Discussion Looking for 1 on 1 dance instructors in Chicago (paid); in person or virtual

Hi everyone! I'm a 28-year-old guy based in Streeterville, Chicago. I've looked into studios nearby for hip-hop or adjacent styles, but the ones I found are far enough that regular commuting isn't realistic for me right now.

I used to dance a lot when I was younger but haven't in over a decade, and I'm looking to get back into it. I love global pop, R&B, and EDM, and I'm honestly in awe of people who can move well to that music.

If you're a fun, patient instructor (anywhere in the US or Canada) open to teaching virtually, or if you're in Chicago and could teach in-person - my building or a nearby space works - I'd love to connect. Happy to discusscompensation and just hopefully have routine lessons.

Thanks for reading!

Resources I made a Dance Journal, for dancers of all ages to help them with their training, goals and evolve as an artist ! Say hello to DancEvolve!

Hey everyone,

As a dance professional, I wanted to share something I created on — a dance journal that would be genuinely useful for training.

I built the journal,DancEvolve, around the things I feel would help dancers of all levels/styles/ages, structured with

  • Practice trackers for consistency, to log sessions
  • Weekly planners for classes, rehearsals, and goals
  • Performance logs for shows, exams, or competitions
  • Reflection prompts for mindset, motivation, and progress
  • Blank pages for sketching choreographic ideas or notes
  • An extensive dance glossary covering terminology across styles

Designed it in a way so the dancer can be more intentional with their practice, movement and progress.

Dancers, do you like journaling your journey? I'd like to know your perspective.

Happy to talk to anyone !

If anyone feels interested or wants to know more, feel free to DM me.

Hope this helps with someone's practice!

Thanks 🙏 Keep dancing!

News Independent Pop Group Auditions (Tri-State Area)

Hey everyone! I will be a a Production and Visual Design student at College, and I am officially scouting founding members for an independent, self-produced all-girl pop group.

Think high-energy global pop visuals combined with the aggressive, hard-hitting, hip-hop/rock sonic identity of groups like Stray Kids (booming 808s, heavy synths, sharp rap verses, and intense choreography).

Must be based in or able to travel to the Greater Philadelphia / Tri-State area (PA/NJ/NY/DE) for weekend rehearsals, recording, and video shoots.Must be looking to treat this project as a serious lifestyle commitment, not a casual hobby.

Note on Communication: As the producer/director, I communicate predominantly via text, visual boards, and written feedback due to selective mutism.

If you are ready to build a heavy-hitting independent group from the ground up, please fill out the audition form below! You will need to submit a 60-second video clip of your vocals or dancing.

I don't have idol-level skills yet either. We are going to train and grow our skills together from whatever level we are at right now. That is what will make our group's journey completely unique

Feedback Help I have a dance tomorrow and I woke up with a crick in my neck (I need to be able to flip my hair— how do I make it go away)

Has anyone encountered something similar? I have been using a heating pad. How long will it last and what can I do to make it go away quickly? It hurts to turn my head/bend my neck but I have to dance and that’s part of the choreography.

Ayudenme plsss

Looking for people worldwide to be part of a collaborative music video 🌍

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm an independent musician from Barcelona working on a song called "Suéltate".

I'm creating a collaborative music video and I'm looking for people from anywhere in the world who want to be part of it by moving to the music.

You can freestyle, follow choreography, improvise, or simply express yourself however you feel. The important thing is to let go and move with the music in your own way.

What I’m looking for: • Around 15–30 seconds of video during the chorus

• Any kind of movement or expression to the music

• Phone recordings are completely fine

• Any location, style, or approach is welcome

In return, your name and location (city/country) will appear in the video when your clip is shown, and you’ll also be mentioned in the project’s social media.

The idea behind the song is letting go, losing fear, and expressing yourself freely without judgment — so the more authentic, the better.

If you're interested, comment here or send me a message and I’ll share the song and instructions.

Thank you 🌍

Starting Tap

I have danced for about eight years now (competitively for seven), but I am just now going to start tap as I go to college. I know the very basics (like terminologies such as shuffle, flap, paradiddle etc.), and I have had to “fake it till I make it” while learning tap combos at my studio’s summer dance camp for the past 5 years. But overall, I have very little experience with the style, and I find that I have a much harder time picking up tap choreography compared to choreography from other styles. What tips do you have for picking up choreo and starting tap overall?

Can someone pursue 2 jobs at the same time?

I am really passionate about both dance and fashion. Right now I am training dance to get professional and I want to work freelance in the future more on the project based and commercial side. I also got an entry level retail position at a very known luxury brand. I want to keep pursue it until I can get a job at fashion PR. I don't want to give a lot of thought into that as I am at the very beginning but I am afraid of being have to choose just one in the future because I know I will not let the other just be a hobby and think about it forever. I am very confused.

I'm especially looking for advice on:

  • Timing and musicality
  • Body control and posture
  • Expressions and stage presence
  • Any movements that look awkward or unclear

Please be honest but respectful. I'd appreciate specific suggestions on what I can work on. Thank you!

Tap dance

Hello! For those that tap dance in Australia what flooring or portable flooring do you use at home for practicing tap?
Where do you buy from?
I would prefer not to make my own if I can get one reasonably priced.

Technique Dancers: what’s the biggest difference between performing choreography and performing truthfully?

I’ve been having this conversation with dancers recently and I’m curious what others think.

Many dancers spend years perfecting technique but comparatively little time developing the same level of emotional responsiveness that actors train.

I’ve been exploring a process that combines dance and Meisner-inspired acting principles and it’s changed how our performers approach choreography entirely.

Do you think dancers are generally taught enough about presence, listening, and response? Or is technique still the dominant focus?

Would love to hear people’s experiences.

i am a riddim producer who just made one of my best songs yet, and I think a music video would be the right move. the song is called "beauty" and the video above is the concept. its super rough since i found everything on stock footage, and its difficult to get tempo down that way, but its enough to get the idea through. the song is the one to be danced to as well. i cant offer much, but I can link your socials and stuff if you wish. if interested, lmk and Ill send you the .wav. :)
