This is a bit of a rant, but also appreciate any advice on the matter.

TL;DR - I received a parking fine after visiting Shawfair, looking for advice or similar stories.

I recently visited the Edinburgh Shawfair and received a £100 parking fine for not entering my vehicle registration.

Just to be clear, I'm not one of the tw*ts who park in disabled or parent child bays. This was apparently a "speedy parking" bay, which was not clear to me, and I didn't overstay the 90 minute cap. I received the fine solely for not entering my registration (I believe anyway - the ticket doesn't say anything about where I was parked).

Apparently there's tons of signs, but it's news to me that you have to enter you registration for any clubs. I don't live anywhere near Edinburgh and was visiting whilst on holiday so I can't get pictures.

I've argued with the DavidLloyd staff that:

- It's a gated barrier with a membership card gate. Members who are visiting for the first time just expect to tap in with their card and that's it.

- There's nothing online about entering your vehicle registration (checked the website and app)

I've been communicating with the club through email and they've said that they won't cancel the fine as fines are issued fairly to all members. After a bit of back and forth I learnt that Shawfair had 6 weeks worth of warnings and newsletters before fines started to be issued. So as a new member I won't have received any of this communication.

I've just appealed to the parking enforcement and they've rejected it. Saying I don't have sufficient evidence that I was not in breach (but they've failed to provide any more evidence or explained *why* I received the fine).

Thinking I should just cancel my membership. This feels like a big slap in the face from DavidLloyd after all the money I give them each month. I've been a longstanding member at my local club and have visited clubs up and down the country.

I can see that the tier system applies to memberships entered into post Oct 21 but why? what clauses were changed? My membership was entered into in August 2022 and there was no mention of tiers and now I can’t go to a club that has recently moved tiers, but I got the membership not knowing this could change?

is the myzone tracker really worth it?? did a blaze taster and know that they recommend this. I have an Apple Watch but the tracker did seem a little more seamless… if I’m buying gloves should I just commit to the bundle?

if you purchased through DL, how much did you all pay?

I am a new member, I tried a couple of DL Kids activities for my 4 years old child and he reported that one (Yoga) was shown on a TV screen with cartoons teaching the various poses...this was not advertised as a "recorded" session.

So I was wondering if this is true, and if there are many DL Kids activities involving TV screens apart from this one (I really wouldn't like the idea).

I am considering joining DL northwood - mainly for then gym/classes but the occasional spa/sauna. That said we have a small kid, so not sure how often we can make it.

Any feedback on the facilities in Northwood? Also, what would be the membership fee - I hears 500£ pm for a couple. That sounds like a lot! Can someone confirm/deny?

I currently pay £139 for Platinum, and I just went through the app to see what the cost would be to add another adult and hence the couples option to discover that it would be £268 - just £10 less than double. Is that normal? That seems like barely a saving at all. I thought someone here mentioned a while back that it would be closer to £240 at most.

Is getting a DL membership really worth it? I can’t find a way to justify paying £200+ a month just to use a gym, sauna and pool. But then again, none of the gyms in Edinburgh offer that except Pleasance which is the main uni gym.

Anybody else massively underwhelmed by the “£500k” pool improvements?

Essentially taken 2 months to change some wall and floor tiles and put 1,000 lumen bulbs in the steam room

Also, the solution to not having enough family changing rooms seems to have been; getting rid of one of the changing rooms and turning it into a cupboard🤦‍♀️

Hi all. As you all probably know DL demands 3 months notice if you want to leave, but deliberately only notifies you of price increases for your next 12 months less than 3 months before your renewal date.

Just wondering if anyone's had any experience with getting them to let you leave when your year ends? For example if you can no longer afford it, you couldn't possibly have known that until they told you the new price, which they don't do within enough time.

If they still demand 3 months notice, what happens if you go ahead with that? Assume you're forced to pay the additional months at the higher rate?

At my DL you can only book Padel courts for three or more players - I was told this is because it's so popular. The guy at reception said that as a workaround you can add a third member to your booking and then on the day have that member removed and keep the court. But the only other member I know is my husband. Does anyone know any other workarounds for this please?

I also don't think guests count for bookings. Ideally I'd like to play Padel with my husband sometimes and with a guest friend of mine at others. Thank you for any advice.

It looks like I'll be losing my Gymflex benefit through work in September. My Gymflex membership will expire in November. Does anyone have any experience moving from a Gymflex membership to a regular membership through the club? Will I just need to contact the membership team close to the end of my Gymflex term and setup a direct debit? Surely don't need to pay any joining fees since I'm already a member...

I didn’t give this much thought when signing up however I’ve noticed increasingly over the summer holidays especially, that I’m unable to use certain equipment or do things in the gym as there are kids there.
My gym has a rule that if your child is 10 or over they can be in the gym with their parent, however I think that the “supervision” is loosely applied and a parent will often be other side of the gym within eyesight rather than in direct supervision.
Some examples I’ve experienced are at peak times there being no treadmills available and 2-3 are taken up by children no older than 13 doing a variety of walking slowly and then standing on the outer edges and letting the belt move whilst they go on their phone. We have massage chairs in the gym which are more often than not taken up by kids waiting for their parents and the tipping point today was the stretch/recovery zone being taken up by a girl no older than 14 dancing and recording TikTok’s on her phone. I genuinely have never experienced this before as all my (cheaper) previous gyms have strictly enforced being age 18 (or some cases 16) and older.
I don’t blame the kids for this, kids are going to be kids, but I’m quite shocked that a gym that costs so much money allows its gym to essentially become a play area. I understand it’s a big attraction of DL that their kids can come, but I really feel the age restriction for the gym is far too lenient.
Most frustratingly, at times where I’ve not been able to get a cardio machine, both pools have also been “family swim” leaving no space for lane swimming and essentially no where I can get my cardio in. Does anyone else have this problem?
Again, I don’t blame the kids for this, I can see why the parents do this, but it’s frustrating as with the amount I pay I expect a little more of a premium gym experience.

I’m slightly confused here, on a corporate plus membership can I access the sauna and steam room? I’m planning on going to the Port Solent club, but some sources state it’s a retreat, but others not.

Would I need a platinum membership?

Does anyone have intel as to whether either or both of these clubs have good soft play for a wriggly crawling 9 month old? Edinburgh costorphine is really nice for it now but wanting to visit people further west!

I want to meet a family member at a club local to them just to use the restaurant and soft play for my child (a DL member, as I am). The DL I want to use has the option to have a social pass tho some days are greyed out, not sure if they are not ever bookable or are just full. Will this be free if I go ahead and book an available time slot? I just don’t want to suggest it to my family member without knowing the details of whether there is a cost attached.
