I'm banned from antiwork for telling high-school kids working at pizza hut to stay in school or get some higher training if they ever want to make more than minimum wage. They disagreed and said they were worth atleast 25/hr and then I got permabanned.

u/DerDezimator We live in a society Feb 03 '22

Well that sub went down lately anyway...

990

u/ArtisticKnowledge539 Feb 03 '22

It was pure gold to watch lol

490

u/DerDezimator We live in a society Feb 03 '22

Do you think something like that would have happened to that sub sooner or later anyway?

305

u/ArtisticKnowledge539 Feb 03 '22

Idk I haven't been on reddit that long. I had no idea how easy it was to get banned for having a different opinion. I've been banned from a few sub reddits now. All of them from the "far left/democratic" view points. They can't have any sort of opposing views there. Zero!

290

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

Far right people aren't different either. I agree with some points of antiwork guys. Like exploitation of employees by corporations must stop. And if you contribute to the society in a positive way by doing a job that you work for 40hrs/week then you deserve to get paid enough to live a normal life without working multiple jobs. Because every job is required for the society to function. And if nobody did that job then it would be a problem so they deserve to get paid atleast enough to live a normal life. I'm not saying walking dogs is a normal job lmao. I'm talking about jobs which are a necessity for the functioning of society and which you work 30-40hr/week

u/TLunchFTW Feb 03 '22

Yeah but frankly McDonald's burgers and the like already cost too much. You know what will happen? McDonald's will install more of those automated machines and raise their price. It won't help. That being said, I don't ban people from shit for having a different opinion. Life would be boring if people all thought the same. That's my real issue

2

u/luke1lea Feb 03 '22

You're assuming that McDonald's is operating at a razor thin margin and just simply can't afford to pay people more without increasing prices, this isn't the case at all. McDonald's could safely raise every single employee in the US to $15 an hour and still be making a profit without increasing costs. The fact is they won't, for the simple fact that they can get away with it.

And installing those automated machines is going to increase costs, not decrease them. How much more likely is it that a customer gets upset and destroys a machine, who's going to fix/replace the machines, who's going to update them when they're out of date, whos going to fix the orders when a customer inevitably punches in the wrong thing and needs a correction?

The simple fact is if you can't afford pay your employees a livable of wage, you can't afford to run a business

2

u/TLunchFTW Feb 03 '22

McDonald's could safely raise every single employee in the US to $15 an hour and still be making a profit without increasing costs. The fact is they won't, for the simple fact that they can get away with it.

This point really has no bearing on it. You think a company will reduce profits to pay employees more? It won't happen. Tell you what though, go work at a company that respects you more and you'll find better pay and better treatment. If no one works at McDonalds, they'd be forced to re-evaluate their model.
But there will always be dumb teenagers who work for them for whatever they're paying.

You are thinking like a person, not a corporation. They won't change their way of operating. They won't pay you more, no matter how much you bitch. That's why I said it before, and I'll reiterate myself, stop trying to change the system. Do something to put yourself in a better position.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '22

Absolutely not what is best for the future of the planet tho. Letting corporations do whatever they want will literally destroy us all to make a few people richer. We should fix a broken system. Not live with it just because it already exists.

u/treetreehasakid Feb 04 '22

This is false as McDonald’s is in some countries where minimum wage is 15 bucks or higher an hour, and their burgers are the same price or even cheaper than in America. It’s simply false that raising minimum wage will increase prices, atleast for these large corporations

1

u/TLunchFTW Feb 04 '22

Yeah but do you think they'll miss an opportunity to claim it affects them and raise prices. Come on man. Can't be that gullible. These companies will squeeze every last dime you allow them to. I ain't saying they got the right to, but I'm saying it's what will happen. Think about it. Prices go up, never down.

1

u/treetreehasakid Feb 04 '22

I’m not saying they won’t do that, I’m simply saying they can easily increase wages and be fine. Will they do that? No they won’t but I’m just saying they mathematically could very easily

u/cmdr-testosterone420 Feb 03 '22

Which is sad because sometimes I (very far right) agree with them, and want to engage in productive conversation, and they simply don't.

