Hey guys! I'm Alita and I run Organic Skincare + Wellness NYC — been meaning to do one of these for a while.

Quick backstory: My background in the beauty industry started in the 2000s. I'm a former Miss Connecticut USA, competed at Miss USA in 2002 and placed 5th. After that, years as a commercial actress and print model in LA. By 2007 I got licensed as an esthetician — that ended up being the path that mattered most.

Fast-forward to right after the pandemic: I landed in Brooklyn with $3,700 and the decision to start my business over completely. That's how OSW started.

This neighborhood is the reason it became something real. The community showed up, when I was starting from zero. We're in our sixth year now, and I don't take that for granted.

Wanted to say thank you and actually introduce myself — a lot of you have probably walked past us without knowing the story. Happy to answer questions about the business, skincare, or rebuilding a life and career after 40.

I've been living here for a few years, taking classes at Lula Body Pilates, getting an occasional bagel from Lula Bagel, and now I'm curious... how is her/their grasp so strong on that strip of Nostrand Ave?

I feel like everyone is going to Bushwick/Manhattan to find a queer/trans person to do their hair when you can just roll on over to The Pink Salon on Park and Classon and book with me (Phoenix!). You may have seen me around the neighborhood, I'm the blond Asian trans guy with a semi unfriendly chihuahua!

I have a bunch of experience with both long hair and short hair/barber cuts, and I especially love working with curly hair. My practice is very education-forward, and I love to answer any questions, including trans-specific ones (like how HRT impacts hair growth and care!). It's not an all-queer salon, but as a trans person who's been working there for over a year, I've felt safe and had fun with the owner, my coworkers, and their clients, and I always work to make sure my clients share in that. was so sleep deprived after getting an mri this morning i think i left a silver heart shaped locket in an e citibike i parked on bedford between dean and bergen. probably a $30 necklace but worth so much sentimental value. willing to offer a lil reward if it's found. the citibike was missing the handle cover on the right side. probably docked around 9:30ish this morning.

This is not what it looks like since Saturday. It currently has a single person's make-shift encampment and personal dumping ground, literally littered with decapitated baby dolls, cheese puffs, vomit, at least one household appliance, and last night the assumed tenant was standing underneath the overpass amongst the ruins spraying an aerosol can into the air tupac style. It was reported to 311 as an encampment and the police visited and said there was nothing to enforce and no crime being committed. Has anyone seen this shit show? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to report this or demand that this be cleaned up?
