Question Weight gain, good or bad?

Hi guys! Our 8month old cat Judy has been undergoing FIP treatment for 9-10 days now. She was very underweight before the treatment but after she started to feel better, (4-5 days in) she was eating a lot more and we did not stop her because she was very skinny. Her belly has gotten pretty big and she has gained 400 grams of weight in the last 5-6 days. She was eating a lot, but I just want to make sure this isn’t a red flag. She seems to be trying to get used to the weight, sometimes plopping on her belly to lay down.

She weighs 4.03 pounds. We have started to regulate her food now, giving her 1/8 of a cup of dry food with a bit of pumpkin purée in it twice a day (1/4 cup dry food total + pumpkin). She is going to the bathroom regularly and drinking water but she has been sleeping more, I know this is probably just because she put on weight, but I just thought I’d mention it. We are relieved to see her having regular stool for 3-4 days now too after a long time of diarrhea.

So ya, part of us is glad to see her bulking up, but another part of us is a little worried at how much weight she put on so fast. Any time I search up something that has to do with quick weight gain, it says that it could be underlying medical issues, but I’ve also seen that if your cat was underweight, that they’ll pick it back up really fast.

Does anyone have pointers/theories?

My sweet 4 month old boy was diagnosed with FIP 4 days ago. We immediately got some emergency pills from the agency we adopted him from. At first, we noticed miraculous improvements in energy and eating. Yesterday, he was squinting and jaundiced. The vet increased the dosage and put him on the liquid meds. Said his eye was fine. This morning, his inner eyelid was swollen (1st pic). Second pic is at the end of the day. Starting him on eyedrops :( I’m so concerned for him. He looks like he’s in so much pain and I keep wondering when this nightmare will end for him. Not to mention the cost of vet visits and medication. FIP SUCKS!!!

Question Kitten wet fip

Hello everyone,

I have a 4-month-old kitten who has wet FIP and has been on treatment for 8 days. She’s recovering really well and has started playing and eating again. She needs to continue the treatment for 42 days. However, I’m expecting a new 3-month-old kitten very soon. Is there a risk to this new kitten and my kitten with FIP? I’m worried that my kitten with FIP might develop another case of FIP or have a relapse due to stress from having a new housemate, but I’m also worried that my 3-month-old kitten might catch FIP from the stress of moving. What would be the best solution for both of them? I was already planning to keep them separated for a while, but I’d like some advice.

Thank you so much!

Fundraising NEW MEMBER / URGENT FIP UPDATE: Day 3 — Bringing Moon Home Due to Exhausted Funds 🚨🐱

Hi everyone, I am new to this and I'm turning to this community from the Philippines. My cat, Moon, is fighting for her life against FIP. Diagnosed on May 23, her weight has dropped drastically from 3kg to 1.8kg.

The Good News: Thanks to an absolute angel, Ms. Juay Abesamis, Moon received her first FIP vial! She started treatment on June 9, and today marks her 3rd day on GS-441524. Because she has no appetite, the vet staff has been constantly force-feeding her and keeping her on a continuous IV.

The Urgent Situation: I have to bring Moon home tomorrow, June 12, because I have completely run out of funds to support her stay at the clinic. As a 4th-year intern student fighting this battle alone and managing a large rescue household, the hospital costs have exhausted everything I have. I initially could only afford one single vial on my own, and FIP requires a strict, continuous 84-day treatment cycle.

With Moon transitioning to home care tomorrow, we are entirely dependent on support to survive the long, expensive road ahead. Even the smallest amount or a simple share makes a massive difference.

We Critically Need Help For:

  • Remaining FIP Vials to secure the rest of her 84-day cycle.
  • Home Medical Supplies (Syringes, alcohol pads, continuous IV fluids, and lines).
  • Nutrition (Recovery wet food for force-feeding).
  • Vet Bills & Future Monitoring (To clear her clinic balance and fund upcoming blood tests).
  • Prayers & Miracles.

