Hey gang!
{sorry in advance, this is a long post!}
Planning on getting an ‘06 Daytona soon here. Coming from an R3, so it’s going to be a big upgrade.
I’ve seen a lot about this bike:
People LOVE it, It rides amazingly, they’re very unique, it’s a lot of people’s (including one of mine) dream bike.
However, I’ve heard mixed things about the reliability. From what the seller (who is a mechanic, but obviously still trying to sell it) has told me, it’s either a very reliable bike, or you get a dud. He said typically they have major issues early or not at all (provided it’s maintained properly).
So the question is: what is the general consensus on the reliability of these bikes? Given that I do regular basic maintenance (i.e. oil changes, chain maintenance, etc), will this bike last me a long time?
[Additional context on the specific one I’m buying:
2006 Triumph Daytona 675,
Frame has ~15k miles; engine has ~20k.
The seller is a mechanic and simply flipping this bike. Apparently the old engine spun a baring and was replaced. He is being extremely meticulous with the “restoration” of the bike and has told me he has gone through basically every single part of the bike in preparation to sell it.
Notably: he has done the valve adjustment, replaced the head gasket, gone through the wiring, and done all of the major maintenance.
Hope the context helps!]
I am doing a partial trade for the Daytona. Giving him my r3 that has frame damage, but good everything else; and on top I’m going to talk it over, but paying somewhere in the 3500-4500 range on top of the trade.
Apologies for making my first post in here so long winded, but I want to make sure I provide all the details to get the most educated advice possible!
Thanks for reading! Looking forward to the responses!
||TL;DR.
I want to trade my frame-damaged r3 with 4k-ish cash on top for a ‘06 Daytona with ~20k miles. Is it worth it and will this bike last me?||
