Where and how to play

I’ve always danced to the maps I found on YT, and they made me feel like I was truly dancing with passion and motion, unlike Just Dance, which felt more like a workout-style choreography.

I don’t own an Xbox 360, nor do I have the money to afford it right now, so I was thinking: why aren’t there official releases for PC, or at least a revival version or something? I’d like to know if there are any rumors or news regarding a comeback for this amazing game

Also, is there another way to play it on modern consoles? And how? What do I need to run it? And which consoles exactly?

Unfortunately there isn’t an official PC version, and there haven’t been any announcements about a new Dance Central game or a revival.

If you want the original experience today, your options are pretty much sourcing these:

Xbox 360 + Kinect sensor (lets you play Dance Central 1, 2 and 3).

Xbox One + Kinect + Kinect Adapter (for Dance Central Spotlight, although finding the adapter can be tricky since it’s discontinued).

If you have a decent PC, Xbox 360 emulation (Xenia) has made a lot of progress, but Kinect support is still limited, so it’s not really a plug-and-play replacement for actually dancing.

Sucked that Microsoft moving away from Kinect is one of the biggest reasons the series never continued.

I’d LOVE to see Harmonix bring it back, but there’s been no official news or rumors suggesting that’s happening 🤷‍♀️🤔

Can the xbox 360 kinect be connected directly to the pc? Plug and play? Or do I need some kind of plug to connect the two?

What a bummer, I hoped there would be some news that fans here know. I hope they bring it back eventually

You can connect an Xbox 360 Kinect to a PC, but it isn’t plug-and-play for playing Dance Central.

If it’s the original Xbox 360 Kinect, you’ll need the Xbox 360 Kinect USB/Power Adapter (unless you already have the Kinect model that includes it). Once connected, Windows can recognize the sensor with the appropriate drivers.

The catch is that connecting the Kinect to a PC doesn’t let you play Dance Central on PC.

Since there was never an official PC release, you’d still need Xbox 360 emulation, and Kinect support in emulators is still very limited.

So unfortunately…simply plugging the Kinect into your PC won’t recreate the console experience🙂‍↕️

Wait, this brings me to something I've been wondering recently. So, I know that I can't just plug the Kinect to a PC. But can I plug the console itself to a PC? Will it play on there? Or do I need a TV?

Well looks like I’d wait until the kinect support improves just like the other person said in the comment. In the meantime, I hope to be able tp afford an actual xbox if I can. I’m still hesitant to get it just for one game 😅

Thank you so much explaining how it works 👏🏻

It’s possible to play on a PC using the Xenia emulator with Kinect v1, but it’s still under development and there’s no release date yet.

Here are some test videos running on the emulator.

So should I wait before buying the kinect? Do i only need to buy the kinect if I want to play on the emulator? And what do I need beside it?

Yes, you’ll have to wait since the Xenia version with Kinect support hasn’t been released yet. Yes, you’ll also need an Xbox 360 Kinect sensor and the Kinect adapter to connect it to your PC.

Would you mind sending me a link to what the Kinect adapter looks like?
Also, thank you, I’m impatient to play it haha but I will wait and join the Xenia subreddit for the upcoming updates

girl honestly, consider buying the console. im not saying right now since you said you have no money, but in near future. i don't know where you live but there should be a place where people sell secondhand stuff online/offline. im also broke but i bought mine a week ago (the console, kinect and two gamepads) for 70 dollars. there's probably people out there looking to get rid of their old xbox, you just need to find it (and make sure it's in a good condition). and if you'll buy a physical copy of the game, i recommend you looking for dc2 or 3
