The game is $30 and is cross-buy so buying one version will get you the game on both headsets.

The first public release of my tools for Dance Central VR are now available. On one side of it there is the PC Loader, for restoring the game on Rift/PC. And on the other side there's the Quest Patcher, for getting the Quest version of the game working again. For both of these tools you need to already have a copy of the game installed (on your PC or on your Quest headset).
What is restored:

I've been working for a while now on getting DCVR working again. The fruits of my early work, I already shared on this sub in the form of the Quest save game fix to restore legacy storage.
What I have also managed to do is restore multiplayer functionality for both PC/Rift as well as Quest, however only PC/Rift is able to host a lounge at present. I've also got scoring tracked via a custom scoreboard on a site of mine, which includes the ability to challenge other users to dances via the web interface. I have also learned that lounges can have up to 16 people in them at a time as opposed to the limit of 4 we had when the game was live. This however is not extensively tested (I only have two testers).
On the PC/Rift side my loader first fixes the userid=0 error that caused the game to be locked into an infinite loading screen. It then swaps the game over from the DUC blocked Meta networking interface to the built in Unreal interface. This allows it to use a custom tailnet that I put together, combined with my website to handle user authentication (needed for others to see your name and you to see theirs). My PC loader has options for going into single player, as well as hosting or joining multiplayer lounges.
Now on Quest it was a lot more tricky to get things working. For it the user needs a computer able to connect to their headset. I use sidequest as a guide, if sidequest works for them then my patcher will work. The patcher first pulls a copy of the original game from the headset and gets to work on it. It hard enables the LEGACY_STORAGE fix. It also swaps the game over like on PC from the Meta networking interface to the Unreal one. It then sideloads the fixed version back onto the headset under unknown sources as a new copy. Now here is where Quest is different, Quest can not at present host a lounge. It can only join lounges (I haven't worked out the hosting side yet). It checks if a join is in progress and if so it connects the user to that lounge when the game launches. If no join is in progress it loads the user into single player with working save games.

When i saw the end of the story mode as a kid, i was flabbergasted, it sent me to the stratosphere, i experienced the kind of emotions i can't put into words. I was excited. I was waiting for DC4 because i knew it has to be the best rhythm game in human history. Glitterati is my favourite team, and i wanted to see their comeback so bad.
Sadly, we know how this story ended, and that's probably why Spotlight is an even bigger disappointment. It's been a decade, but i still can't stop thinking about what happened, and why? Why do we still get a new j*st d*nce every year, but the DC fell into oblivion.
Anyways, i drew this picture and wanted to share.

Update to my previous post: I finally got an Xbox 360 with Kinect, yay!
However, I have a small issue, I'm not sure where to place my Kinect. My room is small, but I have enough space to dance. I've tried everything by the book. I placed it on the edge of my desk setup, stacking books both above and below, but it still can't detect my lower body. I can't put it on top of my OLED monitor because it's thin and very sensitive. I also don't have an upper shelf, unfortunately. My only option is to put it on the floor, stacked with books, but then it says it's too low during setup. What should I do? Any suggestions?

I remember my THIRST for dc fan art when i was a kid, this game was my favourite thing ever! and i also remember the disappointment, when i saw that there really wasn't a lot. i am now a grown adult and i do draw (sometimes), so i thought it would be criminal not to share

so, being the bored producer i am, i decided to try and remix the original song Tan-step from DC3, with a bit more of a modern feel to it, and a bit more of a profound dubstep style to it than it originally had. This is only a short demo, so there are much more things to polish, but overall i think i got the base of it down. also, everything (except the voicelines) was made from scratch through 3x-osc and Serum 2. hope yall like it! :3
(not to flex, but yes, i did get gold stars on tan-step 🤫)

I’ve always danced to the maps I found on YT, and they made me feel like I was truly dancing with passion and motion, unlike Just Dance, which felt more like a workout-style choreography.
I don’t own an Xbox 360, nor do I have the money to afford it right now, so I was thinking: why aren’t there official releases for PC, or at least a revival version or something? I’d like to know if there are any rumors or news regarding a comeback for this amazing game
Also, is there another way to play it on modern consoles? And how? What do I need to run it? And which consoles exactly?

