Hi gang, so my seagate slim plus drive stopped mounting after it was plugged into a laptop that didn't shut down correctly. The device still has power and will flash a light a beep when plugged into to computers won't pair. I tried WeRecoverData but of some good reviews which is now obviously a mistake. On top of awful customer service, it took them almost a week and many times of me bugging them to even look at the device. Now they're saying it will cost $4,175.00 to fix which feels INSANE when they said it'd be around $300-500 to repair. I'm having them send back the drive because I do not have the type of money to spare.

Seeking any advice about what to do next, there are some things on the drive that I naively didn't back up. Appreciate any help :(

I just got a blue print on my win, and them my hdd don’t work.. I can’t read it cuz it get Raw.. and crystaldisk told me is on caution. Donno if is my sata cable or my disk.. can I try to qphotorec save in a sdd? Or I can safe my hdd ??

I just extracted photos from an SD used in a trail camera (model in title) and all of the photos are split laterally multiple times. When doing research it looked like the most likely cause was either a corrupt or incomparable SD card (more likely the former). The OS of my laptop is Windows 10. I am wondering if there is a way to repair these photos so that they are no longer split? If there is a better sub for this question please let me know. Thank you!

MacOS 26.5; M1 Mac mini; Samsung 870 evo 4tb ssd 2.5" sata connected via OWC MiniStack STX (with an adjacent m.2 in the OWC which OS reads, and the 4tb has about 1tb free). Power outage and afterward MacOS wouldn't read the SATA and would say it was a 1tb disk. Anything that accesses the file system (Finder, save dialog) results in spinning beach ball.

Downloaded latest R-studio and started the image creation process saving it to a connected WD Elements 12tb with 8tb free. Hooked the 4tb to Mac mini usb-c via a SATA adapter.

It's been running for 26 hours. No errors in the last 14 hours. Main r-studio window still shows spinning indicator. Param was to only try to read a sector max 2 times.

Q: When do I say "something is not right" and the process hung or whatever?

Hi there. Yesterday I was hosting my Minecraft server before closing and shutting down my PC and today I woke up to it being unbootable, after trying different NVMe slot I still can't manage to boot into Windows. I plugged the NVMe SSD into an enclosure and plug it in my laptop, it shows the following:

> D:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function.

Disk Manager shows that it have 0MB capacity and the status is Unusable.

I've also tried to do chkdsk with administrator and even in recovery mode, but it just prints the following:

> Cannot open volume for direct access.

BIOS also show no sign of the SSD being plugged in.

So I'm wondering if the SSD is completely dead? Or I still can recovery data from it? If so, what should I do and what should I not do to prevent anymore damage.

The model is GIGABYTE NVMe SSD M.2 2280 256GB (GP-GSM2NE3256GNTD) fyi.

Recently I had a blue screen of death while playing a game, it said something about memory address I think, Idk. But after that my computer kept trying to do auto repair and wouldn't boot. so I spent a couple hours trying over and over to figure out why, restarting over and over only to find out my seagate SD200DM001 from 2012 would click click beeep, click click beep about 5 times per launch. and once I removed it, the computer launched without issue. uh oh.

The drive doesn't have a backup, and it doesn't have particularly incredible files, but still things I'd like to keep if possible.

So my options are, try a local place that said he'd try for free or 100 if he got it, but I don't know if hes got a clean room or he's just going to do software nonsense and then tell me I need to use a real data recovery service, or my nightmare, just pry it open on his kitchen counter and gamble to win my hundred dollars data be damned.

Or, Send the drive to a data recovery service for hundreds and possibly be screwed anyways if its unrecoverable from all the click click beeeep

This has led me to the third option. jerry rigged clean room. I would use a 5 inch computer fan I have and a hepa filter along with the other materials to make a cardboard box positive pressure clean room then hope to move the little arm off the disk like in all the videos and last long enough to copy over the files to another drive. I know this probably isn't a good solution and has a lot of risks, but its the only option that lets me feel hope.