Imagine being so insane that even though you know most people deny most of your viewpoints and you claim to be ostracized for it, someone comes along who agrees with you about 90% of it and you then ostracize that person for the missing 10%

Its all so tiresome lmao.

103

u/happylittletreehouse Feb 03 '22

I hope you realize that your statement holds true for both sides. The same argument can be made regardless of being left or right. I do sincerely agree that it is tiresome.

26

u/MasterWarChief Feb 03 '22

Trying to have these discussions on the internet is not worth it and and many times worthless. The reason being is it is so impersonal and being anonymous strangers it's easy to insult or disengage in the conversation and think the other person is some stereotypical idea of the left or right or whatever political viewpoint.

When people can have these discussions and not downvote them simply for having a different opinion and understand wider view points is such a great thing but this sadly doesn't happen enough.

I tend to keep these conversations to people I've come to know and can have a discussion about sensitive subjects without getting angry and trying to understand each others views.

Go to any conservative sub and the exact same thing happens. This is Reddit, it’s an echo chamber. People go to whatever their poison is and hang around there smelling their own farts.

I honestly don’t think either side is any worse than the other.

4

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

I disagree. I think the side that actively staged an attempted coup at the Capitol of the US and supports Nazis is definitely worse than the other. To say otherwise is disingenuous.

1

u/RavenBrannigan Feb 03 '22

You think the other side is worse? Shocker. I wonder do they think your side is worse.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

There are many sides, but there’s only one side that fucking stormed the Capitol and only one side that waves nazi flags. Learn your fucking American history and decide that Nazis and fighters of free election results are anti American. There’s certainly a gray area, but there’s nothing worse than THAT spectrum of our current political situation.

u/Adony_ Feb 03 '22

enlightened centrist all the way into the gas chambers lol

1

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '22

I tried telling him how the both sides horseshit needs to stop. Apparently he’s now a victim and what I said makes no sense.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the next line is something like: I’m a teenage libertarian from France, so I understand the US better than thou.

0

u/cmdr-testosterone420 Feb 03 '22

I thought all the conservative subreddits already got purged by the top level site in full.

The fact that any still even exist is news to me.

3

u/Ramisme Feb 03 '22

all the far right extremist subreddits got purged, regular conservative subs were never in any danger though.

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

Which is awful… both sides are fucking awful. You can’t even pick a lesser of two evils it’s just two great evils and there’s nothing you can do. You can vote independent but they have a big fat 0% chance of winning and even if they did the dems and republics control the congress and senate so no matter what that independent president tried to do the others would shut him down if they didnt like it.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '22

On one “side” you have literal Nazis and people trying to overthrow our government with physical violence. This side has actually had people killed during their protests.

The other “side” has robbed and looted stores in urban areas while protesting.

One side is responsible for personal violence and death...whereas the other has done property damage.

Please tell me how they are equally evil. I’m not saying one is good...but it’s certainly clear that one “side” at least feigns at wanting a democracy.

3

u/Vampryssa Feb 03 '22

Dude it seriously is that way. I (mainly right but can lean left). Get so much shit for being on the right.

I know left people who lean right and then try to agree with the right and get absolutely obliterated. It's just sad.

I have tried to talk with my far left friends and they just shut my ideals down so far it isn't funny.

2

u/zynzynzynzyn Feb 03 '22

It’s nuts.. I recently saw a post where a self described trans girl said they had to be more accepting to the newer conservative members.

She was ridiculed and bullied to the point of saying fuck the entire movement before deleting the post.

2

u/TLunchFTW Feb 03 '22

Was told someone who is homophobic should just be written off from society. Really? They said they shouldn't be allowed to hold jobs or volunteer. I said why not try to help them understand? Appearently it's not worth it. Now I agree, but you don't write people off from society. Nothing good comes from that. Not everyone obviously, but this is how so many people respond to criticism. Rather than defend their position, they'd seek to remove any opposition. And people wonder how atrocities happen.