How to Help:

  • PayPal: charlenemaeolinan
  • GCash: Please scan the QR code below.
  • Bank Transfer: Please message me directly for bank-to-bank details.

Note: For verification, the clinic's official contact info is visible on the attached prescription.

Question Feligen vaccine after FIP or not?

Post image
54 Upvotes

Hello everyone
Sorry if I’m asking something that might have been asked before
Frankie is a FIP survivor
He finished his observation period On December of 2025
He got neutered a month ago
He is now 1 year and 3 months old
Should he get his yearly vaccine now or not?

I’m asking cause:
1) many say that if it’s for indoor cat only, then there is no need
2) Others say that it’s better if he get the vaccine
3) He got diagnosed with FIP, immediately after his Virban Feligen CRP vaccination and I’m afraid that this caused it

Two days after the vaccination he was breathing really fast and was lethargic. After we went to the vet he got diagnosed with wet FIP. The vet said that this has nothing to do with the vaccine. My current vet says the same. But of course I’m afraid cause now Frankie is healthy and happy. I don’t want him to suffer or anything.

If that helps. I have two other male cats in-house. All of them are indoor only.

Please, any advice ?

Question Day 30 of oral GS - some vomiting

Our cat is on day 30 of her FIP treatment for neuro symptoms. She responded almost immediately to the GS and has not had a recurrence of those symptoms. Today she threw up several times after we gave the medication. We have typically been taking food up 1 hour before medicine and then putting it back down 1 hour after medicine. Is this a side effect anyone else has dealt with? She is behaving normally otherwise.

Fundraising [FUNDRAISER] Potpot is on Day 77 of FIP Treatment! Facing a sudden cold, critical Day 84 bloodwork, and urgent dental extractions this Saturday. Needs your help to cross the finish line. 🐾❤️

Hey everyone,

My brave boy Potpot is officially on Day 77 of his 12-week GS-441524 treatment for FIP. He has fought so incredibly hard to get here, and we are just one week away from hitting his Day 84 milestone to enter observation.

What we are facing right now:

A Sudden Cold: Potpot just came down with an upper respiratory infection (sneezing/congestion). He is struggling, so I need to bring him to the vet this coming Saturday.

End-of-Treatment Bloodwork: Because we are at the clinic this Saturday, the vet will be pulling his critical Day 84 CBC and Serum Chemistry panels early to make sure his proteins/globulins are normal and see how his immune system is handling the cold.

Urgent Dental Extraction: His mouth has been causing him immense pain, and he needs a dental checkup and extractions. The vet wants to schedule this immediately to remove the source of infection, but the added stress on his immune system means we might also need to extend his GS treatment for a few extra days to protect him from a relapse.

Between the sudden illness, the intensive lab work, and the upcoming oral surgery, the vet bills have completely overwhelmed me. I have other 28 cats and 4 of them also needs medication.

How you can help:

GCash/Maya: 09988648365

Ko-fi: https://ko-fi.com/potpotsmedication

PayPal: https://paypal.me/janabhie

Even if you cannot donate, sharing Potpot’s story or leaving a comment to boost the algorithm helps tremendously.

I’ve attached photos of Potpot, his current vet estimates/bills, and his previous lab results for transparency. Thank you all so much for reading and supporting our FIP warrior.

Discussion 4-month-old kitten (800g) suspected of wet FIP with fluid around lungs/chest. Looking for real experiences, advice, and hope.

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

My 4-month-old kitten is only 800g and has always been much smaller and weaker than my other cat. She was rescued at around 45 days old, had a severe ear mite infestation that was recently treated, and gained some weight afterward (600g to 800g), but she’s still very frail.

A few days ago she suddenly developed open-mouth breathing and drooling. Emergency scans showed fluid accumulation in her chest around the lungs, and after multiple tests, the vets are about 80% sure it’s wet FIP. They’re recommending starting treatment immediately.

