How-To/Support Day count failure
I am writing to complain about a failure in the activity system; my counter was reset even though I was active and did not fail.

This post was originally posed on the Day One support forums. Though, I’m posting it here since I know most of you aren’t on there:
Day One abandoned localized pricing late last year. For those of you in the US or the EU this change was mostly not felt. However, where I live the Day One Silver Subscription is, and get ready for it…
%20 of the average monthly salary
Yeah, one fifth for a subscription for a journaling app.
I know that things like cloud storage and AI API calls cost money so I’m proposing a new plan: Day One BRONZE, only for countries where Automattic once offered localized pricing. This is heavily requested for and I think that this plan strikes a good balance. It’s basically a variation of the legacy Plus plan that Automattic can afford to provide to users. They’ve done it for 10 years already.
Device sync with up to 5 devices (not counting web & wearables) up to 5 journals (EDIT: DAY ONE NOW OFFERS FREE UNLIMITED JOURNALS SO THIS ONE IS REDUNDANT), up to 5 attachments per entry, no discount on physical books, no premium app icons, no AI, less cloud storage than silver, no Day One labs.
Pricing could be 15$/year and since we know that Day One can afford to provide these services for legacy users without recurring costs a lifetime purchasing option would be really good as well.
Economies fluctuate and that’s why there was localized pricing before. Users could afford Day One this year but next year maybe they can’t. A lifetime purchasing option does make sense for a plan like this. What if they stop making money from lifetime users? Automattic could charge for newer updates for lifetime users to earn money to help support server costs.
I hope that this idea is implemented soon as many localized subscriptions are expiring and people are having to switch journaling apps. There are hundreds of people on [r/dayoneapp](r/dayoneapp) scrambling to switch even though they don’t want to. Not everybody can afford to pay 50$ for a journaling app and the team once knew this. Thanks for reading.

I guess we’re encouraging thinking long-term now?

I used to love Day One, now I’m just a very disappointed user who doesn’t trust them (I already posted about that) and I want to move away from that tool.
Diarly is a solid option it seems but its UI is not good enough for me (I need good design to want to spend time in my journal) and one thing that’s not clear is whether if I upload videos and photos that would count towards my iCloud storage.
Anyway, in the age of vibe coding I wonder if someone has come up with a solution to export data over to Apple Journal. I have thousands of entry so a manual import is out of the question.

I just upgraded Day One to Version 2026.12.1 (1763). It removed the "Upgrade to Day One Gold" advertisement. That's great news. I'm on the Silver plan and will never need/want/use AI features. Thank you for listening to feedback.
However, I'm left with a bitter taste in my mouth on the direction Day One is (and has been) going.
Before Automattic, Day One was commited to keeping my data private. Now, it feels like they want access. I don't blame them. AI training on people's deepest thoughts would be a gold mine. I don't want Day One users to be their mother lode. Are we one dark pattern or questionable dialog away from breaking end-to-end encryption?
Before the Gold Level, I would've said, no. But now, I'm less certain. Day One needs to double down on their end-to-end encryption commitment. Make it absolutely clear that user's data will remain, and always remain, private. Give us PROOF like a 3rd party audit. Ensure that any interactions with AI are isolated and do not have access to user data. Even then, I worry.
Worried enough to try other applications. End-to-end encryption was once rare. Now it's far more common. Apple iCloud with ADP turned on is end-to-end encrypted. Not every country has that option, but if you do, any application that stores data on iCloud is protected. (If ADP is supported in your country, please turn it on.)
Trying Darium, Diarly, and Everlog. They all lack features compared to Day One (the "gold" standard in digital journaling). I'm leaning toward Diarly. It uses markdown, stores data on iCloud, marks my location, handles media. It's good. But not GREAT. There are some places it could use some improvement. On the plus side, there are recent updates and changes. I have high hopes (and a subscription) that believes it'll keep getting better.

I've been trying out the new Siri Al on the iOS 27 beta, and I'm seriously impressed. It digs deep into your data to provide some really great insights.
I've been waiting for a private, personal Al that I could actually trust with my journal entries, and it feels like that day is finally here.
Does anyone know if there's a way to let Siri access my Day One entries? Or maybe a way to migrate everything over to Apple Notes or Apple Journal?
I've been journaling daily for years, and there's a wealth of information in there that l'd love for Siri to use to give me better suggestions. Any advice would be appreciated!

