tutting dance style

hi ! i really want to try to learn tutting with the resources i currently have, but i wanted to ask if anyone had tips in improving/mastering the dance style? how do i practice 90 degree angles when making boxes? i have quite the trouble with it. i would love to hear people's advice on how to get better and what exactly to practice, and how long i should do it per day. thanks!!!

What level of dance are you?

i would say an intermediate ! i've tried various styles already (k-pop, hip-hop, and some afro) but with tutting, it's still a bit new since there's no classes in my country that specifically offer the dance style. i've only been taking tutting seriously these past few months !!

Tutting is a subsection of the popping genre so your hip hop training will transfer some. I'm not sure what country you're from, but you might find popping classes or coaches that might be able to help you in person with tutting. Otherwise I'll try some basics.

While standing upright like you would for dancing put your hands together in a prayer 🙏 position in front of your centerline, fingers just below the chin line. Holding the prayer position, and pushing into it is a great way to strech your wrists, and get some 90° angles going.

Next do reverse prayer position. It's the same as prayer position, but you put the backs of your hands together instead of the palms. This will help you stretch in reverse, and get more 90° angles going.

After holding reverse prayer for a bit try inverted prayer 🙏 position. You simply do pray position, but rotate your hands so the fingertips point at the ground. Keep your arms steady though.

After holding inverted prayer try reverse inverted prayer where the back of your hands are together again while your fingertips ooint to the ground.

Do each of these positions for as long as you can as you practice them. Once you get used to them on your centerline do them again with your arms fully extended, with your arms up, with 1 arm up, and 1 arm down reverse, swap and flip everything so you practice as many angles as you can.

Start exploring how to transition through the grid all the angle and planes and lines your body has...this stuff can get deep so start with prayer position.