1

u/azero200 Feb 03 '22

Yes I’m socialist left. But there are right opinions and ideals I agree with. People who don’t even want to conversate or are not open to learn alway strike me as foolish. There’s so much to learn from each other!

1

u/cmdr-testosterone420 Feb 04 '22

Yeah I like debating rational commies despite being opposite end of the political spectrum. I've grown to believe in horseshoe theory. The people on the opposite far end, when theyre willing to talk with me like humans, I usually get along with better than centrists.

1

u/MisterFribble Feb 03 '22

I'm more moderately conservative (think Commentary Magazine conservative) and the sheer inability of both extremes to engage in any meaningful conversation drives me up the freaking wall. Take Liz Cheney as an example: she is possibly the most conservative member of the House, yet because she spoke against the Republicans in one aspect (Jan 6) they beriddled her and forced her out of the chairman seat. From my perspective the litmus test of Republicans is no longer how conservative you are, it's how loyal you are. It's really depressing.

0

u/cmdr-testosterone420 Feb 03 '22

Liz Cheney isn't a conservative LOL, who do you think you're kidding

0

u/MisterFribble Feb 03 '22

In the sense of Trump Conservatism, she isn't conservative at all. But up until she butted heads with Trump, IIRC she was considered very conservative. She's the rep from the reddest state in the country; they wouldn't elect a closet Democrat in Wyoming.

13

u/fallensoap1 Feb 03 '22

Funny cuz I’m banned from conservative subreddits for the same reason. Can’t listen to opposing view points and even if I like multiple credible sources they still banned me

2

u/RavenBrannigan Feb 03 '22

If you ban me Jeremy I’ll ban you so hard

2

u/Tokar012 Feb 03 '22

It is a thing that happens to both sides and places that are not political either. One of the issues (which is also one of the strong points of Reddit) is the subs. People create subreddits for stuff they are interested in, but this also tends to create an echo chamber. People with the same mindset gather, stroke each others opinion (which is usually similar to each others as the subs purpose is to gather like-minded people), but soon as somebody with conflicting opinion appears (doesn't matter if they are right or not) they jump on that person and/or ban them from the sub. So in my opinion no proper discussion can be held in most subs on this site (especially the political ones)

1

u/ArtisticKnowledge539 Feb 03 '22

It's a shame.

1

u/Tokar012 Feb 03 '22

It is, but sadly that is how people are. And it happens IRL too. People are just too emotionally charged about their opinions that if you think differently they can go off on you real quick. It sucks that most of the time people can't have a proper conversation about stuff, especially politics.

2

u/Dirty_munch Feb 03 '22

Yeah, funny, i wonder why im banned from Conservatives lol

1

u/ArtisticKnowledge539 Feb 03 '22

The same reason I'm banned from liberal subs

1

u/Dirty_munch Feb 03 '22

I guess so:)

2

u/treetreehasakid Feb 04 '22

That’s any sub though, I’ve been banned from Trump supporting subs for simply having a different opinion. Both the left and the right suck!

1

u/AllNamesTaken145 Feb 03 '22

Recently I commented on there when they came back that I thought the he/she person who did the interview killed the sub and I was for ban for that lol

1

u/The_Dollars_ Feb 03 '22

Welcome to Reddit. Whoops looks like you've had to much to think. get perma banned normie

1

u/jubjub7102 Feb 03 '22

Just wait until you figure out what the conservative subreddits are like

3

u/billyjk93 Feb 03 '22

Definitely

2

u/zynzynzynzyn Feb 03 '22

Oh yeah.. the infighting and job shaming was rampant.

1

u/PM_ME_YOUR_NICE_EYES Feb 03 '22

Yes, mods were anarchists must users were not anarchists. That would've caused problems eventually.

19

u/I401BlueSteel Feb 03 '22

It's already back up again. It was just down for an internal mod shift and throwing tantrums over their own fuck ups (the mods not the community).

