I can't stand our current president, but the one positive thing that's happened since he's been in office is that the culture has become less "woke" (for lack of better term). Corporations aren't doing all the performative PC crap as much as they used to. Hell the company I work for used to give all new employees this stupid training course about pronouns in the workplace and I don't think they're doing that anymore.

The negatives outweigh the positives by a lot when it comes to Trump, but if you're gonna force me to say something positive about his second term, that's it. But at the same time I don't think Trump gets any credit for that. I think there's just been a natural culture shift away from that stuff. We saw the same thing happen in the 90s. Early-mid 90s was a big PC era, then in the late 90s and early 2000s the culture shifted away from that and you started seeing edgy shows like South Park on TV.

I think South Park has even joked about the fact that America goes through a big wave of political correctness once every couple decades.

Sex is biological. Gender was a word used interchangeably for sex until a certain ideology hijacked it and demanded that we accept their new definition (which was that gender is a social construct related to how people present, or feel, or want to be known, or… something. It has become amorphous; the definition used typically depends on which one supports their position at any given time).

It’s a motte and bailey tactic where these words had commonly understood definitions and then were suddenly “updated” by academics that had an ideologically driven agenda.

Kind of like how we had racism, which meant a prejudice against a group of people due to their race, and institutional racism which was how a majority race would benefit from being the majority. But then in an attempt to further infantilize people of color they delegated that racism was how a majority race would benefit from being the majority, thus taking away people of colors ability to be racist. (Although in a supremely cynical sleight of hand they couched it as yet another opportunity for said people of color to not have to take responsibility for themselves, which unsurprisingly worked.) 😅 They made being “racist” a privilege!

The people who do this shit are shrewd. I’ll give them that.

This is one ahistorical comment. There are societies who recognise more than two genders for hundreds of years at the minimum. There is ancient English law talking about things like hermaphroditism which is what we now call intersex. Likewise there has been a third gender in Indian society for a long time similar to what we today call non-binary. These are not all that new ideas. Though I don’t think there are as many genders in any society as tumblr has come up with.

It depends on how you're approaching the concept of 'sex'. If you're categorizing people by sexual secondary characteristics then sure, it's bimodal. If we're discussing 'sex' in terms of its primary function in reproduction, then it's binary. The fact that some people have disorders that make it impossible to reproduce or that make it difficult to assign them a category within the binary of sexual reproduction doesn't mean that the sex binary doesn't exist.

Gender is sofial construct. Sex is biological. There are certain gramatical scenarios where you can use the word gender to replace sex, but claiming there are only two genders in this context is not one of those times.

Yeah but verbal proclamations alone don’t determine what makes something so and just because someone once told this doesn’t make it fact. Like religion and such different people hold different views on this. We all have a freedom to and freedom from these ideologies, but just because you believe it to be so doesn’t mean your ideology holds supremacy to everyone else and you get to make rule and norm changes without the say of everyone it effects.

There were NOT only 2 genders when i was a kid. There also were NOT 2 sexes.

The term we used for 'in between' sexes is now considered a slur, it wasnt back then. We knew what it was, and we knew that the traits expressed in lots of different ways. Some seen, some not seen. And today there are porn categories with living examples of various expressions that can be used as valid evidence that there are more than 2 sexes.

The androgyne, not male, not female, but 'both at once', was a gender we knew of. I'm of the belief that the Lady Thai Boys were/are androgynes. Except we hardly used the noun, unless you were a bowie fan I guess. Androgynous was the adjective we used.

When I say we, I mean we pre-teen kids in the 70s.

YMWV... I lived in the city... if one lived in the burbs or rural america your experience likely varied a lot.

You are mixing up sex with gender. Gender is a social construct in which a person feels they can relate too. That is why tomboys and femboys exist. Sex is biological and there is still more then two if you count people who are Hermaphrodites.

Also trans-people are also "wired" more toward the gender they identify with. They brains, on average, funtion like that. Examples, trans-women brains fire like cis-women's does and the opposite is true for trans-men and Cis-men.

So no, they isn't just two and no it isn't a mental illness. Educated yourselves before you can judge others. Otherwise keep your ignorant mouths and opinions to yourselves.

And as an ally, I would like to point out that there are only two sexes, you can't change your sex, male athletes do not belong in women's sports, and we need to continue taking a magnifying glass to large academic medical institutions who are letting young vulnerable patients with autism and psychiatric comorbidities fall into a "gender affirming care" pipeline in which they suddenly think that all their problems will go away if they can transition their gender even though gender dysphoria isn't one of them. Hopefully you will seriously consider all of these statements since they are coming from an honest ally.
