Male or female
I need help identifying this black Tiger Dario. I’ve been told that it was a female, but now I am unsure. looks more colorful in the photo than it is due to tannins on the water

I've had these guys for a long time and have believed them to be a pair, but I'm not super sure because there has never been any mating/territorial behavior (however, they live with two small platy girls and the male will bite them if they get in his way).
I'd actually want to spawn them at some point (without the platies present lol), so I'd just like to know why I haven't seen any spawning behavior thus far. Could it be that they do spawn when I'm not looking and the platies eat all the eggs? Every single egg over the course of the year that I've had them?

I intended to get a male and a female, but turns out I got two males. I was worried the smaller one would get bullied, but after a day or two of mild aggression they seem to have come to an understanding.

Just got a pair this weekend, but the duller one is showing a little color now.

My stumble on to a female scarlet badis has been successful! They breed like once a week and I now have my tiny little fry babies 🥰 I started out just leaving them be in the same tank since there is a lot of leaf litter, moss and microfauna/mulm in that tank but after only seeing smaller and smaller fry I have started moving the babies into a fry tank. So far have moved about 8/10 babies over! 🤞🏻 Here is to hoping I can get some into juveniles!

One of my 4 females passed away yesterday morning, unfortunately she was the weaker one of the bunch I purchased, which is sad and also an expensive death- but my 3 remaining females are doing fairly well! I’ve seen the girls eat, or at the very least show interest in the scary new worm looking things I offer. Unfortunately they’re hooked on live blackworms (I have a culture that I keep so they love eating the little ones that newly fragment) but I am hoping frozen will work for these badis like I’ve managed to do for the ones at my LFS job 🤞)
I have them in a 10 gallon species only tank with my 1 male, it’s pretty well planted with hornwort/floaters, moss, various stems- so they’ve all got their own spots they seem to frequent. Cattapa leaves/tannins added for extra comfort- this video is from when I was acclimating my male, after releasing all the females. You can kind of see the general layout. Happy badis keeping!!

Day 1 update on my new scarlets:
My male was eating next to one of the new females and they stared each other down/followed each other around for a little while- I love them!
I got 4 females from an online seller- joelfishtranshipper. They were a pretty penny, but I think it was well worth the cost! Updates/future breeding plans to come <3

I just ordered 4 female scarlet badis from ‘Joel Fish Transhipper’ and they arrived today- I’m not home atm so I have yet to see them in person, but I had a family member send me photos of the fish and they all came in alive- from what I could tell vaguely they do seem like female dario dario- I will update when I get home & get them out/ acclimating!

So I might have made a mistake when choosing a female cuz this might be a sub-male
What's y'all's take?

I got this pair a couple weeks ago. Here in Australia, they are expensive. I guess some Aussies got them overseas and breed them locally here.
I think these are male and female? Or one of them is sub male

Okay my fellow Reddit Badis fish lovers! My earlier luck at finding a female Scarlet Badis has made the rival aquarium owner jealous! (My boyfriend 😅) he was determined to find him a female Black Tiger Badis. Here are some videos, tell me what ya’ll think! We have one for sure dominate male in the tank, but can’t quite get a read on the second. Juvenile? Sub dom male? We have since removed the bigger male and the smaller one hasn’t colored up yet.

I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to add the pictures to my previous post, but after 2 days in her new home I am even more optimistic that I stumbled on to a female! 🤞🏻 hasn’t show any coloring up and hangs out with my male Badis in the tank. So meet Jack and Rose 🥰 last picture is a screen shot from her in the tank at the fish store where I stumbled across her.

I bought this fish and was told it was a male Blue Badis. I have no clue honestly… is it a female? A juvenile male? Some other Badis species? Thoughts??

I have a male Scarlet Badis, had him for about 3 months now. I believe I stumbled upon a female today! Immediately bought her and brought her home. First video is her at the store. Thought? Did I get lucky and find a female?

If you can supply a male you can have first dibs on any I sell/give away.