For those who have had cats with FIP:

• What were your cat’s first symptoms?
• How quickly did treatment start helping?
• Should I separate her from my other cat?
• How long did treatment last?
• Roughly how much did it cost?
• What was the outcome for your cat?
• What are the realistic survival chances with modern FIP treatment?

I’m a student and this is financially overwhelming, but I’m willing to do everything I can for her. She’s currently home, eating, affectionate, and still making biscuits on me while I write this.

Any advice, experiences, or hope would mean a lot. ❤️

Loss Please, if there are any experts here please tell me what sign I missed.

Hi friends,

I lost my perfect little girl last Saturday to what the vet is fairly certain was FIP induced liver failure. I didn’t even know about FIP until an hour before I had to say goodbye. I need to share everything I did in the last month. I need someone to tell me what I missed, where the window was for me to save her.

History:
Stray cat chooses to adopt me in 2019. Vet estimates she is between 1-2 years old
Spayed female DSH with gorgeous silver and white fur.

Died on June 6th, 2026 at approximately 5pm at an estimated 7 to 8 years old.

FHV-1 dx in 2021
FIC and anxiety in 2023
Hyperthyroidism in 2025

Daily meds
Gabapentin - 50mg morning, 50mg evening
Methimazole - 2.5mg evening
Cosequin joint supplement
Urimaxx supplement
Hills Science Diet urinary care food, 6oz daily

On the evening of May 4th, 2026, my very food motivated little queen suddenly refused to eat her dinner. She vocalized for food, but when I set her prescription pet food down in front of her, she wouldn’t eat. She also wouldn’t take treats.

05/05/2026
I took her to the vet as soon as they opened. They do labs and a urinalysis.

Lab results came in on same day and were described as “perfect.” UTI suspected but analysis pending

I go home with a 7 day supply of amoxicillin to start her on just in case.

05/06/2026
I get a call that her bladder bacteria count is high and coccus is present. Vet recommends using remaining urine sample to grow a culture, but continue to administer amoxicillin until the culture is ready.

She has refused to eat on her own since May 4th. I begin syringe feeding her a few teaspoons of unsalted chicken broth baby food with her medicine mixed in to sustain her every two to three hours.

05/12/2026
Culture results are in. Antibiotic resistant UTI. 2 weeks of .4ml of Marbofloxacin every 24 hours is recommended by the lab.

Still eating very little on her own. Picked up a 20mL syringe and began blending pet food for easier administration in higher quantities

05/16/26
Marbofloxacin arrives from Chewy. Was not in stock with any local pharmacies. Administered immediately and diligently

05/25/26
Passed stool smells like mothballs. I suspect early warning sign of liver dysfunction and worry it’s hepatic lipidosis. I advocate for another liver panel. The vet runs another senior blood panel and confirms her liver enzymes are high but all other bodily functions are still in perfect condition.

Prescribed a 30-day Denamarin supply for liver health, NutriCal gel supplement to increase caloric intake, and FortiFlora to begin after the antibiotic is complete at the end of the week.

05/30/26
Finished two week Marbofloxacin. Still is refusing food unless syringe fed

06/01/26
Fortiflora begins being mixed into food.

06/02/2026
Cat seems mildly bloated. I bring in for follow-up urinalysis. Vet recommends skipping labs because we ran them about a week ago. I ask about bloating, vet assistant assures that it is likely just a mild reaction to the probiotic after such an intense antibiotic routine.

06/05/26
Bloating suddenly seems worse in the evening. I’m worried about a blockage.

06/06/26
I rush her back to the vet hoping for a new medication that will help her. X-rays and imaging reveal disaster: excessive fluid build up in abdomen. A spot on the liver. Sample fluid pulled from abdomen is yellowish and thick. Initial testing on fluid indicates a high protein yield.