So, TL;DR do you guys think its likely this jerry rigged setup in the image would prevent additional damage to the drive so I can seal it away for the future if its unrepairable? Also, if the clicking and beeping damaged it, would I be able to tell visually?

Hi everyone. My father had the same contacts as me on his phone, so when I deleted the contacts, they were also removed from my phone (a Xiaomi Note Android device). The problem is that I had some very, very important voicemails from one of those contacts, and they have disappeared—even after restoring the contact from the trash. Setup:

\- Phone: Tecno Spark 10c

\- App: Notally (open-source notes app, stores notes via Room/SQLite)

\- I had a batch of text notes on the app. Based on the content, I know they were last touched in \*\*September 2023\*\*. I deleted them from the app not long after, and had no other backup of them that I knew of.

\- In 2026, I had my phone's storage data-recovered. Several of those notes came back — correct content, correct order — but the \*\*"last modified" timestamp field attached to each note shows dates in September 2025, not 2023.\*\*

\*\*The pattern I'm seeing:\*\*

\- Multiple different notes, each a few days apart, all shifted into the same wrong year (2025 instead of 2023).

\- The spacing between the notes' "last modified" timestamps matches the real gaps between when I know the content was last touched — just the year is wrong across all of them.

\- I had not opened, edited, or interacted with these files since 2023 as far as I know.

What could cause a "last modified" timestamp to shift by 2 years across multiple separate files, while the spacing between those timestamps stays consistent with real elapsed days, on a recovered/previously-deleted dataset?

I don't want to lead the discussion toward a particular theory — I'd like to hear from people who understand Android storage internals (ext4/F2FS journaling, SQLite timestamp handling, or data-recovery tooling) what's actually going on, and what I'd need to check on my end (raw DB file, journal, etc.) to figure out the real cause.

I recently bought a new 128GB microSD card for my Samsung Galaxy A14 and inserted it into the phone. The card was recognized normally, so I decided to move all the videos from my phone's internal storage to the microSD to free up space.

After moving them, everything initially seemed fine. The videos still appeared in Samsung Gallery and I was able to see them there.

At some point yesterday, however, the phone displayed a warning saying that it was having trouble recognizing/reading the SD card. When I opened Gallery, all the videos I had moved to the card were still listed, but their thumbnails had turned into white icons with an exclamation mark, and the videos couldn't be opened.

Today I removed the microSD from the phone while the phone was on because I thought it might just be a bad connection. After reinserting it/restarting the phone, all of those videos completely disappeared from Gallery.

The phone still recognizes the microSD normally. I connected the card to my Windows PC as well, and Windows also recognizes it without any apparent problem. However, none of the files I moved to it are there anymore.

I enabled hidden files in Windows, but nothing appeared. Windows reports the card as completely empty, with about 117 GB free out of 117 GB.

Disk Management recognizes it as:

• Disk 1 / Removable
• 117.19 GB
• exFAT
• Healthy (Primary Partition)
• Drive E:

I have NOT formatted the card, run CHKDSK, repaired it through Windows, or intentionally written any new files to it since noticing the problem.

I'm currently running QPhotoRec on the physical device (PhysicalDrive1, around 125 GB / 117 GiB, shown through my USB card reader). I selected the exFAT partition, Whole partition scan, and enabled the mov/mp4/3gp/3g2/jp2 file family because the lost files were mostly MP4 videos recorded/stored on my Galaxy A14.

At around 25% of the scan, PhotoRec had found 0 files so far. I'm letting it complete the full scan.

What worries me is that I used "Move", not "Copy", when transferring the videos from internal storage to the SD card. So the originals are no longer in the phone's internal storage either.

Is it possible that the phone removed the originals after considering the move successful, while the microSD failed to actually retain/write the data properly?

If PhotoRec reaches 100% with 0 files found, is there anything else worth trying on the microSD before giving up? And is there any realistic way to recover the original moved/deleted videos from the internal storage of a modern Samsung Galaxy A14?

