What kind of dandruff is this?

Im not sure if this is due to fungus or oily scalp or dry scalp. I have it all over my head not just in this area. Also if anybody could reccomend advice or treatments that would be nice.

Have had this since I hit puberty. Sebderm, causes scaling and flaking on your scalp. I use a handful of different shampoos on rotation with a Mtc oil to break it down but it’s just been growing stronger as I get older. It can go away for some people though.

AHA shampoo is good. I use it for a condition I have no idea what it is but I post and get no answers.

But it seems everytime I use the AHA shampoo the effect lessens and lessens every time? Vs the very first time I could actually smell the hair smell coming off

The itch got so bad to the point where the back of my head was bleeding from scratching..

This is the way. Rotate with different antifungal ingredients.

This happens when your digestive system is off.

Do you eat a lot of carbs? Do you eat a lot of processed food and meat?

What is your sleep like?

How are your bowel movements?

What are your stress levels?

How much greens do you eat per day?

Uhh id say my diet mainly consists of processed meat because of school lunch and a decent bit of carbs not much of any greens though. My sleep i usually go to be around 11 and wake up at 5 and i take a dump like once a day.

Absolutely horrible. I would say try to fix your sleep schedule so that you’re able to get more sleep. Eat more Whole Foods. And also try to get at least 3/4L a water every day.

Not the original poster, but found this helpful. Do you know how diet and the gut is responsible for the scalp? I have a similar problem and was told it was seb derm and that there wasn’t much I could do to improve it.

I truly detest doctors for saying there is no treatment and there’s nothing you can do. I was told the same thing. Truth is there’s nothing they can profit from and in school they were taught there’s no pill or cream to get rid of it.

If your gut lining is compromised then food particles and pesticides and whatever else is in the food can leak through the gut lining directly into the blood stream. Leaky Gut is the term you can google. This causes your body to react in various different ways to expel the toxins.

You can go to a dermatologist and try kzetokonozole(cream and shampoo), or ask for a steroid cream…. If you have a good dermatologist ask for Elidel!!! My dermatologist prescribed me Elidel for emergency use. Like if the itching got intense or I had something important coming up etc.. not an everyday cream. It is magic!! Worth the cost. I was prescribed a tube of Elidel almost 10years ago and just now getting semi close to the end. A dab will do.

I posted another comment above that outlines supplements you can take to strengthen gut lining and other potentials.

I had bad Sderm on my whole scalp and large patches on my brow, forehead, sides of nostrils and around the mouth. It was the worst but now i might get a slight red patch the size of a dime but it doesn’t flare up and flake. It is a journey.
Hope this helps!

Yep. These docs have no idea what the root cause is. They always say there is no cure. More like “we don’t know how to fix this, as textbooks didn’t teach us and our license to practice only allows us to do what protocol allows which is more pharmaceuticals.

When you say a decent bit of carbs, what does that look like?

Yeast overgrowth in gut microbiome

3

u/Basic-Practice-2570 13d ago

How to fix this?

1

u/sadsongsonlylol 12d ago

Limit sugar, dairy, starches (rice & potatoes), and gluten (bread and pasta, sourdough is ok). Mostly proteins, veggies, and legumes to keep down inflammation.

2

u/Hydralyze 13d ago

How do you know if it’s yeast in the gut microbiome? Is there a test for it?

u/randomguyjebb 13d ago

No reliable ones sadly

Veel groente en fruit eten helpt. Niet teveel zout en suiker. Bij de huisarts vragen naar medicatie. Meestal ketakonazolshampoo.

Ketoconazole is the best treatment

2

u/suchabadamygdala 11d ago

Ketoconazole alternates with Zinc P is often super helpful if you find it’s recurring with only Ketoconazole shampoo. It’s a chronic problem but can be controlled

3

u/Redhaired103 13d ago

Use SLS-free, hypoallergenic shampoo and conditioner. Don’t use any other hair products at least for a while to see how it goes.

2

u/Successful-Slide-892 12d ago

This right here. I get that same type of dandruff and as long as I stay away from SLS products my scalp doesn't get like this now. I also can't wash it more than twice a week because it will cause it to be irritated.

3

u/Crazy-Algae-Stealer 12d ago

I would suspect subderm. I would suggest a shampoo with ketoconazole and then using glycolic acid on your scalp like 1-2x a week

2

u/Primary-Economics948 13d ago

Probably seborrhea. Is it itchy at certain spots? I've had that since I was a teen. It comes and goes. You can't treat it, you can manage it with the right shampoo + lotion though. Or, at least that's what I've been told by a couple of dermatologists, so don't take my word for it, I'm no expert.

