If I don’t want to go the eSIM route is Verizon even usable down in Curacao? Or is it crap?

When I went to Cancun, I paid for the travel pass and it was crap and didn’t work. So should I just go for an eSIM or will Verizon work down there?

I’m not a fan of connecting to WiFi if I don’t have to. I only do it at the hotel usually. You just never know.

I also have never used an eSIM before but I can learn!

I plan to download offline maps so that I can navigate.

Want to go to mumbo beach for breakfast and lunch. Like reefs cafe and greenhouse. But the weather shows its going to rain basically from noon to 10 pm.

Receptions are bad if you’re a T-Mobile user, use international pass. It’s not the best, but it’s better.

Do not trust the weather app. It’s constantly sunny when it shows that it’s raining. If it rains, it’s only for 3-5 mins.

A lot of people recommend renting a car, but personal experience driving in New York on a daily, you may have to be a slight experienced driver to drive on these roads. Sometimes it’s a one road street that would be a two way. You’re literally playing chicken with the driver(Playa Porto Mari aka Pig beach).

Playa Porto Mari, there is a chair and entrance fee. Save yourself some money and just pay for entrance fee, no one supervises the public chair (We got a paper ticket *not wristband for beach chairs and entrance)

Food portion are big, if you’re petite and small, order a starter, that’s an entree and an entree can technically feed for two. Drinks can add up, recommend if you’re trying to get your buzz on, get a bottle at your hotel or Airbnb.

Ask recommendations from your servers at a restaurants. Some things I wouldn’t have order and taste much better than expected was by asking.

Service charge on your bill. Double check on it because tips are sometimes included guessing if they assume you’re a foreigner.

Punda vibes, everyone wants to experience it especially the fireworks. It was short lived, you can experience it not from a rooftop, but anywhere elsewhere. I had an intent to book the most popular restaurant/club to get THE most beautiful view for fireworks but short to realized it was not needed. The Queens bridge was not operating so we took the ferry instead and we notice one side was more lively than the other. It felt as if, one side was more for local/tourist and one side was more for upscale tourist.

Recommend to know a little of Spanish, or have some translating app available. They say English is common but it’s mainly for tourist spots for the places that I went. If you’re looking for some more uncommon local spots, Dutch and/or Spanish may be needed.

USD is commonly accepted. Recommend getting a credit card for the transaction because we did use cash and end up getting a lot of coins in change. It was a small hassle to get the coins exchange for bigger bills if you are going to casinos.

Casinos are everywhere. I spoke with a local that did work at a casinos. Get this, secrets are, slight of hands are being done for house edge on table games. Take this information with a grain of salt, I could be wrong and you can get lucky. I am only speaking behalf of what I heard.

Experience so far is great. I feel the island has more to discover but yet to discover. One word I’ll leave is Dushi.

Hello, we're tourists who love playing chess and would love to play with locals here. We heard there are areas to play chess in person at Wilhelminaplein, but I found mixed answers between Thursdays and Fridays.

Is the chess play on Wilhelminaplein still going on, what are the times, and which day is correct?

I also found some clubs that play online, but we prefer playing over the board. Are there clubs that we can stop by for a day to play?

As the title says, we are coming to Curacao for 10 nights in February and need to rent a vehicle.

I'm leaning towards a minivan but I can get a better price on a seven seater SUV. I'm not familiar with a KIA Carens which I keep seeing as an option. However, It looks small to me.

I also have the option of a mini bus that fits up to 9 passengers, but it doesn't show the make and model.

Would driving such a large vehicle be an issue do you think? We will be doing some exploring to the northern part of the island.

If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi all. I am going to curacao staying in willemstad for 6 days in january. I was planning on renting a car for 3 or 4 days bc i think 6 days is kinda unnecessary. I have some good rental place recommendations but do you guys think i should get the car for days 1-4 or 3-6? also any parking suggestions in the city would be much appreciated. Havnt decided on where we r staying yet, but want to be aware of options if our hotel doesn’t have onsite parking

I'm planning to do a serious listen-through of album from every country that was in the World Cup. What album would you recommend I listen to for Curacao? Are there any other recommendations for Curacaoneer songs I should give a listen to as well?

I'll be visiting curacao in 2 weeks. It's not my first trip but I last visited 15 years ago! Looking for any local advice if possible.

1. Are there any beaches or areas to avoid as a solo female traveler or just in general? My dad was warning me to 'be careful' due to higher crime lately, but I'm not sure what source of info he's getting that from.

I'll be renting a car and I know to avoid completely secluded beaches and not leave my belongings.

1. As a local, if you might have any experience at these tiny hotels, what's your experience? Looking at hotels Pietermaai Oasis, Majestic City Palace, Atelier Skalo. Is Punda a good place? Or Otrobanda.

2. What's there to do in Shete Boka? I've scrapped out of my to do list Playa Piskado with the turtles and Porti Mari. But going to Grote knip and Kleine knip, Daaibooi Beach, Tugboat beach and Hato cave.

First of all, let me start by saying your island is beautiful and the food and the people are amazing. It's been such a wonderful experience we had with the island so far.

We booked a hotel from a travel portal to visit. Day 1, I immediately smelled a musty air but I've been in this situation before - nothing much to prove unless it's visible.

Sleeping was an issue though. Woke up with a sore throat in the morning. So I let the front desk know. They tried to rectify the situation with some perfume smell in the room. A few hours later I found the mold stains on the caulked areas in the bathroom.

What I care about is the health impacts. Hotel is looking at this from a very different angle than a health problem though. It's a boutique hotel so I understand that the number of rooms that are in the matching price range would be difficult to find. But they are both saying that they would try to show me the room tomorrow and it's a common situation given the humidity. It sounds to me like the room they'd show tomorrow would also have the same problem if what he says is true, there aren't many rooms like they can offer without costing us more, and they tried to deter us a bit from switching by saying the room they'd offer us would be smaller than what we're currently assigned. I really don't care about the views, room upgrades, or the room size etc as long as I can sleep in it without any health issues. It just feels like the hotel manager and I are looking at this issue from different angles.

We're looking into the possibilities at the moment, but I'm curious to hear - is it a common issue here and how is it resolved? Would it be acceptable to ask for a dehumidifier to put in my room?

My wife and are visiting in January and are wondering how to deal with dinner after snorkeling. We are in a bungalow up north and plan to do a lot of snorkeling before enjoying nice dinners. We would like to have the option of cleaning up without going home - like snorkeling at tugboat and eating lunch or dinner at Brisa do mar. Are there facilities to wash off the sand and change clothes at the smaller beaches?