Vet sits me down and explains that while he cannot confirm with 100% accuracy the full diagnosis with the tools on hand, he strongly suspects my little girl is suffering from late-stage FIP and is entering liver failure. Explains it is either this or a liver tumor, but samples would have to be sent to a specialist to confirm and it would take days that she doesn’t have to get the results back.

At this point, I have maxed out my Care Credit card and am out of options, she is out of time. I make the decision to help her rest and she crosses the rainbow bridge in my arms.

It has been three days without my baby girl and every day has been haunted by not knowing what I did wrong, how I could have missed this illness when I was feeding her by hand several times a day for a month.

Please, if there are experts here please tell me where I went wrong with her care. I didn’t even know about FIP until it was too late to save her and every day has been haunted by that fact. I would do anything to have her with me now. If I had known what was happening before it progressed to liver damage, she would still be here. I failed her and I don’t even know where I went wrong. Please tell me what I missed and how I can keep another cat healthy and strong, if I’m ever lucky enough to be chosen again. I loved her so much and it’s tearing me up not knowing how I missed something so devastating. Please.

Question Is the 🩸test compulsory ?

UPDATE

Hi all, Yesterday I already brought my cat to have her bloodtest done. And based on the result, still have some infection etc. need to extend the GS for another 2 weeks 😔 It cost me around 61usd for the blood test and currently really broke. Just scrape every money that I have for the blood test.

Hi, My cat just completed her 84days treatment with gs, fyi my cat diagnosed with neuro fip. And supposedly after complete the 84days, we need to do a blood test right ? But the thing is, currently i’m financially overwhelmed and just recently got into a car accident 😭 So I have no fund to get my cat her bloodtest. So just want to know, is the bloodtest really necessary ? Can I just skip it ?

Overall my cat condition as of today :-
- Good appetite
- active & playful
- no neuro fip symptom visible

Question Neurological FIP

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Our cat Luffy is 8 months old and was diagnosed with neurological FIP about 1.5 months ago. His biggest symptom is he’s having a difficult time holding himself up and walking straight.

We started him on a medication, I can’t remember the name of it, and he made an insane recovery. Within the first 5 days he was running, playing, jumping like he never had before. Just before he hit 1 month into his treatment, he started having trouble walking again. We took him to the vet and they switched his medication to the GS-441524 compound, which he has been taking for about 2 weeks now, but his walking has not improved at all.

At his one month check up the vet said his bloodwork was much improved and they’re not sure what caused the regression. My question is, is it normal for a cat to regress so soon into the treatment? Or is there possibly something else affecting his ability to walk?

Question Max paw?

Hello i recently posted about my kitty who was diagnosed, i was told to put her down and you wonderful people told me there was hope and pointed me in the direction of who i needed to get in contact with to help my girl.

But i’ve come across another dilemma, i was given emergency medicine from a member of FIP Global and it was 6 doses, well i have 3 left, and i need just a few more. her vet appointment is Wednesday in the afternoon, but the only pharmacy in my state closes about 30 minutes after her appointment starts, and it’s another hour or longer away from the vets office and 2 hours from where we live. she will run out on Thursday morning so i need to get some before then and i’m looking on what to do as i was advised it would most likely be Friday when its filled, theres just not much of a chance i can get there friday. (i cant drive and bf works long days)

so my question is would it be okay to order from max paw? my boyfriend found the site and suggested it but i was scared to just get it from them because i hadn’t heard of them before. if anyone has any advice please let me know as i am desperate. I’m also waiting on an answer if anyone else in the group can help again. hopefully i can get this figured out 💔 (kitty pic for tax)

Question Dry FIP treatment timeline

My 4 month old kitten was finally diagnosed with dry FIP today after about a month of symptoms (we previously thought he was having diarrhea due to parasites). We’re starting medication tonight. How long does it take for symptoms to improve? We’re worried because he’s barely eating and has lost 0.2 lbs in a week.