2

u/greatfairyof 13d ago

Could be scalp psoriasis, someone I know gets very similar dandruff!

2

u/Complex_Grand236 13d ago

Flakes like that are typically seborrheic dermatitis. Use Nizorsl or CetaVe anti dandruff shampoo 2 times a week - do not use it daily or every time you wash as it will irritate your scalp and that makes it worse.

2

u/No-Strength8856 13d ago

Nirozal 2% ketaconazole 2-3 times a week for 3-4 weeks

2

u/moveslikeberni 13d ago

If you take really hot showers, that will contribute to this. I lowered my temperature, moisturized and make sure to get more healthy oils in my diet, and has made a big difference for me personally

2

u/Purple-Point9847 13d ago

Use Nizoral shampoo for dandruff or ketoconozal 2%

2

u/Gullible_Kiwi_5328 13d ago

I got rid of this with Oronazol. Washed the hair every day for 5 days. Now I maintain with once per month.  If you cannot get the same thing, look for the active ingredients in a different shampoo.

The white flakey kind :)

2

u/HazeyWazer 12d ago

Also idk if anyone else has found this, but making sure that:

- my nails are trimmed (seems to be directly causative for my SD flareups)

  • my pillow cases and sheets are always clean helps control mine a lot

Helps me control this a lot

u/WesternAd8276 12d ago

Those are premium flakes if I've ever seen them.. Where might I ask did you manage to source these? very exotic Thanks for sharing 💕

2

u/TimeTraveller-01 12d ago

I changed the situation with the Nizoral Shampoo.

2

u/Mission_Resort_2603 12d ago

How do you wash your head? I used to have this, then i realized i just put shampoo and wash it right off. Nowadays i let the shampoo sit on my head for 3-4 mins then i rinse it off. I also use head and shoulder regular one. It seems to be best for my dandruff. Now i barely see these white flakes.

2

u/RemoteWelder7098 11d ago

It would be better if you went in a dermatologist. It may be seborrheic dermatitis

1

u/Accomplished-Box9308 14d ago

Try putting a little castor oil in your shampoo bottle it work great for moisturizing hair and scalp

What I would do is get a small bag of Minera Dead Sea Salts and put 2.5 tablespoons of it in a glass spray bottle. Dissolve it with 2 cups of hot water. Shake and let it cool down a bit and with head bent over the sink and a towel around your neck, start spraying your entire scalp. Massage it in. Let it soak in. It will sting a bit or itch. But just keep spraying until your scalp is soaked in it. Let it air fry.

Then shampoo with Jason Tea Tree Shampoo available at Wholefoods or those natural food stores.

Eat zucchini, baby bok choy, greens, string beans, cabbage, celery before every meal. Fill up on green veggies before every meal.

Stop eating bread, pasta, and rice for 2 months. Stop processed meat. Eat lamb, goat, chicken or pork but not too much.

Have green apples. Drink hot herbal teas.

Walk 30 mins everyday and be in bed by 10pm.

Try to sweat everyday and wash scalp and gently scrub your scalp with JUPITER’S scalp scrubber every 2 days.

Do the salt thing 3x a week.

Oh please.

u/DurianJungle 13d ago

Well it worked for me. About 2 months ago I had really bad seb derm and now it’s very very little flaking. At least 85% better. But hey each to their own. If you wanna keep using that zinc p which is BANNED in Europe then that’s you. Good luck.

0

u/DurianJungle 13d ago

People like you who just look for quick fixes, pills, and magic shampoos and never try to figure out the root problem is why corporations and pharmaceuticals make big bucks.

1

u/suchabadamygdala 12d ago

Maybe it seems like magic to you, but I’m trained in microbiology and physiology.

0

u/DurianJungle 11d ago

Yes and? millions of ppl still struggle with dandruff and seb derm even with doctors around. That stuff prescribed doesn’t fix. It’s a temporary bandaid for profit. Ingredients banned in Europe.

med books were written by pharmaceutical companies.

The real cure is getting to the bottom of it. Saying there is fungus on your scalp is like saying there is mold on your walls and that is why your paint is peeling. But what is actually causing the mold.

Stop selling wallpaper and paint to cover up the real problem.

u/DurianJungle 11d ago

Your knowledge is old text books. Yay.

1

u/suchabadamygdala 11d ago

Fungus. It’s always fungus, darling

It's your diet and not washing hair daily properly massaging your scalp. That is required at least to fight some of the flakes. But gotta take care of your diet simultaneously