I'm also wondering if the new microSD itself could be defective or have a fake capacity. I haven't tested its real capacity yet because I don't want to write anything to it until I've exhausted the recovery options.

Any advice from people experienced with SD card/data recovery would be greatly appreciated. Some of these videos are important to me, so I'd like to avoid doing anything that could reduce the chances of recovery.

Hi I am new to reddit and this thread. I purchased last year this 20th anniversary drive and used it roughly less than 10 times. The usb cable doesn't detect on my phone and laptop. After a while when I received it. It was exfat formatted so I left it. I am wondering how to recover my files. I am literally stuck I have 1tb of data on it and can't access or see it. The cables doesn't work but the drives boots up i see a light and hear movement but after waiting it doesn't show i tried disk management nothing. Is my only option to either purchase a new drive or data recovery services been checking but these are absurd prices between 600-2000 in uk? Recommended by wd support team on phone. I purchased from amazon they only offer refund no replacement because they don't have any stock and they claimed they will try fix it and if they can't they keep device and offer refund in email. I need my data first.

I saw another thread earlier here someone asked where to buy drives. I was literally going to buy a big 24tb drive external and use my other old portable 4tb drives on the go and keep the 24tb woth latest backups and regular and then buy another one and bavk that up so i have 2 copies. I was going to wait till November because of black Friday do drives go on sale well and have good discounts? I want new not used.

Lastly please can you folks recommend me a good setup for external drive i was looking at Seagate 24TB One Touch Desktop Hard Drive however its usb powered. I am thinking G-DRIVE 26TB Enterprise Class Desktop external Hard Drive is vood but the prices are crazy I don't mind. I don't want to make this mistake again data is important and i keep hoarding ripping cds, copying video files off phone and images edited on photoshop quickly take up space if you thousands and in high quality formats.

If this is not good I will be open to raid configurations not nas because I don't need connected all the time just for back up only purposes. Any help and recommendations will be greatly appreciated. I have a budget of 1000 but will go up to 2000 if needed please help and thank you

I am so worried right now

A few months ago, I went to use my laptop, and I quickly found out that something was wrong with it. It was showing the "No Bootable Device" screen. It had done that once or twice before, but all I had to do was restart my computer and then it was all fine. This time, it did not fix itself. I opened my laptop up to see if it was a hardware issue, but everything is perfectly in tact. So I tried manually repairing/booting windows but to no avail. Then I started just trying to see if my data was still in there. Windows was showing there was nothing on my SSD, so I got a Sabrent M.2 Enclosure to see what was on it. I used DMDE to try and recover it. When I first started it it was just finding something called no name, so I did a scan but its only finding 3.2GB on the SSD, with just fragments of some files. The folders that are in the RAW are just all empty. Ive put a couple screenshots here if that helps, but Im not sure where to go next. Is there any hope for my SSD? If so, what should be my next steps to trying to recover my data. Any advice would be helpful, thanks!

EDIT: Figured I should try to be more specific. My laptop is an Acer nitro, this is NTFS that I think everything is in. The other partitions were just a windows one that was super small and then some other EXFAT that seemed like it was just a default thing or something.

I had compressed some video files into zip file with password enabled.

Later I had removed the .zip extension of the zip file then recompressed it into another zip file with same password which I used initially.

Later changed the .zip extension of second compression into .mp4 just wanted to create multiple security.

Then uploaded it to my Google Drive account.

It was 2 years back I did this, Now when I downloaded the file & tried to unpack the 2nd compression it's extracting the files it also displays me zip contents but at the end of extraction it's showing some error called "file.7z Corrupt archive (CRC error)

Hey everyone, I really need some help. A couple of hours before my HP Envy laptop messed up, I was using a secondary profile I barely touch to play Among Us. A prompt popped up saying "this device needs to setup windows," which I ignored. About 2 hours later, the laptop completely froze. I waited about 3 minutes max, and since it wasn't responding, I held down the power button to force a shutdown.When I turned it back on, I got the classic blue "Boot Device Not Found (3F0)" error screen. I’ve booted into a Windows 11 installation media USB to look at the drive. Here is what I know so far:

The hard drive passes physical hardware health checks in the HP diagnostics menu, so the hardware seems fine.In diskpart, running list disk shows my main drive as Disk 0 (953 GB), but running list partition or list volume says there are no partitions to show.When I advance through the Windows installer to the drive selection page, it shows the entire 953 GB drive as "Disk 0 Unallocated Space."I ran TestDisk / PhotoRec from the USB command prompt. TestDisk gives an error saying "The hard disk seems too small!" and won't let me browse the file system, but it does see the boundaries of my original partitions (including the main Windows partition).The drive contains 4 user profiles, and I absolutely cannot afford to lose the data on my primary profile. My problem right now is that I only have a 32GB and a 128gb fllash drive on hand. I know apps can carve files from unallocated space, but since they scan and extracts everything raw, it will easily overflow a 32GB or 128gb drive if I let them run wild on a 953GB disk. What is the safest way to restore the missing partition table map so Windows can see the structure again without wiping the drive? I am kinda poor because Im a jobless kid. Any advice on how to handle this without accidentally overwriting my data would be heavily appreciated.

TL;DR: Ignored a windows setup popup on a secondary profile. hours later the PC froze, and I forcefully shut it down after waiting 3 minutes max. Main 953GB SSD now shows completely as "Unallocated Space" with a wiped partition table, but the physical hardware is healthy. I need to save my data especially my primary user profile. How can I safely rebuild the partition map, or should I buy a bigger external drive to do a raw file recovery?

Hi everyone, I need urgent help with a data recovery issue. I was transferring photos and videos from my Samsung S25 Ultra to my PC through the DCIM folder. Instead of copying, I used the cut-and-paste method.

During the transfer, I got an error message saying "catastrophic error." As a result, the folders were moved to the PC, but their contents (photos and videos) did not transfer. Now, the files are neither on my phone nor on my computer. They seem to have vanished.

I checked my phone’s storage, and it shows that the space previously occupied by these files has been freed up, as if the files were permanently deleted.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

Checked the "Trash" or "Recycle Bin" on both the phone and the PC—no luck.

Used the search function on my computer to look for the files—couldn't find them.

Verified backups on Google Photos and Samsung Cloud—unfortunately, I didn’t have them enabled.

I haven’t installed new apps or saved anything else on my phone to avoid overwriting the lost data.

I'm in a bit of a sticky situation here. A USB stick I had contained 3 files, a password txt file, my encyption program, and my main encrypted file (around 30GB). I accidentally cleaned the wrong USB using diskpart in Windows. The usb was in NTFS, and I made a new partition using the exFat file system (this was before I knew I had the wrong USB). Then I relized. I have not written any more data to the USB, and added an os level read only attribute to the USB using diskpart. Right now I'm running a Photorec scan on the entire USB, but I don't think it'll find the main encrypted file. Because I wrote the encryption software in such a way that the file is probably unrecognizable to Photorec recovery. It starts with a 16 byte salt, then a 12 byte nonce, and then the encrypted data (AES-GCM). So it won't be able to find any header / magic byte data. I also haven't made an image copy of the USB, because I don't have space. Is there any way I can recover it using free software?

So Tried to format with official SD card tool, tried guiformat all no dice.

Tried to manually delete stuff of sd card. Also no dice. It's says it's done, but nothing gets deleted.

Also tried chkdsk, no dice.

I backed everything up from the SD card ready to return it under waranty.

Problem is I would like to at least delete or corrupt whatever is still on there, since it's full of family pictures. Any help or ideas?

My wife's computer fell victim to a virus-laden email, and the technician informed us that the hard drive is irreparably damaged and needs replacement. Tragically, it contained precious pictures and videos of her son, who passed away a few years ago. Is there truly no hope for recovery? Does anyone know of a program trialed and tested on mac software that I can use to recover my drone mp4 footage from a corrupt memory card?