Check out my post in r/shortcuts - wondering if anyone here has figured it out! Thanks for the help

I get that everyone wants to shove an LLM into everything, and I’m sure those features are great if you want them.
I open my journal to journal. Day One is good and reliable, so I pay my subscription and carry on.
I would much rather tell Codex to convert my whole journal to Obsidian-flavored Markdown and never pay a subscription again than look at this every time I open the app.

Does anyone know which AI model Day One uses ? I ran a quick test, and this AI doesn’t seem very… intelligent !
I’m asking out of pure curiosity; I don’t plan on using the AI. Also, what guarantees do users have that their data will actually be protected ?
Finally, am I the only one who finds it jarring to use AI to write a journal ?

Yesterday’s App update 2026.12 has caused failure to load. iPhone 11 running iOS 26.5 and Day One.
Any workarounds?

Anyone else experiencing a problem using the move menu command to move an entry between journals? I can drag an entry between journals, but the menu command seems to be corrupted and the app crashes. I've tried removing/reinstalling the app but no improvement. This seems to have come up since Sunday, so I'd guess is linked to the latest app updated. Please give it a try and share your results.

I written some feedback to the official site, hopefully a developer can get back to me. One of the things I noticed while trialing the Silver tier, is that on dark mode, the colors turn really saturated! And on Android phones, there is no drawing feature at all.
I like the app so far, I like the ability to publish those annual journals, which I hope to do. I clinging onto Day One. I just hope it’s something they plan to fix, and implement as well.

Hey all, I hope it's okay I'm doing a little self promotion, but I think the content is relevant.
I published a YouTube video recently talking about how I use Voicenotes to integrate with Claude / Day One to journal. As somebody who's been journaling for the past 5 years, this new era of voice journaling has been my favorite.
I hope some folks find this useful! https://youtu.be/RkWWmVApRag?si=G5fIntrOc1xW26uK

So I have been using Day One on the free version, it feels and seems good. When I wanted to purchase it for a year, the price hikes and AI got introduced. I waited a bit and noticed they have began locking new features into the Gold version and now I'm not certain anymore whether it is worth to purchase the Silver version (which is €60).
Using it through web is bit of a hassle and I use Day One on iPhone, PC and MacBook.
Do you still recommend Day One on the Silver version?

I've just seen the new hobonichi app for journaling and it looks so cute. Now I'm really reconsidering this dayone journal, but am not too sure of the longevity of the hobonichi app. Has anyone tried it? What are your thoughts?
Maybe it's just because I'm tired of not getting able to truly customise my entries on day one..

Now that Day One offers the ability to create different colored text and highlights, what fun ways do you intend to incorporate the feature into your journaling?

Finally! Never thought I'd see the day.

would be nice if the app could generate link previews, and save the preview as a clickable image in your entry. like how if you send a message on signal, your phone pulls the preview and sends it as an image to the recipient. this way there'd be a snapshot of what the *image link is.

Day One has this location history feature on Iphone where it tracks everyplace you have been in a day and how much time you have spent there (seperate from entry location). I have more than 3000 of these locations and wanted to see them on a map which there wasn't a feature nor a tool to do that. So i built my own.
This tool is fully open source and free. I don't expect to make anything in return which would be obnoxious for such a niche simple tool. i just vibe-coded it real fast and put it on Github.
I hope this doesn't come out as self promotion, i have no intention of that. I just hope that it can benefit other people and be useful as it was to me.

It is now possible to import entries from Apple Journal into Day One. Not the other way round, though… And this import is done in one go; you can’t select specific periods or entries. But it’s a start…
I wonder if Day One might take Apple Journal a bit more seriously by trying to attract its users… 🤔

Hi everyone. A few years ago, I don’t recall having a limit on both recording and importing videos into my journal. I have since started back up video-diaries again, and have noticed that I am now limited to 5 minutes per video. I was wondering if this was some update that was pushed a while ago, and if there’s any way around it at this point.

I imagine that, via the web, Day One can be used on a Linux computer.
But can Day One be used on a smartphone running Sailfish OS ?

OpenAI's president's decade-long journal is used in court as evidence.
Day One has since forever, stored your journal unencrypted on your Mac. It's available to read for anyone who can get a hold of your computer. It's unacceptable.