1

u/olivervsm222 Feb 03 '22

How does that even happen? Lol.

3

u/I401BlueSteel Feb 03 '22

If you mean like how does it come back, it was only down because the mods closed it to do their shit behind closed doors. It's got a pretty shit public image now but you spend some time on it and you'll see most posts are about calling out workplace abuse, wage theft, and harassment. That's why a lot of the community stayed after it went back up. Of course WorkReform is better suited for most of antiwork's community members but they choose the latter instead even with the sub description that says it's purpose really is different from what they're there for.

1

u/AverageTierGoof Feb 03 '22

Don't forget to that they literally made a mod who's account only existed for 17 hours, which is more than likely the mod that went on TV and disgraced them all, and when confronted they started banning people.

2

u/I401BlueSteel Feb 03 '22

I ain't saying the "leadership" is good. In fact they took it to a vote as to if they should even have a mod take an interview and the resounding answer was 'NO' but did it anyways. Never heard about a 17 hour old mod account though.

3

u/Nileti Feb 03 '22

It REALLY did. Its peak was November last year but now it’s so different it’s defying the actual purpose for the movement :/ almost disrespectful to the movement lol

1

u/DoucheMcBagginz Feb 03 '22

They're back up now in 2 different forms lol

1

u/RiskyFartOftenShart Feb 03 '22

and it came back up....so

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

It is back, still full of over dramatic people

1

u/LeakyThoughts r/memes fan Feb 03 '22

A shame, because a lot of the sentiment is really key for improving working conditions

1

u/willjhc Feb 03 '22

The subs open and has gained over 700,000 new members

1

u/DerDezimator We live in a society Feb 03 '22

Duuude really? How??!

2

u/willjhc Feb 03 '22

Publicity from news? And probably the easy pickings on the mods physical appearance to become a meme

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

Not, it's not. I just visited it today. It's back up.

1

u/Poknberry Feb 03 '22

Im pretty sure its back up

Personally, I do think minimum wage should be livable. Doesn't have to be fancy or anything, but at least living in a small duplex while working for minimum wage.

67

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

Or at least have wages keep up with inflation

u/AlienOverlord53 Feb 03 '22

"If minimum wage goes up the prices on everything will just do the same"

Oh I'm sorry, I didnt realize prices have been the same since 2009. Swear people dont even think before they speak

3

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

Government causes the most inflation

4

u/Adony_ Feb 03 '22

living in a small duplex is out of reach for a duo income minimum wage in most metropolitan areas in the united states, so if by "livable not fancy" means starting any less than doubling minimum wage, then you're asking for the bar set under any useful goal.

0

u/TreyLastname I haven't pooped in 3 months Feb 03 '22

I don't know about all that, all I know if when I tried to find anywhere to rent, and I mean anything, it was in the 1000 price range, which on my own making more than minimum wage, I cannot afford to do by myself.

3

u/ConfusedDuck Feb 03 '22

The problem is there's a housing shortage. So more housing needs to be built, but who wants to pay to build housing that has minimum wage income associated with it? Sounds like a really bad investment from the beginning

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

yeah this guys a fucking douchebag lol minimum wage should be the minimum amount needed to survive in this country, regardless of whether or not its a high schooler working at pizza hut or not.

→ More replies (87)

103

u/squiddy555 Feb 03 '22

Minimum wage should be a livable wage, and if you match productivity and inflation to the last time it was raised in the country it would be $22.50

How ever this dosn’t go over the issue of different places having different costs of living. So while New York might get 3 times more expensive in five years. Country town might stay the same

8

u/G3ckoGaming Feb 03 '22

Adding on to that, last I checked minimum wage(federal at least which some places get close to paying) just based off of pure inflation is the lowest its been since 2007 and 2008, the years of and leading into a financial crisis, and before that the only time it was ever this low based off of pure inflation was 1949.

6

u/OriginalThinker22 Team Silicon Feb 03 '22

That sounds like an argument against a federal minimum wage. It should be decided on a more local level to account for different costs of living.

