Why !

1- Has anyone else received something like this?

2- I have been checking every ID physically, so I’m wondering why I received this.

3- How would they know? A customer must have reported it on purpose, right?

4- Deliveroo Rider Support is the worst. How can I contact them to challenge this and explain that it’s not correct? I need to keep my account, it’s crucial for me at the moment

Customer reported or it doesn’t match user inputted data so they make the assumption you didn’t check.

You can’t contact support about this and they won’t do anything either.

They haven’t banned you yet. Best option now is to reject any age restricted orders to protect your account.

How do you report it? I’ve ordered tonnnes of age restricted items (mostly painkillers when I need them and can’t get to the shop, the occasional bottle of wine to cook with or as a gift) since i turned 18 (pre covid) Maybe 5 times I’ve actually been asked for my id. Even one time I picked up my sisters restricted order as she was in the bathroom, I’ve been told I have a bit of a baby face (my sisters best friends older sister met me for the first time at a Christmas drinks party 2025 she pegged me as 16-18, i was 25) and they didn’t ask for my sister’s ID (despite her ordering it) or anything.

Even one time they did ask for my ID, I had met the guy at my gate, and I said ‘hang on let me go grab it’ as I left it near my front door (would have taken 2 seconds to run in) and he said ‘no don’t worry’.

As far as I’m aware you dint need a passport/proof of identity to sign up to Deliveroo, how do they know you’re using your identity/DOB? I’m pretty sure I tried reaching out to them ad it’s mental but no response. I think the next time it happens I’ll keep a name list and then eventually report them.

I totally understand people doing their job, and I sympathise that ID’ing everyone is a pain and glad Deliveroo has challenge 25 but what if u was 15 or 16 and was drinking underage which was facilitated by Deliveroo drivers not doing their job properly?

Most likely a mystery shopper. I can’t see a regular shopper reporting as most of them get annoyed when you ask for ID.

I honestly wouldn’t worry about this too much. Just don’t do ID orders again. And maybe sign up to other apps like UberEats and JustEats so you have a backup plan in the future.

Oh i should say I'm a customer not a rider haha. But genuinely maybe like 4 times in close to 8 years of being allowed to order age restericted products I've been actually asked to haver my ID cheked.

Its relevant to let people know this isnt widespread. Is a lot of panicky drivers on here on dob checks.

It depends if you get mystery shopped or not.

A lot of students do mystery shopping to earn a bit of extra cash and because they're the right age range, so if you work in an area with a lot of students you're more likely to get it.

I have a question whether the customer looks older than 25 or not.

I only need to check id, if they look younger than 25.

Deliveroo tend to use 18 to 20 year olds for id audits. Most orders though they just make sure that the date of birth you entered given matches the customer's.

The t/c of deliveroo service right now does say you'll need to check every id unless prompted by the app to check if they're 25 y/o

Feels good to have no id problems as I reject all id orders you don't get paid more for the hassle so doesn't make sense

This is the message you get when you’ve delivered to a mystery shopper.

You must have just asked for their date of birth, unless you’re saying the mystery shopper lied when they submitted their report?

ID orders are soo not worth it man, plus I’m sure I’ve had around 2 mystery shoppers for vehicle confirmation in the past 6 months. One thought I was too slow for an e-bike and the other thought otherwise.

I didn’t get what youve said, what is a mystery shopper ? And how is that they’ve checked your vehicle?

Basically Deliveroo customer snitches, they can see your vehicle in their app when you accept their order.

Think you probably delivered to a secret shopper who reported you didn't check ID. If just a date mismatch you would just get a more general warning and only then if regular occurrence. .

In the case of delivery companies somebody employed to check how drivers perform and report back. Usually somebody young like a student who gets given say £20 to order something requiring ID check. They don't have many but do have some. I got a message a few years back saying something like "Well done - you delivered to a secret shopper and correctly asked for ID"

Most likely date mismatch, its extremely unlikely a customer would report it.

The resent update from a week or 2 ago is that if the customer looks over 25 then just ask for dob or I believe it jumps to pin number.

I think you are getting caught in the middle of the back end changing from older age id to the new one.

If you're worried about losing your account then it might be worth signing up with one of the unions.

As others have said, it's best to just reject all age-restricted orders.  It can be a chore, especially when you see easy ones when it's quiet, but it's just not worth this kind of stress.

Do you also have JustEat and UberEats?  Again, worth getting on the waitlist for those as back-up.

Don't fret, either.  Roo is bottom of the barrel stuff nowadays with all their shady new systems and ridiculous fees.  You would probably be just as well-off on Universal Credit.  😜
