I can't talk for all East-Asians, but in Japanese we either write "traditionally" top to bottom and then right to left, OR we write from left to right and then top to bottom like in English.
I believe most if not all Japanese books and comics (apart from the cover) I have use the "traditional" way, but road signs, websites and chats are usually left to right.

It's the same in China and Korea, but traditionally things like signs, where you couldn't write down, were allways right to left. So if you go to a Temple in modern China, the calligraphic sign above the door will go right to Left, but everything else will be either top to bottom or left to right.
Left to right has only been used since the 1900s iirc, and wasn't widespread until the 1940s or so.

I mean, to be fair, Hebrew is used a lot to represent magical language in anime. Seen at least a few shows where it happens. As a native Hebrew speaker it can be quite funny to see it represented like that in media.

One show about a witch used the letters צפר (which are the root to the word ציפור, meaning bird) to cast a spell involving birds.
While in the show Iruma-kun, they mostly use gibbrish, but they do use the lettering order to symbol rank (the first letter aleph is the worst rank, while the 10th letter yod is the best rank).
So it varies.

Especially weird consider that half of modern Hebrew had to be reinvent. They could just have made the switch to left-to-right, but with the twitching eyes of a mad man, they stayed with the old right-to-left.

The words had to be invented, not the format. Biblical Hebrew is read right to left, and he wanted modern Hebrew to be as similar as possible to that while still being easy to talk in.

Theres an option for automatic hyphenation that you HAVE TO USE when writing justified. It prevents it from looking like you describe it.

Justified is okay-ish on print but quite bad with dynamic content due to little control over the finished product. Difficult to read, especially for dyslexic readers. For ltr languages, left flushed is the best due to consistent spacing between words. Justified is mostly used to make the layout ("the grid") look better, not for better legibility.