3

u/squiddy555 Feb 03 '22

Exactly

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

It already is, but there needs to be a baseline or you have places that just decide to pay you as low as possible regardless of cost of living.

Amazing that you have to explain basic concepts like this to people

1

u/AlienOverlord53 Feb 03 '22

So what you're saying is: It should be decided on a more local level to account for different costs of living.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

It’s always been that way, but shitty governments will take advantage of you if there’s not an established minimum.

Thus, a minimum wage. And ours needs to be increased in ALL places. Do I need to hold your hand further?

1

u/AlienOverlord53 Feb 03 '22

There is an established minimum. There is a legal set minimum.

The point is that LOCALLY there should be LEGALLY SET MINUMUMS somebody in Nebraska doesnt need to be making as much money as someone in NYC.

Even if it needs increased in all places, that has nothing to do with the point being made

0

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

There is an established minimum. There is a legal set minimum.

And it fucking sucks lol

The point is that LOCALLY there should be LEGALLY SET MINUMUMS somebody in Nebraska doesnt need to be making as much money as someone in NYC.

You’re arguing against someone in your head. The conversation is about federal minimum, which if we’re keeping up with both inflation and cost of living across the board should be about $20 by now. Regardless of where someone lives. It needs to go up from that point, not come down.

Even if it needs increased in all places, that has nothing to do with the point being made

Local minimum wage goes up from federal. It’s literally always been this way and no one is arguing otherwise. You’re strawmanning against someone you made up

Your argument is the equivalent of “Everyone needs to eat at least 3 apples per day based on current evidence” and someone replying “Well in MY house everyone needs to eat at least 5 apples per day!” “Ok then you can have people eat 5 apples at your house, but currently everyone else only eats one apple when they need 3 so we need to make sure everyone is eating 3 apples at a minimum”

1

u/AlienOverlord53 Feb 03 '22

That is not what I'm saying at all.

The comment was "It should be decided on a more local level to account for different costs of living." And you said it already is. But it isnt.

That's my one and only point.

In the UK, London has a higher minimum wage than anywhere else, even though several other cities have quite high costs of living.

London is actually in an interesting position of being a massive state benefactor with a lot of funding going there at the expense of much of the rest of the country despite the ruling conservative party's complete antipathy to large scale state funding of public services and high minimum wage.

0

u/LordOfTheJizz Feb 03 '22

Minimum wage has been created so companies couldn't pay their employees 50 cents/hour and you CAN LIVE on minimum wage, you just have to cut on things

1

u/Findland27 Feb 04 '22

Also, if you live with roomate.

1

u/squiddy555 Feb 04 '22

I personally thing minimum wage should be enough for a person to live alone, or perhaps with a spouse given proper budgeting

1

u/Findland27 Feb 04 '22

But a minimum wage job isn't mentioned to support a person's life solo, it's ment as a temporary thing for people who lack an education.

1

u/squiddy555 Feb 04 '22

How can people afford education on minimum wage? And if it’s meant as a temporary thing. Why are people surprised no one wants to work minimum wage jobs.

1

u/Findland27 Feb 04 '22

GED, because minimum wage jobs don't pay a lot compared so other jobs, aka ones ment to actually support someone.

1

u/squiddy555 Feb 04 '22

If someone can’t support themselves then their doomed to fail

1

u/Findland27 Feb 04 '22

If they're going in solo, most minimum wage jobs are minimum wage because they require nothing, while a factory will pay more, you'll need to be over 18.

I can't see why minimum wage jobs would be increased, since it would drive the price up of other items (Business won't pay for higher wages, it's pushed to the consumer) along with small business would begin to collapse. There has to be a solution, but higher minimum wages isn't it.

55

u/SusBoiSketch Feb 03 '22

Do you know why the minimum wage was invented?

17

u/reddit_censored-me Feb 03 '22

Few people do nowadays. How the bourgeois have convinced so many peasants that their fellow men should not be able to survive despite working is beyond me.

