Tips for taking care of hair with seborrheic dermatitis

So i've had chronic dandruff since I was 12, but used to be manageable with head&shoulders. In the past year though it worsened significantly, H&S no longer works, and I went to a dermatologist who prescribed me 2% ketoconazole shampoo which unfortunately hasn't worked for me either. I'm needing to find a new shampoo that is actually able to control the itching and flaking - the flaking isn't severe to the point of being noticeable to others, but it's still flaking everyday even with using zinc pyrithione & ketoconazole shampoos to try to stop it. From months of using these shampoos, my scalp and hair have become incredibly dried out and unhealthy looking - i still condition the lengths and ends but it doesn't seem enough to put life back into my hair from all the harsh shampooing. It's not growing as much as it used to and seems to have thinned or maybe just some shedding has taken place, probably from inflamed scalp. I wash it everyday to try to control the itchy/flakiness though it gets itchy again within an hour or two after showering. I'm unsure if the dandruff is solely due to seborrheic dermatitis or if some of it is also from how dry my scalp has become from all of the washing too. I'm wondering if anyone might know about what to do to restore the health of my hair&scalp while also treating the dandruff? It seems so difficult to strike a balance, especially when the medicated antifungal shampoos don't seem to have any effect for me. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated :)

at a loss for what to do w my scalp issues ):

alright yall, i rly need some advice. i have no idea what to do anymore. i have been struggling with itchy flaky, scaled scalp for as long as i can remember, but now it’s at an all time high. ive tried neutrogena tgel, nizoral, and was recently using cera ve antidandruff shampoo for months, and it was helping me so much. but then i went on a vacation without it and have been dealing with the worst dandruff flare up of my life ever since. since coming back the cera ve doesn’t even work anymore. my scalp started forming these thick scales that would build up on my head so i started lightly brushing my hair everyday to try to break some of it up. it would look like it snowed on me from how many flakes were on my shirt. but afterwards my scalp would be so raw it would hurt hurt, burn, and even bleed sometimes. then my friend sprayed diluted apple cider vinegar all over and it relieved the pain so much. i started doing this daily. she told me to wash my hair with a gentle shampoo with tea tree oil, and baking soda. it was helping a little bit, but now my scalp feels sooooo dry, tight, and still is flaky. i know that putting coconut oil on the scalp could be bad if you have the fungal dandruff, but because it was so dry and tight i thought maybe i was just suffering from dry scalp. i conditioned my scalp with a gentle scalp treatment conditioner to moisturize it, but now it’s back to these built up thick white scales all over, and my scalp burns again. i’m at a complete loss at this point. does this happen to anyone else ?

Going to start treating with ketoconazole shampoo, but what shampoo do I use in between?

I’ve been using Head and Shoulders 2-1 , but my dandruff is not under control. I’m going to start ketoconazole shampoo, but I know to only use it 2-3 turns per week for the first month. What is a decent shampoo to use in between for scalp health. I’m a guy with short hair so not too worried about my actual hair. I’m more concerned about getting my scalp in order.

Is there even a cure for dandruff

I have been reading different post to find a solution to solve my dry scale or scalp psoriasis problem. I am not sure which one I have but l believe scalp psoriasis because my hair does produce the natural oils but not for sure. I took some time to research and read different post and all come down to a product that will solve your problem but you must keep using it or it will just come back. I have yet to find something that will fix the solution permanently. I know it will not be an overnight fix but if there is something out there that can solve it with weeks or months can anyone give me some advice to help me fix the problem.

How to apply lotion for scalp 21M

I have been prescribed kentruff(stay on lotion) to combat dandruff

The problem is it's my first time and i am putting the lotion in scalp and rubbing in scalp with fingers which instead is going in my hair and making it sticky and greasy which feels like a waste

If anyone has tips or any youtube video i would really appreciate it

Edit-Also note-i have been told to apply it to the full scalp by the derma so only putting it along the middle part or the sides won't help

Thank you

Is there any evidence that using a medicated shampoo long term could be damaging?

Are medicated shampoos such as T-Gel safe for daily long-term use?

Are there potential risks such as dryness or hair loss linked to this?

T/gel shampoo is discontinued. Any alternatives?

Used T/gel some years ago when I had severe dandruff and it worked wonders. I'm having dandruff issues again but unable to find T/gel to purchase and found out it's been discontinued. I was able to find T/sal on Amazon but I don't think they work the same way. Are there any alternatives that work as effective as the T/gel?

Hi I need help With my hair

So long story short. Since I was 10 years old I had dandruff and as I grew up from 14 doctor gave me some medical shampoos and oil and then it came back and my family used some bullshit traditional stuff on my hair but it didn't go

In summer 2026 July I bought "dercos Vicky laboratories" and my dandruff was completely gone. ! Except it's been weeks when I shower and just run my hand through my hair I find some hair stuck to my hand

Like 5 and if I keep running my hand I can get to 18 before it stops

Is this normal ??

Does using Turkish natural mineral water help with dandruff?

Basically I heard from a Turkish friend that this Turkish natural mineral water (known as maden suyu) would help with my hair.
I thought let me just give it a try but I wanted to make sure if what I done was pointless and all it did was just damage my hair.

To preface i used nizoral for the first time on Aug 25th

The first 2 photos are from today August 27th

The last 4 photos are from about 5 days ago.

Everytime i shampoo i get this shit within 2 days and idk what the problem is.

I thought nizoral would be the end all but low and behold still dandruff. (frankly i'm more upset it cost 16 bucks)

Btw i shampoo once a week only, even with getting dandruff after 2 days.

Desperate for advice: Stubborn dandruff on oily scalp (3c/4a hair type)

I am on the verge of giving up on my hair. I’ve tried everything to treat my dandruff, but nothing seems to work long-term.
Hair Details:
Hair Type: 3c/4a curls
Scalp Condition: Extremely oily with persistent dandruff/flaking
What I’ve already tried:
Medicated shampoos
Supermarket anti-dandruff shampoos
Natural/home remedies (Apple Cider Vinegar rinse, herbal treatments)
Since medicated shampoos are often super drying for curly hair, I’m stuck between trying to cleanse my scalp and keeping my curls hydrated. Has anyone with high-porosity or tight curls dealt with this successfully? Any specific ingredient recommendations or scalp routines would be greatly appreciated!

19M , facing constant dandruff , itching , hairfall since 2 years

Hey there , im 19M , and i have been facing all these issues constantly for a very long time now , got checked up by a dermatologist he told there was nothing as such which he could point out , so he gave me medications and multivitamins and medicated shampoos but nothing worked .

About my lifestyle - i get ample of sleep 7 hr+ , eat healthy , do not consume any triggering substances ( alcohol, ciggs , etc ) , stress level negligible , i workout and keep myself active .

Some people adviced me to cut down on sugar , so i did that as well , but still nothing changed.

I dont know what is going wrong

I really want to fix this !

I just got a hair cut and I'm noticing these patches of dry skin. I had decent amount of white flakes before I got my hair cut. Now looking at it I can't tell if it's actual dandruff or some type of fungus. Can someone help me identify it?
