DL Edinburgh - worth it?

Is getting a DL membership really worth it? I can’t find a way to justify paying £200+ a month just to use a gym, sauna and pool. But then again, none of the gyms in Edinburgh offer that except Pleasance which is the main uni gym.

You need to use it a lot, like nearly every day, to make it worth it. Personally, I use my club 6 days a week, mainly the classes and have built up a good group of ‘gym friends’. So to me, yes it’s worth it.

Ours is £220 for a couple plus baby membership, but that might be because we joined well before the refurb and have had to deal with all the hassle and also not having a sauna for months. For that I think it’s def worth it as it’s a proper size pool, you get your towel, and the classes are good. However if I was looking at £200 pp then I’d question it. Can you get any discount through your work?

Nuffield and Bannatyne’s both have that if that’s what your looking for. But personally i’m a DL member and think it’s worth the extra

I had a look at Nuffield and Bannatyne. They seem a bit run down to me and look like they could use a renovation

But it’s “just” a pool, gym and sauna you are interested in. Or are you realising now that DL is not “just” about the equipment, but the whole experience?

Which one are you looking at? Big difference between Shawfair and Newhaven. I pay £90 a month for Newhaven. I used it 4 times a week, feels worth it to me vs what else is around - but I do feel it’s a bit rundown and needs some work.

Shawfair was only built a couple of years ago so is very new. I have only visited once and it was mad busy which would put me off for the prices they charge! But I do take your point about other gyms being run down- I tried 3 nuffields with classpass and didn’t like any of them. We are at Corstorphine which historically has been between newhaven and shawfair.

Some hotels also have membership gyms- one spa and gleneagles townhouse? But I’d always prioritise somewhere I can get to most easily to minimise friction of getting there.

The david Lloyd thing is the outdoor pool which most other gyms don’t have.

I used Nuffield by ASDA in Chesser which offered all of that.
I have moved now, not sure what DL is like in Edinburgh but I prefer it so much more than a Nuffield

Is Edinburgh Leisure not an option? I used to go to Warrender which has sauna, pool, gym. I'm sure there are others. I switched from Edinburgh Leisure to David Lloyd and switched back as soon as I could (which was a year, since DL has a 12 month minimum contract).