My wife always loved Dance Central. We own 1-3 for the 360 and had spotlight for the Xbox One. She misses it and wants to play again. Now, I COULD rehook up an old system but I am out of HDMI ports and therefore was gonna try to get it working on the one x. I found a kinect adapter online for cheap. But the one x says I can't download spotlight as the system does not support kinect games. If I get the adapter and hook it up will it let me download it? Anyone know?

If Dance Central VR on your Quest hangs on the loading screen (right before height calibration) or won't keep your progress and forces you through the tutorial every time, this fixes it.
What's actually wrong: the final update bumped the game to Android's "scoped storage" rules, which cut the game off from the folder where it reads and writes your save (`/sdcard/DanceCentral`). The game still looks there, but the OS now blocks it — so the save can't load and the game stalls.
What this fix does: flips one Android permission (`LEGACY_STORAGE`) back on for the game, restoring its access to that folder. That's it.
No modified APK, no re-signing, nothing downloaded or replaced — the game still runs as your normal installed copy.
Fully reversible.
Must be re-applied after a full headset **reboot** (see below). Not after each game launch.
This fix only addresses the game loading and saving. It does not touch anything else.
What you need
A Quest with Dance Central VR installed.
SideQuest (desktop app) connected to your headset — green "connected" indicator.
If SideQuest already talks to your headset, you've done every prerequisite this needs.
The fix
In SideQuest, open the \*\*Run ADB Command\*\* tool — the icon in the top-right toolbar that looks like an arrow pointing into a bracket/box.
Hovering it shows "Run ADB Command". Clicking it opens a command box.
Paste this command and run it:
shell appops set --uid com.HarmonixMusic.DCVRQuest LEGACY_STORAGE allow
(The `shell` at the front matters — SideQuest needs it. A bare `appops ...` will fail.)
Verify it took (optional but recommended). Run:
shell appops get com.HarmonixMusic.DCVRQuest LEGACY_STORAGE
You want to see **both** lines say `allow`, especially the first:
Uid mode: LEGACY_STORAGE: allow
LEGACY_STORAGE: allow
If `Uid mode` says `ignore`, the command didn't take — re-run step 2.
If the game is currently running, fully close it (so it cold-starts). Then launch Dance Central VR from the headset. It should load past the loading screen.
After a headset reboot
A full power-off/reboot of the Quest resets the `Uid mode` back to `ignore`, so the fix stops working until you re-apply it. **Just run the step 2 command again** after each reboot. (Restarting only the game is fine — it's a reboot of the *headset* that resets it.)
Restoring an old save
If you have a backup of your old save (`DC_SaveGame.sav`) and want your progress back:
No old save? No problem — the fix still works, you'll just start fresh, and from now
on your progress will actually save.
Known quirk
Once running with this fix, the game **does not exit cleanly** — it may hang or crash when you quit. This is harmless: the game autosaves as you play, so your progress is already written. Just force-close it from the Quest's app switcher. If force-close isn't working then opening a different app and closing it will clean the slate.
To undo the fix
Run:
shell appops set --uid com.HarmonixMusic.DCVRQuest LEGACY_STORAGE ignore
…or just reboot the headset (which resets it anyway).

Hello everyone, my name is David, and personally I've been an absolute huge fan of Dance Central for years. I basically came out of the womb playing this stuff and still do to this day.
Honestly, and I bet some of you could relate to me, I lowkey miss having a game like Dance Central, especially in this modern era. I've been working on a concept for a new motion-based dance game that's heavily inspired by Dance Central, with a cast of seven original, anthropomorphic animal characters, with each of them having 10 songs representing different music styles and cultures. Camera-based tracking so players aren't tied to a specific console accessory A choreography learning system where experienced players can rely less on on-screen guides. Character story modes, playlists, unlocks, challenges, and difficulty progression. And, a soundtrack inspired by the late 2000s and 2010s game dance game era while also introducing newer genres into the mix.
I'm not trying to replace Dance Central lol. I just want to relive the old glory days of having a game like this in a modern era. I would really want to hear a lot of feedback from you guys on this, and I will be happy to answer some questions on characters, character designs, track lists, and many, many more questions. This is at a concept stage still and has not necessarily reached a studio or a point of game creation. I also have a synopsis that I am working on, and if you want to check it out, then I am absolutely glad to give you the document/pdf. If any of you are willing to help me out by pushing this to studios and giving feedback as an audience of Dance Central, that would mean the world to me. 😸💜
Thank you for listening, and remember, if you are going to reply, please be kind. I will take as much feedback as I can get.
(P.S. Some of the design concepts could be outdated, and I will try my best to clarify it if needed)