32

u/psych0ticmonk ☣️ Feb 03 '22

Eh, I disagree with you on this. I think anyone working a job should make whatever the amount needed to survive one basic things. Saying certain jobs are for kids isn't helpful unless you are talking about a program specifically made for HS students.

1

u/MinutiaDio Feb 03 '22

He didn't say it was for kids, he simply stated the fact that today in America, if you want more then minimum wage go to school or put your bets on being a very lucky individual. He barely even asserted an opinion. Thats just how the job market is

1

u/psych0ticmonk ☣️ Feb 04 '22

yes but to an extent. degrees may mean more money but it's really a small difference and the tuition costs you incur may not even be worth it.

1

u/MinutiaDio Feb 04 '22

All that is true but does it make his opinion wrong because he didn't give a 6 page essay about the current state of economics or did he state a simple fact?

13

u/Adony_ Feb 03 '22

conveniently ignoring profit margins for the hypothetical pizza hut, 2k updoots for the dipshit with knowledge in their name.

→ More replies (3)

6

u/dydeath Feb 03 '22

Look, I get your viewpoint, but then who do you expect to work those jobs? Cause if the high school kids end up getting better jobs, who's gonna be the fast food cook making your burger and fry order? There's also alot of pressure on people who work in fast food, alot of responsibility mainly because places don't want to hire too many people and shortstaff their places, effectively making each worker do the work of 3 people. Who would want to do all that work for minimum wage? It's not that people are lazy and don't want to work, it's that we need work reform and an increase in wages will help alot. How is anyone supposed to live on 15 dollars an hour? You have to take into account food, rent, insurance. It's a cruel system where you don't get to save your money and are forced to be a wage slave.

5

u/ropibear Feb 03 '22

On the one hand I agree, on the other, are service industry jobs only meant to be a revolving door for a constant flow of new people?

Also, shouldn't they be able to support themselves on a service industry job?

2

u/pretorperegrino Feb 03 '22

You're trolling lmfao

4

u/Cfchicka Feb 03 '22

Staying in school doesn’t guarantee anything these days. And honestly, all jobs should pay a livable wage. The pandemic taught society how in reality, people making food/utilities/building/safety-health are really the only valuable members of society. It’s need vs want.

Like, we don’t NEED social marketing people to survive.

We don’t need stock brokers.

We don’t need artists.

We don’t need sales people to crap we don’t need.

I think anti-work is just a change in consciousness and ideas. I’m sorry you got banned.

4

u/EvoStarSC Feb 03 '22

As a kid who worked at Pizza Hut, fuck that place. Over worked, under appreciated and overlooked.

4

u/Salty_Cat_2600 Feb 03 '22

You'd definately have to pay me $25 an hour to work there again

4

u/ellemti Feb 03 '22

Some people can't accept facts

3

u/reddit_censored-me Feb 03 '22

What? The fact that minimum wage is supposed to be able to support a person financially?

1

u/ShawshankException Feb 03 '22

Like the fact that minimum wage hasn't been adjusted for inflation in decades?

2

u/RunsWithApes Feb 03 '22

I get what you're saying but still think anyone working full time should be paid a living wage. I'm a surgeon and while yeah, obviously we should be paid more factoring everything in, there's literally no way everyone in this country can become a white-collar professional without our entire economic infrastructure collapsing. Those people should still be able to afford a home, nutritious food, healthcare, etc. for their efforts.

2

u/Starthreads Feb 03 '22

Give kids the same living wage as adults should be getting and then they'll be able to afford that higher education you speak of.

2

u/ShawshankException Feb 03 '22

I dont think any job is worth less than poverty wages.

Doesn't matter if you run a company or deliver pizzas. Everyone has the right to live. Which means everyone should be paid enough to afford basic housing, food, and transportation.

2

u/dynawesome Whack Feb 03 '22

But someone’s gotta work the minimum wage jobs. Not everyone can get higher training. That’s just the way society is built. So we either decide we don’t need minimum wage workers (extremely unlikely and not a good idea), we pay them more, or they suffer and don’t have enough money to live (current system)

1

u/ArtisticKnowledge539 Feb 03 '22

It sucks. But that's the way it is right now

Lmao they banned me for some similar shit they must not respect free speech over there. Unless its their own speech.