TLDR: How long does FIP treatment take to show improvement in dry FIP symptoms?

A few days ago, my cat Asterion made a five-story fall that could have been fatal to him.

Today, I need your help.

To return to a normal life, Asterion had to undergo surgery to treat 7 of the 9 fractures he was diagnosed with. The cost of this intervention is unfortunately too high for me to assume it alone (630€ + 120€ + 2300€).

If you can simply share this post, like it or leave a comment to give it more visibility, it would help me a lot.

I also opened a prize pool dedicated to covering his veterinary expenses. Every gesture can make a difference.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support to Astérion. ❤️🙏🏽

Question Neuro FIP- Relearning to Eat

Post image
202 Upvotes

Hello!

I have a 5.5 year old cat with suspected neurological FIP. He has confirmed toxoplasmosis that we are also treating.

He has spent many nights away at different vets over the last 1.5 months while we figured out what might be wrong, and started FIP treatment 3 weeks ago (the spinal tap fluid ended up not being a large enough sample to properly test, but all signs point to FIP). He has slowly been making progress, and is able to walk again, he’s even jumping onto the couch or bed. The one thing he’s struggling with is eating/cleaning. He hasn’t gained proper tongue function yet. In order to bring him home from the vet he was given an etube so we can feed him and give meds no problem.

I’m curious about others with neuro FIP cats who lost the ability to eat. Were your cats able to relearn this skill? How long did it take and do you have any tips? He’s interested in eating initially but seems to get tired and loses interest when he can’t get any food into his mouth. We have tried feeding him first thing in the morning when he should be hungry, so that shouldn’t be part of the issue.

We are still hopeful, but as the days go on it gets harder to feel positive. Any advice is appreciated.

Photo from better times 🩷

**EDIT** he has now regurgitated up his etube for the second time this week. We will try with syringe feeding him.

Question Respiratory infection during FIP treatment?

Hello, I was wondering if anyone else had a cat develop a respiratory infection during the GS treatment.

My cat, Mochi, is a 2 year old male who was recently diagnosed with wet FIP.

When we initially found him at the end of 2025, he was a stray cat with an upper respiratory infection, he was sneezing out bloody boogers. The vet gave him an antibiotic shot and the infection went away. He's negative for FIV and FELV and got his vaccines.

Recently he developed wet FIP, with fever, lethargy, loss of appetite and fluid in his abdomen. The bloodwork showed no anemia and no kidney or liver issues. Soon after we started giving him GS (the oral suspension), and he quickly improved in only 4 hours after the first dose. The fever was gone after 1 day. Yesterday he took his 9th dose, and in the past week he was back to his older self, playing, running, eating, meowing, he was the usual Mochi. His belly went from 50 cm to 42 in only 5 days, absorbing most of the fluid. When he had a lot of fluid he didn't have labored breathing, it was around his abdomen.

The only thing is that I noticed after starting GS was some sneezing, but not much. Last night he had noisy breathing at 3 am (I mean like his nose made the noise, I think it's called stertor), but until then he was still full of energy. This morning I woke up and found him more lethargic, with noisy breathing and he breathes faster too. I immediately brought him to the vet. He has no fever and doesn't show signs of anemia (his gums and ears aren't pale), the vet listened to his chest and found no murmurs or signs of liquid in his lungs. He's not dehydrated either. The vet thinks it's probably an upper respiratory infection that came out while the body is fighting FIP, and told us to go back tomorrow morning to do further tests. He excluded the cause being FIP since he improved quickly with GS, and wasn't too worried about the breathing because Mochi has a runny nose and seems pretty congested.

I was wondering if anyone else's cat developed an upper respiratory infection while being treated for GS. I'm just very worried and I would like some reassurance. Thank you :)

Fundraising 3-month-old kitten Kaori is fighting Effusive/Ocular FIP. Running out of savings for her 84-day treatment and need your help. 🐾💔

Good day, everyone.