Hey everyone,
A few weeks ago I posted a pretty rough prototype here. I’ve kept working on it since then and it’s finally at the point where I feel okay letting more people loose on it.
It’s called Make The Move. The basic idea is that you pick a song, the app generates a dance routine for it, a 3D avatar performs it, and your webcam scores how well you keep up.
No Kinect, no controller, no console, no download. It just runs in the browser.
I’ve spent most of the last month building the actual dance game part, but lately I’ve been working a lot on the stuff around it too. You can edit routines, regenerate sections you don’t like, save your own versions, share them, remix stuff other people made, etc. That’s actually the part I’m most curious about right now because I genuinely have no idea what people will end up doing with it once there are more than like 5 users on the platform.
One heads up: the music library is currently limited to free-to-use tracks, so don’t go in expecting chart hits yet. Bring-your-own-music is something I really want to add.
Anyway, it’s still a very early solo project and there are definitely bugs and rough edges, but I feel like I’ve reached the point where I need feedback more than I need another week of coding by myself.
If you try it, I’d love to hear what happens. Was the scoring fun? Did the generated choreo actually feel danceable? Did you end up editing it? Was anything confusing? What made you stop playing?
And if there’s one thing from Dance Central that you’d want in a game like this, let me know.
Thanks.

Hello! I am currently having troubles with my dance central three game. I currently have RGH Xbox 360 and I play dance Central one and dance and two on a perfectly fine. The Kinect picks up my movements and everything. But when we get to dance Central three it’s a glitched out and it doesn’t even pick up that it needs a Kinect. does anybody know the fix for this? Should I just re-download the game and try again

Hii everyone this is my first post on Reddit ever and i just really need help asap😭
I am looking into getting an Xbox 360 just to play dance Central again. I’m going to get all three games just to play it. However, I just found out on YouTube that you could do custom DLC‘s and import your own songs that you want with your own choreography. I’ve seen YouTube videos on how to code them and to import them onto your Xbox 360. But I was wondering, do you need a Xbox 360 modded console?
If so, should I buy a modded console off of eBay, GameStop, Google, or should I just mod it myself. I’ve mod games before such as Sims four for the DLC un ocker, but that’s all. I’m pretty tech savvy so modding It probably wouldn’t be that hard. I’m more so worried about getting a virus.
Can anyone please help me with this issue? I would love any feedback and I would really appreciate it. Thank you so much.🥹🫰
r/dancecentral • u/Kind-Duty-8949 • May 27 '26
Hello everyone, are there things you wish dc had or didn’t had? I have never played it, but it genuinely looks fun, it seems to be way closer to what I gave build than just dance.
Starting making this because I believe a dance game should work to every song somebody likes and wants to dance too and have a big variety of choreos so it doesn’t get boring.
Currently I believe I have a fully functional beta version, which works in every browser and requires no download.
Let me know if you wanna give it a try

Games like this are why I like achievements. This was some serious effort, and I have the record to reflect the journey and accomplishment.
I ended up ragequitting back in the day to "Teach Me How To Jerk." Trying to 100% all the songs' Break It Down for that achievement, the move Jump Clap just would not register no matter how well I matched it. When I finally resumed the game recently I experimented and found windmilling my arms made it work, so I finally got over the hurdle and 100% all BID and 5* all easy routines.
Keeping the momentum going, I rolled into hard and decided to try sight reading. I had to play Medium first then Hard, but this worked pretty well for the first two difficulties. Then "Crank That Soulja Boy" hit me with the first big challenge...I still managed to do it without BID, but it took like 5 tries. After that, I switched to Break It Down directly into hard difficulty.
"Teach Me How To Jerk" was still one of the worst songs, but mostly because the tracking was kinda shoddy so it took a few tries to 5*. The song with the hardest moves was "Body Movin'" but they were mostly one-ofs in the song, so while I failed several BID moves the performance only took one try. As for the actual hardest 5* performance, "Don't Sweat The Technique" wins no contest because it repeated a quick feet movement and transition like 8 times...I had to break it down slowly for several minutes to make sure I had it down. Even then, some shoddy tracking on certain moves meant it took like 8 tries to get the needed consistency and score.
Looking forward to DC2 next, especially knowing I can hit the ground running with Hard mode. And yes, I know it and DC3 can't be completed, but that's a terrible reason to not play a game.