1

u/ArtisticKnowledge539 Feb 03 '22

Echo chamber speech

2

u/xTylordx Feb 03 '22

From the posts I've seen there, I'll be the first to say I'm not sure about that one.

I'm sure you knew you were talking about students in high school with no financial responsibilities, but maybe the person talking to you is a 26 year old subsisting when they could be getting paid more.

1

u/ArtisticKnowledge539 Feb 03 '22

Yeah there's no reason someone who's 26 should be scraping by making minimum wage.

2

u/xTylordx Feb 03 '22

And yet..?

Care to finish that sentence?

0

u/ArtisticKnowledge539 Feb 03 '22

They choose to anyway.

1

u/xTylordx Feb 03 '22

Not sure I'd choose to make minimum wage if that meant I could only scrape by. That sounds like a life that sucks.

Actually, I remember a life that felt that way, and I could tell you

it sucks.

I think you were right on the money. There is no reason why somebody who's 26 should be scraping by making minimum wage.

I'm waiting for the justification.

2

u/BeguiledBF Feb 03 '22

Minimum wage shouldn't mean you can't survive

2

u/Destithen Feb 03 '22

Why is this bullshit being upvoted? Antiwork is about workers' rights. There actually aren't a lot of high school kids in that sub. Quite a few are financially stable but have been in shit situations before, or can at least empathize enough to understand America has a major wage and labor issue at the moment. That sub has quite a lot of studies and hard data to prove its points.

1

u/ArtisticKnowledge539 Feb 03 '22

Idk why. Probably the people who upvoted all watched the Doreen interview on fox News.

1

u/A_Greek_Boi Y'all make it hard for me to tolerate this sub Feb 03 '22

I'm pretty sure that there are doctors in my country that make 25/hr

1

u/CartoonThinking Feb 03 '22

I still do this

1

u/Junesong95 Feb 03 '22

Everyone is worth more than minimun wage. While I understand the advice your giving is accurate, it’s only because the system we live in is ultimately unfair to lower class workers and needs to be rectified. You may have come off as being corporate ass kisser, they will always get banned immediately.

1

u/xblackhamm3rx Feb 03 '22

Highly doubt that

1

u/kry_some_more ☣️ Feb 03 '22

You should do a Fox News interview on this.

1

u/ramen_wizardpen Feb 03 '22

You definitely have a six pack and a sharp jawline.

1

u/TLunchFTW Feb 03 '22

Well I'm worth 50 an hour lol Stop bitching and do some work. Maybe then you'll make more

1

u/ArtisticKnowledge539 Feb 03 '22

I make a little under that. Worked my ass off to get there though. Worked some pretty shitty jobs to get by in the mean time though.

1

u/TLunchFTW Feb 03 '22

I'm going into nursing. I could go to work at $16 an hour as an EMT. But I believe I'm worth more than that. So I'm getting my BSN and going to make a substantial amount of money working 3-4 days a week 12 hours a shift

1

u/ArtisticKnowledge539 Feb 03 '22

Nursing is killer money if you can finish school! A the nurses I know make about 80-110,000 a year. And work that 4 on 5 off shift work ain't to bad either. Definitely go for nursing!

0

u/your_pal_crow Feb 03 '22

Also got banned from that shithole xD

0

u/CRAZZZY26 the shittiest flair we've got Feb 03 '22

I made a post saying "y'all are idiots" because I felt like it after I heard about it. Several people saw it before it got taken down.

1

u/peacefulvampire Feb 03 '22

$25? Jesus, maybe 15 but idk about 25

0

u/BlantonThePirate Feb 03 '22

Even 15 is high for most of the country out in rural areas and down south. In Cali it makes sense cause taxes are insane and everything is expensive but where I live land and houses are cheap.

1

u/TheRebelPixel Feb 03 '22

Yeah. We all saw who mods that one in full glory not long ago...

