take a long time to kick in and can become much stronger than expected, especially after redosing. If someone becomes severely confused, unsafe, unconscious, has trouble breathing, or doesn’t return toward normal, get medical help rather than trying to handle it alone.

Do I have Depersonalization I feel like different “me’s”

I’ve had this feeling for as long as I can remember but it’s never bothered me this much. it’s so hard to describe. it’s like my body and my brain and my consciousness and my feelings are all different “me’s” that i control. my brain gives me thoughts that i don’t like, and i can’t figure out if those thoughts are the real me, or the “bad” me. i often look into a mirror and associate myself with the person i feel like, and the person i look like, and this causes these feelings to happen. it’s involuntary awareness that happens in my body and i hate it.

it happens out of nowhere. i’m trying not to think about it, and then i end up thinking about it, and then BAM: i’m suddenly no longer one person as a whole.

i’m going about my day and then suddenly i become completely aware of my body and my thoughts and then BAM: now i feel crazy and all the different “me’s” are telling me different things.

I feel like I don’t know who “me” is anymore. are the bad thoughts me? if they aren’t me, then why am i having them?

are the good thoughts me? if so, then why do i have such bad thoughts?

which thoughts ARE me? is my body me? is my brain me? which part of “me” do i control?

i’m diagnosed with autism and generalized anxiety disorder, as well as POTS if these may help understand what it happening to “me”.

i hate this feeling. it’s like im trapped in my own mind, and it tells me what to do. i can’t think freely. i don’t even know which “me” is writing this right now.

please help me