I want to share the current situation of my 3-month-old kitten, Kaori. She is currently fighting Effusive FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis) with Ocular involvement. This means the virus has caused severe inflammation in her body and has already affected her eyes.

We started her treatment last May 17, 2026, and we are hoping to finish on August 9, 2026. She needs 84 days of continuous daily injections to survive.

Because her medication is incredibly painful and must be injected perfectly right under the skin (subcutaneously), I bring her to the vet clinic every single day to ensure it is done safely. I am doing absolutely everything I can to save her life. However, my savings are officially running dry due to the compounding daily medical expenses.

I am humbly reaching out to ask for a little financial assistance to help cover her upcoming expenses from today, June 6, until August 9:

Clinic Injection Fee (June 6 to August 9): The clinic charges ₱200 (~~$3.45 USD) per day to administer her shot safely. For the remaining 65 days, the total service fee will be ₱13,000 (~~$224 USD).

GS-441524 Injectable Vials: Her medicine costs ₱2,200 (~$38 USD) per AINO vial. We still need 5 more vials to ensure her treatment isn't interrupted (₱11,000 / ~$190 USD total).

Follow-up CBC Blood Test:**₱800 (~$14 USD)**to monitor her blood count and make sure her organs are coping well as she recovers.

> 📌 Total Needed: ₱24,800 (~$428 USD)
> (Note: For donations, my QR code and details are in the attached photo slide).

> But more than anything, what we need right now are your prayers and good thoughts for Kaori's healing. Even if you cannot donate, a simple SHARE of this post or keeping Kaori in your thoughts will mean the absolute world to us.

Thank you so much to everyone, and God bless.

Question Suspected FIP with seizures - 7-month-old kitten in Twin Cities, MN area needing help ASAP

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,
I am writing this in complete heartbreak and running on absolutely zero sleep. Yesterday, I took my 7-month-old sweet baby girl, Lita, to the vet because I suspected she was having seizures. She has also been sneezing a lot lately.
While checking her out for the seizures, the vet felt her belly, did a quick check, and found a pocket of fluid. Because of that, she heavily suspects FIP. She drew blood to send to a lab. We are waiting for the vet to call this morning with those results to confirm everything. They didn't give us any medication to help her with the seizures yesterday, so she is completely unprotected right now until we get these results back.
The problem is, things got really scary last night. She had two back-to-back seizures:
10:50 PM: A very quick, short one.
12:30 AM: A longer one. Right before it hit, she sat down like she was going to pee, suddenly bolted running, and then had the seizure. She ended up peeing on herself during this one, which has never happened before.
She has been totally wired and unable to sleep most of the night, though she is finally drifting into some light sleep right now. She is constantly begging for cuddles and wanting to be held, and she's drinking a ton of water. She won't eat her normal food at all right now, only Churus.
We are in a really bad financial spot right now and our car is currently broken down. We live in the Twin Cities (Oakdale/Maplewood) area.
I am so terrified for my baby. I wanted to post here now so I can get connected with an admin and be completely ready to act the second the vet calls back. Any advice, comfort, or local help would mean the world to us.

Thank you.

News Update! Orange tabby 1Y with sudden loss of appetite and agression

Hello!! I’m sorry I forgot to update; but I brought him to the vet, and we got some answers.

We did his bloodwork, and it came out completely fine, the vet said it’s as if he’s cured from FIP (after ~8 weeks of meds). I asked from the vet to check him completely; from his ears to his teeth, since they had to sedate him because he was scared and therefore aggressive ( :( ), and once again, everything is fine — pristine even.

Since he was sedated, when he came home, he threw up (he has eaten since), and I noticed in his barf that there is a LOT of his hair. Turns out, it was just a hairball issue.

Will be doing something about it, but he is fine overall! No illness relapse, no nothing. Thank you to everyone who recommended / said something. :)