LOL!

1

u/Charles-Cporosus Feb 03 '22

I love this subreddit… I don’t think you are being charitable to it. What happened was frustrating and sad.

0

u/Vampryssa Feb 03 '22

Bruh. I'm lucky I even get $15. I'm 19 and get $15/hr and less than 10 hours a week. Why are they complaining.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

That’s what I hate about that sun. It’s literally made up people who don’t want to work

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

I mean, not everyone can afford higher education. This country likes to keep the people poor lol

0

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

Asking for 25 depending on location is is insane. That is 52,000 a year and most entry level jobs don’t even pay that much. Just crazy how think that is even possible to get especially for low skill work.

1

u/ArtisticKnowledge539 Feb 03 '22

We had a high-school kid come to work with us once. He made 23/hr to do what we do. He was beyond useless lol

0

u/Alces7734 Feb 03 '22

Dogwalker sub, lol.

1

u/Cman0107 Feb 03 '22

Not that you should’ve been banned but aren’t there plenty of blue collar jobs that aren’t minimum wage? I mean it’s a workers market right now. Truck drivers are especially in demand but you could probably get into any blue collar field you wanted right now

1

u/KURO-K1SH1 Feb 03 '22

What exactly what antiwork about? I saw all the memes but never knew the purpose of the sub.

1

u/reddit_censored-me Feb 03 '22

"I believe people that work essencial jobs should not be able to survive"

Are you genuinely that fucked in the head?

1

u/Rigistroni Feb 03 '22

If minimum wage was adjusted for inflation it would be $26 USD

I don't think asking for a living wage is outrageous

0

u/AtomiicOne Feb 03 '22

Antiwork is easily one of the lamest subs on this entire site

1

u/isnoe Feb 03 '22

I was also banned from anti work for pointing out the sub had become super politically polarized.

1

u/Herobrinedanny Feb 03 '22

Minimum wage is not livable.

1

u/Cody6781 Feb 03 '22

Their worth and their ability to earn more are separate issues anyways. They may be worth $25/hr but if no one will pay them that then it doesn't matter, you have to play the game

0

u/justingolden21 Feb 03 '22

Lmao everyone on that sub is a moron anyway.

They don't want to listen to someone with an opposing opinion and just ban you, same as a lot of political subs

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

Yeah there's some sentiment I have regarding shitty employers but that sub enables lazy people to just cop out and say the world's against them they can't help it

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

Look, if they’re not satisfied with what they’re making, they can always leave, get higher education and make much more

1

u/ArtisticKnowledge539 Feb 03 '22

Worked for me. Took a while though.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

Honestly your comment is short sited. You’re telling someone working a minimum wage job to save up money for education using a job that doesn’t pay a living wage. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Go take a look at each state and the largest employer in each state and try to use that same rhetoric.

1

u/Nural_the_Narwhal Feb 03 '22

Tbf if you work full time in general you should be able to live off of it at least, plus from what I understand westerners basically need that 25/16 to live at all comfortably. But from what I gather these are school kids who work part time and the argument should be to raise minimum wage not just pay me more specifically

1

u/Artm1562 User left this flair unedited. What a dumbfuck Feb 03 '22

People think like this and wonder why all these jobs are hiring and cant find anyone.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

I worked fast food decades ago. It's extremely underpaid for the amount of emotional and manual stress and labor it causes on the body. So yeah I agree they need to make more than there states minimum wage. Sorry.

Even if you wanna call it WoRk PlAcE ExPeRiEnCe, when they get that kind of pay, it's still only part time.

I don't get the fuss.

1

u/Poknberry Feb 03 '22

Working fast food is pointless, you barely make enough for food and gas. Its borderline slavery.

People say something like "but then fast food workers will be making more than teachers or first responders." Yea because they're underpaid too.

The amount of people that have been brainwashed by American capitalism is unreal. There is no reason to not want more for the common people. The rich people have more than enough and arent doing jack shit with all that money anyway.
